Clockwork update 2.5.0.1 to 2.5.0.7 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to update to the newest Clockwork.
When I apply the update.zip the newest Clockwork appears, but if I reboot the old version appears.

You need to use UnrEVOked to permanently flash a new recovery to your device.

Do I have to update unrevoked?
When i flashed the recovery image it was 2.5.0.1

Yes you do... this is what i did and i got the newest recovery

Hello Foxmeister,
can you please tell us how to install the latest Clockwork 2.5.0.7 on our desire.
Or we just must copy the recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.zip and rename it to update.zip?
Or me must flash the recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.zip via recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1
from this site koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/
big thanks

As I said before, you use UnrEVOked.
Just flashing an update.zip of recovery will only launch the recovery one time - it won't actually flash it to your device.
As far as I'm aware, UnrEVOked is the only tool that will permanently flash a new recovery image to your device. It even allows you to choose a different recovery (e.g. AmonRa) if you wish.
Regards,
Dave

could you please upload unrevoked 3? The devs says it's down atm

Unrevocked v3.14
here u can download latest unrevocked version 3.14 containing latest clockworkmod.

A different question about 2.5.0.7 -
How do I know if "wipe Dalvik Cache" or "wipe battery stats" (in advanced menu) work? I run both when flashing new ROMs and unlike the other wipes, there is no message on the screen that confirm that it was done..
Is my recovery broken?
Thanks

I have the same issue!

A factory reset in recovery will wipe everything - cache, dalvik-cache and battery stats.

only unrevoked3 does it permanently...
lock in here and you get the newest version in top of the site...

Hi, it was a question how to update the Clockwork from 2.5.0.1 to 2.5.0.7. So, I will write my way of the update.
I just used the ROM Manager from Android Market. Today, when I started the ROM Manager I saw this item:
Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1
Latest Recovery: ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7
Just after, I clicked on the Flash ClockworkMod Recovery I chose the HTC Desire and it started to download the new version and flashed it. It was done automatically.
After, I rebooted into the Recovery and I have a version 2.5.0.7. It wasn´t necessary to start any application from Windows or Linux...

Then congratulations. AT my Desire only unrevoked flashed a permanent recovery.
Please shutdown your phone and Start IT with Power +Vol down and look at the recovery Version. How did YouTube root your Desire before?

It is little bit bizarre.
I just did what you wrote. I switched off my Desire. Just after I used Power+Vol down and I entered into Recovery Menu where was a version 2.5.0.1.
So, no permanent flash.
Ok, I rebooted my Desire and I started the Rom Manager where I saw
Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7
Latest Recovery: ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7
I clicked on the Reboot into Recovery in the Rom Manager and it started the Recovery version 2.5.0.7.
How is it possible ?

When you hold Power+Vol Down, you will enter the recovery permanently installed on your phone. When you go to recovery from Rom Manager, it loads up the recovery from sdcard, which Rom Manager installed.

there is'nt an update recovery image for 2.5.0.7 so cannot be a permanent flash yet.

As far as I'm aware, the ROM Manager recovery is a "fake flash" mechanism, and you always need to enter recovery via ROM manager (or manually flash the update.zip)
If you want a permanent recovery image, you need to flash via Unrevoked.
Could be wrong, but that's my understanding anyway. I don't pay too much attention because I don't use ROM Manager much.
Regards,
Dave
Desire was rooted via unrevoked ages ago. I use a widget to enter recovery. I then manually flash the clockworkmod recovery update zip which then updates clockworkmod to the latest version. I then reboot. ROM manager says I am at latest version I have just flashed however if I then enter recovery again, via any method, clockworkmod recovery has reverted back to old version as if I haven't flashed the update.

So you are saying that if you select "Reboot into Recovery" from ROM Manager, you end up in the recovery you flashed via Unrevoked?
If I go into recovery from ROM manager, I can see that it first "fake flashes" recovery and then boots into it. Going into recovery via Power +Vol Down, I boot into HBOOT from which I select Recovery - I then end up in the recovery image from Unrevoked.

Dave

no, i am saying that i can only reboot into that latest clockworkmod recovery, which is 2.5.0.7, if i reboot into recovery via ROM manager.
if i reboot via hboot or a reboot widget such as SwitchPro all i get is the version of clockworkmod recovery installed when i unrevoked, which is 2.5.0.1.
clockworkmod recovery doesnt recognise that i have flashed the update zip if i reboot into recovery via hboot or switchpro.
what i want is to be able to reboot into the latest version of clockworkmod recovery without using Rom manager.
dont worry i have figured out its not possible to keep the updated clockworkmod recovery because unrevoked doesnt unlock permanently the NAND flash chip. so even though its been updated when the new version of clockworkmod is flashed it doesnt stick.

