My pictures vanished.... - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using ES Explorer to move my pictures from the Phone memory to my SD card. I chose "Edit>move" then went to SD and it "Edit>Paste" and it flashed really quick but never showed a progress bar or anything. Now my pictures are magically gone... Any way to recover? (not a huge deal just thought it was weird)

angry birds missing after reboot

Hi ,
I noticed a strange behavoir. every reboot results in deleting my angry bird shortcut from the desk. But the app ist still there in the apps list (menue) and can dropped again in the desk. It lasts here until the next reboot. This seems to be also happen for a game called "Scooter" or so. even after Kernel patch K7-200 and full wipe this still happens. also reinstall angry birds did not help. At the moment I run JFS lagfix and all tweaks without "misc" on, but think this happened before too.
any ideas?
Was happening to me too. I think because it installs itself to the sd card. Lately the whole program doesn't go just the icon and Im left with the monitor and cog image.

Any apps that's installed on SD Card won't stay as shortcut in homescreen after reboot. So need to Move App to Phone.
Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->"On SD Card" tab
select your app... then "Move to Phone" button.
yes it was installed on the SD card. moved it to internal MEM and the icon did not disapear after reboot.
Thanks a lot for the hint
Seems rather stupid to me, most people will just use the one SD card so why code that? I think this needs to be addressed pronto

[Q] "Missing" SD card

I've been noticing lately that my external SD card randomly goes "missing" on my phone. I've noticed this on rooted stock and now on my current ROM, so I'm not sure it's ROM-dependent. I usually notice when I stop hearing my text notification sound (which is stored on there), and app icons in the launcher turn to the Android unknown icon. If I check the Storage settings it tells me there's no card present. Once I reboot it reappears and everything goes back to normal, beyond me needing to manually set my notification sound back.
Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Ideas on a cause/fix?
I was having the same problem until I backed up all photos and important files to my PC then formated my card. Restored my pics and a few music albums and hasn't happened since. Hope this helps you

I was wondering if it might be card-related. Backing up a 32GB card takes a while, but I guess your route is a relatively easy starting point.
Well, I reformatted the card and put all my data back on it a couple of days ago and the problem happened again today. Any more thoughts?

Also had this problem and it ended up being a bad data file on my SD card can't remember what it was because this happened to me several weeks ago. It could also be a problem with the card or the SD alot.

[Q] Pics Gone...

Hello,
I was moving some stuff around from SD card to external SD card on computer, and something happened it froze and next thing I noticed I lost some pictures, I went to the gallery appication and some pics were there, others though were just grey screen, so I deleted the greyed ones, but the ones I keep now when I click on them it's just grey, when I go back, they're there being shown normally, just when I try to enlarge them they're grey. Also videos say they "Cannot be played". What's happening? Thanks for the help.

[Q] apps on sd card = icon issue?

Moved a few apps to the SD card and am having icon issues with the apps on the SD card. Sometimes they show up like they are supposed to, but, more often than not I get a generic grayed out icon of an SD card. Still shows the right name of the app and apps seem to operate fine, just annoying and looks bad. Anyone else experience this? I'm running 100% stock.
Thanks

Yes I have that issue too. At first it just stayed like that indefinitely, but lately all the icons re-appear within a minute or so after booting up my Note. Not sure what happenned to cause the icons to now re-appear after a short wait. Anyone else have this problem, or better yet, an explanation or fix? I'm on CivZ 3.4 rom with his 2.0 kernel.
This is happening to me too every now and then. Random times to random apps that are on the sd card

i found this issue this morning, i was shock all of my shortcut not able to work and the icon is Grey.
but, after a few minutes it back to normal again, but when i tried reboot..it'll happen again and you must wait a few minutes until the icon back (for the function, i found LINE and Line I Love Coffee didn't work first time after ON or Reboot, not trying another program)
what about change the launcher? it'll fix the issue?
I just deleted the icons from the home page and brought it back onto the home screen.

ok not sure if this helps but here goes... I have this issue too, but all the grey icons re-appear as normal within 2 minutes after a reboot. When CivZ releases a new rom version I download and install it. When I boot with the new rom the icons are grey but DO NOT re-appear, ever.
I also have Foldermount installed by the way. After upgrading the rom from recovery and then booting, the first time I open Foldermount I get an error message about a faulty module. When Foldermount offers to fix it for me I click "yes" and reboot. Now the icons are still grey but DO re-appear within 2 minutes after each reboot.
Seen this behaviour consistently over the last few rom updates. For those whose grey icons always stay grey and never re-appear, it might be worth a shot to install Foldermount from the play store and run it. See if you get a message about a faulty module and if so, have the app fix it, then reboot and see if your icons re-appear after a few minutes. I might be way off here but maybe it will help us get closer to a real solution. If you try this please report your findings. Also, remember to make a nandroid backup first, just in case .

I'm having the exact same issue on my Galaxy S4 on the apps I moved to SD. Some appear normal and others are grey. I can still access all of them. Very annoying. On 4.2, the SD card would take a min to load and the apps would appear as normal. On 4.3 not all reappear.

