apps won't restore - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

did a backup pro of apps+data and data(contacts)
installed a new rom
restored from the backups.
but the majority of apps haven't restored although there was no error given after the restore. initially it looks like the apps that where on the sd card haven't restored. the links to them are there but when you click it says this app is no longer installed on this phone.
seems as if its an issue with the apps being on the sd ?

had a good go at doing it other ways still no joy

Soft reset wipe out your sd card data?

I was turning off my wifi (I use it at home, at work I can't get on the wireless, I don't even know why they have it if they don't let anyone on it) and it hung. So instead of going to settings > applications and force closing (I uninstalled ATK), I just did a soft reset.
Well, I get a message upon restarting that says the SD card is damaged and needs to be reformatted. Luckily any good pics I took I uploaded, and my apps don't look like they've been affected...
Has this happened to anyone? Anyone at all? I've read other threads that show the card works on a computer but not in the phone, some data being deleted due to
I thought the OTA firmware update fixed the sd card issue.
FYI I'm using a 16 GB (class 2 unfortunately) microSD from San Disk. Tried doing a full root but said screw it after having some issues. Reverted to stock with OTA update and applied the partial root method via unrEVOked.
Micro SD card wiped after phone restart
I installed Android Revolution HD™ 3.6.7 XE | 4.1.7 Sense 3.5 on my HTC sensation 4g yesterday.
I was sorting through my contacts and did a backup to my micro SD card then deleted all from phone, google and sim. Then I reinstalled the Vcard copy of my contacts from my micro SD, (16gb Lexar), card all good up until this point.
After that I restarted my phone and all my data on my SD card was gone!
I had a backup of Titanium Backup on Dropbox but none of my photos were there.
Is my backup of my original rom going to be on Titanium Backup, or was the only copy going to be on my SD card?
Thanks
Flash memory cards do fail occasionally.

ROM backups stay on SD always back your SD up to the pc. I do mine every few days just overwrite the old card backup with the new one so u just get the new stuff you've saved, and don't end up with a bunch of backup folders that are mostly the same thing. And yes flash memory, especially cheaper flash cards or lower class that have been tweaked to speed them up can fail.

Thanks for you're reply EViL-KoNCEPTz- .
I thought I was getting a good quality card when I bought Lexar, class 6 if I recall.
Can you please answer one more question for me. I did a titanium backup, which was backed up to Dropbox. Will that have saved my original ROM?
It didn't save my pictures.

One time my roommate gave me his stock 16gb Samsung SD card from the epic because asurion sent him a brand new phone. Loaded synergy on it. It booted up twice before failing. Could not get it to recongize in any device, whether it was a camera, phone, or computer.

Titanium Backup's Dropbox sync only syncs what you backup with Titanium Backup. Titanium Media Sync will backup other stuff though. Backing up multiple nandroid backups will eat up your space pretty quickly. So to answer your question, no. Titanium Backup didn't backup your original rom, only your apps and their data.
Now you know to be sure to back up any important files to your computer. Good news is that you can just run an RUU or flash the stock rom to get back to stock.

Thanks plainjane for you reply.
This is my first attempt so total noob.
I did write some stuff down while I was following this guide "[Guide] to Installing S-off, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on [03/AUG/11](noobproof)".
Device HTC SEnsation 4G
CPyramid-1.18.000,Android 2.3.4/ROM version 1.45.531.1
Revolutionary
Pyramid put Ship S-OFF rl
HBOOT-1.17.1111
RADIO-10.14.9035.01_M
eMMC-boot
June 2 2011,22:31:39
So, if I need to return to stock I just download this file?
RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.45.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208218_signed
(this is an RUU, where to I find ROMS? Do they to the same thing?)
One last question?
Do you just put your microSD card in your comp and copy all the file or do you use some backup software?
Thanks to all who have posted!

I had the same thing happen to me the first month I had my evo. All I did was buy a card reader and connect to pc. Right click the drive and select properties. I believe under tools u can check drive for errors. It found the errors, fixed them, and I never had a problem again. The card is still in my og and works fine.

