Before I get flamed I tried searching but the function is saying temporarily out of order try back in 5 minutes. Have been trying all day, just gonna ask now. Sorry.
I am running a basic deodexed 2.2 rom. I cannot update my vvm due to my custom rom. Can anyone point me in the direction to get the new vvm apk or zip. I am getting annoyed with the icon and would love to not have to turn my bluetooth in my car off to check VM. Any help is greatly appreciated.
No guarantees that this will work, but it works for me. Also, if you brick your phone, not my fault. Flash this in recovery
That above update has a superuser update in it to. And if you want to do it the easy way, extract that above zip, and just push the sprint_VVM.apk to /system/app/
I always prefer to just push apk's rather than flash a zip from recovery, but maybe that's just me
Fantastic! I had to remount first, but pushing the contained APK worked perfectly. Thanks for the tip.
Dumb question, but I have always wondered how to "push the apk" and all that mess. Any tutorials or tips on stuff like that? I always just flash anything I need to, and get lost when it comes to ADB

I have been driving myself crazy trying to get this to work, and after almost 6 hours of no luck, I ve finally just had to ask.
Im basically trying to remove a "feature" of a ROM and add it to another ROM, but without using metamorph. On Clays Reremix of CSDI, he has this little android guy that is in the background on the dialer. Im wanting to move that file over to the original CSDI ROM, but I just cant figure out exactly which files will need to be moved. Is that file stored in the "Phone" apk? Is it just a matter of swapping that apk with the original "phone" apk found in CSDI?
And, Im trying to add the launcher from a theme called Android Plus and move it over to CSDI. I was successful one time in moving the little android dude to the dialer screen, but I havent been successful in changing the launcher ( it always ends in a fc loop after getting past the Google setup). It seems that everytime I sign the zip and flash when Im done, that even with swapped apks, the ROM stays the same.
Is it even possible to accomplish what Im trying to do, or am I simply too much of a n00b to be able to do it?
The easiest thing to do is to push both files using adb. Take both files from Clay's rom and put them where you can find them, plug in your phone to the usb, and use the command:
adb push C://*location*/Launcher.apk /system/app/Launcher.apk
and
adb push C://*location*/Phone.apk /system/app/Phone.apk
That will erase the original launcher and dialer and replace it with the new ones. If you don't know how to use adb, find the thread in the development section and follow that. It's not hard to do.
Or, you can use an app called system app backupper. Backup the apps you want from clays rom, and restore them on csdi.
Awesome! Thanks alot for your help! Btw, Im from Tampa myself. I ve been in Germany for 8 years now. Nice to know we still got the helpful people! j/k
???
If the dialer your talking about is before the call is connected, it's in the Contacts.apk.
thanks for your help!
Thanks RichieDaze, glad I scrolled down...
so i have apk files from the stock rom that i wanted to install, i try installing them but i get an error saying application not installed, any ideas what i can do, im trying to install htcfacebook, htcstockswidget, and htcnewswidget, thanks!
I have the same thing, I think they need to be signed or something any one know how to do that?
Might need to be pushed thru adb or they can be signed and flashed yes
Oh so you should do it through ADB only, not directly on the phone with them on the SD card.. Ok I will try that.
belongs in the questions board
my preferred method for installing apks, other than just adb push is
adb install c:\yourapp.apk

Nope that doesn't work you get
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_UNEXPECTED_EXCEPTION]
I got these apks out of the AOSP version of BB v.4. I really want to use them until he gets the wake bug fixed.
anyone know how to push or sign these apks? its my first time on android and im kinda lost lol thanks
any ideas?
I hear HTC apks don't like to be installed..
Have you tried pushing them adb when in recovery instead?

