DroidX Bootsound - G1 Themes and Wallpapers

Is it too much to ask for the ability to have a bootsound? I literally can't find anything on accomplishing this on the Dream. Possible??

Im not completely sure but i think the only thing that can sound is your SD being mounted on boot which can play a sound a little bit before the boot animation is over. Which you might be able to customize.

Yes, you can do this. The file MUST be MP3 format and MUST be titled audio.mp3.
This file will go into the /system/media/ folder on the phone itself

Thanks guys. Tribal, i'll try it out and get back. I downloaded an Espresso ROM from KingKlick and it had a boot sound, it didnt use bootanimation.zip; It used a folder with 2 gifs, an mp3 and an xml file to orchestrate everything. Tried it on CM6 RC3 with no luck.
*Edit: No go on audio.mp3 =/

Hero bootscreens do it with a different /system/bin/bootanimation file which tells it to play the .mp3 file there.

Oh man, How I would love to have either the "DROOOOID" sound at boot, or one of the little turrent guys from Portal saying "Is anyone there"

[Q] Flashable Bootanimation.

Are there any flashable boot animations for the DHD?
and in particular, the droid x boot?
if there isn't could someone please tell me how to change mine to this? with links to the files? or a link to a flashable zip?
You don't need to flash them... just use Root Explorer and drop "bootanimation.zip" in \data\local
For the actual animations just search the Themes section in the Desire HD forum. You can also look in the Themes sections for original Desire as most of them should work too. I'm sure someone will have ported the Droid X one, if not try looking in the Themes sections of the Droid X forum... you get the idea

Extract the zip file for the boot sound as it's the .mp3 you need to use. Bootanim stays as .zip
Reply back know how you get on / if you need any help etc.
Oh, and be sure to press the "Mount R/W" when in the correct folder in Root Explorer. Wont let you change anything otherwise

wow I feel stupid. I was using the temp files from the top of the list in my sdcard XD thank you.
oh wait it didn't work xD I have bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 in data/ local and it doesn't work. i've rebooted twice since they've been there. what else am I doing wrong ?
Try the two files I have attached and see if they work. You will need to extract the zip for the start sound as it wouldn't let me attach the mp3. Also, you will have to rename the other zip from black_bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip. I have loads of them so need to keep the file names different.
Reboot and they should work
Still no luck. even with your files, in data/local with r/w it just won't work? is it something to do with me being on the stock rom, kernel and radio?
I don't know but this is really weird ? could it be a permissions thing? thank you so much for trying to help me though.
it couldn't be that i'm using a mac could it?
No probs man
I've never had a poke around inside a stock ROM for DHD but I expect the files still go in the same place, so it must be a permissions thing as I doubt it would be radio or kernal related.
Silly question I should have maybe asked earlier... you have a rooted phone right? If not none of this will work!
As for a being on a Mac, shouldn't make a difference as you can transfer all the stuff to /data/local/ on your phone... only need a computer to put the files on your SD card if you didn't download them with your phone.
haha yes my phone is definitely rooted, I'm pretty sure I have radio and engineering S-OFF, I had SHIP, now I have ENG, I would really like to know what the problem is though.
would it be possible to fix the permissions ? should I use rom manager to fix them ? or do it manually in root explorer?
If it is a permission problem, rom manager's fix permissions option did not solve the problem.
It would be so much easier just having a flashable zip xD
You could give it a go with ROM Manager yeah.
I must admit, I'm stumped with this! I bet it's something really easy that we're both overlooking!
rom manager didn't work.
it has to be something obvious. I would flash a new rom, but then I need to flash a new radio, because last time I ran leedroid, and android revolution HD, my microphone wouldn't work so I had to restore my backup.
having to do all that just for a boot animation and sound would be such a pain.
Well I'm going to sleep, most likely, and hopefully someone will have worked something out by the time i get back or wake up.
You could push it with adb.

Yeah, that's definitely another option.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Or another option is that your current rom just does not read bootanimation from /data/local/. Try it with custom rom, or put it to /system/.. I do not remember which folder. But look for bootanimation.zip.

