Movies best way to convert them and player to play em? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering Ive been trying to watch movies but I cant figure out how to watch them good on the evo. I've tried arc media with my avi's but the audio doesn't sync good with the movies. I also tried converting them to mpeg4 cause I read that is the best format for the HTC player but then the file is enormous and I have to empty my memory card just to put it on. So my question is how does everyone here watch movies on there evos what is the best video app or converter and format for my pc and if there are any apps like media hub that the galaxy phones have?

HOLY RUN-ON SENTENCE BATMAN
I just use Handbrake to convert to mp4, at the same time shrinking it to about 300mb and use the stock video player- works great.

lol there are some periods in there. Thx ill try that sounds a lot better than a 7gb movie. Now besides for that are there any programs similar to media hub I can rent movies or buy em right on my phone

Have the digital copy of Iron Man 2 and Star Trek.
IM2 in WMV will not play

You can use Rock Player or YXPlayer. Both Players will play .wmv files...

Hmmm Rock player failed on playback. Hmm will play with it some more
Rockplayer tries to play the WMV but the picture is all garbled and no sound. Rockplayer sees the .m4v file but says it is not activated.
MixZing works fine with WMV, IIRC.

Wow never had an issue with rock player... Used it to play mostly .avi though. Played a few .wmv files but most of my movies and video files are .avi or .mkv. Try using yxplayer, I personal prefer rock player but if it's not working then give yxplayer a shot.

Same here - doesn't play digital copy
I also tried to play my digital copy of IM2 on my HTC desire using rockplayer and get garbled picture with no sound.
Looked and yxplayer's feedback on the market and looks to be the same (or worse). Some comment that it may be a drm issue...
If anyone knows a workaround for this, that would be great!
Use handbrake and convert your videos to a format people actually use.

+2 Handbrake, here's a guide

Edit: Handbreak guide link seems to be down. Might just be a problem with their site.
I use tunebite. Converts to.mp4. Just make sure the file size is less than 2 gb because it wont play.

The ugly truth is any digital copy has drm and won't play natively on android no matter what those market players claim.
Handbrake can't do **** to convert drm dc's.
The only way to get your dc's onto android is to use tunebite and do a real time screen capture. I have done this 4 times now and all have been successful. If you capture it right, the final size will be smaller than the dc (mine usually trim around .8 gb's on average from the dc) and still have the same quality (tunebite finals my files at 95 - 97% quality).
A word of caution though, do not screen capture the itunes dc as it makes it harder for you to capture in 720p (if the dc is natively 720).
Good luck.

[Q] what to play AVIs with instead of rockplayer?

i have an old copy of rockplayer which (now that i'm trying to use it) wants to be activeted for free playback - it can't activate so is useless.

I use arc media player.

using vplayer as of yest
arc media wouldnt open any files. even mp4s that the stock media player would. weird.
moboplayer its not in marketplace http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
QQplayer is also worth a look, auto scans your SD, and only presents you with video files to play, also saves your position on multiple files, so resuming playback, even across multiple videos, is easy.
w w w.appbrain.com/app/qqplayer/com.tencent.research.drop
Rockplayer is the fastest player with the best neon optimizations support as far as I know but now I'm not so sure anymore since I've read about Moboplayer... I definitely gotta give it a try, thank you infamous6622 for the tip
i'm using vPlayer too - not had any issues with it so far
vplayer only found 2 of the 5 videos on my card. when i tried to get it to rescan, it crashed! Am currently trying meridian, seems ok at the moment.
Zimly is an awesome Player!!
Another vote for QQplayer, it also does not need any special permissions whereas if you care to look at Zimly it wants to
"read phone state and identity
Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like."
as well as
"change Wi-Fi state
Allows an application to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points, and to make changes to configured Wi-Fi networks."
Call me a cynic but without knowing any more details of the above there's no way I'd install Zimly.

No sound from videos on pc

Hi,
I have wiped my desire as it was getting very full so I fancied a clean, I copied all my pics and videos to my pc and now they play ok but have no sound. This is very frustrating as I have videos of my baby boy laughing and playing now with no audio.
Please do you have any ideas as now there are a lot of memories destroyed.
Thank you for your time.

