[Q] Unable to unlock tablet - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I did a factory reset and then restored my apps and system settings with Titanium backup. Now I cannot get past the lockscreen. I have set up a 4 digit code, but the tablet says it is wrong. I was fine until I did the restore with Titanium.
In HC after 4 wrong entries it gave you the option to reset the password using your gmail address. But in ICS I get no such option. I am stuck. How can I get past this to get back into the tablet? Do I have to do a complete reinstall and if so, how do I do that when I cannot unlock the tablet?

I installed the leaked ICS over HC 3.21. I updated the leaked version 2 times and ended up with the final leak, which appears to be the same as the official release. The bootloader is stock.
I rooted the tablet and backed up with Titanium backup. Everything was working, except it had some stutters when it would not respond for a few seconds.
When I did the factory reset it seemed file. But some apps were not reinstalled by the Google server backup and the WiFi settings were lost. So I restored the missing apps and system settings with Titanium backup. When I restarted the tablet after the restoration, I could not longer use my 4 digit code to unlock the tablet.
I can get into the recovery menu, but I cannot figure out how to choose the "wipe" option.
There is no option after trying the unlock code to enter my email address as there was for HC.
Let me know if you need some other information. Thanks for your help.

ok kool thanks for the info!
well i dont remember the stock recovery very much...but power button should still be select and vol buttons to navigate.
if you cannot wipe from recovery there is a key sequence to wipe data...
1) Place the rotation lock switch in the up position 2) Press and hold the Volume down button, which is located farthest from the rotation lock 3) With the Volume down button held, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume down button. 4) Once the tablet vibrates, switch the rotation lock on and off repeatedly while still holding the Volume down button. 5) Release the Volume down button and stop switching the rotation lock once the "Erasing Userdata..." message appears in the upper left corner of the screen 6) Once the factory reset has been completed your tablet will load to the Welcome screen.
if that still doesnt work...do what u did before and flash the update.zip from the sdcard...
just a word of advice...restoring apps is ok...and system data like wifi passwords...bluetooth pairings etc
but once u get into restoring apps WITH data.,bad things can happen. ive seen it myself and no longer restore any data...just apps and bluetooth pairings..
cheers man!

That's disappointing to hear. I thought that was the advantage of using Titanium backup compared to just installing the apps manually from the market. I will restore more selectively.

Titanium Backup hanging up? (solved)

Installed newest stock GB rom from the dev section from 6/ 3/ 11. Did not flash radio's on same kernal thay came with Rom. S-off rooted clockwork recovery. Busybox is 1.17 have also trie 1.18 and 1.19. Uninstalled and reinstalled titanium backup. Question or issue is when freezing installing or installing any app it hangs on the message saying whatever ie. Teeter is being uninstalled etc... Just hangs at that screen cant back out or do anything at that point except bring up recent apps switch to one then get back to Home screen at that poimt i have to force close TB. It will show the action was performed but its just really odd.. Anyone else experience this or have a solution? Thanks for any advice
Update: when its hanging up pressing back menu or home does nothing long pressing home brings up recent apps still. However pressing the search key clears the notification box off the screen and lets me keep using app normally "shrug"
Had usb debugging unchecked problem solved ;-)

Questions on restoring the phone after a data wipe/factory reset (Titanium Backup)

Hi.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but it's almost always recommended and required to do a data wipe after a ROM updates. Everybody seems like this process is normal and not a hassle.
I use AOKP (installed M6 today) on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus (toro).
I use Titanium Backup to restore my phone to the state where I left as right before the ROM update flash.
There are, however, some problems I've encountered and I was wondering if anyone could help me.
1. Using "restore app + data" only restores the app and the data cannot be recovered. I need to manually select "restore app data only" and it for the most of the time works fine. Am I doing something wrong?
2. I have about 80 apps and it asks me to confirm every time it tries to restore apps. I need to click "Install" and "Done" to restore one app. This process takes an hour. Are there any way to disable this confirmation prompt?
3. During the restore process, on the confirmation prompt for installing an app, if I press "cancel" instead of "install" Titanium Backup does not know what to do and does not move onto the next app to restore. The restore process basically gets stuck there. Does anybody know the cause of this?
Is restoring process supposed to be this much of a hassle? How do you guys do yours? Please let me know!
Thank you in advance!