I found bootanimation, not .zip but i can't make the system file r/w only r/o
after much trial and error, i found it at last....
@P1xelVandal in case you had not installed any custom ROM then the original bootanimation.zip can be found in the following location:
/system/customize/resource
Rename the original one to bootanimation_bak.zip before replacing in case any error occurs.
And, of course, you have to mount the file system in R/W mode for the changes to take place.. worked fine for me... piece of cake now.
Bump...
I've also just read somewhere that you could try /system/customize/resource/
Let us know how you get on mate
I gave up and flashed a radio and Android Revolution HD. It works fine now. Thank you for helping

android_audio.mp3 and it should go in the same place and rename the original/s

Here's what I want to do

So here is my thing, I want a custom splash screen and boot animation but I'm running into a problem. Everytime I try to flash it using
fastboot flash splash1 evosplash1.rgb565 I get the error (failed: no remote access) or something like that.
I found out it's because my hboot is 2.10......
but I am unable to downgrade from what I have seen because my readout from adb shell is that I have the 40000 block build or something like that and because i have that build I cant downgrade and because I cant downgrade I cant have a custom splash page and boot animation.
Any ideas?
It isn't at all true that you can't have a custom splashscreen or boot animation. You can either find a flashable zip of the boot animation you want to use and flash it via recovery, or you can manually place it in the correct folder and set permissions using Root Explorer. The location of the boot animation is dependent on the rom. If it isn't flashable, it needs to be named exactly bootanimation.zip in order for it to work once you've put it in the correct folder. I usually just rename the old one and leave it there in case I decide I don't like the new one.
Splashscreens, and I might be wrong about this because I've never used a custom one, can be loaded as a PC36IMG in the bootloader. I believe there are a small handful of them that can be flashed in recovery.
Hopefully someone that actually knows something about splash screens will chime in, since I'm afraid I may be giving out bad information when it comes to that.

Thank you for your insight. The issue I'm running into is I can't figure out how to get into the folder to place the boot animation. With the hboot being 2.10..... it won't let me change anything in there.

Your hboot has nothing to do with it, you need to boot into the rom and do it there. You can use Root Explorer to copy/cut and paste the boot animation into the correct folder. Rename the existing one to something else, you'll need to mount as r/w by tapping the button near the top that says "mount r/w". After you've moved the new boot animation and renamed it properly (if needed), you will need to set the permissions to match the old one. You can do this by long pressing the file and selecting permissions from the list. Then mount as r/o the same way you mounted r/w. When you've finished, reboot.
You should see your new boot animation
If you don't have Root Explorer, I would suggest buying it - it will come in handy. You can also use EStrongs and I believe File Expert has an option for root access. In ES File Explorer, you have to enable root functions in settings. I don't know if you can mount r/w through the app and it may not operate the same as my directions, but it's free. For root file actions, Root Explorer is just more polished in my opinion and well worth the money.

Well, that 'man,' is actually a lady, and a good one too. Working on another gold star.
And it needs to be SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3 [yes, its case sensitive.] And try renaming the animation to just bootanimation. Are you on an aosp or sense rom?
Sorry mam, not man lol. Wish my ol lady was that technical lol.
I'm on sense, I didn't know if I shuld try to rename it to just bootanimation.zip or not since the rom's animationwas spc_anmation.zip and it was all in lowercase as well. I'll try the upper on the audio though.

Well with gaining the skill, comes time, lol.
Well its been since 'nam since I ran sense, though I keep the kingdom rom as my sense rom. For the audio, with the SPC in caps, that should work, and the same for the just bootanimation.zip as well.
Ok, so the mp3 wasin format SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3 and I set the permissions the same as the bootanimation. Could it be because it is just the audio file, not a zip with the text file in it?

