Using weather and toggle widgets and have to wonder if it is causing part of my battery life degradation. I use LauncherPro and love the way my device is setup but really want to use the stock HTC clock and weather. Is that possible? How?
It's not possible to use Sense widgets outside of Rosie, the Sense launcher. There are some copycat widgets out there, but you can't use the real HTC ones.

Thanks...is there a way to modify the Sense launcher to look like LauncherPro? Cant stand the stock dock and like the ability to launch my five favorites from any screen.
No problem. You can install themes depending on the ROM you're using. But you're probably better off using LauncherPro and widgets that take the place of Sense widgets.

Using Baked Snack 1.8. Is it odd to think that the widgets I mentioned good causing battery drain, especially opposed to the stock Clock/Weather or am I dreaming?
Is there a way to edit the stock HTC dock?
not easily. If you are familiar with creating actual themes and modifying the framework apks then yes. if not then i would look for an existing theme that makes the dock look closer to how you want.
As stated above you are better off looking for replacement widgets and using LP.
the widgets would be causing battery drain but it shoudl be very easy to test ... remove them for a day or 2 and compare.

Attention!!!
This thread is for people who use HTC Sense UI, like HTC Sense UI and are NOT interested in hearing your opinion that Sense sucks comparing to LauncherPro, ADW Launcher or how Sense widgets are replaceable by Beautiful Widgets. If you're planning on posting about those - *PLEASE* don't. This thread is for discussing 3D App Drawer port to HTC Sense UI. Thank You.
I've started this topic on LauncherPro's forum, but so far no helpful responses. I was wondering maybe some devs here can help and provide the info I'm looking for.
If you guys aren't registered, here is my last post, which will summarize the issue:
LauncherPro provides the ability to invoke it's internal screens and applications directly from within HTC Sense. It installs "Activities" icon under "Shortcuts" menu in HTC Sense.
For example: click "+" on Sense homescreen -> chose "Shortcuts" -> chose "Activities" -> select "LauncherPro" -> select "Preferences". A new yellow icon will be placed on Sense homescreen and clicking on it will open LauncherPro's preferences screen directly from Sense.
I think there is no reason why 3D App Drawer could not be invoked the same way. I don't know Sense & android well enough to know, in which config file homescreen icons/shortcuts are stored, and I dont know what is the exact name of 3D App Drawer in LauncherPro (should be something like com.fede.launcher.appdrawer), but I think if someone provided that information people should be able to manually modify Sense config files to add this shortcut to Sense desktop.

that would be f***ing amazing. Id love to see a 3D app drawer on sense, like the new G2 and nexus one have.
It sounds interesting, maybe is not posible whk knows maybe developers dont really mind the ither one, anyways i think it should be posted on Q&A

I'm looking for this too!
This is exactly what I am looking for as well. While the other replacement launchers come packed with features they lack any of the wonderful Sense UI Widgets (the wonder of contractual commitment). I love Sense but would like the 3d App Launcher. I hope we can find help...
+1 for this. I love sense widgets but would love the 3d launcher

So are you just trying to change the Rosie all together or just the app drawer?
I would love to see the entire Rosie changed to scrollable.
Once I used Launcher Pro for a couple days I removed Sense from my ROM and never looked back. Scrollable Rosie, 3D App Drawer, Faster, Sexier, paid version and Market has widgets to make it look just like Sense if you want....whats not to love?

+1 theres enough widgets to make up for sense.... and u have all the other advantages, and smoothness.
I expect this is totally possible. I don't use sense much but it is very cool to learn that you can call launcher pro activities from sense. I wonder if there is some debugging method that reveals the activity names for when one app wants to talk to another.
I'd say just ask fede on twitter. He is a pretty accessible guy.

while I pretty much completely agree with the rest of your statement, I don't understand what you mean by scrollable rosie. Rosie is the name of the sense launcher.

Ive wanted this since i started rooting/roming my evo, i love stock android 3d app drawer and the phone/apps/internet homescreen layout over sense, but love sense hd n if this becomes possible before or around sense hd completely ported to evo or released officially the ability to incorporate 3d app drwawer to sense would be a great feature
Becuz its really the details that set these phones apart, just depends wut yu like...
maybe it would be possible using Metamorph? that is the only way i would see this working fluently and without much trouble for less experienced users who do not know how to push files etc
After having LauncherPro (both free and now Plus) for some time, I cannot stand Sense anymore. And if you want widgets, just get Beautiful Widgets.
I would love this functionality. I have ADW.launcher because it allows me to use a sense theme with cyanogen mod, but I love launcher pro's app drawer as you can hide apps (ie adblock icon).

