So today i rooted my desire, and tried installing the Sense 2.2 HD.
The installation failed and now i cant boot up, get stuck at the white screen with HTC logo. Connected SD card through USB in recovery mode, and formated it multiple times successful into all kinds of formats (fat16, 32, ext2, 3) in both windows and ubuntu.
Now when i try to run the update.zip or any rom file from recovery i get the following error
E:Cant mount /sdcard
(No such file or directory)
or some other problem
Any help would be nice
Moved to Q&A.
Take a look HERE. Hopefully this should sort you out.
I've did a wipe data/factory reset, is it still rooted after that?
Cant get this crap to work. It boots straight into Fastboot usb now. But it wont find the sd card. Its the stock sd with 4 gig. My pc finds it and it works
How do i get my phone to recognize the sd card?
Yes you should still be rooted, a wipe/factory reset won't unroot your handset.
All you need to do is the fastboot command to get your SD card recognised again. If this doesn't help, I'd try a new or different card.
Wow took awhile. Downloaded an RUU and went into fastboot and updated.
All sorted then?

Just ran into the weirdest of problems. I had a rooted desire with Latest Clockworkmod Recovery and Villainrom. I saw some roms that required i had AmonRa so i flashed that using unrevoked. I did'nt like amonra's recovery so i used rom manager to flash clockworkmod back. It wouldn't stick permenantly, i.e. on a hard boot it'd revert back to amon ra.
Today i did the same, then asked rom manager to backup the current rom. It rebooted, amonra applied the clockwordmod update... then clockworkmod recovery started.. then started backing up the rom, upon completion it just rebooted without asking and kept on rebooting on the HTC logo, did'nt go ahead from that. I took the battery out and then re inserted it.
What happened next is weird. I user wiped the phone (using amonra) it gave me an error
Formattting SDCARD:.android_secure...
E:Cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(no such file or directory)
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
Formatting CACHE:...
Skipping format of sd-ext
After this when the rom booted, the phone refused to recognise the sd card, and the charging light wouldn't turn on when i connected a usb cable OR the charger. I tried replacing another sd card that was working on my htc hero and it wasn't recognized either. I tried my orignal HTC Desire SD card (16 gb) in the hero and it showed a 14 gb unformatted partition on linux. when i tried mounting it , it mounted correctly. I immediately copied my data off the sdcard.
Please note that i had a 512 + 32 mb ext4/swap partition besides the rest of the fat32 partition which wasn't recognized in linux. After repartitioning the sd card i tried the sd card in the desire again but it's not working. Right now i can't mount or access any sd card in the desire, nor can i use adb to connect to the desire. I tried unrevoked to patch the clockworkmod recovery again but it doesn't recognise the phone at all. I'm thinking the rom is screwed up and i'm trying to patch another rom again on the phone but i can't since i can't access the sd card.
I'd also like to mention that using the amonra i tried repartitioning the sd card after this whole mess and it did'nt give me any error, so i'm thinking it did get to access the sd card.
Please any help would be appreaciated.
ok i just figured out that it's s-on on my phone now. So now i have a htc desire with amonRA recovery and S-on with Villainrom 1.0 installed on it. It's not showing usb debugging mode when i connect the data cable, nor is it accepting any sd card.
If possible can anyone tell me how i can :
1. Turn S-on without using usb debugging etc ?
2. Use unrevoked some other way
3. Unroot the phone to root it totally over again.
i had this problem the other day.
Check out this thread. worked for me. Read it through first so you know what your going to be doing.