I formatted my card a couple of time and and all is good now.
There hasn't been a problem with the card again.
Thanks

Why did all of my apps on the SD card disappear? (after restore from recovery)

So I am currently running CM7 7.0.3.1 on my Evo. I decided to update to the 7.1 RC1, so I did a nandroid backup then flashed it. It worked perfect, but when I went to flash the Mattedblues theme, I got bootloops, so I restored back to my 7.0.3.1 backup. Now when I look at my home screens all I see is this. Those were all my apps that were missing on my SD card. They are apps with official install to SD card support.
When I go to manage applications, then SD card, I see this. They are there but will not let me move them back to the phone or anything.
Why is it doing this? How can I fix it?
Nobody can help?
First off are you're using the official move to SD feature and not one of the third party options requiring an EXT partition?
If you're using the official method then those apps are stored in the the encrypted android_secure folder on your SD card. It's my understanding the have to back it up using recovery just like you would a normal partition.

apps to sd after switching roms

If I have the app on the sd card before switching roms, does that app data stay on the sd card taking up space when putting the app back on the new rom and moving to the sd card?
I just started using mybackup root to reinstall my apps since I like to switch roms alot. I noticed my sd card was losing space when I wopuld just go to the market and reinstall everything from scratch using appbrain to reinstall my apps.

My experience has been that the new rom won't see any apps you moved to the SD card. Plus, you won't be able to move any restored apps to the SD card because of the old copy. What I do is delete the .android_secure directory. That's where the apps are stored. It may look empty but if you connect to a PC and look in the directory all the apps will be there.
I think deleting the .android_secure directory should be standard practice when restoring a backup.
Thanks, I'll try that.

This doesn't belong in development. Post questions in Q&A.
Apps to SD apps will only show up on the Rom they were moved on.
I don't know if this helps. but when i switch roms. i install easy installer from the market and all the apps show up and i can choose what to install on the new rom. i thought this might help. or you can remove it from there as well.....

[Q] DTA2SD + Titanium Backup

So here's something I've noticed. I'm running Evo Classic v 0.03, but it's happened no matter what ROM I've done it on.
If I restore an app through TIbackup, it installs to the internal memory, but if I download and install the app manually through the market, it will correctly move the app to the SD card like it's supposed to....Is there anyway to have TIbackup place the restored apps on the SD card, or do I always have to restore my apps by hand if I use DTA2SD??

I would like to know the answer to that too..I have having to restore all my apps from the market then restore data to those apps with tb..there has got to be a better way
There's an option in TB to select where it should be installed when you restore. But if you're using Darktremor's A2SD, you actually want it on internal memory. You've partitioned off space to be reserved for your data partition, and if you use Android' move to SD function, you're not using it. Instead, you're taking up space on your SD's FAT32 partition, which is now smaller.
It ends up on your SD card either way though. You can even mix up using both if you want. You just don't want to be in the situation where your EXT partition is empty and all of your apps are on the SD through Android's move to SD function.
This is not a solution but my experience with TB and DTa2sd has always been positive. I have never touched the settings on TB as far as where to restore the backups so I assume they are being restored to memory and DTa2sd moves them to the ext partition. I just recently rooted my EVO so I'm no expert but I have flashed a bunch of roms (aosp and sense) with no problem with TB restoring apps.

Titanium Backup restored apps, but not the data.

I flashed a new ROM. And I used Titanium to restore my apps. Everything appeared fine until i realized that many of my apps had no histories at all. I tried to restore data only for a couple of them, and there was still no data. Does anyone know what could have happened?
When I first launched Titanium on the new ROM it couldn't find any backup. I had to ask it to manually scan the entire phone before it found it.

Is there a different location you saved to such as ExtSD card? I save mine to ExtSD card and every time I flashed a new ROM I would have to go into preferences and chose the ExtSD location.

Yeah! It appears that at some point I chose to store it on my external SD card. But that shouldn't cause the app data missing issue.

Heh, could try FolderMount and mount the files on /extSdcard to your phones internal memory, let TB find it, then unmount them. It will work but not sure why it didn't earlier.
When you want to backup anything, I recommend ease backup on the playstore. Never had an issue, always have issues with tb
