I'd appreciate any help.
I'm trying to adb push launcher2.apk to system/app.
So to start, of course I put the app in the android sdk tools folder.
Then I entered:
Code:
adb remount
adb push Launcher2.apk /system/app/
But it's giving me an: ": Out of Memory" error. Kind of tired and I'm sure I'm overlooking a step.
Please help me with what I've missed.
if you have Astro file manager all you need to do is copy the .apk anywhere on the SD card from your computer > disconnect from computer > open Astro > locate the file > touch/click it and it will ask if you want to open app manager... you can install from there
Try booting into the recovery and go into the partitions menu. Mount system and try it again while in the recovery mode.

Yeah the reason it didn't work from within android is because our phones are by default s-on, which means /system and recovery are nand-locked, or write protected/read only. Only recovery and hboot have write access I believe.

So i was just on youtube and saw the vanilla lockscreen on dc. How can I get it?
Sorry for bothering you guys, but I can't seem to find it.
I can't link to the vid since I'm a new member but just search this on youtube and you'll find it:

Dconfig comes built into the DC rom - if you are using the latest DC rom, just open the app drawer and look for dconfig.
hmm, that didn't work, i might be doing something wrong, thanks though
You need to remove HtcLockScreen.apk from /system/app on the phone
or use Dconfig (included with damagecontrol roms..look in your app tray) and goto the banned apps and ban htclockscreen.
I had problems banning the HtcLockScreen too, & had to manually do it.
Using Android Terminal Emulator ( & after flashing the proper zip file) i ran:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblk3 /system
cd /system/app
mv HtcLockScreen.apk /dcbanned
Click to collapse
& then rebooted, & got the Vanilla Lock Screen.
[[ In another thread some other users had other mount commands ( someone told me the "yaffs2" part was not required ) but that command worked for me so that's why i posted it as-is. ]]

I banned htc lockscreen and it came up all messed up, if i want to unlock my screen i have to slide up, not across. i downloaded the vanilla theme but when press it to update it shows "No MD5 file according to the update was found" and if i hit apply it reboots and goes to a screen with a box and arrow for a brief moment and then it shows a exclamation mark and the android guy. it doesn't do anything after that please help.
That's the default Recovery. Do you have Clockwork Recovery installed? If so, DamageControl doesn'y work well with that. You can either replace it with Amon's Recovery or instead of applying the Theme after download, restart into Recovery manually, & flash it that way.
thank you very much. yes i did have clockword mod recovery but i managed to flash the image manually

Now does anyone know what widget is that he is using in the video that has the android dude on the top right corner and where I can get it?
My phone is rooted, Super User is running for ROM manager. I get an error every time i click "Flash ClockwordMod Recovery" HTC G2 is clicked, then i get the error "An error occured while flashing your recovery"
Help please, Im rooted and SU is running fine. I also have busybox.. not that it has anything to do with it. I just want to install a custom rom. thanks
i am having the exact same problem as well. could it be a problem with the server side?
Could be the download.
You could always use the manual method.
I all ready have CWM 3.0.0.5 installed i've just gone in to rom manager and tried to flash and older recovery and I'm getting the same error. There is a manual method, trying to find it now and will post here when I do

Same issue, if someone can post the latest recovery file. It lives somewhere in the clockworkmod directory on the sd card. If you can also tell us what the directory is, we should be able to place the recovery in the same directory. That way rom manager will not try to download. thanks.
OK download recovery image from here http://mrcellphoneunlocker.com/recovery.img you will need to do this from your pc not your phone then transfer to your sdcard don't put in a file though and rename to recovery.img
I then open termianl emulator and type in
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
I don't think this version of CWM is up todays though

Thanks, but to get latest recovery image, can you do as I suggest and get the recovery image from the clockword mod directory on the sd card? If can also tell us what the full directory path is, we can 'trick' rom manager into not needing to download. Thanks.

What is it and why am I getting this prompt? I'm rooted with 2.3.4
Obviously I shouldn't accept this update but does anyone know what this is?

Hi. I am new.
I just installed the ROM 2.3.4 last night that was posted in the xda forum(upgraded manually from 2.2 on a Unrevoked rooted Dinc).
I installed the 4.06 ROM and I am reading the official was 4.08...
Do I need another upgrade? Or is this 'the' upgrade that is for root users?
Not trying to steal your post ugxvibe. both of our questions might have similar answers.
if you update will you lose root control? What about all the apps? I'm most concerned about not being able to tether...
Just flash wildstangs 4.08.605.2 ota rom. It is the newest ota update, but already rooted.
how do I do that? Through rom manager?
Is there a way to stop the update reminder from popping up without actually installing it? I'm afraid I might mess up my phone and don't want to risk losing everything g on it.
Guys, to stop the prompt from appearing just press install and it will try to reboot but will just error and u will never see it again trust me .

Yes thru rom manager.
You can dissable the notifications by editing your /system/build.prop file. Look for:
ro.config.htc.nocheckin = 0
and change the 0 to a 1. If you dont see that line add it somewhere in the file.
I went to make the nocheckin = 1 modification, but I already had it, and I'm still getting the update notifications. Not even sure how it got there. All I've done is root with Unrevoked, maybe that does the edit?

