Home and back button issues - Desire General

Hi my friend got a problem with his htc desire. If i press home button it will send me back to homescreen but with htc logo and loading of homescreen before that, like when you use helixlauncher etc. And the problem with back button is that when i hit the first page he loaded it wont send him back to homescreen but to other pages he visited before like calls and settings. And btw what is the number for extended settings ...*#*#....
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Ok i got that number it was *#*#INFO#*#*

Anyone?

Looks like maybe same problem I got with mine Menu/Search buttons.
Mine Menu button acts like Home and Search acts like Back button.
But if I "hit it fast and soft" then it will work as it should be. Mine guess is the buttons have some glitch and need to be repaired.
Im sending mine Desire in for service and hopes I get it back all in one piece.

This isnt the same, this seems to be a software problem. I guess. (Because of constant loading of homescreen and going further back than only one aplication)

My friend installed Opera Mini and all issues dissapeared. Well, lol.

got the same problem. tried rebooting multiple times, installed Opera Mini as you suggested but the problems still comes up. it's really annoying when I have to wait whenever I want to go to homescreen from any application :/ damn. any clue how to solve this?
it started today, didn't have that problem earlier.

HELP!!! Desire has nystagmus!!!

Ok, to start off, I have an orange branded/unlocked phone brought from grey market in india with Android 2.1. I think its also unrooted bcoz i have never checked it or tried rooting it.
Now for the past couple of days i have been having a strange problem. While running a game, the phone felt buggy and i exited it. Then while switching windows on sense, it wouldnt switch smoothly but jiggle between the windows. Upon hitting the home button it would take me to the center window but remain unresponsive. Upon again hitting the home button it would zoom out to show all the windows. Then, when touching the center window or home again, it would again ziggle between center window n zoomed out view. The only way to stop it would be to take out the battery coz the end button wouldnt work.
upon rebooting the phone ran fine. So left it like for coupla hours. Then when i started using it, the same problem started again.
Can anybody help with this?
Thanx in advance.

Desire back buttom

My Desire from today has had a faulty back button key.
Since today sometimes you gotta press back a 2 or 3 times before it responds.
Anyone else have this happen?
Mine does this too. Always has since day one, kind of annoying but for what its worth I will just put up with it.

Yes suffering the same for about 2 days know.
Me too but not from the day i bought it. It started to happen after a month or so

Same here! Started after a couple of months and Froyo didn't change anything either. At the moment I can live with it. Just hope it doesn't get worse!
i have faulty MENU button. not from begining, i'd say that since froyo update.
basically it works but sometimes nothing happens when i press it. i noticed that it doesn't work when pressed not in the middle of it.
but not always. sometimes it's okey to press it not in the middle and it works.
ometimes when i press it, and nothing happens, and then i press it again the context menu appears instantly on the screen, like it was there already, and starts to disapear slowly. i'm talking about context menu i get on the main screen, the menu with all apps, scenes, add to home, ... options.
hard to tell if it's hw malfunction or maybe some sort of software bug.
How weird! My back button started playing up today and the menu button about a week ago.
I was looking at these forums to check the backup/hard reset procedure, as I wonder whether it's a software problem rather than a hardware fault.
I got insurance so may get it replaced but I dont wanna end up with a SLCD version

I don't believe that it's froyo related as I'm with T-Mobile (stock) so still on 2.1
Edit - My Menu button behaviour is exactly the same, pointing to a software issue.

I understand what you are saying, but I find it hard to believe that we all suffer the same hardware fault at the same time with the same symptoms! Then again, if we all have one of the first batch of Desires, it is possible.

I once had this too.
After I updated to FroYo, it works flawless. But that could only be a coincident.
one person has this issue on stock 2.1 and others on 2.2 so its a varied issue.
My phone was part of the first batch so those with issues should state if it was first batch or not.

Mine was first batch, the fault seems to intermittent.
My back button was playing up yesterday also.
Seems fine today though??
Maybe this is the reason why the producers seem to prefer touch sensitive buttons at the upcoming models. Harder to get faulty buttons from the product line.

there were alot of people who hated the touch buttons on the N1 and prefer the hardware buttons on Desire.
Just done a hard reset - the first since I've had the phone. It appears much better, but I'll only know for sure once I've used it for 24 hours. Have only loaded one application (Linda file manager) in case the issue stems from an app update.
I think I'd prefer touch buttons.
I've got a de-branded Orange Desire running Froyo and I've got the same fault developing with my back button. If it is definitely hardware then these kind of things can only get worse, to the point where it stops working completely.
This started on mine and few days ago. I think its an app, probably an update that is doing it. That's why a factory reset currently it. Any thoughts?