And that is *absolutely* the correct behaviour, and is the point I alluded to my original post.
If you want to permanently update the recovery image on your phone to 2.5.0.7, you need to use Unrevoked again and select a custom recovery image (note these needs to be an IMG file, not a ZIP!).
Simply flashing the update.zip merely boots you into the new recovery, it doesn't actually flash the new recovery - hence the name, Fake Flash!

Dave

yeah i know its the correct behaviour, i just wasnt sure why other reboot methods didnt reboot into the newest version, now i know.
the latest version of unrevoked, v3.14 includes clockworkmod recover 2.5.07 as its default image anyway.
as i am already rooted using unrevoked can i just use unrevoked again? ie nandroid backup>root again with latest version of unrevoked>restore nandroid backup? will that work do you think?

clockworkmod 2.5.0.5 to 2.5.1.2

so im on .0.5 and i seen that there is a 1.2 version available.. i've had no problems before or currently with .0.5, but i'm curious to the changelog of 1.2.. i'm not finding any info on it.. anything that would blow my mind or offer benefits.. much thanks..
I can confirm that it has optical trackpad scroll and works with SLCD screens.
No problems here either. Flashed a ROM, a kernel, a theme with 2.5.1.2 then restored a backup made with 2.5.0.5.
Ditto with the above. Flashed old backup using the new version of clockwork
where do i find if i am amoled or slcd??
I flashed clockworkmod 2.5.1.2 and now i can't get into recovery. It will boot into fastboot and hboot but when i click recovery from hboot it brings me to fastboot. Same thing when i try it from rom manager
incredible rooted with latest CM nightly, s-off

Checking MD5s can take a while.
It completes, but takes about 10 minutes. 2.5.1.1 had this problem as well.

I also can't get into recovery after flashing the new clockworkmod. Will boot into hboot but when I try to boot into recovery I get stuck at the HTC Incredible white screen.
In ROM Manager, clear download cache. Then flash a different version of Clockwork, the reflash the current one and test.

It's working fine for me. I opened up ROM Manager to do a back up and it prompted me to update CWM. I did it. Have rebooted into recovery a few times to be sure and have made a backup. Also the optical trackpad works MUCH faster and better in this version.

It might be a SLCD-related brick issue. On the previous version of CWM (2.5.0.5), you could flash a mod by (koush? adrynalyne? sp?) on top to get it working.
(I can't post links yet, so if you google "Rooting stock 2.2 using unrEVOked 3.22" it will be the first link, it's on incredibleforum, Step 3A of the OP)
Alternatively, putting BAMod on the root of your SD card works (if you don't get revoked tool etc to run cos it won't boot up) to start up your phone again into recovery. Remember to rename to "PB31IMG.zip"

Problem with Clockworkmod

Hi guys i hope that someone can help me!
I have a problem with ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0 because when I go into recovery from hboot ClockworkMod opens but when I select "install zip from sd card" only the background remains with the hat and I do not select the files in the sd.
Even when I select "power down" the phone is switched on and still remains on the screen with the hat.
How about pressing power button when on the hat icon and then pressing trackpad . Try them and you will know.

I had not thought!! Thanks very much mate!!
Hello guys!
I have exactly the opposite problem.
I rooted and s-off my phone following these instructions:
baert.ulyssis.be/ 2010/ 10/ 13/ wildpuzzle-rom-for-htc-wildfire/
(sorry for spaces, but the forum doesn't allow me to psot the link otherwise).
Then I installed SuperUser and then ROM Manager, in order to flash a new ROM. Then ROM-Manager "told" that my CWM Recovery 3.0.0.6 was incompatible or something like that and it should automatically download and flash Recovery 2.5.0.7. I allowed it to download the new Recovery and proceeded with installing my ROM (WildPuzzleROM_2.2.1 v0.8) successfully.
Every time I needed to access Recovery 2.5.0.7, I just open ROM-Manager and chose "Reboot into Recovery", and it always rebooted into Recovery 2.5.0.7. But today I tried to access Recovery by rebooting and holding down volume button. And it loaded Recovery 3.0.0.6. I turned off the phone, re-opened it, went to ROM-Manager and chose again "Reboot into Recovery" and it loaded Recovery 2.5.0.7.
So apparently my phone has two versions of Recovery. It loads version 3.0.0.6 when I reboot with the volume button and it loads version 2.5.0.7 through ROM-Manager. And I need ONLY Recovery 2.5.0.7, because the other version crashes (error message: "Amend Scripting is deprecated by Google in Cupcake...etc etc") every time I tried to flash new ROMs and I read somewhere in the forums that this happens because of the 3.x version of Recovery.
So here comes my question: How do I remove Recovery 3.0.0.6 and keep ONLY 2.5.0.7 ?
Thank you all very much, beforehand!
You can do so by using fastboot to manualy flash the old recovery using the command "fastboot flash recovery <path to recovery>recovery.img". If you do not now how to use fastboot, you have to search the forum a bit (can't give you any links as I'm using the xda app).
But for your problem: it is all normal. ROM Manager launches indeed some kind of temporary recovery, which is stored on your sdcard.
But you better rethink about downgrading your recovery: there is a reason why people we are now on v4 of clockworkmod some bugs are fixed (for example, now you can charge your phone when its off - isn't possible with any version of CWM lower then v3) and the menu is better, with more and handy options. The only reason why we keep using the old CWM is because of its ability to flash "old" zipfiles.
So in my opion, it is not worthet to downgrade CWM. You gain much more with the new one, and it is really no effort to flash your "old" zip files with the use of ROM Manager.

