[Q] Need Help Rooting in XP [SOLVED] - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've rooted my phone before with win7 but today im at work and after unrooting my phone (UI issues i had to fix) i am now trying to root it again but on a Win XP computer. I have the drivers and the Unrevoked reflash pkg unzipped and all that + i made sure i have USB debugging turned on. I tried 2 ways of doing it once with debugging on before i ran the reflash and once where i turned it on after starting the reflash.
Is there anyone who may have some ideas on what issues i'm facing?
I found a fix to that issue but now im stuck with as message saying waiting for bootloader; make sure driver is installed!

Ignore this thread now...I fixed it myself!!! yay me!
lol might want to add some where if it isn't posted elsewhere that if you have WinXP you need to make sure your HTC drivers are installed. And to do that you can download HTC Sync from their website then uninstall HTC Sync but not the drivers!!!!
After that if you already had the Android USB modified drivers installed you will need to do that again! Don't ask me why but you do because I had to lol. After that everything should be fine when you go to use Unrevoked 3.21 (or newest one that will come out after that).
I did run into an error where communication with the phone was severred but i just ran the reflash tool again and it worked. (random error)

unable to root evo 4g with simpleroot or unrevoked

Hi all
I tried to root my evo (which had received the OTA 1.47.651.1 update already), but I've run into some problems...
I tried using the simpleroot OTA edition, but kept getting an error in step 3 where the script was unable to create a file in /data/app-cache/...
After that I tried the newly released unrevoked 3 method, which appeared to be working until near the end it rebooted the phone and said it was flashing the recovery, but the phone booted as normal and the program sat there saying it was flashing the recovery for >10min at which point I closed the program.
I was going to try one of the manual methods, but new when I boot into the HBOOT I get an error saying the main version is older, update failed. I've tried a couple different PC36IMG.zip files and all of them get the same error. And if I try to do a factory reset the phone just boots into the HBOOT screen and does nothing.
My phone can still boot normally and is usable except the camera will not turn on.
Can anyone try to help me fix my phone and get it rooted? Or at least restored to its original state?
Thanks in advance for any help!
ok scratch the camera part, after leaving the phone off for a bit and rebooting it appears to be working again... but the rest is still messed up
i had the same or similar problem because i had tried both root methods.
i got it to work with unrevoked 3 after:
1. removing pc36img.zip from the root of the SD card (apparently it'll always try to load a local image before attempting to connect to the PC)
2. uninstalling htc sync from the PC (others say this wasn't necessary, but it was definitely the step that allowed it to work successfully for me)
It turns out PDAnet also interferes with the driver accessing the evo.
Once i removed htc sync and pdanet both from my computer i was able to root my phone successfully.
not sure what the issue with simpleroot was though, but i didn't explore too deeply since unrevoked 3.1 worked now.
Man, that just saved the day for me! Thanks for the info about deleting the zip file.
hey I am having a similar proble with not being able to root. I tried all the stuff you guys suggested but it still wont work.
-i never installed htc sync or PDAnet
am i doing something wrong?

[Q] Unprovoked does not work on 2.1

Hi
Unprovoked (latest version) tried on the MAC and PC does not root my HTC Desire running Android 2.1. I have tried everything possible and it just does not grant me root access to the phone.
What are my options, what other software can I try, to root the phone, preferably PC based.
Thanks
Thread moved to Q&A.

Good Lord, of course it doesn't. There is no rooting tool known as unprovoked.

Please, describe the problem that you are facing, what steps you have taken, etc.
Don't ask stupid questions (or ask questions stupidly) and expect anyone to be able to have a vision of your problem, diagnose it correctly AND help you solve it.
lol a classic typo, I was provoked using unrevoked hehe I wish I could change the subject title now, and of course meant unrevoked (sorry was too tired after trying it for many many hours) ... i know that many people have had success rooting their phones with this tool.
My phone got stuck in a reboot cycle after using unrevoked on 2.2, so I downgraded to 2.1-update1 and tried unrevoked again but the same problem happened and no root access. Then I took the battery out for a few minutes, powered it back on, and so far it's been stable, i.e. no reboots. This morning I also powered off and back on again and the phone has not rebooted. I just can't understand it.
Moving forward, is there another option, a different tool which I could use which can root Android 2.1.
Did you enable usb debugging?

Yes and selected default connection type to charge only.
Have you installed HtC Sync then removed it? Making sure the drivers are left on?
I tried on both the PC and MAC. The MAC does'nt require messing around with USB drivers.
On the PC, HTC sync was uninstalled with the drivers left installed ( unrevoked modified USB driver ) and then ran unrevoked.
So I now have HBOOT 0.83.0001 and Android 2.1.
I tried unprovoked once more today, and the phone is stuck in a reboot loop.
1.
I take out the battery, and the phone boots and then reboots once i see the multi-coloured HTC background and then goes into that infinite reboot cycle before I can make any changes.
2.
HBOOT is trying to find an image with a name similar to : PB99IMG.ZIP which it can't find so reboots in a loop until the battery in taken out and then returns to 1.