On your pc you can see that the video files also have an audio stream? (in properties) Do you have the codecs installed? (Try K-Lite Codec Pack).
If it's a codec issue on your computer, you might wanna try out VLC media player. It's free and to be honest I haven't come across a codec it didn't recognize.
I'd link their webpage but I can't yet, but simply google VLC media player and it should be the top result. Best of luck.
If you tried playing it through something like windows media player, it may well be a case of it not being able to recognise the audio codec. Try out VLC player like the previous guy said..

[Q] HD Movies

I see loads of people talking about watching HD movies on their One X's. Just wondering how you get them. Is it a case of downloading them on your pc then transferring to the phone, or are they gotten from htc watch or something?
And if its the former, what formats are supported by the phone?
Well i don't think hatches started selling true hd content yet...but its easier to get them on your pc and transfer them to ur device. And download a app called mx player and it will pretty much play any codec and format with ease...

I copied one .avi format movie from my pc to the phone, it was a BDRIP.
Did not have any problems running it on default player, and the quality was awesome as well...

What size file out of interest. It seems we cannot copy files over 4GB because of FAT32
Just split the videos if they are bigger than 4GB, if you output the split files directly to the mass storage of your One X, you even wont lose time doing it.
Anyone got streaming over wifi working? Can stream ok between xbmc machines so my network is clearly up to it. The one x claps out after a couple of seconds tho when streaming 720p. Using Es file explorer to navigate to smb shares, could this be the problem? Any alternatives?

The best HW media player for the One X

Anybody know which the best HW supporting media player is for the One X?
I really like dice player but it won't let me fast forward M2TS files :/
try bs player (my player of choice for hd content) or mx player.
I think alla other players than DICE player makes the HOX get hot .
I watch videos all the time using bs player and it doesn't get hot for me. Long story short though try those apps see which is best for you.
Dice player for me is awful there's loads of my media it doesn't play well (it struggles with the audio tracks mostly).
I think BSplayer is the best one! It plays everything! It even plays in HW-mode through network, which most of the other have serious problems with. And directly from rars too.
However, the only player we know for sure that's using the companion core is the built in one, but maybe power-saving isn't any concern? But with HW-decode on the other players, one should think the load should be low enough for the companion core, but who knows?
yup thats what I found, if you want something that just works with your media bs player is the one. I tried every player going for some of my media and that was the only one that handled the audio tracks properly etc.
I dont think any 3rd party players yet will be optimized for tegra 3 to use the companion core, the stock player does it so thats good it shows it can be done but there are not many devices out there yet with tegra 3 so 3rd party apps havent caught up.
No luck either on all players i've tried with fast forwarding m2ts files
Bs player was one of the best ones I found
However I think i'll stick to Dice player for now, everything seems to play smoothly. Just a shame I can't fast forward/rewind m2ts files
Have you tried Mobo player? It's free and so far has managed everything I have thrown at it...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yeah i've tried that as well sadly, it doesn't like my m2ts files either
I'll have to find some way of muxing them to mkv cheers anyway
you could try format factory http://www.formatoz.com/ and I hear good things about video spirt (get the light version for free) http://www.verytools.com/videospirit/index.html
I am using mx player pro version and it is good. It can play all videos.

MXPlayer.
It's bad-ass. I haven't found anything it won't play (oh.... hang on, flv's! - but I don't have any)
+1 for MXPlayer. This app is awesome. Great quality video and support subs.
But what I like the most is that it can play file streamed from PC with very little buffering (depend on video size though). I really enjoy watching without having to transfer tons of files to the phone
Also an MX player user. Would get the pro if it was on sale otherwise happy with the free version.

I used mxplayer for a while but it struggled with Mkv with ac3, and in s/w mode it got hot.
I switched to dice and it not only plays Mkv with ac3 flawlessly but stays cool.
Watching 720p videos on this phone is just amazing... Sometimes it's better than watching on a big screen. there is more depth to the picture.

thats basically exactly the issue I keep having with it, loads of my media is MKV and most of it has AC-3 audio which mx player fails at. Sure dice works well for it but so does BS player
Either way there are good options out there, its just a shame that I ended up paying for mx player and vplayer etc only to have to use a free app (bs player) because they dont do as good a job

Hi.. Sorry I may sound noob but I've never knew we can stream videos from pc to HTC one X. Can you please guide me how to do so? And yeah I have MX player, if that is what's required.
Just share your movies as you would share any other folder, open it with a file manager from your phone and play the files (this is technically "streaming" but still you watch your movies without having to transfer them). MX does nice job but some files need to be played in sw mode when played from a network location.
