I am trying to add a boot sound to my EVO, but the folder system/customize/resource is nowhere to be found. When I added it and put the "SPC_animation_fianl.mp3" in there, nothing happened. Any ideas?
Oh, I am rooted with CM6. Thanks guys.
From wat I've read audio doesn't work in boot animations on Cm6 :-/

Is it too much to ask for the ability to have a bootsound? I literally can't find anything on accomplishing this on the Dream. Possible??

Im not completely sure but i think the only thing that can sound is your SD being mounted on boot which can play a sound a little bit before the boot animation is over. Which you might be able to customize.
Yes, you can do this. The file MUST be MP3 format and MUST be titled audio.mp3.
This file will go into the /system/media/ folder on the phone itself
Thanks guys. Tribal, i'll try it out and get back. I downloaded an Espresso ROM from KingKlick and it had a boot sound, it didnt use bootanimation.zip; It used a folder with 2 gifs, an mp3 and an xml file to orchestrate everything. Tried it on CM6 RC3 with no luck.
*Edit: No go on audio.mp3 =/
Hero bootscreens do it with a different /system/bin/bootanimation file which tells it to play the .mp3 file there.
Oh man, How I would love to have either the "DROOOOID" sound at boot, or one of the little turrent guys from Portal saying "Is anyone there"
So I found a boot animation I like. I used root explorer to replace the bootanimation.zip in the /system/media folder but it does nothing. The cyanogen boot animation still comes up. Is there something Im missing? Thanks.

That should be the location it needs to be in.
I always used THIS when I first got my EVO. Requires ADB

I appreciate it. Too lazy right now to use adb. LOL. Its not that important, was just curious why it didnt work by replacing it. I guess Im just wondering where it is still getting the stock boot animation considering I deleted it. Lol.
I'm using CM 6.1.2 and replacing the bootanimation.zip works for me. I always use the Froyo boot one I found.

Actually, CM places the boot animation in the system/media folder. I routinely change it to my own with ES File Explorer, which has a "root option" under settings. Simply delete the unwanted zip and copy/paste the new one from your sd card ... reboot ... done.
I have recently rooted my HTC incredible 2 and i have been trying to get a custom boot animation for it. i have downloaded countless apps and even tried methods with the computer all of which have failed. i have been using root explorer to search through my files trying to find bootanimation.zip but the only place i can even find anything titled bootanimation is in the system/bin file and i cannot customize or delete it or i lose my boot animation completely. any ideas on what i can do?

Hope these help. I am sure there are more posted here on XDA and other forums but these are 3 I could think of off the top of my head.
Aosp: rename file to bootanimation.zip and place in system/media
Sense: same rename but place in /system/customize/resource
Reboot
not fixed yet
im having same problem and im looking for some fix in a few days...lol
i think my problem is my firmware...gingerbread 2.3.6, i´ve tried all i guess and i dont get nothing.
past System/media dont have any file with name bootanimation.zip to replace
and when we past some there only 1 bootani... results in my galaxy s i9000.
others just block, with black screen or with animation, but dont pass that.
my phone dont iniciate.
i´m almoust sure u can understand me but...sorry about my bad english.
Does anyone know if AOKP supports boot and shutdown sounds? I put the correct .ogg files in the system/media/audio/ui dir, and no luck.
CLOSE THIS THREAD, problem solved! Wrong place anyway. Sorry!
Wait how did you do it!? I cant figure it out!
So my phone is rooted with Magisk and TWRP, of course.
Long story short I wanted to get the Galaxy S8 fanmade boot animation for my phone. But, since I flashed an One-UI based ROM (Noble 2.3), my device uses .qmg extensions for startup and shutdown.
That's not the main problem though. I got the animation to play flawlessly when powering on and off, but only the shut down sound plays. The startup one doesn't.
Both of the .ogg files are placed properly in their location (/system/media/audio/ui) and they have -rwxr-xr-x permissions. No, setting the permissions to -rw--r--r doesn't change anything. The files are named "PowerOn.ogg" and "PowerOff.ogg". Only the shutdown file is played though, and I don't know why...
I'm pretty sure that I didn't mess with anything else besides the boot images.qmg and the .ogg files and only the poweron one is faulty. No, the audio isn't corrupted at all, it can be perfectly played.
I would just want to know how is this possible since I can't make up a reason... I uploaded a video on how my phone reboots while how i want it to reboot. I also uploaded the PowerOn.ogg file for troubleshooting
Any help is wanted, tysm for reading; if there's some confusing things I can explain again
Nevermind, I tried using a different sound and it worked flawlessly. So sorry for the time bother, seems like it was just the file... :,)
