Desire or Nexus One?..... - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys im looking to get a new phone, currently got a rooted Hero which I love to bits but now lack the ooomph that comes with the 1ghz (had a Galaxy S for a week but coundnt stand it!)
What do you recomend out of the above ? or should I hang fire for the Desire HD ?
Any comments would be good
cheers

Personally, I'd hang fire for the HD, which will hopefully be announced tomorrow.
As to the Nexus One or Desire debate, I think if the UnrEVOked team can get us an S-OFF bootloader, most of the Nexus Ones advantage disappears.
Regards,
Dave

Yeah I've been toying with the idea of waiting but does anyone actually know what were going to be waiting for ? I've heard there will be an 8 megapixel camera and obviously HD recording but thats not really enough to swing it if thats all your getting....plus as with any new phone the dev scene will prob take a while to pick up so am guessing it'll be a while before it can be rooted? and roms start to appear where as the Desire scene is currently alive and kicking....

Actually, I think the biggest plus point that the Desire HD will have over the Desire and Nexus One is a much larger internal memory for app storage render any form of A2SD as largely obsolete.
Regards,
Dave.

Sounds promising...actually thats one thing i miss about the SGS...the massive storage....

You should sure wait. It is only about 24 hours until the HTC show-off
Also both internal memory and screen size from desire hd would be great.

Lol, I want one as well, it'll be useful as a backup phone I'd say
It looks really nice. But WVGA lets it down. A lot.
Prefer my Desire tbh.

How in the world does WVGA let it down, when your Desire has the exact same WVGA resolution?

[Q] Are you getting a Desire S

So, as the title suggests i would like to know how many of you are thinking of buying the new Desire S.
I have a DHD now but i don't like it as much as i liked th Desire so i'm thinking of buying the S one.
Hope it will be as fun as the old classic Desire...
No
Desire was the best mobile phone last year at that time, Desire S is only avarage today. I will replace Desire with probably Galaxy S2.
Desire S is just a replacement, not an upgrade so I am not going to waste money on just a little more space and a little better stuff. Dual or even quad will be my next phone in a years time.
I'm just hoping HTC will bring out an NFC phone in time for my next upgrade, otherwise I don't know which manufacturer I might have to turn to. I still want an android but don't want to give up Sense.
HTC Desire S is a nice phone but not an upgrade to Desire , it's just for older phone owners.
I don't think I will ever buy a Samsung. Unless they keep monoploizing the amoled supply.

No. It only have 256 mb of ram more, some internal and newer snapdragon. I don't know why HTC doesn't have any dual core cpu.
And I prefer trackball + physical buttons, not the capacitive ones.
Motorola Atrix looks intresting, but probably it will be hard to hack.
I will wait probably to 2012, Desire is now perfect for me.

I think that trackpad is awesome on the Desire and should be kept on ALL HTC phones. I don't like how they have gotten around the problem by adding arrows to the keyboard. It just uses up screen space which sucks. WTB trackpad please
No, definetly not.
I love my Desire, best phone I've ever had. There's too little differences between the phones that would make a difference in choice.

which i think doesnt really matter, since you have as2d+, data2ext and all that stuff.
i love my desire
I am not ready to change yet. My Desire still dos everything that I ask of it (and more) and whilst the low memory affects me more than I would like for now there is nothing out there to tempt me.
But I think it is fair to say that my next phone won't automatically be another HTC.
One thing I have learnt with the Desire it that Android is Android and the current software setup I have and screen layout cold be achieved on ANY Android device.
So the whole HTC Sense thing (which on my previous Winmo HTC phones was essential) adds little value for me on Android.
So a naked Nexus type device would be tempting keeping me bang up to date but with full control but not just yet.
Nope just got my desire and not ready to change but to be honest i see the s as the way the original desire should have been ie more Space . Hopefully when it's time for me to upgrade there will be something worth saying i upgraded to out but if it's one of these honestly i think i would just end up flogging it on ebay lol
No go for me either.
I'm very satisfied with my old Desire (tweaked it a lot though).
I'm getting the LG Optimus 2x soon to play with.
But I'm keeping both phones.

I wanted to ask you why do you like the classic htc desire (bravo) more than the desire hd? I have the classic desire with a amoled screen and I actually want to sell it and buy me a DHD but now you are saying that the desire classic is better I don't know what to do anymore so can you tell me why it is better to stick with the classic one? thnx in advance
Absolutely not. I had to go through so much trouble just to get some free memory while Samsung and others are delivering 16 Gb of internal memory. I think HTC is cheap and is missing the point. Of course I have rooted and ext2 but still...

