GPS not working. help please! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi there. It's about 3 months that my TP2 gps is not working
there is not any error or something. it only starts to search for satellites but not even one little percent is found! all bars remains empty
I wait for long times in very good locations. compared with other phones...
I searched many roms, many radios, many programs, and some tweaks I found on the web
I dont remember the original settings and radio I had anymore! though they dont work either...
any help please? should I give up and believe that its a hardware issue?

I found that mine does the same thing. Oddly enough, when I add the bluetooth GPS receiver it works fine, even AFTER I remove the bluetooth receiver (turned off) and go back to my internal receiver. It seems that the TP2 can't lock onto the satellites but once it has a lock will continue to track...
Major pain in the arse...

Thanks. unfortunately I have no bluetooth gps right now. will test this with my brother's car navigator
the annoying thing is that it works very nice in first months! but as soon as I started flashing cooked roms and new radios it never works again
rolling back to my default rom and radio, doesn't help...

TomTom 5

Hello, just thought I would share my problems with you after installing TomTom 5.
I use a Blueangel (badged as XDA2S) with all the latest patches etc, but with the standard ROM.
After installing TomTom 5 I get the following problems.
1. No Virtual (screen) keyboard
2. The signal strengh meter does not display any bars or indicate the number of satellites locked onto
3. When I save my "home" position it only saves the co-ordinates in that session. If I shut down TomTom and re-start it then the "home position is lost
4. If I receive a call whilst the navigator is running, my XDA really struggles to display the telephone interface.
5. There is no option to change screen sizes
I suffered NONE of the above whilst using TomTom 3 so I have just removed TT5 and re-installed TT3 WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.
TT5 worked well apart from the points above, but most of all I loved the extra detail and the super quick rastering/vectoring on the graphics whilst on the move.
Does anyone know if TT4 is worth installing, and what are the advantages of it over TT3?
Cheers
Fatzzz
Virtual screen keyboard is a known problem, if you use "Advanced Planning" the OSKB works fine (or at least it does on my unit XDAIIs), the lack of sat info is strange are you leaving it long enough to sincro - it could take upto 20 min for the first time? is it wired or BT if wired is the IRdA ll beams still selected - if so turn it off and the wired unit will work I have had endless problems with my unit and in the end swapped it for another identical handset - and now it all works - I never got TT3 to work correctly as I use a BT headset and the TT3 locked it out from connecting, TT5 doesn't work fully with the XDAII2s using BT GPS and headset - when you terminate a call it closes down the GPS connection as well - since I have now set it all up running vs5 with wired GPS and BT headset its great - it does exactly what I want, check you settings and get back to me with more specific info if you want - mike
Hmm, intrigued that you say when you use "advanced planning" with TT5 on XDAIIs as if I use this option the OSKB is still missing
Hi, I get no problems navigating at all, but still no keyboard even using the advanced route planning.
Bluetooth worked fine with TT5 and TT3.
Cheers
OK I need to quantify that - I use the advancd planning to find destination on the map and save that as a fav, once this done the OSKB pops up and you can re-name it to what ever you want, its not ideal but I am prepared to live with it untill someone comes up with a fix - tt3 was much better but not on the XDA totally useless, having said that the new XDA O2 have given me has worked faultlesly since Saturday, perhaps the first one was a rougue unit time will tell, first impressions pretty good, no reset in three days and satnav plus phone operable whilst on the road - what it should have done in the first place

My GPS works with Google maps but not TOMTOM???

like i said, gps works fine with the internal one, when i am using google maps, but when i try use the tomtom app with the internal gps its got grey bars and then i wait ages.....
they will then flick blue, but then drop off again... then about 5 mins later a quick flash of blue then back to grey, just wont hold out on tomtom, anyone else found a problem like this?
the only solution i found was the stick on my bluetooth gps reciever, but i got this phone with the internal gps as i manged to get the DIAMOND working fine with internal gps and now i have the blackstone/hd i want it working,
im using version 7.910 tomtom black vga'd with 8.4 maps but i also had the problem when i was using the earlier verison 7.45 with version 7 maps.
???????
Sounds like you have AGPS enabled. Disable AGPS and you should be ok
interesting, i definitely do have it on, so will have to try it without it mate, will report back if it holds a connection.
looks like it is working, as its holding my position now, but i will try it out on the drive to work in the morning.
Thanks for the advice.
Isnt it weird that something designed to improve GPS doent work lol
tried it this morning kept dropping signal every 5secs, so i ran quick gps, as i read Andy reporting similar things, i last updated this last night, but still... ran it, ad it worked all the way to work. when i checked signal, all but last two bars were filled blue, will neednto try again on way home,
is this related to cold/hot start?
didnt update quick gps, and all seems to be working ok still on tomtom, no problems yet, always on full signal!!
thanks guys

[Q] Problem with GPS

I have a problem with my Defy.
The GPS doesn't seem to work properly. I've tested it with GPS Status & GPS Test...it detects satellites but doesn't use any of them to locate the cell phone.
A few days ago, I've succeed to get a localization but since it doesn't work.
I've just reboot it so that I'll have the manufacturing settings but, it still doesn't work...
Can someone be of any help ?
Thanks.

