Baked Snack 1.7 WiFi issue? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone I recently switched over from cm6 to backed snack 1.7 and since just that, my phone will not connect to my home WiFi WEP key protected network. The Evo actually recognizes the network but it just keeps showing "Obtaining address..." and no connect. If someone knows howto fix this that would be great! Thankyou!!

Anyone....?

Did you have problems with cm6?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Nope no problems with cm6

Guess no one else has this issue..?

i'm having the same issue, but i don't think its necessarily baked 1.7 b/c i was having this issue prior to installing BS. but i only have issues connecting if i have the encryption turned on.
any ideas are welcome. i don't like non-encrypted wifi!

I had this yesterday. I reflashed the combo radio/prl/NV/wimax zip file and once it rebooted...I "forgot" my wifi network and then reselected it. I connected just fine and it stayed connected....Try that.

[Q] Wireless tether issue

I have a droid incredible with sky raider sense 3.3.2, my issue with wireless tether has persisted through several different roms and the stock rom.
When I launch wireless tether (with or without security) I am able to connect from my mac or pc and surf the web at very slow speeds. The phone is able load web pages faster in the same location then with wifi tether. On top of the slow speeds I am not able to browse the web for more then 15 minutes without losing internet access via wifi, but still connected to the phone. During that time the phone can still surf the web.
The only temporary way to fix this is to reinstall all binaries and configs then restart the phone. When I use the pdanet trail I have, everything is a dream via usb.
My current radio is 2.15.00.07.28, this issue has also been with me for the past 2 radio updates I have done. I have tried turning wifi on and off with no success, disabling all my apps but wifi and superuser.
I'm having the EXACT same issue and have been searching for the past couple hours to try and fix it. Currently on Redemptive rEVOlution 2.1 w/ stock 2.6.32.17 Kernel. Driving me crazy!! .4kb download & .1kb upload speeds... Have removed the .dun as instructed in EPST's settings and am using latest wireless tether (2.05.-pre13).
Has everyone that has come across this thread been able to use wireless tether with no issues? Should it be as simple as having root, froyo & downloading wireless tether? Or changing EPST settings to take out "dun."... Bueller?
Are you using the stock 3g hotspot app or did you download a rooted app?

I've tried both and barnacle

Same issue here too. I have 2 inc's, both rooted - one stock, one running Myn's release 3 w/Ziggy kernel. Both have the same problem. Wifi will actually stay up for a while and the connected to my laptop. Then, wifi will actually drop and not be detected by wifi-analyzer while on the serving inc tether willstill show active.
Running Wifi-tether pre13 but this is an issue whether running wifi-tether or 3g hotspot.
Possibly an earlier version of wifi-tether would work? Can someone who is not experiencing this issue post the versions of their wifi related apps?

Having same problem with brothers phone. I'm never around when it drops but this is exactly what he describes too. I just put pre 13 and changed to channel 1 haven't had him complain yet but we will see
Mine however with same setup works fine... totally confused
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I just updated to pre13 and have tried several different channels with no luck. I noticed earlier that when I have been on it for a while it will slowly stop loading sites.
By this I mean that Engadget could continue to refresh while hulu or xda will not load. Eventually Engadget will stop loading.

I my stock dinc back to wifi tether 2.0.5-pre7 this morning and so far so good... will do some more testing tonight and report back later with an edit.
edit: Apparently pre7 release has an issue with channel selection, no matter what you select you end up on 6 (with all of the other default users out there), running pre8 now.
When you tether, does it say 1x at the top?
tether working fine
This is really one of the main reasons I rooted-
stock 2.2
wireless tether 2.0.2
I seem to surf without interuption endlessly.
speed test on average is about.5Mbps up and down
It does it at 3g and 1x

I get the same issue while running both sky-raider and now on virtuous. I believe it prob has to do with the 2.15 radio cuz I never had this issues with 2.05 or stock 2.1 android
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Same here...after surfing a while on the laptop it will quit loading pages.
The only way I can get around it is to disable the "wireless network connection"
then re-enable and it will work for another 10 minutes or so before having
to repeat the same action.
I have never been able to get wifi tether to work. I tried numerous versions of wifi tether, tried changing WEP, WPA, Open, channels, etc. I could connect the computer to the phone, but could never get internet access.
I finally gave up and just use 3g Hotspot, which works perfect.
I never had the 2.05 radio, so I don't know if it was introduced in 2.15
Man am I glad I am not the only one with the issue.

Okay so now we have established that there is a wifi tethering issue. Any dev wanna help us out on solving this or anyone with any ideas?

I have the same issue... any help is greatly appreciated!
I'm currently using stock 2.2 w/Nov update, radio 2.15.00.07.28 & 2.05-pre13 but am having no problem keeping two laptops connected. Rather my issue is one mentioned a few posts up, the speed is sadly lacing compared to what others have posted elsewhere on the site.
Would post screens but have to be more active and post a few more.

