Trying to root my HTC INCREDIBLE...
Downloaded:
android-sdk_r07-windows
android-usb-driver
reflash_package
I installed the usb driver and the android is showing in my device manager. The sdk is currently installing. My droid is on and connected to computer and also USB debugging is on, I'm not sure if I have HTC Sync, but when I go into Settings>Accounts & Sync I turn the Syncing off, is that it? Correct me if I'm wrong. Other sources say uninstall iTunes Agent and doubletwist and that's what I did.
I opened unrevoked recovery and it just sits at "Waiting for device. Plug phone in and enable USB debugging. Make sure HTC SYNC is not installed."
Help please! Thanks!

You need to uninstall HTC Sync from your computer if you installed it. Did you download unrEVOked's drivers? There is a post in the Development forum for this, make sure you follow that. I am assuming you're running FroYo (2.2)?

I was having similar issues. I had installed the drivers and when I opened the reflash package.exe file with the phone plugged in with USB debugging on it would just sit there and do nothing.
This is what I did to fix it. I downloaded the HTCSync directly from HTC. After the whole thing installed I went into my "add/remove programs" and deleted HTC sync but left the HTC drivers there.
Then I reconnected my phone and opened up the reflashpackage.exe file from Unrevoked 3.21 and everything went smoothly after that.
PM me if you have any questions. Good luck

HTC Sync and Vista 32

Hello everyone
Great forum. Was able to root/nand unlock and flash DC with ease from all of the information here, even with the EVO being my first smartphone. Thank you all.
Now my question is about trying to get the HTC Sync to work with my Windows Vista. I have Home Premium and nothin I have tried is working. The computer sees the HTC and I have tried several drivers, but it will not initialize the driver and HTC Sync won't connect. I can run as a HDD and that works fine, but trying to sync or charge only will not allow me to run CMD tools.
I have the beautiful Scetched Android boot image through using a root file manager, but would like to create a custom splash screen.
And I guess I need to sync to flash.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Criim
Are you running the latest version of the software? Haven't heard any specific issues with Vista 32. Also check that you aren't using any kind of extension cable between your computer and your USB cable. Try another USB port as well.
Here's a link to HTC Sync:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/
Edit: Also, just to make sure, you are not using HTC sync to apply a custom boot video right? Cause as far as I know, you don't use it for that. I've never used HTC sync for anything other than the USB drivers for ADB. I thought once you made the video that you applied it via either a ROM image or by uploading it using ADB, HTC SYNC is just a backup/syncing program for the phone.

It is the USB cable that came with the EVO plugged right into the computer and have tried 2 different slots. I am not really trying for the sync. It is just a good indicator for if the driver is working correctly, which it isn't for some reason.
I just wanted it to connect so I can run commands at the CMD prompt.
I already have the boot video and root/nand unlocked through file managers and the term emu. Now I want to flash a new splash screen, but to do that I think I *have* to flash it from the PC. If you know of a way to do it in some other way, I'd love to hear how.
Going to take a nap, but was thinking about trying to uninstall my AntiVirus, just in case one of the services was screwing with the driver. I had it turned off, but it might have had a service that was still there.

Edit:
Well I tried unistalling my AVG, rebooting into safe mode to remove any instances of the HTC driver, and then did a fresh install of the above file. Still shows an error in the device manager with my EVO plugged in.
"Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)"
I even tried to plug it into all 8 of my USB slots just in case.
I'm stumped.

I'm having the same problem. I just rooted my Evo and now I can't connect to HTC Sync at all. Device manager shows "My HTC" installed properly. Evo connects to pc fine but times out when trying to connect to HTC Sync.
I've tried downgrading to HTC Sync 2.0.31. I'm currently trying with 2.0.40 with same results. Nothing.

[Q] Help with rooting - stuck with unrevoked

Hi,
I'm trying to root my phone. I'm up to the step where I install unrevoked and run it.
When I do I get the message:
Waiting for device. Plug phone in now and enable USB debugging.
I have my phone plugged in and USB Debugging is enabled, but nothing happens.
The drivers I needed to download would not install until I booted my phone into hboot. (Then it showed the android 1.0 device so I installed the drivers).
I've rebooted my phone now, and I have tried connecting both as HTC Sync and as a Disk Drive (on the phone).
I believe HTC Sync has been completely removed from my computer, so I'm stuck at where to go next. Can someone help please?
Edit: When I connect using 'HTC Sync' as the method on the phone, I get an Unknown Device appear in my list of drivers. I can't install the 'drivers' provided with Unrevoked here. Have I missed a step?
Thanks & Regards
Adza
Never mind - found the problem. I uninstalled both HTC Sync and HTC Driver installer. Once I put HTC Driver installer back on, all ran like clockwork. (I needed to also choose HTC Sync on the phone when connecting the USB Cable).

