Go to into our settings and look for the application option and then find swype, click on it and choose the uninstall option.

Ya I've tried that but the option for uninstall and force close is greyed out and I can't select them.

To properly uninstall it you will need root explorer and/or titanium backup.
These are my steps and it worked and I was able to install the latest beta and all is well:
1. uninstall swype using titanium backup
2. delete libSwypeCore.so from /system/lib using rootexplorer mounted as r/w
3. reboot in to recovery and clear dalvik cache.
4. download swype installer and follow directions

The four steps worked for me, thanks.

[Q] SWYPE update on JPO

hi,
I found an update of swype. So I tried to install it on my SGS. So after that there were force closes.
After fixing that with restore the old version everything works well again. But I want the newest version of swype on it.
Maybe someone can tell me Beta-Login-Account via pm?
Would be very great.
Thanks
delete swype.apk from system or data (wherever it is), and delete libswypecore.so from system/lib/
(you can do this with root explorer or equivalent program, but u need root).
Once you've done that (they are very important steps!), reboot your phone and install whatever swype you want. Personally I use the latest cracked beta 2.10.?????? because it seems better than the default built in swype (2.6 or 2.7).
Google for it and you will find the apk.

updating swype on sprint lovers (or any pre-installed swype package for that matter)

Hello,
When I tried to update the swype to the latest version through beta.swype.com it said that it can't be installed on phones that have swype pre-installed. Is there a way to flash a new version of swype or some similar procedure?
Thanks!
You need to remove the pre-installed app via Titanium Backup or Root Explorer in order to install.
Great, thanks.
Few questions...
Is there a free version of root explorer that will do the job or is it worth paying?
Which files should I delete?
Finally, once deleted the swype installer available through beta will work?
Thanks!

You can use es file explorer, it has root access and can set permission [free]. Just delete the swype installer apk, and yes, te new installer will work.
Thanks for the help!
Just for completeness for any future visitors of this thread this is the procedure that I used compiled from other threads including this one...
1) download ES explorer and set to Root mode in settings and enable write access
2) Download swype installer per beta.swype.com instructions
3) Navigate w/ ES explorer to /system/app and delete swype.apk
4) Navigate to /system/lib and delete libswypecoreXXXX.so
5) Reboot
6) Run swype installer*
*The first time I ran this I got a "force close" of the swype input method. I uninstalled through the normal applications menu and rebooted. I tried to install again and had another error in the install. I rebooted. I used "all regions" and got a 'not enough space' warning. I went back and used "Americas" only and it installed and worked perfectly. No doubt others mileage will vary.
Thanks!

[Q] Removing stock Swype to install Beta Swype

Has anyone done this? I had the latest beta on my EVO and really liked the new dragon dictation. Anyone know if its possible to uninstall stock Swype completely and be able to install the Beta Swype? Thanks
Yes titanium backup will do it.
I've done it. You have to remove Swype.apk from /system/app and also remove libswypecore.so (I think that's the name) from /system/lib. You'll then be able to get the latest beta with the Swype Beta Installer. I'm using the latest version with the Dragon Dictation and it rocks.

Using Root Explorer:
1. Change your default input method to anything other than Swype.
2. Mount file system as R/W
3. Delete (or move/rename) \system\app\swype.apk
4. Delete (or move/rename) \data\dalvik-cache\[email protected]@[email protected] (might be .odex depending on your ROM)
5. Delete (or move/rename) \system\lib\libSwypeCore.so
6. Reboot
7. Download and Run the latest Swype Beta installer
If you get FC's after installing Swype BETA then remove Swype and the Swype Installer under Manage Apps, re-boot and install the BETA again. Seems to be some stuff left over from the old version that can cause this problem.

