Colin battery tweak for evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I liked this battery tweak when I had my hero. Can anyone make this or is there another way to do this with set cpu. I messed with the profiles
But two confusing for me.

Yes but collins tweak had other modifications done to it that Setcpu does not do. It was actually a lot smoother and saved a lot more battery than setcpu

tasker could do most of it i'm sure.

Set cpu looks like it can doo most of it. But for newbies colin battery tweak was so simple. Can anyone tell me a good setup on set cpu

Avs will do alot for you. Get a kernel it Avs.

just get a cfs kernel and setcpu. thats basically what that tweak was...

I have snap bfs. It plays better with my phone. And with snap turbo it is lightning fast .

Only to be used with CM6 right? Too many non-working things in CM6 for me. I love cyanogen but I don't know why they would develop a rom for an Evo with the most important thing missing, it's 4G capability!

collin battery tweak has a script with a ton of commands thats change more then what setcpu does. It was mostly made for cyanogen mod, with swap, and bfs kernel. Then from there it has changed and added alot more features within the system/kernel.
I was helping out with the scripts and testing in the very beginning stages. There is actually some of the commands you can change to increase performance.

is anyone working on it for the evo

Because CM6 is for more devices than just the EVO. Before 6 final came out a lot of the coding was meant to cover a wide variety of phones. Now that 6 final is out coding is being focused on specific phones such as our EVOs. That and because, honestly, there's way more people in non 4G areas than there are in 4G coverage areas. Don't you worry. They'll get 4G working on CM eventually.

Give us some more details, when did you flash? How did you flash? Have you installed any apps lately?
My fault. Sorry. I'm running that CM7 19 VERSION. I am using the red theme from the market. I can't use juice defender simply cause it doesn't support gingerbread yet. I'm using 60676 prl. Can't even find the pri but I'm assuming it's still 1.77 unless cm came with 1.9.
Flashed it 24 hours ago. Haven't switched kernals cause I have had horrible experience with anything other than stock with myn's. I reinstalled all my apps and kik messenger is on lockdown with autostarts. So therefore it doesn't eat up partial wake time and doesn't open unless I do it manually.

Give any new rom at least 2 days to fully "get settled".
What kernal do you recommend? I'm not too familiar with cm.

Stock, until you get those issues ironed out. "Stock" sounds lame, but CM7s kernel is far from stock
After that, I use savaged-zen with much success. Though everyone will tell you that kernels behave differently with different phones. Spend a week trying a few for like 2 days at a time and see which one you like the most Also, play with the governor settings (under settings/cyanogenmod settings/performance). I personally use the SZ kernel with the "interactive" governor and find it to be the best balance between speed and battery life.
Interactive all the way man!! DATS DA BEST!

Flash went you want.. I flashed a savaged kernel right away when I flashed the cm7 rom. I always had good experience with savages kernels. I don't even know how good stock works lol..

What do kernals do??

I'm using XDA app and been searching forums on what kernals do, I'm running cm7 latest nighty with tiamat latest version. Not sure what all the features are , I know it does overclocking and under and voltage adjustments, just wondering if it was worth going to tiamat from cm7 kernal and if it gives better performance and better battery? Thanks

Different kernels work better for different phones... give them a try (give it a few days) and see which works best for you! Like you said, undervolting, under/overclock, BFS, HAVS, CFS, all features to increase battery life and/or performance!
Thanks for reply

The kernel is the part of the operating system that is in direct control of the hardware, its the lowest level of the OS. It controls the frequency the CPU runs at, how much power to pull from the battery, how to schedule I/O, how many frames per second animations run at, and things of that nature.
In my opinion, rooting is almost useless without flashing a custom kernel. Thats really the only way to increase the performance of your phone.

[Q] Now that we have root...