If you look at the HTC Desire specs and the Desire S specs there's not much which is different. Just some memory added and a front facing camera.
We know the Desire S comes with Gingerbread but the normal Desire will be getting it soon too.
Desire has been around for around 1 Year and till today it is one of the top phones.Me,personally wouldn't go for the Desire S but it's personal choice at the end of the day.
I've heard good things about the Galaxy S 2,being the thinnest smartphone with a Dual Core Processor .
There needs to be something revolutionary introduced on the phone market for me to switch from my Desire
No way am I getting Desire S. I don't think HTC intended to entice the Desire users with Desire S. I have a funny feeling HTC has an upgrade-worthy phone but decided not to show it at the convention.

[Q] New phone (Desire Z or Desire HD or HD2)

Hey XDA
Im thinking about getting a new phone but i don't know what one really
Parallel imported Desire Z
Ebay T-mobile G2
Parallel imported Desire HD
Parallel imported HD2
And i dont know what one pro's and cons if possible will be planning to root
hey matey,
if your in the us and dont mind going with tmobile.. id go with the g2.
the difference between desire z and g2 is that the g2 has 4gb of rom for apps but it doesnt have as many signal bands so it can only be used in the us. the desire z only has 1gb rom for apps but has almost all the bands for abroad use.
the HD2 seems to have better battery life but android doesnt run 100% yet.. ive just come from the hd2 to the desire z and personally there's not much difference but the desire Z and HD and G2 have updated tech in them over the HD2 which is understandable.
the Desire HD is much like the hd2 only it has the worst battery life out of all the handsets listed. but it has an extra 256mb of ram over the Desire z and g2 which have 512 mb
the desire z and g2 have second gen snap dragon processors running at 800mhz but they can be overclocked safely to 1.43
the desire hd and hd2 both share the first gen snap dragon processor running at 1ghz i *think*
it all depends on these:
do you want good battery life
do you want to use it out of the US
do you want to have a qwerty keyboard
i have the UK desire z and love it.. ive had no problems with it, the hinge is a tiny bit loose but its meant to be, its very strong though. ive got 50apps installed and still have 900mb out of the 1gb. battery life is around 30hours dependant on usage and ive got the benifit of the qwerty keyboard.
my vote is go for the G2 if your in the US
hope this helps matey

fair enough then i never knew that (Y) cheers
well i would go with the desire z then, as it has the advantage of all bands
however if u want to mod the phone as much as possible the hd2 has the most development currently with wm6.5 android and windows phone 7
but i preffer android with a qwerty

Not true. Coming from the HD2 myself, I can say that the HD2 can run Android 200%. There are SO many developers over there and they even got a very stable port of CM7 (with some customizing) way before RC1 was even released. Battery life is amazing on the HD2, seemingly unbrickable and you couldn't go wrong choosing it.

I live in new zealand so does it matter if its parallel imported?
oh im not knocking the HD2 i had one for over a year, its an amazing phone... but if you want the qwerty board then the desire z or g2 is the android phone for you
hd2 is the best if you want to mod it the most... as i said, it has the most development focus at the moment.
the one thing i didnt like about it was the lack of rom memory, unless its the 1gb tmob edition, although you could use apps2sd to get around this !!
it all depends what you want out of a phone.. for the best phone that can run all the differend mobile os platforms.. HD2, for a mobile thats stable, has decent hardware and has a qwerty then the desire z or g2 if the phone for you... i dont see a slot for the desire hd really... i believe the hd2 is far better than the desire hd as it has more development around it
battery life with my desire z is around 30 hours... with my hd2 i easily got 48
choice is yours (Y)

[Q]Is it worth buying Desire now?

Ok, so, i sold my SGS because it was boring and i wanted to buy Desire because it has a LOT of custom ROMs and it has Sense UI.
What are the main disadvantages of this phone.
Or i should save some more money for DHD?
Desire cost 220€ and DHD 330€...
What should i do?
Main disadvantages is definitely low memory(512mb) and lack of real multitouch.
It's still a great phone when taking the price into the equation.

EDIT: oh, i saw a video on a youtube...this sucks :S
You may as well get the Desire S really.

Custom ROMs with Data2SD or A2SD+ will solve the memory problem of the Desire.
The DHD, in my opinion, is an inferior product in that it doesn't offer much more than the Desire does, and even has a smaller battery while sporting a larger LCD display.
You should just get the Desire S, IMHO.
for me.. desire still relevant and worth to buy since the new phone still using single core processor. a lot of customization is make desire very useful in the future because of the development of desire custom rom is still in progress.
Desire is almost 2 years old now. Its great but check newer Desire S.

