[Q] Flash embedded in articles suddenly not working - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Weird stuff. Flash player works fine, always has. But all of a sudden today, I was reading the match reports on the BBC website and realised that the Flash player wasn't loading. However, on the sport front page, I could click on the direct video links and they would play.
I thought this would be a Dolphin HD problem so I tried in the HTC Browser, same thing. I then uninstalled the latest Flash Update, tried it, same. Re-installed the update, tried it, same. Reset phone, tried it, same.
Can every HTC Sense 2.2 user in here see the embedded video through this link? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/9004741.stm
Anyone got any ideas as to what's going wrong? Anything else I could try?

No-one wants to try that link on their phone and tell me if the manager interviews are embedded with the text?
Pretty please....

On HTC 2.2 with root, no videos are showing up there for me (latest Flash player). Flash and JavaScript problems on the BBC site with this phone are common. So many BBC pages with embedded Flash simply crash my phone browser but I rarely if ever get such problems elsewhere.

Thanks for the response. It's actually crashing the HTC browser now, too.
As long as it's not just my phone/setup, I'm happy.

[Q] YouTube Uploads not working

All, I have dug and dug and seem to be the only one having this issue. I am running the 8/1 release with the Audio patch.
Issue: I cannot get anything to upload to YouTube. It attempts but never gets past 0% and then retries a few times before failing with a Network Error. I've got full Signal and can download, upload anything to anywhere else. I also connected to WiFi and am able to do same, upload, download to anything else... Can't load a video to YouTube.
I can watch YouTube videos from the YouTube App, it accesses my account and I cen see previous video.
Before this update I could upload to YouTube, that is the original Leaked FroYo.
My son took his first steps tonight and the HD quality camera videos will not send as messages so this is the best way I know how to share it with my family around the country. HELP!
Temporary Workaround: I mounted the phone as disk drive and pulled the video file, manually loading it from there. Old School method but it works. - I still need to know if anyone else is having the same issue and if not, WTF?

Can someone in the UK with Froyo+Sense test out TV Catchup for me?

Hey, could someone in the UK with a Froyo+Sense ROM point their browser to m.tvcatchup.com and test out a channel for me? I'm consistently getting a stupid icon obliterating my viewing, but no one in the official support forum has mentioned it.
Working fine for me on Desire + LeeDroid 1.8 ROM, watching the news on BBC 2 right now.
Works for me mate (FroYo).
Tried both HQ and LowQ.
Also tried both the Media and Streaming Media Player popup (when I click on a channel it prompts me what player to use).
I don't get that popup! How do you get that?
The icon is basically a white square, with a blue circle inside, and inside the circle is a yellow triangle, with a red tick or check mark at the base of the triangle. Any ideas? It's really annoying!
Here ya go, snaps using the Shoot Me app. You can see what I mean.

I think it is because I have the Gallery.apk installed.
Can't remember the official name but it is the one from the Nexus One.
I get this too. Brand new installed rom all i have done is put my music on and connected to exchange server.
Could this to the fact of having a 'weak signal' I have noticed that it says weak signal at the top when it starts, and this time that icon was at the top left out the way so could be a bug with the tv catchup system rather than anything to do with the phone. I tried connecting to our wireless at work but it can't make a connection to the server to stream the tv.
I actually cannot get my phone to connect to a feed! It pops up with "Unable to connect to server." every time.
Ditto. It worked with 2.1 and doesn't now (for me.) Mobile version I mean.
Struggled in high quality due to weak signal. Yet my ipod touch is fine in high quality. Hmmm strange.
what about changing browser settings so that it possbily sees the phone as an Iphone, ipod etc? surely that could possibly work
Okay I've just wiped my whole phone, all wipes, and install Froyo DeLite r0.5. Not installed any apps yet, it is completely fresh. And I'm still getting that stupid icon! Everytime I log into m.tvcatchup.com and choose any channel. And even when using wifi, connected my router three metres from me, which is attached to a fat 20meg Virgin broadband, and HTC Streaming Media still says 'weak signal'!!!
I no longer believe it is the ROM, something is fubar with TV Catchup. I've started this thread on the official forum:
http://forums.tvcatchup.com/showthread.php?9089-Weird-icon-now-on-every-channel!
Does anyone know of any other RTSP streams to test with? Just to see how HTC Streaming Media app fares with something else?
Hi guys, one thing is that if you are using Froyo you are limiting yourselves to a smaller selection of channels as Froyo supports full flash now. This means you will have the full selection of channels on TVC at http://www.tvcatchup.com/channels.html
Hey guys, as I just posted in the TV Catchup forum, the HTC Streaming Media App is borked. The icon does not appear in Eclair. HTC have cocked up, big time.
Okay, just flashed DJ Droid 1.2 and the icon has finally gone. This is dead weird!!! Why are some Roms giving me the icon, but some not?! Don't get it.
Also still poor signal quality however even on Wifi, but at least now I'm halfway there!
You guys are missing a big point
You don't need to use the mobile version. Download Adobe Flash Player 10.1 from the market and go visit the full tvcatchup site, works like a charm.