Well the audio file is just that, just the file .mp3. It may have been because they weren't formatted/named correctly.
So here is where I am. I have the boot animation working flawlessly and have successfully changed it to 4 different animations without problem. Sound is still the problem. Here is what I have tried.
SPC_bootanimation_final.mp3
spc_bootanimation_final.m3
SPC_bootanimation.mp3
spc_bootanimation.mp3
SPC_bootsound_final.mp3
spc_bootsound_final.mp3
SPC_bootsound.mp3
spc_bootsound.mp3
I have it in the same folder as the animation (system/customize/resource) with the same permissions (Readwner, group, others...Write: group)
I'm at a loss, everything should work but still no sound.
You should have SPC_animation_final.mp3 in the system/customize/resources folder, and nothing?
Nope, nothing. I have played the file just to make sure it has sound and it does. I also tried moving it to system/media as android_audio.mp3 as was suggessted in another thread with nothing. Now boot sound worked with the stock rom, aybe from flashing it, it changed the audio setting maybe? I'm gonna try and change that real quick and see if it works.
Ok so I'm not getting it, all sounds are completely up. The only thing I ca figure is maybe somewhere in the rom it has been blocked/disabled for sounds at bootup. That's the only thing I can think of.

[How To] Boot Sound

I had started a thread asking for help on how to do this. So since its pretty much confirmed it works on most phones even when you didnt realize it was installed Ifigured it was time to give it a proper [How-To].
Disclaimer:I am not responsible if you break, brick, hump, throw against wall or any other action you do to your phone. By using this script you agree anything that happens is your own noobtastic fault. Any attempts at blaming me for anything other than this being fantastic will result in you being pointed and laughed at.
If you are using BACKSIDE/IHO or have already installed the script dont I REPEAT DONT run the script again. Doing so makes multiple instances of the commands and will stop the bootsound from playing. If you run the script more than once you will have to delete somethings to get it to work. SO be warned DO NOT RUN THE SCRIPT IF YOU HAVE ALREADY OR ARE USING BACKSIDEIHO ROM
The ability to play boot sounds is not activated in CM7 based roms. You have to run a script that will enable this function on CM7 based roms. I remember somebody posting this a short while back but it wouldnt work for me. Apparently the sound file I was using was not named properly.
I found a tutorial on CMforums about how to do this. Tested it and everything works great. Several people have tried this on Froyo roms and not have it work. Also it appears on some phones it just wont work at all.
This is what you do.
1. Download this shell script here bootsnd.sh
2. Place it on the root of your SD card & then open Terminal & type the following
su
cd /sdcard
sh bootsnd.sh
3. Now by using a file manager program with R/W (Read/Write) go to the /system/bin in your phone & make sure the file has transfered over! It should say BOOTSOUND & have permissions set to rwxrwxrwx! for this I use Root Explorer or you can use File Manager once you have selected R/W
4. Before transferring your sound file over rename it on your pc, android_audio and make sure it is a .mp3 file. Transfer the sound file from your pc to the root of your SDcard. Now move your sound file you want to play when the phone boots to /system/media of your phone & rename it android_audio you will have to be in R/W mode! Typically fifteen seconds is plenty long and just perfect, however anything over 30 seconds will get cut off.
5. Reboot & enjoy your new BOOTSOUND B)
I dont take credit for this and I am just adding the info here, if you wanna give thanks make sure you go here as well & say thanks to Colpophage for his help on this topic - say thanks here

Back out to /system now open build.prop in text editor mode, look for this text.
Code:

Delete it from the build.prop and save and exit.
This is optional but recommened.
Reboot phone.
Verify no sound is playing.
Now run the script again and reboot.

if you're using a froyo rom, it's a simpler and different method to get the boot sound.
you need the .mp3 saved as
/system/sounds/poweron/PowerOn.mp3
that's all.
if it still doesn't work, try re-encoding the mp3, or use a different one. sometimes the system's picky about which mp3s it'll use for a bootsound.

If you are using a CM7 based ROM, here's a flashable zip file you can use:
Activate-Bootsound-signed.zip
Boot into recovery and flash after flashing any CM7 based ROM.
Note- If you have made changes to the files mentioned by eollie, you must remove your changes before flashing this.
Thanks Jerry. out of curiosity, is there a size or time limit for these boot sounds? i was thinking of adding the very opening of "Zoo Station" by U2.
I dunno about cm7, but I put a 40 second mp3 as the bootsound in froyo, and it played all the way past when the sd card mounted on the home screen.
The most I've been able to play is about 90 seconds, larger files didn't even play for me.

Remember some Rom cookers have supercharged the boot process. So the best thing to do is use a timer and time how long you have from the flash from the second bootanimation to when the phone does the soft vibirate to let you know its loaded.

Please remove the paid app from your post. It is against the rules. Plus there is a zip created by jerryscript that does this.