Obviously you were right on the part that I should actually upgrade my CWM Recovery instead of downgrading it. And the main reason for this, proved to be that my former version had a charging bug. If I charged the phone while switched off, it wouldn't switch on, unless I removed the battery.
Anyway, I followed your advise and flashed Clockwork 4.0.1.4.110720. But the charging problem was still there, so I tried several versions of CWM, till I finally found that for my case Clockworkmod Recovery v3.2.0.0 was the best option.

CWM backup problem

My phone is
Unlocked
S-ON
rooted
I've flashed Alquez's Unofficial ClockworkMod and installed CWM. ROM Manager says Current Recovery ClockWorkMod 2.5.0.7
Latest Recovery ClockWorkMod 2.5.0.7
but when I try to backup current ROM, the phone reboots and I get a triangle with an ! in it and the phone freezes. CWM has root permissions.
Any clues please?
My opinion... dont use the Manger. So many people in the past show me that a App is only a App.
For example: Some users perform a backup with the manager but the sdcard was full...
The result: No Backup and a crying user.
If you perform the backup manually ... you see the sdcard is full.
Some job´s should be only done by a human
But regarding your problem: Can you boot into the recovery from the bootloader?

Yes, I can, and I can perform a backup from there, perhaps you're right I should avoid the app. Thanks
The triangle with a ! is the stock recovery. I think you need another key combination to progress into the stock recovery itself.
But the main point is, your flash of CWM recovery didn't work.

Interesting, It seems to be there as I can get to it from a cold start but not from within the app. Maybe I'll re-flash and see if that works. Thanks

Sounds like you probably aren't rooted but you also should try using unrevoked 3.22 rather than 3.32. Below is a section from a guide I posted for rooting your inc.(that is if you were unable to flash recovery.img) hope it helps

Step 2: Flash Clockwork Recovery to your phone
You now need to download a few more files and place them somewhere that will be easy to find.
Unrevoked 3.22 from Mediafire – NOTE: if this link ever becomes broken, you must use version 3.22, 3.32 will NOT work.
Clockwork 5.0.2.0 from PvilleComp.com – make sure you use clockwork 5.0.2.0 with md5: e8ac35ddc1c37000bb0852d1f380b5bb
Next, run unrevoked 3.22, as an administrator if you can. And click file>Custom Recovery… and select the .img file which is inside the Clockwork 5.0.2.0 .zip that you downloaded, you may need to extract the folder first.
Next you can plug in your phone and select charge only and then go to Settings>Applications>development> and enable debugging.
Unrevoked should now recognize your phone and bring up a warning dialogue. Click ok and Unrevoked will run and flash Clockwork 5.0.2.0 to your phone. Do not touch your phone until you see a terminal-like screen on your phone in all blue text on a black background.
you can navigate clockwork using the scroll button at the bottom of your droid incredible to navigate and center-click for “enter”.

Double check that's your version of CWM, which should work. Your symptoms are standard for an older version of CWM on a SLCD screen. To be safe, go into ROM Manager, advanced options, and check erase recovery. Then reflash CWM 5.0.2.0.
Thanks for the suggestion..it didn't work. I flashed older CWMs and AmonRa but I still get the black screen with CWM logo. Thinking of:
- Fastboot erase recovery
- push recovery image
- then reflash CWM through ROM Manager?
Thoughts? Thanks again for the help!
K
Wait, black screen with CWM logo? That means you're in it, but pressed the power button at the main menu. Try pressing the power button once to get out of that when you see the logo.
Yeah..It seems like I can't select the options in the menu though I can toggle through. Its weird...even flashing the other cwm versions does the same thing.
SOLVED: Didn't realize you were supposed to use the trackpad to select..I kept pressing power...(that's how it is done on MoPho). Thanks for your help!