So I've got this notification that will not go away. (clearing does nothing).
When I tap on it, it says it's downloading an upgrade to what appears to be stock voicemail mail. When done, it asks
Code:
This is a system application. Do you still want to replace it?
All previous user data will be saved.
When I hit "OK", I get the standard install approval screen, hit "install", then get bounced to a screen that just says "Application not installed" with just a "done" on the bottom.
Seeing as how I use Google Voice for my voicemail and not sprint, I could care less about the regular voicemail app, but being able to get rid of the notification would be great.
Any help in trying to remove this annoying notification would be awesome.
Thanks!
Just delete the sprint vvm.apk from /system/ and that should do it.
I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried moving the vvm apk out from underneath after the download finishes and the install is about to start, and no joy. I still get "not installed."
Thoughts?
I'm guessing that I have to remove this file using something other than Astro? Keeps telling me that it can't delete files, looks like the permissiosn are read only, and I can't find a way to change the permissions.
You need to be rooted to write to system. Then you can use adb or root explorer.

If you're using a custom ROM Sprint stuff may not update because the developer of your ROM signed it. Check for updates with your ROM developer (website or an update tool), most of the developers have already made their own VVM update from Sprint's release.
Just another hole to cover so we can't root, just a thought.
Same problem here. Renaming the .apk via adb then rebooting did the trick.
Guys, I figured this one out today.
I got the same "unable to install" message when I tried to install the new one. First thing I did, was uninstall the stock one using Titanium backup, but any method should work the same. Then rebooted the phone and tried the install again.
It went through with no problems. Check my sig for info, but I think this should work with any custom ROM.
Also, please note that I had a copy of the install file on my SD card and I accessed it via EStrongs file explorer. Again, I don't think it matters which file explorer you use, but having it on your SD card may be the key.
Edit: I used this link to get the file on my SD card:

Did you follow my previous post?
1) DL the file on the link I provided from another thread on here.
2) Mount your SD as disk drive and click and drag it onto your SD card.
3) Uninstall the current voicemail app on your phone (if you don't have Titanium backup paid version, you will need to use Astro or another app that can uninstall apps from the phone)
4) Reboot your phone.
5) Use a file explorer to find the zip file you put on your phone, and install it.
You should be good to go.

I followed these instructions step by step and I can get the voicemail app to load but it doesn't work. I don't get my messages, I hit the "check for updates" button and get a box that comes up and tells me there was a general error. I've updated my profile and my prl. Please let me know what I need to do to get this fixed. I'm on BS 1.5.
Thanks in Advance

Well, I am not an expert by any means. I can tell you that this worked for me the first time I tried it. By any chance, can you install the old version back on? Or, did you back-up your ROM in any way where you can go back to the way your phone was before you started so at least the old app is on there and working?
If not, hopefully someone can chime in who knows more on the subject.
easiest way of fixing this should be to use SteelH's flashable vvm update zip found on his rom thread here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743781
I think it works on any rom.

I did the following steps and still no go.
1. Flashed SteelH's zip.
2. Updated my profile.
3. Updated my prl.
4. Rebooted.
5. Called my cell and left two voicemails.
I never got a notitication and when I try to check for updates I get a general error. And when I hit the button to change my greeting, a box comes up saying it will connect me with my voicemail, but nothing ever happens.
I found an old version of the voicemail app and tried that and I get the same results. I must be doing something wrong or there is something wrong with my phone.
Any ideas for me to try, would be greatly apperciated.

Sorry - that link will only solve the issue in the OP - how to update to the latest version of vvm (v5.1.0.34), and get rid of notifications that a new version of vvm is available.
You're having a different issue - you're having an issue getting your message notifications. Can't help you with that one.
I just restored back to a version of BS 1.3 I backed up on Monday and my voicemail worked. But I got the voicemail upgrade message so I then flashed SteelH's voicemail zip and it now works perfect. I get my messages and notifications. Now I guess I try to load BS 1.5 again. But that'll wait until another day, I don't have the time now to completely wipe my phone and set it back up.
Thanks for the help.

no prob - and BS 1.5 includes the latest vvm too, so you won't need to use that zipfile again.
edit - just noticed you were on BS before all of this - I guess it was those other steps that messed things up for you.
I don't know what happened. I was working fine until I went to BS 1.5. When I went to BS 1.5 the notification to upgrade my voicemail was gone but my voicemail didn't work, that's when I started not getting my messages or notifications. And then I started trying to load different versions of the voicemail app and trying different things. But I agree with you, it's probably something I did while setting my phone back up after BS 1.5 and didn't know I did it.
Thanks again.