(thread is for razr, but exactly the same on our phones)
Wouldn't recommend titanium backup because Swype is so finicky with left over files

I'm stuck on this^ step....
Getting FC's, (I followed your directions perfectly) I went under Manage Apps and was able to remove the Installer, but I cannot remove Swype from Manage Apps, where do I remove it from? (I tried seeing if I could repeat steps 1-5 to remove it the same way again, but it wasn't there)
Could this be because I renamed each step in 1-5 to include stock at the end? (Ie I renamed libSwypeCore.so to libSwypeCorestock.so)
Thanks for the help!
EDIT:
Here's the fix:
Move or Delete each file in the steps, don't rename them, this caused FCs for me

Stock email app apk?

In my haste on my freshly rooted Nexus, I used Titanium Backup to uninstall some apps I don't use that I know I can get from the market if I ever wanted them, but I got a bit quick and uninstalled the stock Email app instead of freeze it (in case I ever wanted to use it). I did a factory reset but that doesn't bring it back so my question is, can anyone post the apk and tell me where to put it to get it back? I think the proper location is /system/app, is that correct? Thanks.
Yep, /system/app. There are two APKs with the Email icon: EmailGoogle.apk and ExchangeGoogle.apk. I've attached both as a ZIP.
Thanks a lot!
OK so I'm still a bit new to this. I used root explorer to mount /system/app as r/w and changed the permissions on the EmailGoogle.apk to rwxr--r--. I already have ExchangeGoogle.apk. I have enabled "allow non-market apps" in my settings but I'm still getting "application not installed" when i try to install it. What am I missing? I used the RootToolkit to unlock and root my Galaxy Nexus, but I do have some experience using adb from the past with rooting my Droid. Do I need adb to install this?

You won't be able to install it, just use a root explorer (such as ES File Explorer) to manually copy the file to /system/app, it should then show up as installed.
Ah ok. I did a reboot and it's still not in my app drawer.

I wasn't thinking; you'll need the ODEX as well. I've attached both files, just copy them both into /system/app and let me know if that works.
That did it! Excellent!

Accidentally deleted stock Task Manager!!

So i just installed the new BM 5.0 and i was deleting unwanted apps via Titanium Backup pro .. i was doing it so fast that i accidentally deleted task manager! now everytime i click on the widget "Active Application" it fore closes! i tried to look for the stock task manager in the app store but could not find it! is there a way to undo the delete without doing a nandroid restore?
Use the feature in Titanium that can pull apks from cwm backups. You should be able to fix it with that.

1) Open TB
2) Go to Backup/Restore
3) Option soft key
4) More
5) Extract from Nandroid backup
6) Pick Task Manager
I personally tried it once and it didn't work for me, worst comes to worst I'll upload you the JobManager.apk (I assume that's the one you're talking about? The Samsung task manager?). But I assume it works, otherwise they wouldn't include the feature.

To install it, you'll need a file explorer with root access (ES File Explorer, ROOT File Explorer, etc.). Then you'll have to move it to /system/app (to get to /system you'll have to go one level up from /sdcard to get to the root folder /). Make the permissions read "rw- r-- r--" (how you do that depends on what file explorer you use) and then reboot. Should fix the issue.

I'm guessing you're doing it from your phone? Minus has a quirk with mobile sites. Download it from your computer or change your user agent to desktop.

It'll be an option in root explorer along the lines of "root access". I don't know the exact process because I use ES. Play around in the settings of root explorer until you find it. By default it's disabled to prevent users from actually screwing with their system operating system without knowing what they're doing.
did not find anything under settings but there was a button that said Mount R/O or Mount R/W ... so i selected the file to move then i went to system/app thrn i clicked the mount button on the top and it worked! Thank u so much for ur help and fast responds! u really saved mr from alot of grief.

Yeah it's the same thing, you're just allowing the system position to be written to. No problem. Is your task manager working as usual now?

Not sure. Android has a native task manager other than the Samsung one so that might have anything to do with it

Was it working fine when you first installed it? Either way, there's always 5 generic steps you should always take first when trying to resolve an issue:
1) clear application data
2) reboot to recovery and clear cache
3) clear dalvik cache
4) fix permissions
5) reboot
See if that fixes your issues