It does but it's less convenient and it's not optimised for mobile so you don't get all the full screen goodness.

Of course you get full screen and more importantly you get all the channels compared to 22 on the m.tvcatchup.com site, just save the channels page in your bookmarks, select a channel, loads, double tap, and you are in full screen.. couldn't be simpler !
And if you really want it easier just save the bookmark as an widget on your front screen.

[Q] Browser Crashing - Any solution?

I am aware that there are a number of threads on the subject of the browser crashing since the update to 2.2.
Mine is a bog standard t-mobile desire, unaltered in any way. As others, I have a particular problem with the BBC sports and news websites. Flash related, no doubt.
I am curious as to whether anyone has a) had a response from, HTC (or Adobe) on the subject and/or b) found a permanent solution.
Hard/soft resets make no difference.
As recommended on here, I have adjusted the plugin setting to "on demand" which at least enables me to browse the BBC sports site. I do find quite a few spaces however, I guess where video links should be (there is no option to play shown either).
I have also deleted all data in the Internet application which seemed to provide a temporary solution. For a while I could then browse the site properly, at least until the data built up again. However, this morning, even after clearing data the browser is crashing as I move from the main sport page to the football section (and Wolves aren't doing that badly!!!).
Thanks
Just to add a postscript.
I have been in touch with HTC. They suggested a factory reset. I pointed out that this hadn't worked but did it again. No change. As I soon as I could I went back to the BBC sports site, clicked on football, crash!!
HTC suggested returning my phone but I asked what was the point as this was a software rather than hardware issue.
They have now told me "We have tested this on our devices here in the support centre now and have the same issue. We have passed this to our developers to look at."
Watch this space, I guess. Meanwhile I am off to reload some apps!!

[Q] Upload and News Widget Problems

Hey there,
I own a HTC Desire HD running a stock 2.2 Froyo build with HTC Sense.
I have 2 problems.
1) My upload does not work properly. I cannot upload photos, videos or share anything via any app. For example, if I want to upload a photo to Facebook it would go to a random value Eg. 86% and then freeze there.
I also face the same problems in the web browser. I can browse fine but when it comes to posting in a forum, uploading or trying to enter values into a search engine, it fails 95% of the time.
This problem doesn't have to do with my connectivity as I connect using my home Wi-Fi network with full signal strength and uploading works fine on my laptops/desktop.
As far as I can remember, I have always had this problem.
Any fix for this?
2) My second problem is that the News widget by HTC has ceased to update and when I try to update it shows up as being updated even though the date shown is one week ago. I have tried to unsubscribe from feeds and resubscribe but it gave me an error message saying I could not unsubscribe. I'm guessing this might be related to Problem 1.
===============================
I really don't want to do a factory reset on my phone, so if there are easy fixes to both of those problems, it would be appreciated
Bump. (Sorry if this is against rules, tell me if it is.)
Please help me or at least give me a fair idea of what problems I could be facing. Thanks ^_^

[Q] Browser weird behaviour

Hi all,
Wondered if anyone else had this problem occur or knows what is causing it, browser was fine yesterday, but this morning when starting to type in the search box on google mobile search page the characters appear, then after about a second they get hidden with a dot, like I am entering a password or something like in the attached screenshot, and it's really starting to annoy me.
It's ok if I switch to one of the other available searches like image or places search, only happening on the web search page.
I've tried switching to a different keyboard, clearing all histories/caches etc, and it's still doing it, any ideas anyone ?
same problem here..it appeared after i flashed a new ROM (RCMix S v09)..not a big problem though, since theres a search button on the desire...but still wondering what causes this bug
use opera it is way better than embedded browser
Thanks Salahfathi, not after another browser though, don't use it enough to warrant installing another one, I find the original one perfect for my use, would just like to get rid of the little annoyance in the first post.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk Pro ...
Know bug, reported by other users, as well.
Follow the threads, they are working on a fix.
OK - the odd thing about this is that my wife started experiencing this on her unrooted, stock froyo wildfire yesterday. One minute normal, next minute like a password. My desire is not showing this behaviour.
Now that suggests to me something is happening that is not rom dependent?!!!