[Q] Help rooting

I'm trying to root my Evo using the latest version of unrevoked, I've tried it both on my mac and pc. I've had no trouble installing the drivers for pc. My only problem is that every time i connect my phone to either computer its just says " waiting for device" and never starts the process. I've read that if i mount it as a storage device on my mac that it would work and I've tried it and it still hasn't. any suggestions?
someone tell me if im wrong but i believe the latest revisions of the evo come with an currently unrootable bootloader..i havnt done much research lately on that but this is what i read a few weeks ago..good luck with that
edit:appears to be hacked with latest version// http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895208

lost my HTC driver.. Help Please

I was in the process of getting hboot drivers installed on my PC and lost my HTC drivers.... I finely got my bootloader interface running but also need the HTC drivers to run android flasher as said in this post...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638 .....every where I look it never states clearly what download I should chose .. I do have the program "driverMender" but it only says its missing not where I can reacquire it from........PLEASE help.... Im stuck at this point....
Download htc sync, then uninstall it.
you want me to download htc sync then uninstall htc sync??????I dont understand that be I'm doing it... thats the first answer I have got in a day and a half......Thanks
-Nods- Exactly that. You just need the drivers the program installs for the phone. Leaving the program installed causes problems when rooting, so you delete it. After you're rooted, you can re-install it.
im already rooted is that a problem
Naaaw, you're still good to go.
But you also got he hboot drivers?
ya I lost htc drivers when I was getting hboot drivers. but its good to go i just need to replace htc....which i'm finely onmy way.... I tell you thanks... I have been on my PC all day trying to fixs this...
Well at least you could end the day on a positive note.
after I install the program do I uninstall it right away or do the find my device portion
Well since you're rooted, don't need to uninstall, you can go to the find my device portion.
well i have never had the need for the program as of yet. guess i'll keep sence I have already done the due..... again thank you
Glad to have helped.

[Q] computer wont recognize my phone after recovery update

hey all,
ive been a member for a while, but have never posted. i usually am always reading and trying to keep up with updates, and how to's... i am currently running liberated Aria FROO8 (2.6.32.17-cyanogen-Liberty), and have been for some time. i am nervous usually when it comes to rom updates, so i dont update constantly (if anyone has a great rom i should update to, please dont hesitate to shout it out). the problem was when i decided to update to Clockworkmod recovery 3.2 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003723
now, my computer does not recognize my phone, and will only charge the phone. i have tried to reinstall unrevoked, but when i go through the steps, my device manager or registers it as My Htc, and i cannot update using the drivers i downloaded. it seems that its the computer not accepting the phone and not the phone restricting anything. please, please, can someone help, i need to be able to access my phone on my computer, and i have read all 33 pages of the forum thread i linked above. what do i need to do? is there a way to uninstall the recovery 3.2? if i were to upgrade to a new ROM, would the computer still not recognize the computer. i realize as well, after the fact, that i installed the recovery meant for the Desire.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused by your post, but if I've read correctly you have an Aria, not a Desire HD. You shouldn't flash the CWM you linked to - it's compiled specifically for the Desire HD. I'm not sure how you would get a working unrevoked back on your phone - it might be better to ask in the Aria forums.
Apologies if I've misunderstood your question.
Thanks again for posting so quickly. i am gonna post my same problem on the Aria page, and hopefully i can find someone who knows. the only reason i posted here, was because i got the CWM on the page that i linked, someone mentioned roughly the same problem i had:
"When i plug in the USB cable it says " Fastboot USB "
and my windows gives a popup " Device Driver Not correctly installed "
plus it seemed to be the computer that wasn't allowing the device to be found and installed. just to clear up my problem: it was exactly what you said, i downloaded and tried to install CWM 3.2 on an Aria phone, and i think the computer is waiting for me to plug in a Desire. Since i have the Aria, it cannot. hopefully i can get this fixed.
thanks again
sullylove
on my post to Aria Q/A i added this:
how can i get my computer to recognize this Aria without having to reboot everything and try to start from scratch, does anyone know if i need to reinstall CWM and which one would work for me. when i plugged my phone after install, its states that device driver not installed correctly. then when i run through the instructions loacated here:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how...droid-devices/
and here:
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/do...driver_install
and neither load a correct driver onto my computer, my computer does not register it as Other Device/Android 1.0, it registers it as My Htc.
hopefully it will clear things up
sullylove
is there also a way to delete the CWM 3.2 i installed on the computer, i cant seem to find it anywhere, where would it be
To be honest, any advice I could give might not be correct for the Aria. I imagine that you could flash an RUU and start again from scratch with unrevoked, but there may be a simpler way to restore the correct recovery. Your best bet is really the Aria forums. I hope you get it working!
As for removing the CWM from your PC, it depends how you installed it. Some of the recoveries come as a zip file, so look for where you downloaded it to and possibly a folder with the same name as the zip.
