Gmail app and WiFi - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed something... at home I get low service like 1 or 2 bars so I use WiFi a lot to surf web or to use apps.. for gmail when I compose a email i noticed it will stay on sending status when I'm on WiFi.. but if I turn off WiFi n get back on 3g and compose and send its almost instant it sends.. I know able to receive emails just fine when I'm WiFi but sending is the issue is there a fix or a setting I'm over looking? Please help!
I thank you any input !

Solution for those who cant send MMS over wifi on ICS update

Ive seen a few threads about this, as well as several on the TMo boards and other boards about people not being able to send or receive MMS over wifi after the ICS update. I also had this issue and called TMo. I spoke to their 2nd level support, and the solution per Samsung is first send a picture to yourself via gmail (the gmail acct associated with your phone) while on wifi. After you receive it, you should be able to send and recieve MMS over wifi from there on out.
It worked for me, so I thought Id share with you. I cant speak for custom ROMS as Im on stock rooted.
edit: the symptoms I was having was I would send an MMS, and it would sit at sending. If I received an MMS, I got the notification of a new text with a download button. Hit that, and it sits at download. FYI I just checked my wifes SGS2 and she's on Darkside 2.7 and had the same issue. I perfomed the fix above, and now it works. So it appears this fixes the problem on GB as well.
Do you send the picture to yourself through a computer to gmail? Or using the phone to yourself?

Yup, nothing after a reboot either.
yeah, i just tried the same thing and nothing happened, however, mine won't even switch to 4g to send/receive mms
Damn sorry guys...apparently its the Samsung fix and it worked on mine and my wifes phone...

bummer. wish this would have worked for me.
Sorry after the reboot, it didn't switch to 4g anymore..
For people who have 4g turn on just turn off mobile data in settings then do it

So does it work for you
This worked for me after several attempts.
Attempt 1: enable wifi and wifi calling. Send email. Email did not send.
Attempt 2: enable wifi only. Send email. Did not resovle issue.
Attempt 3: enable wifi and wifi calling, disable data network. Send email. reboot. Test MMS. Works. Enable data network. Tes MMS again. Problem Fixed.

So just to make sure, do you send the email to your Gmail address through the messaging app or through the Gmail app? I would love to get my MMS working with the ICS update.
I have tried this several times, doesn't work for me. Any other suggestions?
It might be different for me as well because I am using Straight Talk (on tmobile network) but even if i enable WIFI Calling, it won't work and just shows error.

I got this to work. I repeated #3.
When sending the email, use the messaging app.

I have the same issue. For me at least the issue seems to be tied to GOSMS, i tried using HandcentSMS and it worked fine over wifi.

[Q] Can't text photos!

Been having this problem since the Jellybean OTA - If I attempt to text a photo to someone, either from a webpage or my gallery, it sticks on "sending" and never goes through. On one occassion, I just left it and about 8 hours later, it sent. I understand I can't do it on wifi, but even if I turn off wifi, delete, and send it again, it just sticks on sending. Having this problem with either Handscent or the stock texting app - both will do it.
Anyone know a fix to this?
Try updating your prl and profile. Also make sure you have 3g (data) turned on. And turn off auto-retrieve in message settings (this just helps with receiving mms messages - then you download the picture manually.)

WiFi and mobile data active at same time???

So I hate the stock touchwiz messages..I use textra and the new google messages app. Textra has a setting to send MMS/pictures over WiFi but are slow to send.
I've been trying the new google messenger and love it with the exception of sending MMS/pictures as my house has WiFi and it won't send over WiFi...
I had note 3 before and the WiFi would be connected but the mobile data would also stay active and I've noticed on the note 4 that when WiFi is on there is no mobile data icon...I have to turn WiFi off to send MMS/picture messages. Is there another way to do this without rooting??

Google messenger not sending mms with wifi on

H812 on Rogers,
I can't send mms using Google messenger whilst I'm connected to wifi. I can receive no problem however. In order to send I must turn wifi off. Bit of a pain...
Edit: works perfect using stock messaging app.
Anyone else notice this?
Note: I know I can't use wifi to send or receive. That's not an issue.
Some mms apps are not smart enough to switch to cell data to authenticate. See if there is a setting to send via cell

No such setting. Also, stock messaging app has no issues..

Cannot send sms with picture attachment if connected to wifi?

My moto z play is connected to tmobile's network. I'm using qksms as my sms app. Whenever I try to send a picture as an sms attachment, it just gets stuck sending and never finishes. If someone tries to send me a text with a picture attached, I never get the message. As soon as I disconnect from wifi or turn wifi off, I am able to send and receive sms picture message perfectly. Does anyone know how to fix this? I thought my apn was setup correctly. But maybe it isn't.
Edit: Apparently it is a problem with qksms. I switched to YATTA and it works perfectly now. Chomp and textra are also fine so it's just something wrong with QKsms.
Some carriers will only route MMS over the data connection. They can't authenticate via wifi. Most SMS apps are aware of this and are smart enough to force cell data even when you have a Wi-Fi connection.