I migrated from a DROID to a Note II just now to a Note 3 - So, I have run all of the Android Releases from Frodo to Jelly Bean and have KitKat on my tablet. My Note II and my Note 3 both have the same Jelly Bean 4.3 and are both waiting for Verizon to upgrade to KitKat 4.4.2
I never had any problems running my Apps on the SD Card on the Note II, Jelly Bean 4.3
The Note 3 changes my Icons to Grayed Out SD Icons. The programs work perfectly on the SD Card. To get my Icons back, I had to move the App back to the device, uninstall it and then reinstall it. (Yes, I did try moving a program back to the SD and get the same grayed out result. Moved back, un-installed, installed.)
This is obviously a common bug that has recently been introduced. My solution? Avoid SD at all cost until Android sorts this out.
Since my Note 3 has 32GB on Device, I was moving Apps to SD out of habit from the old device days. Hopefully there will be a fix for this before I run out of Device Memory.

You don't have to reinstall.
Remove from the screen and put it back if from Apps - that should do it.

Thanks! The work around is annoying, but I only have to do it once for each migrated App.
I can live with that.
Thanks
The problem is from using a slow SD card, and quickly going from lock screen after reboot.
I have a 633x SD card, and only found one app that does not like being moved to SD, and it was a paid game.

I've had a couple that seemed to respond badly to being moved to my SD Card. Put them back and all is well.
This happened on my original Samsung Note. Applications on the SD card would show generic grey icons for a few minutes after a reboot. I found that it also did this when I unmounted the SD card and then mounted it again. I attributed this to perhaps the OS taking a bit of time to read the files on the SD card. I found that the larger the card, the longer the icons stayed grey.
Note 8 app not showing the proper icon when moved to SD card

The problem of Apps not showing proper icons, when moved to SD card can be solved as follows:
I have a Note 8 with a Samsung 256 GB SD Card.
When I move eligible apps to the SD card, the icons show up as greyed out, with the annotation "SD".
Eligible Apps are those that, when using the App: "Move Apps" and selecting "MOVABLE", do NOT move the ones that show the warning that the app listens to the "boot completed" event, in which case it is adviseable to keep it in the phone memory. All other moveable apps can be moved.
To get the proper icon display again proceed as follows:
1. Go to Settings/Device maintenance/Storage
2. Click on the "3 dots" at the upper right of the screen
3. Select: Storage settings
4. Select "SD card", then click on "UNMOUNT"
5. Wait a few minutes until the SD card is unmounted. A message will show it to be finished.
6. When the SD card is unmounted: Select and click on: "Mount SD card" and wait a small time.
7. When the SD card is mounted again, all the apps should show up again in the app dra
wer(s), with their proper icons.
8. Copy missing icons on the Home screen from the corresponding app icons in the app drawer.
9. If it does not work properly, repeat steps: 1 through 8.
Good luck, for me this worked fine every time.....

Media not found / insupported file type

A few days ago while trying to review some images taken with the phone (with Sandisk 64Gb card inside) and stored on the external SD card, I could not pull up the images. On the Gallery screen where you see all the recent images, the image was present, but when I tap on the image, I get a black screen with the words "media not found". When I went back to the Gallery screen which showed the screen full of images, now the requested image has been replaced by a black and white clapboard (like they use in the movie industry before the camera starts to roll). This all happens when using "Gallery". If I use "Photos" (I think that's AT&T installed), sometimes the image will be there and other times over the past few days it won't. Sometimes when I get the Media not found message, I can still pull it up with "Photos".
I thought it was a OS issue with the camera, so I restored the phone using the built-in restore function (my Root is still there), but that did not seem to help.
I changed the setting for the camera so that it would store images to the internal memory instead of external, and that did seem to work for the few hours I had it set to that, although that was not a very long time to test whether the issue is SD card related. Today I switched it back over to storing on the external SD card, and at one point a video I took this morning worked, and then later when I wanted to view it again, I got a message that it was an "unsupported file type", and I could not pull up the video.
I unmounted the card, and have it sitting connected to my Windows 7 machine, and I'm doing an error check-autofix-scan and recover right now, although it is taking forever, and I do not see any progress whatsoever on the progress bar and it's been about 15 minutes so far. As an asides, I have about 30Gb of music also stored on this card and the phone can see it and play it with no issues.
Any thoughts? SD related, phone related, OS related? I don't remember doing anything or installing anything just prior to the issue starting....
Oh, and yes, I meant to type "unsupported" in the title

I ran the checkdisk and it did not seem to run at all. After a while it just shut off by itself. I'm currently running Norton Antivirus on the card just to see. And, I popped in a 32Gb card I had laying around, just to see, as a trouble-shooting method. strange thing though...when I open up Gallery, I can see all of the old photos taken long ago that were stored on the now-removed 64Gb card. If I click on them, they open up, although I don't know why as they were stored on a card that is no longer in the phone. I took some pics with the new card installed, and then when I went to review those images, they are there (but the "old" images from the larger card are now gone). I wonder if the phone stores old images that reside on external memory in a secondary folder internally on the phone, as they were there to view even though the card was removed...
