Is there a way to get Android Commander to work,it works fine and displays files on the phone but says that the root is not on so /system folder cant be modified.There is a built in command terminal in Android Commander maybe there is a command that will grant root access,any help is appreciated.
On same note Root Explorer also cant modify files in /system folder.

Thanks. And that's not what I meant. I have my phone rooted and modded. I access the filesystem from Windows with an application (for Windows) called Android Commander. But in that app, I can't change certain files because I am not root. So again, how can I get root *permissions* on that application, Android Commander, for PC?

Please step off the pseudo-mod milk crate. Answer the guy's question or ignore it. If you really have a problem with the poster's actions, then simply use the report button. Kenny or another mod will review the issue.

Yeah a thread that's stickied at the top of one of the sub forums and its called One Click Root works on windows designed for windows and was easier than searching and digging for this thread lol.

Ok well it seems as though there are A LOT of people with this problem.... look in the faq in the android commander program... it has instructions for how to gain root access... seems even that way didn't work for most... there is a fix that involves unpacking the boot.img and editing some lines... google the problem and read around and I'm sure you will find something helpful... all the info I just put was found in 5 mins with 1 google search... still not home but when I get there I will look into this problem more...

I just wanted to say great first post...hopefully someone will find the way to root YOUR phone because according to the 100 or so other threads, if you would have SEARCHED FIRST nobody else has been able to get it but I have faith you might be the one. So please when you get the way to root will you please share it with the rest of us! But you might wanna check the first thread at the top of the Q and A forum I think the info u need is there. So when you figure root out please report back how you did it! Oh thanks again for one of the best first posts we have seen...

Why is anyone still working on anything before 4.0.3? If I knew the first thing about development I would have finished a working rom already even if I had to work until my fingers bled.
Hmmm.. might I remind you these guys are doing this stuff on their spare time... FREE OF CHARGE? If you wanna know how to develop, learn. Trial and error can be very useful tools, but this is kinda rude. I don't mean to be a **** here, but patience is a virtue. You will get your ice cream just as soon as the devs can actually work on it.

Obviously not. I do not run cm7 until it is official.(thanks to bubby for his efforts) Miui does not have 4g. I'm am currently working on porting ics to our phone as well as I am just learning going thru trail and error.

Do you feel better now? Do you run the current cm7 as your daily? I've tested it and it still has bugs at the moment? I live in a 4g area for one. Its my choice right. It my thread in the Q and A right? Its always someone here who has to make you seem like the bad guy which makes it impossible to voice your opinion about things without getting flamed.. hey, at least I'm learning to dev. and not just complaining.

I do NOT want an ics port. I want officially released ICS, and with gingerbread running so good on this phone, I'm in no hurry to get it, so samsprint can take their time. I'm more interested in getting official miui and cm7 ironed out. once those are official, it'll handle any software upgrades that come out after our phone is end of lifed

In my personal opinion, I hate this, I rather talk to all my flashers than have to go to another thread to talk to them. In my opinion, this is just what I believe. I was just making sure no devs get mad c: that's all.
Before you flash, make sure you download the rotation fix and have it ready to flash after the rom. Or just turn off auto rotation.

No, i believe it has to do with the script support needed to flash CM9, which often possesses a larger kernel than stock images.
Just wanted to say thanks to the guys who are working on this. Just got my GSII a few days ago and was dismayed to find there were no good touchwiz free options for me, and then just in time this cm9 port went up.
I can't use my camera for now, and I'm afraid to turn off my gps, but it's a small price to pay for you guys all putting so much work in to exactly the rom that I wanted. I'll be sticking with this rom and donating to keep development going. Thanks guys.

Someone posted a work-a-round in the Dev section of CM9 about this. Someone else confirmed it worked for them. They said when in non-touch CWR to unmount then remount the cache partition. Then flash the SuperWipe script, then flash the ROM. They created an issue for it here: http://code.google.com/p/hercskycm/issues/detail?id=20 I would head over to the DEV section and read what they posted about it before doing it though.
I think that's the route I'm going to take since I'm still a little unsure about using 'touch' just yet.

