Hi, i have froyo on my Desire and when I move my applications to my SD card, approx half of the size of the application still resides on my phone. How exactly does the 'move to sd card' function work ? e.g google earth still takes up 15MB of internal memory. can someone explain this to me please ?

It's not the app that takes up space, it's the data it stores.

Is there a way to move the data to the SD card ?

Het me start saying that I nove mt Desire. One thing not so good is the short memory, at least in my opinion... I've been testing all sort of apps and after one month of fun, I only have 30mb free space on internal memory. I've been using apps2sd to move apps to SD but a lot of then don't allow it.
What's your opinion and experience on that issue? Can you give me some advice to "grow" my memory?
Thanks in advance...

fyi the term memory management refers to the way android handles the ram not the internal storage, as for apps2sd your getting confused, the move to sd function in froyo has nothing to do with apps2sd, to get apps2sd to work you must create an ext 2/3/4 partition on your sd card
Thanks for the info.
But one thing. I've been using the app2sd to move some apps to the SD card and my SD OS fat32. What do I gain by formatting to ext2/3/4?
But still, how do you overcome these memory limitation?

if you have a rom that is apps2sd enabled, make a partiton on your sd card that is ext 2/3/4, this is the same as the native linux fs, then the apps2sd script creates a symlink between /data/app/, the dalvik cache and your ext partition, moving everything from thoes locations to the ext saving alot of space
Thanks a lot for your help!
I already have apps2sd working. At least I think so ... He moves the apps to the card. You think I should format in ext?
What other advice can you give to a beginner to improve the storage space? Can I force some of the applications that app2sd doesn't allow me to move to SD to go anyway? Games and so...
Anybody can tell how to move apps to SD card ?
I am unable to move my apps from phone memory to SD card.
I have 64gb Sandisk Class 10 memory card.
I dont get any options to move them to sd card in the app manager.
I also installed app2sd application but it says my phone doesnot have a real primary source of memory or my memory source is emulated.
How do i transfer ?? I have these 2gb and 4gb games which i want to transfer to memory card.

Does not work will not work.
Swap your memory if you are rooted.
JellyBean does not support apps to sd.
In futere wil be possible when rom development is going on.
you can bind your gamedata folder to sd card so additional data is stored on ext sd card.

How do I bind it? Can u guide.
samsungs default is to save apps to the sd card (internal) partition. they share it. i think that's how google has also made it from ICS on out. so there's no point really.
I have app2sd on my ns4g on jellybean so it can't be because of jellybean?

It works perfect for me. Now I have 9 GB free internal storage.
how is the best to have applications? internal memory or the SD card? I heard that if applications are stored in the internal memory runs faster than sd card. it`s that true? or the best is to have it all on SD? Sorry for my english

Help!
I'm running out of memory on my phone!
I only have like 400 mb available on my internal memory but nearly
28 gb on my SD card. But despite that the asks well not download onto that
and I've moved all the "movable" apps into the SD card. So here's the question:
Does anyone know how to make the phone "think" that the external SD card is the internal memory and the provided 4 gb that you can use is the external.
Thanks in advance.
Which rom are you using? In B512 I have the "default storage location" option, and I can change SD card or internal memory.
Option available on KitKat?

So you're on KitKat right (b512) ? And you can swap them?
But do the apps fully download onto the external memory and that annoying
"Insufficient memory" message doesn't appear?
K I'll try it out and see.

Application data is on the SD card, but application is in internal memory.
If you want move applications into SD card, you should use "Link2SD" (require root).
Having 32 GB = no difference then then

I tried using Links2SD before but didn't work. Am i using it wrong, is if so how do you do so? Even so if some part of the app I'd stored in the internal memory then that still means that i can download a small number of apps due to the small space. How do you switch the memories if possible. But how could i move pictures and videos to the SD card (quite done memory is taken up - check previous screenshot) ?
Thanks.