THANKS ! I've finally got the sd card to be read but i'm wondering that post is for the legend, will that work on my desire ? i mean those image files etc ?
Thanks for the tip man, i googled the words (which i couldn't find to express my problem) i.e. bricked usb and found my solution for the desire here http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/
EDIT2: I already solved my problem, but i'll leave all the writing incase anyone goes through the same problems and knows what to do.
So i restarted my phone into recovery mode, wiped data, wiped cache partition, and went to install .zip so when i go to choose .zip from sdcard, it wont mount! i turned off the phone, took off the sdcard to put into a usb card reader and it seems to work just fine. So ive tried to mount and unmount my sdcard in the recovery but it wont read still. So now im stuck and cant flash the rom.
Im using clockworkmod recovery 3.0.2.4
and i was on insertcoin rom v1.3
is there a way i can flash a rom via adb, fastboot, or anything? and please if you guys have an answer please help walkthrough the steps. thank you.
EDIT1: Well apparently my phone can start back up into the same rom (sorry used to g1), which will let me read my sdcard and mount, but in recovery it wont read the sdcard. I even took out my sdcard formated it on my mac to fat32, reinsterted with 1.4 rom on it and still no read from recovery.
EDIT2: SOLVED, I remember previously that i formated my sdcard for booting up someones computer USB style. I just forgot to repartition my phone android style. So i used the clockworkmod to partition it. Even though it does use recovery mode to do it, for some reason it failed to connect at first but still did the job on the follow up.
Basic info:
S-OFF
HBOOT-2.02.0000
RADIO-2.15.00.09.01
I've unlocked my Evo 4G using Unrevoked3, then ran UnrevokedForever. (was that dumb?)
After that, I tried to update to Cyanogen 7.0 using ROM Manager two days ago, and learned AFTERWARD it wasn't a very good idea, that it's not wiping cache and the dalvik cache etc. fully and this has burned many people. I got stuck in a boot loop (waited 30 minutes) and nothing. So I booted to the Clockwork recovery, and get the following errors:
Android system recovery <2e>
Use Volume key to highlight;
click power key to select.
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
------------------------------------
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(I/O error)
...repeats 10 times then:
e:Can't find /sdcard/update.zip
Click to collapse
Doing research this usually means the Micro SD card or the slot itself is boned.
So I've removed the Micro SD, and carefully cleaned and reseated everything. Now I get:
Android system recovery <2e>
Use Volume key to highlight;
click power key to select.
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
------------------------------------
E:Cant open /cache/recovery/command
-- Install from sdcard...

Opening update package...
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed

So it SEEMS I might have fixed the SD card, and it's now reading, but the backup is gone?
Just letting it boot, (and re-trying several times) it now sits at the white EVO 4G screen and goes no father.
I don't have an SD card reader or micro-adapter at this time. So I've been trying to push an update or flash through fastboot.exe connected over USB.
I've been reading the stickied threads, getting fastboot, and ADB (says device not found, but fastboot finds the Evo just fine...) with the Android SDK up and installed on my Win7 x64 PC for the past two days. I don't even know where to start anymore, I'm not even sure if I'm trying to fix the right things. I just need a working phone at this point, and hopefully haven't lost all my Titanium Backup info on the SD Card either.
I hate my first post being a question like this, I've been searching and reading until I'm blue, I just don't know where to begin.
It's ok, you're not dead in the water. Clockwork Recovery, in MY opinion, is just not reliable. Nor is ROM Manager. I've seen too many people have problems. If I were you, I would get the pc36img for Amon RA, which I have attached here.
Make sure it is named PC36IMG.zip (all you have to do is delete everything in the name between PC36IMG and .zip
Exactly like that, and put it on the root of your SD Card, then boot into the bootloader. (Vol down/Power til boot loader appears)
When it does it's scan, it will find the file and ask you to update. Click to yes and let it flash it, then the phone reboots back to bootloader.
Now, it'll scan the file again and ask you to update, but say no this time, then go to recovery.
If you do boot up into recovery, and you should, go to wipe and wipe EVERYTHING, except the SD Card. You have a good start by doing the SD Card already. Do a factory reset/User data, and then each sub category, except the SD card. Then, hit return and flash and flash your ROM. Now, you probably know, it will take some extra time to boot up, but you should be OK.
Thanks for replying, I KNOW I'm in one of the "asked a thousand times already" situations, I'm not just figuring out which one it is.
I've been trying to get Amon_RA recovery loaded. I could tell this was the best (too late), but am still struggling to push it to the root of the SD card so the loader will pick it up.
Now I'm thinking I can't push a pc36img.zip file to the root of the SD card with fastboot.exe correct? (I know I need to rename it to exactly the right name, saw that messing up lots of folks in my endless searching.)
I'm trying to push it with ADB, but I haven't gotten that to connect yet. I might not have the right USB drivers that ADB likes, and I can't get it to recognize the device, or open up the shell. I installed HTC Sync which is supposed to get ADB to connect, but no dice. Did the USB Debugging mode get blown away when I manually cleared cache and user settings? I'd thought that the Loader screen would have it, but I'm not so sure.
If I can't get ADB working within the next hour, I'm going to swing through Office Depot and get a micro SD card/USB reader or the little shell that makes it regular SD-sized and stuff the file on that way if I have to.
You don'[t have a way to just copy it to your SD Card? A card reader or a different phone you can put the SD Card in for a minute and connect to your computer.
You don't need ADB, but if you can connect via ADB, just copy the file to your sd card.
Yeah, I just got home from work, and picked up a cheapie USB/Micro-SD adapter on the way.
I'm loading the .zip right now.
ETA: Well, that's fixed. SOOOOOO much better than Clockwork.
ETA #2: I wiped/erased everything except for the SD Card....
Now what did I screw up? I got Cyanogen 7.0.3.1 (newest listed stable release) and copied it onto the SD root as PC36IMG.ZIP It recognized it, read it, and then I went into Ammon_RA recovery, and chose the option to flash a zip from SD card, and it spent time loading, prompted me to reboot, then it rebooted and still sits at the white HTC EVO 4G screen. I let it sit for 15 minutes.
ETA #3: Re-loaded everything once more and it's now working great!
The cyangen is a ROM, you just go to flash zip from sd card or whatever it's called,. browse to the rom and flash it. You don't have to rename that. Just go back to recovery, wipe everything again and then flash the ROM that way
OK. So I need some serious help.
I have thrashed the web and found similar issues but the fixes there do not work for me.
Today I followed the instructions on the t-mod site (t-mod.org) to install T-Mod LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3 Port R5 A2SD (Australian version of Leedroid). I had to apply the Telstra froyo RUU first to update my Hboot. The root process and s-off seemed to go fine. I installed the radio Radio_32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08 and then T-mod.
On the first boot it went past the s-off ‘Why so serious’ screen and I thought I had it made but then the keep looping through the same boot animation screen. The last line reads “Detecting phone storage…”
I went back to recovery and found the CWM could not mount my sdcard.
CWM-AlphaRev Recovery v2.5.1.8
E:Can’t mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(no such file or directory)
Error mounting SDCARD:!
Since then I have tried a number of things.
- Tried to format card from CWM. Failed
- Tried to format card in Windows 7, which worked. But did not help.
- Tried a different sdcard. No difference.
- Tried to reapply the Telstra RUU. Successfully detected the device but would not complete.
- Hit the panic button.
Other people have reported similar issues with CWM not mounting the sdcard but this is generally fixed by either formatting the card or using a different card. The card in the phone was a brand new Lexar 16GB class 6 and then I tried the original 2GB Sandisk.
Please help.