Wifi issue

Hey everyone,
I am having an issue where when I try to connect to my wifi, it will connect for a second then disconnect right after. My router says phone is connected.
I have not changed anything recently. I an running cm7 rc1
Any help is appreciated

Maybe try a new kernel. I know when I use some kernels I wont get 4g or GPS or wifi. You can get kernel manager from the market for free. It makes testing new ones really easy.

If its been working before, have you tried to power cycle the wifi router.. I know mine sometimes gets a hiccup and refuses to issue new leases..... just a thought.

True. If the router says its connected but not sending data it sounds like the router not the phone. My crappy router does that a lot. I apologize for jumping to conclusions before thinking lol.

I didn't really think about that. I will try that as soon as I get home and see what happens.

Im on synergy - nightly rom by virus 08/12 and I just recently upgraded my router to be able to handle N wireless, I have been able to connect the other devices in my house successfully expect my phone, my phone sees my router and it prompts me to type in the wpa 2 psk key, I put the key in, it says connecting and then it never connects, would just powe cycling the router fix this or is there something else I should do?

If you have the stock kernel, wifi is disabled by default, though I thought most if the custom roms were hex edited to work.. Perhaps refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158629
If that doesn't work try just wpa.and not else, also check if you are using aes or tkip encryption, I remember reading somewhere that it might make a difference which one you pick, but can't remember now... Hope this helps
I just flashed lithid cm's FREEDOM for the synergy-kingdom nightlies v 0.7.6?
Hopefully this works if not i'll try your suggestion of flashing the wireless N fix, the kernel says it supports wireless N so you might be right it might have something to do with the type of encryption the router has for the actual connection, thing is my POS verizon router will not let me switch to regular WPA or WEP for the wireless N connection

[Q] wifi troubles with Syndicate Frozen ROM

Hi all--
trying to make 10 posts so I can earn the right to post on the actual Syndicate ROM Frozen thread.
I've been enjoying this ROM on my Epic 4G quite a lot but it has some oddities when dealing with certain wireless access points. it doesn't seem to be limited to a particular type or encryption type. In my house it can connect fine to a wap running WPA2, and can't connect at all to an older one running WPA. In fact, it doesn't even remember the password I enter for that wap; it's as though I never entered it and tried to save it. But at work it connects fine to a wap running 'n'
Has anyone else had wifi problems with this ROM, particular with b/g waps? This phone was stock on EC05, Froyo 2.2.1 right from Sprint and now I'm running EC05 again. It was able to connect fine to the wap in question before the Syndicate install. anyone have some ideas on how to troubleshoot this? thanks!
-matt
I had wifi problems before but that was with the epic on general
All you have to do is factory reset your router

I have had wifi issues similar to this as well. I don't know if its related to sfr or not, though that is what I am running.
My epic will show that it is connected. But it is really not. This seems to be true on both wifi and 4g. I have even "connected" to encrypted wifi networks using bogus passwords. It shows that the connection is successful, though I am not able to use any data related items. No connection.

"Duh" to put it mildly
wow and i thought i had it bad; you guys have some real odd experiences there!
but slap me with a wet fish: i figured out the problem with accessing my home wap: trailing space was appended on the password cut and paste. <facepalm> that's what i get for being paranoid and using a 22 character random password. time for passphrases instead.
meanwhile, i still have trouble at work with a netgear-hd wap that is running n and without a hidden ssid. the phone can't see it. but it can see other 'n' waps in the area (i can see them with my macbook and know their 'flavor'). i'll do some more testing when i have time with that.
meanwhile, i apologize for raising a flag on an issue that is totally PEBKAC.. and i'll keep that "K" in there since our phones have the physical keyboard
oh i meant to ask... what modem version are you guys on? I am using EC05 (didnt have to futz with it since phone came stock with that installed)

PL3 WiFi Problems

My sister and I both have galaxy S6's but hers is stock and mine is running biggdaddyrom. I was assuming I was having WiFi problems due to the kernel I was using so I switched kernels, and even full wiped and reflashed the rom and still have problems. No data would come through while on WiFi, so I have to switch to 4g so I could use the Internet. All apps do this so I started assuming it was the update. Then My sister told me she has WiFi problems too and then I figured its not the rom or the kernels but it's the update. Does anyone have similar problems too or knows how to fix this?
I am running PL3 and the Biggdaddy ROM. No WiFi problems at all. What problem do you have and are you experiencing it with just one router? Like only at home? Or in multiple locations?

So turns out it wasnt just my home router. Sorry I'm responding late but I wanted to find out what was going on. There's this app on sprint devices called secure Wi-Fi. And I turned it off cause it "protects data on WiFi" when it just cuts it off.. Its weird cause it works on any WiFi that your on. It could be a public or secured. But anyone's once I turned it off everything went back to normal. I'll post the link if you wanna try it yourself.