Tried all your suggestions.

Something I'm missing or just not possible in this rom ?
Thanks or any advise

[Q] Simple, silly, noob question.

Okay, after all this time I forgot about the cool little notification sound that the EVO comes with. CM7 doesn't have it so I would like to know where I can get it or just what file to take it from on a Sense Rom, thanks my friends.
You can download a sense rom, extract the apk/sound file, then place it in CM7; or if you have a sense rom, flash to it, use root explorer / es file explorer, then locate, copy it to the sd card, then paste it in the correct location.
Look in> /system/media then look in audio, notifications, or ui
I think jacoballen22 is asking if anyone knows the location of the sound file or perhaps even the file name. I could be wrong though....

I see, the part that I do not understand is why are all the CM7 ringers and such .ogg files? and it will not recognize the notification maybe unless I used a trimmer.
I use mp3s for notifications on MIUI, even though MIUI uses ogg files. But MIUI has a different way of choosing ringtones & notifications, which makes it easier.
Where exactly are you moving the file? And are you rebooting afterwards? If the media scanner doesn't run then it may not notice the file.
Edit:
You can also use Zedge to set your notification tones. You may have to move it to sdcard/zedge/notifications to be able to choose it from the app. I'm sure that there are other apps that allow you to choose custom mp3s for notifications.

[Q] Need help with boot animation

Is there anyone who can make this boot animation for our epic 4g? possibly flashable with the sound? would kill to have it... ive tried and cant seem to get it to work... it was created for the evo but we definetly need this one!! Just google modern warfare 4 boot animation or email [email protected] for link.. forum wont let me post it. but its easy to find
permission was given to port if needed but have no idea how.. sorry to be such noob. all credit for this goes to CrAcKaNuG for creating even if it was for evo
thanks to anyone, much appreciated
Should work fine without sound on an aosp rom but for touchwiz you'll need to rename it to sanim.zip and place it in the /system/media. And for the sound if you can find the file for sound take that and make it a .wav and rename it to PowerOn.wav. Should be placed in /system/etc I think... dunno I forget exactly.

thanks
thats what ive been trying to do.. great with flashing anything not so great when it comes to modifying files.. i found the sound its a .rar file
thanks for all the help is there anyway to make this flashable through cwm for fc19 or fc09?
u rock
Its a little difficult if you can find a flashble that is used for bootnaimations then that might work... dunno off hand but you'd need to modify the updater-script which is daunting if you don't know what your doing.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Oh that and the .rar files... hmm its might be too long of a sound because the the PowerOn.wav will only play as long as the original boot sound is... so the sound is pretty pointless. If you get es file manager from the market, open it up and go to the settings and make sure its checked as root browser and that the system is mounted as rewrite then you can go to the favorites and go to the / which is the phone icon or your home. Once there find the /system folder then go to the /media folder then you can place the boot animation you renamed to sanim.zip and overwrite the current one. Reboot and it'll be done.
almost there

LOL no no dont delete those files. The bootanimation.zip that you want which is the modern warefare bootanimation.zip... rename that to sanim.zip and place it in that folder... it will overwrite the one currently in there. As for the .rar i would forget it... its not worth it because it wont play the whole sound anyways.
Yes delete those files, otherwise they may flash screens of the Sprint boot ani.

trying this
the .rar sound for this is just a beat in the backround so really doesnt matter how long it is as long as i can make it work. do i just convert to wav an replace the other .wav? i can always shorten it to save space.
son of a!!
I just realized i updated to fc19 an is just stock rooted... so naturally it said i dont have permission to delete those files.. so i have to go back to fc09 and reflash the rom i had... kenny will the peoples rom work on fc19??

.rar is a zipped folder with winrar.. you have to extract that and depending on whats in that it might work.. other wise no. The sound is too big of a file so what they do is compress it and make it smaller to work. But in our case its not the size of the file but the length of the sound which is only like 10 seconds or so....
gonna try
gonna give this a shot but have to flash a new rom first. i dont think there is anything for fc19 so i guess im going back to fc09.. ive been have problems with the wi-fi staying connected on fc19 that i never had before so might be better off.. i would imagine that would be the fc19 modem?? ya think?