......what ROMS work and how do we overclock?
Unless something has changed, all roms should work (that are made for the evo) and use setcpu to overclock. Please use the search button next time.

eh...I am coming from a DROID2 and setcpu is not the best way. I actually did a google search and only got info on the fact that someone did overclock, but nothing new to support his method was successfully Alpha'd....I was using jrummy's DROID2overclock before, just wondered if I missed anything in my google search about a similar app anyone has made for an EVO..
But thanks for the ROM info

Yea I used setcpu for the time I had my evo (a year) and it never gave me any problems. Just have "set on boot" unchecked to see if that clock speed is stable. I don't think there is an app made specifically for the evo but by all means, Google "evo overclock app" or something along those lines. Btw, all phones will not react the same to apps on the market. Just keep that in mind please

I guess what I am getting at is, on my D2 I could overclock to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3ghz but setcpu doesn't have a scaler to up my ghz(unless I am completely blind, which happens from time to time). I am currently stuck at the stock EVO clock speed.
What I am trying to figure out is how to overclock to 1.2ghz.
Thanks for the assist guys!
You need a kernel that has oc'ing capabilities. Depends on which rom you run, some only use certain kernels
We're comin from a pure power source.

If your using a sense Rom Lithid's Freedom kernel is pretty amazing and supports Overclocking and underclocking, as well as voltage tweaks that make your battery life awesome.

Personally, I don't buy into overclocking. It's really just not necessary with the EVO

Undervolting is done with kernels that support HAVS, setcpu on the other hand is for adjusting CPU speed frequencies, to undervolt you need either vipermod or incredicontrol with a kernel that supports undervolting and/ or overvolting.

Battery Tweaks

I come from the Eris forums, where battery tweak threads were plentiful. Can anyone direct me to such a thread concerning (rooted) INC2s? I'm on CM7, and battery life is so-so on heavy usage. I like to think rooting brings opportunities for ridiculously good battery life, but not w/o some tweaking. Help?
For the most part a majority of devs include there own tweaks into their respected roms. Most will flash a custom kernel which allows overclocking and undervolting. Like I am running miui with areos kernel oc 1.2 and undervolted -50. It is now 9pm and I have been unplugged since 8 and still have 70% with medium heavy use.

I'd rather not pay $5 for something that is only simplifying what I can do myself for free, ya know? I know in the Eris forums they had recommended CPU settings that I could do myself in the CM settings; do we have stuff like that for the INC2?
i usually get at least a day in a half with heavy use. You just need to experiment with custom kernals and different voltages. Not really a simple answer, you need to do the research yourself.
How do I alter voltage? I don't remember that feature on the Eris...

Incredicontrol from the market.
Try Drellisdee's kernel, #21. It's already undervolted and can be overclocked.

On cm7 you'll need aerovans .8 kernel which you can get on rootzwiki. Then install incredicontrol from the market. I undervolted mine 75-100 on all and had no issues with excellent battery.

#1 cause of battery drain: Global mode enabled. Make sure to disable it in settings/calls and set it to cdma only. My battery basically doubled after doing that. I figured that out the first week I had it.

Performance settings in CM9

Sorry if there's a thread to post this in and I'm completely missing this but....
I was wondering what some good settings would be under the 'performance' tab in settings. I'm kinda worried to mess with them, but i'd like to set it up to optimize my battery for the most part. Any tips?
Well, I don't use CM9 so I can't really give you the kind of answer you're looking for but my guess would be just stick to the stock settings. The people who put that whole ROM together know what they're doing and the settings they set the ROM to run to are probably the best. I could be wrong, but this is just logically thinking.

But remember every epic is different as far as hw goes...then take in the aspect of the user (gamer, streamer, just text/call, etc...) and you really dont have 2 phones that run the same. So im sure the preset settings in cm9 are probably best-for a particular user.

I am moving from the samsung moment and am in search of a new I/O + Govener setup...everything runs so different (better) than the moment. I have yet to be satisfide with a good combo that fits my usage as well has good battery life+performance+stability...ill get one of the 3 here...and maybe 2 of the 3 there...but i want it all
