[Q] Orange brand but Vodafone SIM - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there
I bought an Orange branded phone off a friend but I'm using my Vodafone network sim. Will I get the Froyo updated over the air or must I use a gold card. I'm struggling to see why Orange would push the update to me.
Thanks in advance
Mike

I think you could still get the update. But if I were you is debrand the phone. You can find many guides by searching around.

Okay thanks.
Want to debrand as a last resort though - would have to buy new SD card, right?
Does anyone else know if I can get update normally?
Thanks

Query Regarding Getting the Desire from London

Well the topic is about the Desire and how to get it but I was not sure which forum to put it in so posted it here.
Well my Brother is moving to London for 2 years. Now he has his N95 (unlocked) which he would like to continue using as he has his paid apps installed on it and stuff.
Now he's getting a HTC Desire on contract. So If he uses the Contract Sim in his N95 and sends back the Desire to me here in India, I could unlock it and use it with any data carrier here in India right?
Yes you could unlock / debrand the Desire and use it on another network.

This reminds me of one of those Nigeria scams

you will be able to use it no probs in india, you may want to check with the network you use in india and make sure that they use a compatible 3g band if that is important to you

He will be either on T Mobile or Vodafone
The network won't care right even if he's using his contract sim in his other unlocked phone?

Well I use vodafone here and as of yet there is no 3G so it might not make a differrnce. Any idea what 3G band is used in India though?

Oh and one more thing.
Some guy on tech enclave was saying that if you unlock your phone using the unlock code the phone will once again get locked after I update my phone software to Froyo.
Is that true? I thought this only happened in iPhones? If it's true what are my alternative means of unlocking?
Thank you everyone
Simply re use the same unlock code you originally used to unlock the phone and you'll be fine.

That would work right? Or will they not let you re use the same code?
It worked for me when my phone was re locked after debranding, its worked for others on here too.

Could you tell me what site you or others used for unlocking the phone from which you could re use the key?
Anyone know How much would it cost in customs to get a Desire from the UK to India?

T-Mobile Germany FroYo OTA Update?

Hi,
I'm on the German O2, but I bought the phone from an eBay guy who had in turn bought it from T-Mobile Germany. The only sign of T-Mobile on the phone is the logo during boot. It is not SIM-locked and neither has any hardware branding.
Should I be able to see the update?
Probably not. It shows the T-Mobile screen when booting which means it is branded.

Thanks for the quick answer! I'll probably root my current version and then install the rooted update from this thread anyway:

should work fine, they both belong to the asia region, you may have to check the radio frequencies of the service provider you wish to use if you want 3G, but as a standard 2G device there will be no problems
I think it could be SIM locked though. That can be changed using tools like gfree.

Thanks for quick reply. I asked my friend to buy unlocked version. It seems to be little cheaper than in India.
cheers,
Venkat
in any case, you always could root and flash a new radio to work properly in your service provider, =o)... i bought mine from singapore too and works fine here in Brazil, so i really believe there's no problem to get it in India....
Claro Edge + CM7 RC1
thiagodark what version are you using for the radio ? I can make my connection to be stable with Claro at Brazil.
The data connection always run with edge, I'm using this version for the radio 12.28b.60.140eP_26.03.02.15_M3. A already try other radio version and only works with the Stock OS, but for a couple of minutes.
Any help for this ?
Thanks,

any sim

Quick question,
I've rooted my dhd, running a custom rom. So does this mean I can use any carrier simcard or is there some other steps to do this? Its unbranded on orange UK
Thanks in advance

If your DHD is unbranded as you say, obviously you can use any carrier simcard
Cheers, I've never had to put a different sim in any of my phones so I didn't have a clue

Using Verizon HTC ONE m9 in Japan

Hey guys,
I read that the phone is "global" and sim unlocked, but I am wondering whether or not it will work with softbank particularly? I read that the service bands are different, but I cannot find any other source other than one, but people do say it should work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It is a global phone so it should work. However it makes little sense to buy a Verizon wireless m9 if you are not on Verizon. The phone is completely locked down and requires a Java card to turn soff. I would suggest looking at another carriers branded phone as most are cheaper anyways

I already have the phone. So I can get a sim card here and it should work?
It should be double check your freqs.