[Q] ADB, Windows USB Driver and Windows Memory dump Problems

Hardware: HTC Desire A8181
Running Leedroid 2.2e
Base: HTC Official FroYo Sense FR91
Baseband version: 32.38.00.32U_5.11.05.14
Kernel version: 2.6.32.15-leedroid_2.2e
Computer OS: Vista 32-bit SP2.
My Problem is a bit complicated. I want to apologize first for the lengthy explanation, my newbness, bad English and any incovenience I might cause.
When I rooted my desire using unrevoked 3, one of the first requirements was to install a Windows Hboot Driver. Followed the instruction at unrevoked, I booted my phone into boot-loader menu and installed the unrevoked modified usb driver provided on this site (I think this modified driver was meant to work with Hboot as well as ADB as a usb driver). Btw, I uninstalled HTC sync and kept HTC driver installer before the process.
After rooting, I flashed my phone with leedroid rom and a corresponding rodio. Afterwards, I downloaded android SDK for windows to my system and I used it to remove some apps that came with the leedroid rom. At that time, I didn't install the USB Driver for Windows from android developers and ADB was working for me to some extent.
From this point on, often when I connect my desire to my PC(with usb debugging sometimes enabled, sometimes not), my windows goes into memory dump. I suspected the modified Hboot driver from unrevoked 3 to be the cause of the problem. Thus, I uninstalled the driver and followed instructions at Android Developers, trying to install the usb driver. I enabled USB Debugging on my phone and connected my phone to my pc. In Device manager, under other devices, i right click on ADB device and pointed to the usb driver folder I downloaded with SDK Manager; however, a message came up saying windows can not find the driver for my device.
At this point, I hope someone could help on how to install this USB Driver from Android Developers. I would also appreciate any suggestions on causes of my computer's memory dumps, when I connect my phone to it. Thank you very much for your time and effort.
When u say memory dump you mean bsod rite? Anyway, the modified unrevoked driver shouldnt be causing the problem, as its a hboot driver your not using adb while in hboot, and as you said you still get the memory dump when usb debugging is not enabled? Then its prob not adb causing the problem.... all i can suggest is deleting the android sdk and re-downloading, you can easly imstall the stock hboot driver by, reinstalling htc sync then connect your device to your pc while in hboot!

After the post, I uninstalled the hboot driver. I simply plugged my phone to my pc a few times. Bsod comes up 1/5 times when debugging is not activated and 1/2 times when debugging is activated on the phone. I think it's gonna take a genious to find out why my pc memory dumps.
At the moment, I more curious as to how i can install the stock usb driver for windows from android developers.

[Q] Device not recognized

Hello,
For some reason my HTC Desire Z isn't recognized in Windows anymore.
It appears as Unknown Device in the Dev Man.
I have tried uninstalling all the drivers, and using the Google ADB drivers, but they won't install. I have also tried the HBOOT drivers, but when I am in HBOOT screen and plug the phone it won't even say HBOOT USB PLUG...
Funnily, when I start up the computer, before Windows is loaded, my phone says USB debugging, USB connected, and all of that - and as soon as Windows comes up, these things go away and the phone isn't recognized.
Please help!
Simone
Try downloading and installing HTC Sync (from HTC's website). That has USB drivers in it, which should work.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
I did, but for some reason it won't overwrite the old driver. Maybe something is wrong hardwire-wise, because I get "Unknown Device" and not "Android" in the Dev Man. However, the USB connection seems to come up on the phone before Windows starts up (weird?)
Give me a few hours and when I get home I should be able to upload the driver package I use for mine.
This is the drivers I use.

Manualy update the drivers to your phone in devices, properties. Also there is a windows application that can search out all the drivers on your system called usb search or something to that order, you can stop your phone from seeking these drivers manualy and set up the proper ones

Oh, thank you for all your replies.
It turns out that my cable must have been defective. I tried to manually install the drivers and really nothing worked, so that's where the problem was.
Thank you again!

[Q] Driver software for Windows 8 x64?

I'm trying to root my HTC Desire but falling at one of the first hurdles: I'm not able to install the driver software, I see the following error:
hxxp://i.imgur.com/5n720Wi.png
I'm running Windows 8 64-bit, and I'm trying to follow the steps to root as described here: androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/300866-guide-rooting-htc-android-2-2-1-lower-unrevoked-windows-updated-20th-december-2012-a.html
I've installed HTC Sync and uninstalled HTC manager, and uninstalled Dropbox. I can connect to the Desire via USB both in HBOOT (with a successful USB connection message) and in regular Android OS.
I experimented with a couple other drivers - "Universal_Naked_Driver_0.72.zip" and "Acer_A1.win8.usb_drivers.x86_x64.rar" I found mentioned elsewhere.
Are there other drivers available? Any other advice for me to root this for the first time?
I have posted sometime earlier workaround to get it working on Win8, search.

That's not right. Because your screenshot shows an Android 1.0 Device and this means the Desire isn't connected correctly.
Uninstall ALL about HTC and Desire. start the device manager and there activate in the options show disabled Device. Than you look in EVERY directory for Android, Desire, HTC. And remove the Drivers. right klick, remove and than yes and make sure if there is a option that says complete delet the driver say yes.
For Fastboot drivers:
Start Desire in Fastboot, and than you connect to the PC. Normaly Win 8 searches for Drivers. Than it says nothing found. Try in the Device Manager right Klick on Android 1.0 - If there is something about HTC Bootloader with an ! than you have an diferent problem - and research for drivers -> Internet. Than it normaly should work. If not download these drivers directly from unrevoke.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install directly from unrevoked.
and go to device manager, install drivers from PC. Also here make sure the unknown device is an Android 1.0 if the name is different pls tell us.
For Normal use:
after Fastboot works, you download the newest HTC Sync for Desire: http://www.htc.com/de/support/news.aspx?p_id=312&p_name=htc-desire
Ok run the installation BUT After you startet setup it says something like there are a few things missing befor installing. These are HTC Driver, something about Adobe, install these. After that the installer ask for some agreements for HTC Sync now you cancle the install, because all you need are the drivers and they are now installed. It should work now.
If there are some more problems let me know. I had some trouble with the ADB and fastboot drivers a week ago, too but now it works