Touch has been working well for me, especially when flashing non gb roms. Perfect installs and no loops or problems

Which touch version are you using? I'm about ready to make the leap. I've just become so familiar with the standard recovery. I'm leaning towards the version you pay a couple bucks for through ROM Manager. Even though I've never used ROM Manager for anything. But I've heard it's okay to upgrade or flash your recovery through ROM Manager though?

This didn't work for me. Just kept looping through the boot logo. Maybe my phone doesn't like the rom

You can either flash the rom manager version or odin it. Thats the one I am using. Although a new version from team win just came out for my skyrocket and ill probably give that one a try.

Have you asked a mod to eliminate some of those threads that are waste and then update the 'Repo' in the Dev section? I'm new to the Nitro but not new to android root/ROM flashing so I knew to search before asking questions, but the 'noobies' just fire at will not thinking of using any sort of search function. #my2cents Thanks

Maybe you guys should put only the relevant guides that ACTUALLY WORK in the links.. derp a derp. I've been rooting for days figured this phone out in about an hour or so. But I have to be honest there are way to many methods and very few seem to be universal? If LG fans are used to this scattered root method forum posts go ahead and get comfortable, but it just brings me to realize I love my samsung's. Hacker friendly. I thought this nitro would be kinda chill with cm10.1 but every process to get to that point is a total *****. Once I get this phone figured out I want to make a coherent guide from start to finish how to get this thing to CM10.1

Please watch the language...
There are plenty that work. The issue with the Nitro is that with ICS, there is a new bootloader that is locked and prevents you from flashing custom ROMs such as CMx.x. Rooted with a locked bootloader is just pointless in my opinion. There are plenty of guides that can be done by even noob users. You just have to be patient and take the advice of the people that have actually been working with the device a lot more than you.

I found a better one by Hereric. Your guide is very incoherent, and certainly doesnt contain the easiest tools and methodology to obtain root, cwm, and flash a rom.

Never called you a noob. I don't care if you take my advice or not because honestly, I know for a fact that there are several people on this board that know tons more than I ever will. I'm just saying that maybe instead of trying a few poorly done or outdated guides and then ripping on the devs credibility, you should be patient and just ask a question in a couple of the threads you tried.
Your completely right. I am being a total ass. Ive been very frustrated. I thought this phone would be a breeze and it seems to be less than a breeze. After reading about how being on GB is beneficial because of the unlocked bootloader. Im even more frustrated. The phone came on GB.. I had read elsewhere there are more methods on ics... I was waaaaaaay wrong.
So sorry for getting crabby with you. I hope my effort to apologize is acknowledged. I dont want to be a forum jerk.

Just follow Hereric's method to the T and once back to GB you are free to flash any ROM you want to use.
Just sayin', the other methods of unbricking is not incoherent but you just have to take your time reading the steps and they all work the same.
I have followed his very closely about 10x.. it always just force quits the application that is supposed to right the firmware while it is pushing it to the device? So I can never complete the sequence any ideas?

Three possible solutions:
1) try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149211
2) Try on a win xp computer known issues for some people on win 7/8 (including myself)
3) If you have win 7 prof or ultimate: Virtual win xp mode.
The last two are 100% the first one I haven't had time to try yet. There is a fourth method that is a little complex so try the above three before I will suggest the fourth.

Go here from your computer: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/
It's a lengthy process getting it setup but once you do you will have a virtual win xp computer (requires a win xp install disc). Once that is done install LG drivers and the KDZ apps just like you did before following the guide and you will have zero problems. BTW did you try the guide in suggestion 1? Good luck.

I have searched and searched and searched. I'm asking the community for an honest opinion. I'm not looking for which phone is newest. I'm asking what you think has a better balance among development and the phone quality itself.

Don't get either. Wait till MWC in February and get a newer, better, 2013 phone. The One X is great. It should hold you over for at least another year.

Nexus phones usually always see the most development in general. That would rule out the one x. And when deciding between the galaxy nexus and the nexus 4, it really is a no-brainer because of the ridiculously low price of the nexus 4.
So if you don't depend entirely on LTE(I take it you don't since you even consider the nexus 4), I'd definitely go with that one or stand the one x for another year and get the next nexus instead. If you don't live in a country where you can order the nexus 4 from the play store, it will be priced much higher, but you can use certain postal services to forward the package from a us adress in order to get it at the lower price point.