Whoever plans on making such posts in this thread - please read the OP.
Sorry, newb question. What does Rosie mean and why would I want to try different versions? Droid INc, SR 3.3.2, 2.15 radio, stock kernel. I've looked at screenshots of different rosie versions, but it just looks like minor appearance and launcher changes. Isn't that sort of what I get with a new rom anyhow?
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the launcher that appears at the bottom of the screen, above the home/menu/back/search buttons - opinions vary on her extent, but nominally that's who she is.
So then what's the big deal with Rosie if launcher pro makes that so easy?

If you modify Rosie, you can tweak the default Sense launcher to look the way you want, AND stilll have access to the HTC widgets.

I guess I'm still confused, as you can still change the launcher and still have access to htc widgets without modifying rosie. Is it a theme? Is is a full Sense UI replacement? I'm just not grasping it.
From all I've gathered through this community, Rosie is like a theme on steroids - HTC uses it as a key piece of branding across nearly all their devices. In addition to being the main user interface in terms of widgets, buttons, launcher, etc it also includes an number of hooks and tweaks into core Android itself designed to make the experience more friendly for non-geek users (no insult implied!).
There are two main camps when it comes to Rosie - some dislike it since it adds bulk to the simplicity of vanilla Android, while some others love it for it's prettier user experience and all its widgets. I personally am in the former camp and have learned to love AOSP vanilla.

Actually, you can't. If you change the launcher to something like Launcher Pro (which I <3), you can't use the stock HTC Widgets for FriendStream, Mail or more popularly that beautiful 4x2 Weather+Clock. Granted, if you buy Launcher Pro Plus you can get very similar social widgets, and if want that clock Beautiful Widgets is the way to go if you ditch Rosie for LPP.
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the black bar at the bottom of your homescreen. She gives you access to your app drawer, dialer and settings - and if you take her away, she takes the HTC Widgets with her. However, all other HTC Sense UI elements, such as the lockscreen or the black status bar all stay in place.
Rosie is just the launcher. She is in charge of your homescreens.
As previously mentioned, the reason people modify her is they don't want to lose the HTC Widgets for whatever reason (too cheap for LPP + BW?), but they want to have a custom look or replace the settings option with say the browser.
That clear it up?

Absolutely. Thank you! The term Rosie didn't come up on any Android glossaries I found online. You should submit your description...
On a side note, I was a devout BB user for years and I feel like a kid again learning this whole new OS from scratch. I was as deep into BB as many of you are in Android, so just making the change was a huge leap. Some people close to me think I'm obsessed with technology, but for me it's what I find interesting and fun and challenging.
Hi,
is this possible, can i use the widgets from sense in the launcher of zeam? Becuase i like the sense widgets, but i more like the launcher and the speed of the zeam ...
thx
Notb really, any launcher dependant widgets can't be used without that launcher whether its sense, LP or whatever....
and then there was root....
Well I do have root, how can i get sense widgets into the zeam launcher, or into any other launcher?
thx

It is not possible to use sense widgets with anyother launcer, you can get sense style widgets using launcher pro plus.
I'm using LPP on my desire z and its really quick and stable,

That's very disappointing, i mean, there has to be a way to kinda 'unlock' the widgets from sense in other launchers, because the stock google ones CAN be used... or maybe intigrate the widgets from htc into the google widgets data base in the rom or something.... maybe i should check that out, maybe its just as easy as copy paste tho i dont really think so...

