[Q] Newbie.. I want to root my epic 4g

Im getting my Xoom tablet next week and I cant get any type of free wifi tethering to work with this stock 2.2.2 rom from Sprint. My only option now is root this phone and load a custom ROM.
You guys are the experts.. which Rom or load is going to work best for me. I really only do the following:
- Touchdown (email/exchange)
- gmail
- GPS maps (I like the sprint one actually)
- tether USB rightnow with PDAnet
- pictures to facebook
- facebook
- read the news/web stuff

Lots of good ROMs out there. The first post on each one tells you the features and install instructions.

Developer/Wannabe-Developer Q & A section/Google plus group

Taking into account the fact that the Desire section does not have a subforum within the Development section for questions on Rom/Android development, and the fact that questions within the General section are generally ignored by most developers, I thought of a thread to maintain a database of devs/senior members wanting to learn Rom development/discuss dev questions..
You can add yourself to the list by specifying in the following format:
Google plus link (as a gplus.to link, not email addresses), Dev/Wannabe-dev/Experienced user/Enduser (in your own opinion)
If the dev adds you too to his/her group, you'll be able to ask questions, and get answers related to devlopment..In addition I will be maintaining a Huddle/Hangout on the basis of this list, with live chat.. Guys, use it efficiently..No flooding please!

You can even ask questions related to development on this section, but dont expect quick answers, especially dont think that I'll always be answering either!
Thread rules:
Research your question (search google and xda) before asking.
Only questions related to actual development will be entertained.

This is not for questions on issues related to a particular Rom. Ask those on the ROM's thread. If you dont have permissions to post it there, start your own Q/A thread

Fine..though not being able to discuss with a lot of others does rather defeat the purpose, doesnt it? Maybe you should have another gplus profile for the dev incarnation, like I do

I'm new to xda-dev, myself. I also had some questions/comments re: Albinoman's JBbeta3 ROM, and thought this _was_ the right place to discuss such. Since I know the dev forum is the wrong place (even though it happens there), and now I'm told this is the wrong place...could someone please point me to where the right place is?

Okay, thanks. (A quick glance through the thread titles on this "General" forum reveals plenty of questions, too, so maybe I'm not the only one who's unsure...)

The proper place to ask questions, would be in Albinomans thread. If you didnt want to post there, Q/A would be acceptable. However general is a better place to start a new thread than developement section

Known issue for all JB ROMs on the Inc, but not listed in the OP. Try to cross reference CM10's OP in the mean time.

2 Things are possible...
1st: You posting in right section.
2nd. Doing a bit of search and finding out you can mod your rom with UOT kitchen. So yes, go to uot and grab yourself some mods.

Also, bear in mind that while we do ask that users speak English on the XDA-Developer forums, the person you appear to be picking on is of a nationality that most likely speaks a language other than English, so he may not fully understand some English yet... Question to advanced developers

Is there a possibility to add the rotational animation effect to a SONY GingerBread rom?. I'm asking this because in CM 7 ROM, that is based on Gingerbread, this effect is present. I'm not sure if this feature is in Framework, but is there someone that could port that to a SONY GB rom?.
And another question: What about a multitasking GB rom?, on GB when you switch to another app, the last one closes, and if you back to last one used from the recent app list it opens from the begining.
Hope that advance people respond to this.

Sorry, I was on a rush. I corrected the meaning.

As far as I know it is not possible to add an rotation transition effect into GB. From what I remember reading back in the GB days, the animation is dealt within the lib files ( .so files) which can't be edited. I could be wrong, but this is what I read. There was a thread investigating this matter.

If so, how did Cm 7 developers managed to add it to CM7?, as far as I know, CM7 is based on GingerBread.

Hi,
Get the libsurfaceflinger.so and libsurfacefliger client from system/libs the CM7 ROM and put that in system/libs of your desired ROM. If you need more help ask away. Let me research about the multitasking

I checked your post, and I noticed that the files you mentioned already was in CM7 rom, but not in a GB rom. Anyway, I'm sure that this is not as simple as adding those files to a GB rom. I'm sure that some harcoding must be done on a SONY GB ROM to acomplish that.
Hope that any other advanced dev see this thread and discuss it. :fingers-crossed:

Sorry, Im not a developer, and so, I cannot coock a rom adding the files mentioned. Anyway, Weeo answer was the most interesting, I'm giving that to some developers and see if the could try to do something.

what weeo is right bcz an (.so) file cant be edited after its compiled ....so CM rom are built from source where .so files can be edited before compiling...so thats why CM7 have those animations....
its not possible to add that in stock roms...
i told my point of view.......if iam wrong plz correct me..

mm, seems that the door is still open
I personally think that finally it's not possible... if so, the old GB developers would implemented that already.
I'm wondering is there existed some SONY X10 coocked rom with that feature.

i was looking into this a while back and someone seems to have managed it on samsung S2 2.3.6
