[Q] Press Menu to Unlock? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to be able to press menu to unlock the lockscreen on 2.1, but it seems to have been removed with 2.2. Is there a way to get it back?

Not without installing another app.
Look at WidgetLocker in the market. It does a lot of things including what some of the buttons do.

When I removed the HTClockscreen, or should I say uninstalled it, the menu to unlock worked. If you're rooted you can just use titanium backup to uninstall HTClockscreen.apk HTH.

I want HTC LOCK back!

SO I deleted the HTCLOCK.APK thinking I could just use pattern lock but I got the left to right slider came up now. I like the htc clock so it really borks the alarm.
Anyway I've tried flashing MYN rom twice but the lock I had doesnt come up' I would rather not wipe data as I cant grasp why I should have to. The rom should install the lock app back on right? I've extracted it from the rom and tried installing it that way. it fails.

Try going to the htc sense app, deleting data and restarting it or have someone on that rom pull the lockscreen apk. I'm on Fresh, so if i pulled it, im not sure it would work for you
Use root explorer or adb push to put it back in...note has to be in /system/app
Also, locker widget locker (paid app) will allow u to set whatever lock screen u want without them being installed...
Via EVO on XDA app...
Thanks for the replys. I went ahead and did a full on wipe and it fixed it. full wipes arent to bad now that google keeps the apps. As for the aftermarket locks, I've tried that one and lock 2.0 and they both are a little buggy and still dont silence the stock alarm clock.

[Q] How to remove stock apps

I found a guide around here before about how to remove system apps. Ive went through a couple of guides but cant seen to find it again. In the guide it had something along the lines of adb shell, the mounting the apps folder then removing them some how. Can anyone link me or know how to remove these apps such as friend stream. Thanks
under what circumstances are you trying to remove them??
i would advise a permroot, titanium backup and also about an hour, which apps do you want to remove?
Im fully rooted, s-off, recovery and all installed and i did remove the amazonmp3 app before but cant remember the command lines to do it
thanks
as far as ADB goes for me, im not too sure, unfortuantly,
i used the above method, and with that i removed all the bloatware i didnt want. i have S-Off , permroot and various other bits,
as you can see i cam from the X10i background and we didnt do a lot of custom roms and other bits there.
Thats ok, i tried using titanium backup to remove but didnt work for me so i was looking through these forums for the adb command line code, hopefully someone knows it lol
on titanium backup, you need to press the app you want to tremove for a while then itll bring up another menu, you need to do the recovery exploit uninstall, that will remove the app PERMANENTLY
give it a try youll see what i mean
SystemApp Remover is excellent, requires root.
what is root ?

Does it "brick" OTA updates like the TB method?

[Q] Titanium Backup, does it actually work?

I had a rooted Hero before this and now I have rooted Continuum...I've hit "Problems?" and downloaded the busybox update.......I select Force Remove App.....Titanium Backup says my phone will restart twice....but it only restarts once, and the program I'm trying to remove is still there. I get no error messages.
I had similar experiences on the Hero. What am I missing? I would really like to get rid of this extra crap Verizon put on my phone.

I will say this once, and only once. Do not uninstall bloatware.
If you do delete it, you will not be able to get any OTA updates, but yes it does work. You can ask around, there a few people the deleted it, and they were stuck on DJ20 for a while.
Rather than uninstalling bloatware, why not just freeze it with TiBu? It will have the same effect, but then, you just need to thaw all the bloat when an update is released, and then you can update, and just refreeze whatever is there that you don't want again.
I am an idiot. I finally realized what I've been doing wrong with TB. I was always long-pressing the programs in the backup/restore view. It brought up a window of options but never what I thought I should see. Quick tapping an item is what I apparently NEVER thought to do until now. What an imbecile!
By the way, the freezing suggestion is nice, but you have to pay for the app to do that.
Thanks to the dev work, I'll revert to my former method of backing the whole ROM up with CMR and flashing a new clean ROM.
thanks for the responses

[Q] Unable to unlock tablet

I did a factory reset and then restored my apps and system settings with Titanium backup. Now I cannot get past the lockscreen. I have set up a 4 digit code, but the tablet says it is wrong. I was fine until I did the restore with Titanium.
In HC after 4 wrong entries it gave you the option to reset the password using your gmail address. But in ICS I get no such option. I am stuck. How can I get past this to get back into the tablet? Do I have to do a complete reinstall and if so, how do I do that when I cannot unlock the tablet?

I installed the leaked ICS over HC 3.21. I updated the leaked version 2 times and ended up with the final leak, which appears to be the same as the official release. The bootloader is stock.
I rooted the tablet and backed up with Titanium backup. Everything was working, except it had some stutters when it would not respond for a few seconds.
When I did the factory reset it seemed file. But some apps were not reinstalled by the Google server backup and the WiFi settings were lost. So I restored the missing apps and system settings with Titanium backup. When I restarted the tablet after the restoration, I could not longer use my 4 digit code to unlock the tablet.
I can get into the recovery menu, but I cannot figure out how to choose the "wipe" option.
There is no option after trying the unlock code to enter my email address as there was for HC.
Let me know if you need some other information. Thanks for your help.

ok kool thanks for the info!
well i dont remember the stock recovery very much...but power button should still be select and vol buttons to navigate.
if you cannot wipe from recovery there is a key sequence to wipe data...
1) Place the rotation lock switch in the up position 2) Press and hold the Volume down button, which is located farthest from the rotation lock 3) With the Volume down button held, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume down button. 4) Once the tablet vibrates, switch the rotation lock on and off repeatedly while still holding the Volume down button. 5) Release the Volume down button and stop switching the rotation lock once the "Erasing Userdata..." message appears in the upper left corner of the screen 6) Once the factory reset has been completed your tablet will load to the Welcome screen.
if that still doesnt work...do what u did before and flash the update.zip from the sdcard...
just a word of advice...restoring apps is ok...and system data like wifi passwords...bluetooth pairings etc
but once u get into restoring apps WITH data.,bad things can happen. ive seen it myself and no longer restore any data...just apps and bluetooth pairings..
cheers man!

That's disappointing to hear. I thought that was the advantage of using Titanium backup compared to just installing the apps manually from the market. I will restore more selectively.

how to remove [home screen mode] from the settings ?

I got the stock XXDLJ1 on my device and I am very happy with it but i removed a lot of apps in titanium backup that i do not need and will never use like touchwiz home launcher cause i always use nova but how can i edit setting items and remove [homescreen mode] or [motion] from the setting menu ?
I would like to know this as well.
I've been searching but without any luck...
i very highly doubt ud be able to do that, why would you want to remove them anyways?