It's not that simple. Sense is an more interlinked build of android than a stock android build. You want to take the widgets out from the rosie launcher and put them onto a third party launcher, am I right? So you will need to decompile the launcher and remove the widgets, then integrate them into the kernel. But WAIT! You will also need to port over the necessary framework parts. Okay, you've done all that and the widgets are there. But WAIT! They don't work! So know you need to backport the HTC apps that relate to that widget. By the time you are done with that, you pretty much have an entire sense build, thereby defeating the purpose. Basically, unless you know a LOT of backsmali, you won't be able to do this.
The are alternative widgets on the market, for example Beautiful widgets, fancy widget, pure calendar widget, etc. Launcher pro plus also has nearly all of the imitation sense widgets built in too.
haha i already thought it wouldnt be that simple... looks like i really don't have the programming skills to climb this mountain, to bad . Thx tho for the explanation. I got smarter again
I'm trying out a new launcher (ZEAM) and it looks like HTC Sense still stays open in the background.. how do I get rid of it completely? I don't want 2 launchers running..
Also - anyway to use the HTC Widgets on Zeam? I love the Calendar widget and the weather/clock one

Here is calkulins flashable zip that will completely remove HTC sense from your phone. This will also remove all sense widgets I believe. Also, I have never used Zeam launcher, but I would speculate that you can't use HTC sense widgets on it (at least you cant with launcher pro or adw launcher). They only work with sense. There are quite a few other widgets out there though that look very similar to HTC's widgets.

Also here is a link to calk's page that all sorts of mods/tweaks/goodies and such. Useful bookmark. They work on pretty much any sense rom.

I've got a rooted and deodexed Inc2 running Virtuous Unitity 2.39. Ihave the HTC Sense 3.0 it comes with as well as GO Launcher...and have Home Switcher App to change from one to the other.
It seems to me that having the 5 button selection bar on the bottom (that can be swiped and added to unlimited times) is so much more efficient use of space and provides better choice that it removes any rationale to have anything like HTC Sense with it's standard three choices (and only two which are really used much).
What am I missing? Why can't others have the great lower selection choices of GO Launcher (is it correct calling this the Rosie bar?)? What does the HTC Sense give me that is more functional and useable?
The VU2.3.9 runs fine and was a clean and easy install.
If you change the launcher from Sense to something else, don't you lose the other Sense add-ons like the Weather Widget, Lock Screen and Themes?
You do lose the sense Widgets but like go and launcher pro they have built in Widgets. The lockscreen is an additional apk. Themes will stick as far as status bar goes. Also launcher pro, adw, and go launcher have downloadable themes.

The only reason I use Sense 3.0 is for the gadgets and the purdy interface, I would have switch to something else like the gingervanilla, other AOSP or RMK debloated stock rom if I were to use Go launcher.
You do lose some Sense widgets, but the lockout screen stays tied to Sense. For example, I have the weather on the lockout screen, but even when I switch to GO, the lockout screen after has the fancy weather animation.
I get a "sense" that there is not really a reason to deal with the HTC Sense launcher other than looks, but if I am wrong, let me know where.
I do know that I love having the 5 button rosie which I can spin to more 5 button rosies at the bottom. Much better use of screen real estate.
Sense is nice and its all preference
Can you know to me what's this your theme ?

I didn't like the sense-like Widgets. They didn't have the same feel as the real thing. But I do still prefer LP to anything else including Sense (most of the time)
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I think that is a loaded question. My thinking is Sense is for people that like Sense and AOSP roms are for people that don't care for it. I'm just trying to make things simple.
IMO, sense feels more professional, while anything else is for enthusiasts. And the Widgets in lpp are cool and all, but really they are a joke compared to the sense Widgets. And the intergration is nice too, something aosp hasn't done yet.

I actually don't care for the Sense widgets or the Rosie launcher at all. I use the Pure Messenger widget from the Market, and while it's not as pretty as a Sense widget, it combines e-mail, text/sms messages, phone calls, facebook and twitter into a single messaging widget as opposed to Sense's separate widgets for each.
As for the launcher, I just can't justify dedicating the whole bottom of the screen to 2 buttons - the app drawer and the phone button. The customize button is stupid, once you have the phone set up the way you like, that button is largely useless.
Of course, these are just my opinions, but to me, Sense is far from superior/more professional than anything else.
The Clock with weather is the main reason most stick to Sense, it has a cleaned look/feel that add to the homescreen. I personally can't do AOSP I miss the weather clock from sense until I switch back, I love unlocking my phone to a new animation

Fancy widget pro is better than the sense clock, you can get the senseclock, plus tons of different themed clocks, that is what i use. I like the sense photo album widget, which is pretty much the only widget that doesn't have a replacement app. I can't say i enjoy sense when very much and i usually run an AOSP rom (omfgb currently) but have a couple nice sense rom backups on my phone for when I'm itching to use sense.