I think it released in 2010.
Personally, I love the Desire line. Even the basic provides just about everything you need. Completely customized if you wish to root and flash ROMS. Not to mention, it is probably still one of the top selling phones.
As with processor, who needs dual core? Hardly any apps for it. If you need more speed, you can overclock it. (like me)
As with memory, as previously stated, when you customize it, you can partition and move apps to the SD card.
If you can get it for a good price, I'd go for it. In fact, I'm thinking of getting another for my wife. Besides, the basic design for HTC hasn't changed much.
Not to mention, Desire forums have the best support.
Choose wisely!

Is it a good idea to buy HTC Incredible S instead of HTC Desire?

Only thing it is holding me back because it isn't popular phone so I might don't have much of support or any help for rooting, hardware issue or anything like that. I could just save $150 and go for HTC Desire, but I like 8mpx, front camera and the screen on HTC Incredible S. I like HTC Desire because it is quite popular and it has a lot of support, but Incredible S sounds and look much cooler.
Also excuse me for posting in wrong section, I couldn't find a correct section for general discussion of android phone (hardware).
EDIT: I posted this thread in both section Desire and Incredible S for unbiased opinion.
Two words. Incredible s. If you can wait get a sensation
Sent From My HTC sensation (desire with rcmix s )
Incredible S defenietly has better specifications, but it indeed does not have the same customrom / supportuserbase on xda yet.
Like stated above, the Sensation will be out in 1-2months, and thats a great phone. If you cannot wait and want a new phone now, perhaps the Desire HD is a valid option also (Better than regular Desire, similar specs to Incredible, but awesome support/userbase here on XDA).
Blah id get the lg optimus 2x for that amount of cash (dual corez)
But if i had to choose incredible s (desire is booring)
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I got an Arc to wait for the Sensation with root, I am considering to sell it and get a Desire or DHD just because the Arc while it has root it doesn't have any custom rom!
I sold my 1 year used N1 for 330$ 2 weeks ago so I think selling a Desire or DHD in 2 months will be pretty the same, whereas the SE price droping fast and its lack of popularity will mean that I will sell it for even less than a Desire.
So if you can't live without custom roms more than 2 weeks...buy a good old Desire or DHD!
The Sensation will be out between the 8th and 15th June, add to that another month to find a root and the price to decrease
Well, guys, thanks for replying, but why would you ever mention Sensation? I have a budget and I couldn't shell out that much of money and what I heard, dual-core is a battery drainer plus I don't want 4.3" screen as it's too big for me. Even 4" is, that's why I was going for Desire which is 3.7" or something.
Can you put custom ROM on Incredible S?
^If you're that worried about budget and everything, you might want to look into the Nexus S, it runs better than any of these phones (except dual-core), has decent dev support, is factory-unlocked, and it's more pocket-able than 4.3" phones.
If you're absolutely tied between the Desire and the Incredible S, then go for the Incredible S because of significantly better specs, a newer version of Sense and WAY more onboard memory.
To be honest, the main reasons people here work on custom roms, is because we don't have Sense 2.0 on the Desire without an Ace rom (DHD), because of memory limitations (147MB on stock partition table, vs 1.1GB in Incredible S), to make it run faster, or to run MIUI or AOSP.
Sense is great, and with the Incredible S, your phone will run better than a Desire running sense ever would, so go with that!

I couldn't go for Google Nexus S because it doesn't have support in Moscow, Russia e.g if I have hardware failure or such, I couldn't take it to the support.
Sounds like I wouldn't need to change ROM on Incredible S but I would like to be able to root it to have full power on it. Is Android applications depended of which phone model do you have (I'm already aware it's depended of android version)?
Also, is dev support is that important? If it is, then I guess I should fall back down to HTC Desire.
Also, I'm pretty tired of this 5 minutes limit for editing/posting, when will it get removed?
If you are in desperate need of a new phone and you can afford something more expensive than Desire, I think you should get either Incredible S or Nexus S.
If you can wait and still afford the price when it comes to the market, I think Sensation would be the better option.
The good old Desire is still a good option to get. Despite of all its weaknesses due to being an old model with old specs, Desire is very cheap at this moment, especially the second handed one.
I had a Desire about a year ago, then moved to the Samsung Galaxy S.
But just today I bought a Desire for £200 brand new, I couldn't resist as it's just such a good phone!
Running AdamG's Oxygen ROM on it now, it's so awesome!
Oh well I just discovered the weather from Sense 3.0 has been ported to DHD in a 100% workingl rom, the Desire will follow shortly
I guess it boils down to price for you by the sounds of it. Also consider if you are big in to gaming and video as Incredible GPU is much better than Desire from what I can remember. Is the Incredible locked though, as in bootloader/ROM's? Also something to bear in mind.