Hey man that worked like a charm!
Thanks!
Okay my phone was refreshed and I had to reinstall all my apps. I can't see google talk in the app marketplace. I also can't find it on appbrain.
I searched around for a while to try to figure out what was going on, but can't find much other information about it.
I doubt the app was pulled or i would have probably heard of it.
Can i get a QR code or link to the appstore or an APK or appbrain?
I wish I knew as well. I ended up reflashing my rom to get it back...
OP.... what you need to do is download a rom and extract it.
go into the folder " sytem" then "apps"
get the talk.apk our and either adb install it or put it on your SD card and use root explorer to move it to the system/apps folder on your phone.
Hope this helps
hmmm why would I need to do this? was it pulled from the android marketplace for some reason? i'm just curious, i'm pretty sure I had to load it on my phone before from the marketplace.
i probably will just end up using another messaging client, because I don't really want to go through all that for an app I don't use very much.
in any case thanks for the advice, i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one who can't find it..
It has been included in every ROM I've installed. Maybe find it in the gapps pack for Cyanogen?
I'm not even rooted... i'm not using a custom rom.. i'm just using the stock sprint issued evo.
I was having issues with the phone and they restored it to factory defaults which made me lose my apps. The last time i rooted was the intial unrevoked (which later was lost with an OTA update)
No idea what to tell you then. Talk is part of the Google apps that are included with the phone. Most every ROM I have installed includes it. Cyanogen doesn't include a lot of these because they aren't allowed to be distributed by third parties and their team is good about sticking within the rules.
If something screwed up you should just factory reset the phone if you only want stock. Better yet, do a proper root and install whatever app you want
http://cyanogenmod-mirror.local.host.name/gapps/gapps-hdpi-20101025-signed.zip. Must be rooted to flash obviously. Do not know if this zip will work with Sense ROMs. It contains all Google apps (Market, Talk, Google Voice, etc.) Good luck. Not guaranteed that this will work. Use at own risk. Do a backup first.

ah i see my problem, i am an idiot. google talk IS preinstalled on the phone. i kept thinking i had to install it, couldnt find it in the market and gave up. i didn't even think to look in the app list on the phone....
that said, yea its about time that i did a proper root. ill have to read up a bit to be sure its easy enough- i have all the OTA updates, and htne ill go for it.
thanks for the replies!
im wanting to do the update to ZVD, mostly to get rid of the notification!
but id rather not have to do a full wipe, and start all over again ( i hate loosing my texts!) but i have twrp and the hotspot mod.
i think i can go back to stock recovery with a recovery image i downloaded, but the hotspot mod is the only thing i need to figure out how to reverse.
ive read to just replace with the stock files, but i dont have the stock files.
any info will help. ive searched, but theres just too much to look through on the update, rcovery and hotspot, that i figured it would be faster to just ask. i was hoping there would be a flashable zip at some point, but doesnt look like it,
thanks for all help!

If all you care to do is get rid of the notification, tap and hold on the notification, tap on "App Info" and uncheck "Show notifications." This will block the update notification.
As far as losing text messages and such, use Helium to back up your device's app data, WiFi settings, Dictionary, Messages, and Call Log. If you use the Helium Server it will create a "backup.zip" on your computer so that after you reset the phone, just install Helium, run the server, and restore the apps. As far as hotspot mod, I have no idea, sorry. Hope this helped anyways. If you have any questions let me know.