Have you tried calibrating the compass in the settings? I had what sounds like a similar problem and I did that it worked for me.
Have you tried going into airplane mode, then using the GPS?
The compass is calibrated.
I've tried to turn on the airplane mode & then to launch the gps...same result no satellite in use, no localization...
I tried the GPS today, no airplain mode, defy was working as usual. I had to wait quite long time to get the fix but then no issues. FYI compass was already calibrated.
Since your defy is able to detect the satellites it should not be an hardware issue, i guess you were using pre-installed gmaps and navigator, have you tried any other software which makes use of gps location? (e.g. TrackMe)

Yes, that's what I think, it shouldn't be a hardware issue...
I tried with the apps GPS test & GPS status which were not pre-installed and it doesn't work either...

I can't figure out what's causing your issue... but, take a look here:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/40896
maybe it could be helpful, second post of cheaplikeafox, he's talking about a gps reset (made through GPS status) which solved the problem. Did you try that specific option in GPS status?
Sadly, I've already tried...arf...I don't what to do.
Maybe I should try with other Motorola phones' owners...

Just to be sure, are you trying to use the GPS without being in "maps" that came with the phone? But on a separate set of installed maps? Except for the link above, I don't see GPS as an issue on the Motorola forums.
If I turn on network nav. and go into maps, my location is off by from two miles to forty miles. If I then turn on GPS it will correct my location within thirty second (time, that is). Turn off network nav., go back into maps and hit location and it corrects within 10-15 seconds using just GPS.
FWIW I just bought and downloaded Copilot live for North America ($5) Shut off data and ran on GPS -- it loaded very quickly. Of course it's pulling maps off the SD, but there was no lag in the GPS.
Same issue here.
Bought a defy (made in brazil) today and no gps (endomondo, gps test, gps status).
I already have a x10, and their gps always works.

When I first tried GPS on my phone it took so long to "kick in" I thought the phone was broken. Finally it did. I later got "GPS status" and it picks the satellites up right away. However, I believe you must have your google maps "Maps" turned on or the GPS won't work in the stock phone.
How much time your gps needed in the first time? I im trying right now.
In google maps: My location: Accurate to 70 meters (wireless method).
In endomondo: Locating satellites
In Gps Test: In view 1, In Use 0, Gps On (yellow), Accuracy (feet): 0
After about 1 hour, i am getting 2 sats in view on Gps test, but no one in use.
After hours, i am getting 2 sattelites in GPS Test (sometimes 3). But the color of the bars (SNR Color, according the documentation) is white. Not working...
On my xperia, i am getting 9 sattelites (yellow and green).
Make sure you're not on WiFi

My previous phone was an xperia x1 too, yes GPS was much much better. More than a issue with defy it looks like Android is not so brilliant in dealing with GPS.
I need long time to get my position fixed (could it be the lack of QuickGPS??), and it seems many apps can't correctly display the satellites while the device is searching for a fix.
It gets better if i have google maps app opened in background.
Finally got gps working.
I made a few things (not sure what work...)
- Factory reset
- Install a bunch of softwares (Endomondo, GPS Test, WisePilot, TrackerBooster)
What work (i think)
- Leave my phone with TrackerBooster and GPS Test turned on, in open space (a bench on a park) for about 45 minutes (airplane mode off, wifi on and connected, 3g on). In the early minutes, GPS Test only find a few satellites (4 or 5). Suddenly 10 satellites appear and change the color to yellow and green (it was white). Working!
Thanks all!
ps: Defy is better than X10. Even motoblur is better than TimeScape (IMOHO).

When i read "xperia" i thought about x1, anyway, i agree defy is better than xperia (them all) except for GPS. With my x1, in open spaces, i got 10-11 satellites in just 2 minutes (without QuickGPS) and it needed about 20 seconds when QuickGPS was working.

[Q] GPS freeze Ginger Villain 2.1

Hi all,
I have a problem with my GPS signal.
Normally (pre rooted era) I could switch on the GPS and get a fix. No freeze whatsoever.
With Gingervillain 2.1 I switch on the GPS and check the signal. I see several bars before the signal freezes. Tried flashing different radios but this made no difference. Also tried several radio / ril combinations same result.
At this moment I found a sort of workaround by switching on Google navigation and then switch on GPS. Check the signal with GPS Status and u usually get a fix within a minute (even indoor). After that I switch on Navigon to start driving.
It is not really a problem this way but what can I do to solve this problem. When I look in the threads (CM7 / Gingervillain) the GPS problem should be solved. Are there more people with this problem? What could be the best solution.
I have CM7 and no issues. I don't know what the problem is. Could be the rom, could the radio, could be other problems. It is too vast really. The only way you could fix it is to try different roms and see which one works. But like you said its not much of a problem.