It takes forever but that's how I do it. Of course I don't have 80 apps. But there should be an option to restore all missing apps and data.
But besides that, you have to click install and done for every app.

That is... very unfortunate.
That's the option I use. It restores apps, but for some reason it NEVER restores data.
This is why I have to manually restore app data. It's pain in the ass.... Does it do to yours?

On mine it restores both. Then it says I should reboot and I do, and all my messages and stuff is back to before.
I kinda stopped using titanium ever since I sold my epic 4g lol. I only used it not to loose my progress on plants vs zombies.

I use nothing at all.
Pretty much Google automatically downloads my apps after every flash.
I start fresh on the data.
But as far as I know titanium is the best.

I use Titanium back up to restore apps and a few system settings. To do as many as you are doing use *batch* mode.
open Titanium>select Backup/restore tab>select the check mark (top right hand corner, between the search icon and the menu button icon. The check button maybe greyed out but is operational)
you can now select "Backup all user apps" by selecting the run button next to it. This will open a list of all user apps, make sure all the apps you want to backup are selected. Obviously deselect the ones you don't want > to run the batch operation select the green check icon in the top right hand corner.
Once backup completes go back and select "Back up all system data" and do the same.
10mins at most.
There is an option to "Backup all user apps + system data" that will make it a bit quicker.
I'm pretty sure you have to use the purchased version of Titanium Backup to do a batch restore without doing them one at a time. When you select restore apps, there's also an check box to restore data too, but I don't know if that's only in the purchased version.

Batch process is supported in the free version. From what I can assume the problem is with Android.
Every time Titanium Backup tries to restore an app by installing it, the phone asks if I want to really install it. I know this feature is part of Android, but having 80 apps this is a very painful process.
I was wondering if I can turn that prompt of at my own risk.

Batch is supported in the free version. But, if you get the paid version, that will negate all of the "install" and "done" prompts. It will install automatically, as soon as you activate the batch operation. As for why it's not able to restore data, I'm not sure.

Reverting back to stock Capacative Keys

I recently flashed this MOD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788780
Basically turns off your buttons (home, menu, back) and adds a onscreen Home/ MEnu / Back button
I found a way to get rid of it but i dont know how to re activate my capacative and home button, they wont function
does anyone have any idea how?
Lol same thing happened to me, I wiped cache/dalvik and reflashed my rom, all is well now.

Well, since you are a good android user, you made a nandroid before you flashed something to your device. All you need to do is restore the system from that nandroid you made.

Thats the thing this one time I did NOT make a nandroid..
I really like the setup i have with my NOVA Launcher and all the settings and what not, I would hate to have to redo everything, I mean I can backup my apps but rearranging everything would be a pain
I found a fix to make the buttons work again, but the HOME button still does not work, just the Menu and Back button

Nova doesn't have a backup settings feature? Seems most launchers do, Apex does for one.
Back up your Nova settings, back up call logs/SMS if you'd like, wipe + reflash, let Google install all of your apps, restore Nova backup, and you're nearly good to go. Shouldn't be too painful. I'm not sure which phone settings get backed up to Google and which don't. I know that wifi SSIDs and passwords do, which is handy.

[Q] android.process.acore has stopped

Using Titanium, I backed up my galaxy S3 and did a restore on another galaxy s3 (both t-mobile ver). Now when I boot the new one I get "Unfortunately the process android.process.acore has stopped". After hitting OK a few times I get Unfortunately TouchWiz has stopped. Then back to the first message. I can't get past this msg. What do I do?
Flash again.

Flash The rom you already have in the devicr. Or if you are all stock then just do a factory reset. If that doesn't fix it go to the store they will figure something out.

It provably has to do with the user id did titanium ask to change your id upon start?
Try also going into recovery and fix permissions

Titanium never asked me for any kind of ID.
As for going into Recovery - well the problem is that I can't to to anything, I can't get past this message "Unfortunately the process android.process.acore has stopped". I hit OK but it just bring it up again, or another message similar. But the point is that I can't get to anything. I even have trouble powering down cause the message needs be cleared before I press on Power Down, so it take a lot of trial and error before I can power down.