Wow. I look at that but not well enough. I thought it was for only when your pc would not detect your phone but it is so much more. thanks
It really is much easier than it looks. Just get Android Flasher from the link I provided in the other thread and run that command and that should re-enable your SD card on your phone.
This happened to my Desire once and I was stuck for hours, in the end found this to fix it, just plug your phone up via Fastboot and give this a go:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
Same thing happened to me just now. Fastboot says OKAY but still sd cant be mounted. Is there any other way? I used ADB, I'll also try Android Flasher.
EDIT : I formatted SD via CWM now it works
EDIT2 :Formerly I formatted with gparted in Linux, still wondering why it went wrong
please delete me
Hey Guys, i have the same problem. But i dont know what i should do with the Android Flasher ... Just go to /data an execute the files?? I have the Galaxy S2!
When i click on external_sd/ it says No files found. And how can you re flash the ROM, without having the sd card working. (because all the people say after re flashing it worked again:/)
Since I didn't have a sdcard, I changed vold.fstab so it would think emmc is an sdcard. When I tried to reverting the changes, I screwed up, and both my storage options said unavailable. So I tried to fix it by re flashing and what not, and that messed up my phone because I couldn't access emmc still and I didn't have an sdcard. So now I can only access hboot and fastboot. If I don't hold volume it gets stuck at the white htc incredible screen. If i try to use clockworkMod recovery 5.0.2 it says
E: Invalid command argument
E:Cna't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:can't mount /cache/recover/last_log
etc etc..
I've tried RUU but it said it can't update it.
I don't have a sd card, but I've updated it by putting an update on emmc, I can't get to it though! Is there a way I can flash a stock rom with fastboot from my computer? I DLed plenty of stock roms. I really need my phone back because I have to sell this laptop and I won't have any Internet access without it. I tried messing with fastboot flashall but I don't want to mess it up anyfurther.
Any suggestions anyone? I'm in desperate need of help.
After doing more research, I need to use sdparted to get all my partitions back in order.
In cwm I can mount /emmc and I'm thinking I can use adb push to place a zip there and run an update from cwm.
The thing is, using adb devices, the phone serial doesn't show up.
I don't think I can get to it without enabling usb debugging (I've used eclipse so the drivers are installed already).
I'm running out of options here. I think getting an sdk card is the only option I have left now. which will take 3 days to get
here
i have installed roms from EMMC. as long as CWM can see the contents it should be no different than installing from SD Card. of course your issue seems to be how to get files onto the EMMC without a booting OS.
so in that case, you should invest a dollar and just buy an SD Card.

I was afraid so, I guess it's easier if I just did that.