Thanks for the reply,
Yesterday I switched to the latest radio (32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08) and RIL (2.2.1003G).
As long as I start Google Navigation first and then switch on GPS no problem. This morning I drove to work with Google and Navigon switched on, no problem (30 min drive). Even switched off Google and Navigon kept the signal, no problem.
Whenever I switch on GPS first it looses track somehow. Can't figure it out..
Is there some keep alive GPS flow in Google Navigation?
No. When you turn GPS on its just on and idles. It needs to be used but I don't get how it doesn't work right. Grab an app from the market, GPS essentials I think and see what you can do with that.

With GPS essentials it works, better than GPS Status (think it has monitor function only). Think it has something to do with keeping GPS alive
Tried it from work - home, worked fine. Went shopping same procedure...
Might also be engergy savings mode in Ginger Villain. Batterydrain is less with it I noticed.....
With this working... perfect ROM!!!

NEXUS 7 2013 Big GPS SOFTWARE issue / no Fix

after a loooot of search on the internet and after reading all the older posts here i am desperate and i am opening here a thread. Thats my last hope that someone found a solution to this issue.
So 6 months ago i bought a nexus 7 2013 wifi for a car project. i wanted to use it as multimedia and navigation system. After i modified my car (see pic. / contact me in case of interesst or advices)
https://postimg.org/image/exyp7da37/
everything was nice i was happy with the result. The problem starts when i wanted to use the navigation...
The device cant find a satelite, searching for gps signal is the only message i see. 9/10 the gps cant find satelite. One or two times it found the signal after one hour or more..
My thoughts:
1. The case is causing this issues... the tablet charges wireless and is kept in place with magnets so i can remove it in a second.
I am trying with the "naked" tablet outside with directly sky view... no change.
2. The backcover is modified with 2 small metal plates in order to get magnetizied with the magnets installed in the car dush.
i tried an other backcover.. no change.
3. I tought it is a software issue.... i was using Cyanogenmod 13 with elemental X... installed the original software / Android 6. Without any other installations only GPS Status... still no signal.. I installed android 5.0.1 ... still no signal.
4. i used various of settings changes and apps ( GPS FIX, GPS Doctor, GPS Status) ... the gps android settings are the the most accurate level. Still no change..
created the data/gps/ folder with the permissions rwxrwxr-x. Still no change.
After all that and after reading that there are many people out there with the same problem i thought thats a hardware issue.
5. Thats why i bought an other one (used)... before buying it i made sure that the tablet will find a satelite in GPS Status... i went to the sellers house.. and it did (with wifi off). I went back home i tried again and it did... i was so happy.. i wiped my storage flashed CM13 with ElementalX again ... i opened the Nav App (Sygic)... Everything worked like a charm... i was so happy i finally have gps in my car. I visited a friend stayed there 5 hours went back home... Navi still works.
I took the tablet in my home and wanted to make a restart for some reason... After restarting , tablets gps was dead again... and still looking for a solution..
i am 100% it is a software issue. in case there is someone out there with a solution i would really appreciate it.
I'm kinda on the same boat.
My trusty Nexus 7 2013, that has been through a lot of display changes due to my clumsiness. Few days ago it decided to kick the GPS boat for reasons.
It used to work just fine, without any software tricks or anything. Used to work beautifully without wi-fi (even though I tethered from my phone, many times I travelled to places without connection) with a 8-10m precision.
Now it's spotty, taking from 2 to 280 seconds for the first fix, and precision floats between 10 and 150m (which is unbearable).
Using GPS Status & Toolbox, I can see the A-GPS does it part guiding the tablet on where are the sattelites at (I see around 22 sattelites), however the tablet has a real hard time connecting to them, most of the time staying at a solid 0 connections. My phone (Moto G5 Plus) connects within' seconds to the sattelites with pinpoint precision.
When the tablets manages to fix, it only connects to a couple (5 or 8 out of 22) sattelites, thus not so precise.
I am guessing the heat might have damaged something, but I'm not also 100% sure it ain't a software issue. I flashed the sole GPS fix, but it didn't help at all. I tried every software trick on the book, but nothing. I flashed several ROMs but it didn't make even a dent.
It seemingly gets better if I keep it connected for a good while. I tried letting it overnight with the GPS connected, and it worked fine the day after at any time (between 5 and 20m precision). However it was dead again the next day.
I couldn't find anything regarding a GPS antenna for this device, it's almost like it doesn't have one... I fiddled with the Wi-Fi antenna, which has 3 pins (one I guess is for bluetooth?), but it didn't help with GPS. Bluetooth (I use an OBD2 scanner that sends too many data per second, and I still can play music through bluetooth just fine) and Wi-Fi (Speeds and latency are optimal) are great.
I can't help but think this device doesn't have a GPS antenna, and whatever it uses for an antenna has failed or is now faulty.
Have you ever managed fixing yours?