This has absolutely nothing to do with software and it's a hardware semi-fault.
Boot into recovery and select hardware key test, press the button in question many times, you still see sometimes it misses, sometimes it doubles.
I've started experiencing it with the menu button after two months I bought it, now it happens with home too, and it's getting worse. You really have to press hard to have the long press functionality.
Back button is only sporadically doing it, far more the search button.
I'm planning to ask for a warranty repair, but after having had in my hand an slcd one I'm having second thoughts.
If anyone has it back from repair, it would be nice to know what they have done and if the chassis was replaced.

[Q] Strange problem: Suddenly bottom of the screen starts to be tapped repeatedly

Hi,
I got my Galaxy Nexsus today in Asia from a shop.
I start to play with it and from time to time suddenly it without my help bottom of the screens gets tapped repeatedly! pressing home, back and apps list buttons again and again.
I was wondering if anyone else have the same problems and if the best guess is to be a hardware problem (I will be screwed as I bought it from a shop! ) or a software bug (I can wait for an update as mine if 4.0.2).
Cheers,

No problem here.
Try to remove the battery first. Wait one minute.
If it does not work, try to reset the phone (All apps/settings/backup&reset/factory data reset). You will lose everything!
If the problem persists, maybe it is a hardware problem.
Only if Pointer Location is on?
Thanks tigajr,
Can someone enable the "Pointer Location" option from "Developer Options" and play with phone and see if it happens?
I think when it is off from the start of phone everything is fine. But when I enable this feature after a while bottom of the screen gets tapped repeatedly.

[Q] My home button has stopped working completely (help!)

When I plugged out the charger this morning and turned off the wifi my phone suddenly crashed and started to reboot. I put the phone in my pocket and didn't think much about it seeing as this is a very common problem for a lot of people and it usually happens to me once or twice a week.
One hour or so later I pick up the phone to check something on the web and then press the home button to get me back to the home screen. Nothing happens. I press it again. Nothing happens. I have to then press the back button a bunch of times in order to get back to the homescreen...
After testing this a bit more I realize that this behavior doesn't go away, it's permanent, the button just doesn't work any more, which in itself is odd for a software button... Not only that but my lockscreen is gone as well even though it's set to "drag" in the settings and the "minimalistic text" widget on my homescreen sometimes have trouble loading up...
Rebooting the phone does not help.
Does anyone know how to fix this or even know why this has happened?
(ps. the phone is a swedish yakjuxw)

I pulled out the battery and mashed the powerbutton for about a minute, but the problem is still there.

Nope, the device is stock.
I saw a dutch user on a dutch forum with the same issue. a Factory reset solved this for him... Not sure what caused it and it's a bummer if it happens to you but at least it worked for him.
Try using an app that puts your device in landscape mode and see if it works then ans when you switch back to portrait.

Thanks for the replies, but I did a factory reset and it solved the problem.
Had a similar issue when i just got the phone, systemui kept crashing and when i'd reboot none of the soft keys worked - had to wipe and factory reset as well!
Damn. This happened to me too, just spent forever getting stuff on my phone.
Well it looks like I'll be factory resetting...

[Q] Home Key Sticking, Phone Going Crazy

Hello All. I've used these forums many many many times and have never had to ask a question... until now.
I had/have an issue with my headphone jack, and watched/followed a teardown vid to take apart my phone to check if there was anything I could do to fix the issue myself before calling in the big guns. I did not fix the issue, put the phone back together. during the teardown/put back there were no issues, but once I got it back together the home key would not work. I rebooted, no help. I took the phone apart again, checked to see if I damaged anything- saw nothing. Home key still would not work... properly. It is randomly working, but not when I press it. Every few seconds, or every few minutes it will long-press on its own and bring up task manager. My phone is out of warranty, and i'm sure i cannot afford to send it in to be repaired. Does anyone know if this is a software or hardware issue? I know it's my fault and I don't care about the headphone j ;ack anymore. I just need my phone to stop randomly opening the task manager. I installed a softkey home button app just so I can get to homepage without banging the back button (which still works, as does the menu - the homekey will sometimes bring up the menu as well) a million times. I would like to fix the issue, but at the very least i can live with disabling the home key and using softkeys. will rooting help? right now i am backing up my stuff so that I can do a factory reset. If that doesn't work I will need some advice, and I know you genius' have a few cents worth. PLEASE HELP ME!
Thanks in advance.
Replace home key pad...
It's really the only proper fix for your issue...g