If you hold power for sbout 10 sec, itll restart. To get to recovery from power off or as soon as it powers down at restart hold vol up, home and power buttons. When you see the blue text at top of screen let go of power but keep holding other two.
Once in recovery you can factory reset, or if you have a custom recovery clear cache and dalvik cache and reboot first. If that doesn't work then reflash your rom without wiping. If still not working try factory reset/clear data.

Try going to settings>applications>running>all and scroll to "contacts" open it and choose "clear data" - then go back to "contacts storage" and do the same thing.
Your phone should now be working. Works for me.HTC ONE S.Good luck.
I had the same problem and had to go to each app that would fail and uninstall and reinstall. Clearing the data didnt work for me. Phone ran good and then got the tmo update and had to uninstall reinstall again.

This worked for me! Thanks a lot Be aware that all your contacts will be wiped, and be sure to sync with Google account BEFORE you update your phone. I had sync turned off, and for some reason I missed contacts storage when backing up with Titatium, so all contacts added the last two months are gone.
thanks alot

Had the same problem after a reflash with COMBINATION_I535VRBLK3_I535VZWBLK3_381038_REV09_user_low_ship_NOWIPE_FIXED. All the other suggestions had not helped and was about to wipe user data and reset but tried your fix first. Seems to have done the trick!
For me was a little different. As the Contacts app had done nothing but crash on launch, the app was not in "running". Had to find it in "All" instead. Did the same thing for the Media Storage app.
No more errors. :good:

[Q] Home button not working on 5.0.2

On a 2013 LTE Nexus 7 with the latest 5.0.2 installed, my home button doesn't work. The back and recent apps buttons work fine, but the home button doesn't do anything. Like the rest of the buttons, it responds to touch with an animation, but it doesn't take me home, ever, and it also doesn't launch Google Search on hold. I've read in other posts that there should be a "Home" menu option in Settings under the Device section, but I don't have that either. Another oddity, quick settings pulldown from the status bar isn't working. I can pull down the notification tray, but cannot pull down the quick settings above it.
Doing some tinkering of my own, I can tell you the following:
Wiping the data partition resolves the problem, but I'm trying to keep my user accounts, home screens, apps intact, hence my continued search for solution
Using a different launcher (Google Now Launcher via Play Store), the home button works fine but I'd rather use the default system Launcher
Reflashing the factory system image doesn't resolve the problem
There are no force close error messages
Clearing data/cache for the Launcher app doesn't resolve the problem
Clearing all cached data (through the storage menu option within settings, for each user) also doesn't resolve the problem
I have been tinkering (root, multirom, etc) but right now I'm on a fresh, unrooted factory system image, but with my "dirty" data partition (I'm trying to keep my user accounts, home screens, apps intact)
Any ideas of what might be upsetting the Launcher app? Next steps?
Same here.
I haven't tried your entire list, but I've done a few of them. Oddly, when i hit "recent apps", i can then hit "home" and it works. But that's the only time. And my notifications seem to be dead, as well as quick settings...
Background: I'm all stock. I got a system update notice for 5.1.1, which i was pretty sure i already had. So while checking my current OS version, I ended up verifying that i was up to date already. Shortly thereafter, the home button stopped responding and the tablet froze up. I can't remember if it rebooted by itself or if i had to long press the home button to get it to turn off. But when it came back on, it's like everything went factory reset (all the homescreens returned to factory), but all my apps are still there in the app drawer, but they all act as if i just installed them. I have to go into them and re-login to all of them and change all their settings to how i like them. And the homescreens will need to be redone. And the "home" button and notifications still don't work. Tried Nova, but that doesn't fix any of the issues for me. I may try the Google Now Launcher next.
It looks like ahoyboyhoy has tried flashing factory image and it doesn't help, so i'm not going to factory reset if I'll be stuck in the same situation in the end.
To follow up on *my* experience with this problem, I ended up having to format the data partition, so basically a full factory reset. After that, everything was back to normal and I restored apps from a backup.
Backup question

Thanks for the update! Were you stock? If so, what was the best way you found to do a backup/restore of apps? Did it handle app data? I tried using Helium a few years ago on an HTC device, but I ran into problems that couldn't be overcome. Does Android's built-in backup option work well? I never have had good app data recovery with the buil-in option...

I was stock rooted and I think I used My Backup Pro. Not sure if you need a paid version or root access to backup app data, but I was able to back up apks+data and although it wasn't as seamless as a TWRP backup, it was better than doing things manually.