It should have worked, you may need to clear the cache partition. Or there is another method go to /etc/security and rename otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak
Like what was said above...
If you have Clockwork or some other custom recovery, if you just allow it to update when prompted, it will not install and will cause no other problems. You must have the stock recovery in order for the update to install.
It CANNOT install if you don't have the stock recovery.
But, I would also go into the /cache directory and find the update file and zap it (It will be obvious). I just use ADB and "rm" it from my PC. You could use root explorer or something. Otherwise you will have a big update file just sitting there and hogging space.

im rooted n using the clockworld mod for roms, I attempted to run the 4.08 update from User wildstang following the instructions but after installing the update n rebooting it just sits at "Dorid incredible" white screen and never boots. I may be doing something wrong here, can someone break it down for me? suggestions?
NOTE: I use CWMR 5X. Some wipe options below are not included in earlier recovery versions. Still wipe what is available the best you can.
1. Put the Rom on the root of your SD Card
2. Compare MD5 Sum
Windows: MD5 Calculator
LINUX: Open Terminal and type: md5sum [path to the rom on your sd card]
Mac: Open a terminal and type: md5 [path to the rom on your sd card]
3. Reboot to Recovery
4. Wipe these:
Main Screen:
wipe data/factory reset - x2
wipe cache partition - x2
Advanced:
Wipe Dalvik Cache - x3
Wipe Battery Stats - optional
Mounts and Storage:
Format-
/boot - x2
/system - x2
/datadata - x2
/data - x2
/cache - x2
5. Install Rom from SD Card by going back and selecting install from SD card.
6. Reboot and enjoy!
followed each step to the letter but still wont boot : /
Ok i changed nothing in the method of installing the rom and for whatever reason it worked!! 4.08 now phone is 10X faster and im loving it. Only issue i see now is i cannot get back into clockworld mod! why is that? i hold down power and vol down for a long time and when release it just starts the boot sequence any suggestions?

I had the same problem, but after two times running the install its still getting the hang. Hopefully I'll get better luck on try #3.
Did you figure out what caused the temporary issue?

OK I've found the file you're talking about and it doesn't have that line in it so I need to add it. I can't easily get access to a computer right now to run the command line on my phone so i have been trying to use the terminal emulator instead. It says I doesn't have a text editor...is there a way to edit via the emulator? Do you wkno which commands to use?
Thanks again
Yep, still having a minor issue with this. I have added the line suggested and I have cleared my cache yet I still get periodic prompts to install the update. I'm not really keen on doing so. Can anyone else suggest a way to stop the (weekly) prompts?
Thanks
Hello,
I was trying to edit my note 3 settings.db file to add the MobileData toggle at the notification panel.
After I edited the file, I rebooted the phone and Now I am stucked at the Tmobile 4G lte screen.
I have saved the original settings.db file so I can replace the modified one but the problem is that now that the phone doesn't turn on I can't replace it.
Is there anyway to fix this without installing everything from zero again???
Thank You
P.s
I tried to boot in safe mode but the phone doesn't boot even like this.
I tried to wipe cache, but nothing changed
As for the recovery mode, I can boot there
Boot to recovery and use adb console from your pc to swap the files. Learn some Linux command line commands if you don't know how. Primarily you will use cp target.file destination . file. Make a backup if you want via mv.

Any help will be very appreciated as I never worked with Linux.
My original files are located at Downloads folder of my device.
and the files that I changed are located at /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/
What command should I use to copy settings.db from downloads to the databases location
Thnx again for your reply

I am trying something like this:
adb push /sdcard/downloads/settings.db sdcard/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/
But I am getting error:closed
Maybe I am entering the paths on the wrong way

Another question, as I am not managing to over pass this error close message from adb.
If I install 4.4.2 again from download mode will I lose my settings, applications and everything else that I have installed before???
Odin doesn't wipe anything, but the re install would overwrite much of your personalizations. Boot into recovery, do a nandroid backup, then boot into download and Odin and restore. When you're up again, download nandroid manager from play store and select what you want to restore from your nandroid backup you made. Be sure to save it in a persistent partition, external SD if possible.

Hello guys, I need your help with the Gnex.
My friend gave me the phone hoping that I can do something. It stucks on nexus logo while booting. USB debugging is turned off, cwm or twrp is not installed. All I can is to enter Android system recovery with the following options: apply update from adb; apply update from usb drive; wipe data factory reset; wipe cache partition.
I've tried wiping cache partition but is doesn't help. Please advice whether wiping data/factory reset will delete the data from internal SD card - I am afraid to lose the photos.
Please advice what should I do to extract data (photos) in my situation?
Thanks in advance to everyone.

before using device too much, quick go to galaxy nexus general section here, and find thread "internal data recovery, yes we can"
you might be able to recover deleted photos.
the way it works when you delete things, is it just tells os that the space isnt being used, so the actual data might still be there and some may still be recoverable.
it is quite a process though. good luck

Thank you for your help. I've followed to step 6, but unfortunalely, RAW file is 0 b after creation. I've tried different numbers in this name mmcblk0p12.raw - but with no effect.. Tried to reinstall cygwin, used NetCat file insted of NC - all the same.
Maybe anyone faced this problem with 0 b size of the RAW file? Maybe it's because I have less than 15 Gb of free space on my disk C?
Would be grateful for your advices.

I'd like to try explaining this a little better. Basically when using a program from the command prompt in any OS the OS needs to know where the program is (this is not just for command prompt, but I digress). There are a few ways of telling the OS where the program you want to use is located.
For example, lets say you have ADB in the folder "android_stuff" on your E drive.
Option 1: Change Directory to the folder, IE: "cd android_stuff"
Option 2: Provide the "full path name" of the program, "e:\android_stuff\adb"
Option 3: Add the folder location to the system "path"
Options 1 and 2 are fairly easy and straightforward, whereas Option 3 can be done in a few ways.
My suggestion is to go with Option 1, its the easiest and all you would have to do is put all of the files you will be using into a single folder.
