Why would I be getting a system update available message with a Telus rooted Desire running Leedroid 2.1 (froyo). What will this update do other than what it says:
update: android OS update patch
enhanced multi inbox gmail support
improved RUS keyboard layout
size is 25.06 MB

the update wont do anything as you can install ota updates on a rooted desire with a custom recovery ..... the reason you are getting it is, leedroid is based on the official froyo rom, so i assume what ever update checker comes with that rom hasnt been removed
So should I be applying it or will I regret it?

the update will just fail if you have a custom recovery, but you can try

I'm running (at the moment) a copy of Pinky's ROM on a rooted Desire. So I was quite surprised when I got notified this update was available for download:
ota_bravo_htc_eu_2.10.405.2-2.09.405.8_release567cypyi0feo4th5.zip 25MB
Anyone know anything about it? And no, I wasn't stupid enough to download and install an unknown update from HTC onto a rooted and non-standard Desire. The Least that would likely happen is having to reinstall my OS; the worst is a locked and bricked unusable device.
It's too small for a new version of the official HTC set up - but it might be a substantial update...
So, anyone else got this? Know anything about it? Too new for google...
- Update : Android OS update patch
- Enhanced multi inbox Gmail support
- Improved RUS keyboard layout
It can't be applied to a custom ROM, it's been said a number of times
Hi,
I am wondering why the Adobe Flash and Gmail 2.3 updates are taking up so much space (12 and 3 MB respectively) - as if the previous versions (those that came with the HTC 2.2 OTA update) actually arn't uninstalled - its not like there too much room for Apps on this phone. Is there a way to fix this? (apart from just ignoring the updates, which Im doing at the moment)....
Is your phone rooted?
if not, then root your phone & get the updated ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997

Playing around with my Orange HTC Desire, it's been updated to Froyo 2.2.
I've just noticed a new System update 2.17.61.3 is available. Is this a lesser version than 2.2, if so what are HTC playing at. and can someone explain what the update does please.
What do you mean 'lesser'? It's Orange's FroYo update, there's nothing 'lesser' about it other than the build number
If you're rooted you won't be able to flash it anyway

I already had 2.2 and I got the upgrade today. So it's not just Froyo - it presumably adds/fixes something.
Didnt it have any change-log when you were about to update it? Usually a window appears telling you what are the fixes etc.. Maybe the Orange website has it somewhere? Mind cheking it out?
You don't get changelogs with ROM updates. Orange did just release a bug fix so it's likely to be that. Just get it...
Still don't see it as a 'lesser' update - surely a bug fix is a good thing? What version are you on at present?

As far as i know the latest OTA update from HTC did have a changelog.. Anyway.. Can we get a change log from anyone? Does it have an updated radio?
Sent from my, reborn in HD, Vanilla Desire.
The Orange update (2.17.61.4) is less than 5MB in size so doubt it, the 2.17.61.3 had a radio update but it's just the .27 already on other RUUs
I am running Wildstang's GB OTA from August (4.06.605.3) with a few minor problems, and I am rooted. This morning I received an update from Verizon called OTA_Incredible_C_Gingerbread_S_Verizon_WWE_4.08.605.2-4.06.60503_release_222219.zip and it is 8.58 MB. I did not receive any other OTA from Verizon.Checking the forum I see that Wildstang posted another ROM today called wildstang83_inc_ota_4.08.605.2.zip. What I would like to know is does this latest Rom from Wildstang include this small OTA I received from Verizon this morning, and what exactly is this update, and do I need it! Will this small update unroot me? What a mess Verizon created...Thanks for any info

The release # is 4.08.x.x, you're running 4.06.x.x. I think it's fixes for the 4.06 version. PM Stang and ask him.
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
If you're rooted it won't install, need stock recovery. But its the latest ota upgrade rooted for us flashers.

Wildstang's latest includes the 4.08 OTA. As for if you need it or not, the following things are listed by Verizon:
# Improved Bluetooth functionality.
# Voice command issues resolved.
# Updated Hardware information with correct screen dimensions.
# Resolved issue with “Verizon” category in Android Market.
# Resolved issue with Location dialog pop-up after a restart.
# Resolved issue with SMS due to low memory.
# Exchange account syncing issue has been fixed when background data is fixed.
# Resolved issue with apps loaded on SD card not working or displaying.
# Configuration of Backup Assistant and Location Consent will now appear in the “Setup App”.
# GPS now defaults to “Off” after a hard reset.

Some of these are stupid build.prop mistakes from HTC's Evo release that all the ROMs here have already corrected (screen size, Sprint vs. Verizon) -- the lack of quality control on these is appalling, by the way. Others appear to be bug fixes that are not present in any of the ROMs based on the 4.06 OTA, so you may be better off with this update. Personally, I'm waiting for Jermaine to incorporate it into his Stock+ so I can get the quick settings, advanced reboot menu, and native screen capture.
Hi,
I recently rooted my desire HD and installed viper 4.0.4 sense 4.1 ... The main reason was to be able to get the latest app from play store ( google keep etc no longer supported on standard HTC software).
Anyway, I recently received a system update and when i try to install it fails with the message illegal_viper.zip. I would like to either install the update or remove the update notification from the top bar and live with what I've got.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks MW
I assume you mean ViperDHD 2.3.0?
OTA is evidently borked & this project is evidently dead. Translation is don't do the update and IMHO do whatever you can to prevent any OTA activity at all since it is dead.
