Hey everyone......has anyone figured out why alot of people's phone show as unknown number when looking in the status menu while using cyanogenmod?
I've tried entering it manually - after it reboots its unknown
i've called tmobile to have it pushed to my phone - no luck
I just rooted and installed cyanogen on my fathers mytouch slide and his comes up no problem.
Do I need to try a new sim?
for someone who knows alot about tmobile systems, I can tell you there are only two ways that I'm aware of to edit that number. one is to have it sent to your phone via an ota from t-mobile... can take up to two hours but is generally quick. tell them to submit the msisdn to the sim. the other is to pop your sim into a blackberry and go through the options and change it.
This is a known issue for the 2.2 builds, doesn't happen to everyone, and has happened even with it known that a number is in fact on the sim card.
The latest Cyanogenmod rom has a workaround for this, where you can enter it into Settings > Call Settings > Additional Settings.
Also, I believe this belongs in the Q&A section if I'm not mistaken, this is a development thread.

I've tried several SIM(non VZW) cards which all work in other phones and I can't change it to GSM because it throws "SIM not inserted" errors. Any ideas? I am in the process of s off and I'm going to try some custom roms but I don't see any indication that will fix my problem.
According to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404997
It says that I put the "unlock" code that someone generates/looks up from my IMEI number, not my SIM lock code or PUK, correct?
If so, does the fact that I haven't gotten a code and used it the reason it gives the error above.
edit - Downgrade, hboot 97 with the old ass 4.xxxx CWM, gonna pop the 6.x touch on here then drive some custom ROMs around. Any recommendations on GSM data compat ROMs? I'm mainly using this as an at home device while my g/f uses my S3. She is waiting on a replacement phone and needs a phone. I only need an Android device to browse the web in bed and read Kindle on, but GSM data would be nice for the few minutes I am outside each day.
You can use ic tazz Rom or miui v4 which is what I'm using. UKB is alright but I had some problems

The tutorial for Rooting and all these ROMs present in android development section, are they the same for the T-989D Canadian version? Flashing them would work? I'm tried searching but it would just bring up roms based on T-989D. Just need a quick confirmation before I root and flash. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that if something can be flashed on T989 (T-Mobile), it can be flashed on T989D (Telus/Koodo). I understand that the are just some small differences wrt access to download mode and recovery. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2079776
btw, I have a T989D on Koodo

Short answer is yes! Everything you will find here is working perfectly fine on the canadian version.
So go ahead and root/flash away!

I have a T989D on Koodo which I've been messing with quite extensively, and yeah, everything is basically the same. The download/recovery mode linked above is the only major difference.
One thing of note, if you end up messing up the device and need to fully reflash from Odin, the t-mobile stock may not work. I tried over and over to recover from what was essentially a brick (ultra, ultra slow) and it just stayed that slow, even though it did seem to boot and connect and everything. It was totally unusable, however.
I found a different one that did work however, I can't seem to find the post anymore but I'm sure you'll be able to get it if you need it, there seem to be others out there with the same name, but not quite the same filesize. That shouldn't really matter as you'll doubtless go back to a custom rom anyway, the point is just to get you back to something that works.
For reference, the name of the one that worked for me is "SGH-T989_UVLH1_Stock_Odex_zipaligned_signed.zip" and it's 422 MB. This post seems to have a Koodo stock zip as well as the T-mobile one, it's about 100MB less but again, that really shouldn't matter so long as it's Koodo.
Hopefully you'll never need to use it, but I just wanted to let you know that even if you have to recover and some files don't seem to be working, keep trying, because the correct ones are out there! Just may need to search a bit for 'em

A few more things SGH-T989D owners may want to be aware of:
1) This is an excellent resource: [ROM][Stock]T989UVLI4 (4.0.4) ♛ T989DTLLE4 (4.0.3) ♛ T989DTLLG2[ODIN][TWRP/CWM]
2) You might want to search and replace all "T989" with "T989D" in build.prop
" " replace all "TLLG2" with whatever radio your new ROM is using.
If you're on Koodo you might want to assign that to the ro.carrier property
3) If you've got a data plan with you might want to search the web for your carrier's apn info and insert it into "Settings|Wireless & networks|Mobile networks"
Note: This stuff is optional in the sense that your stuff is probably going to work if you don't make these changes. I haven't always updated all this after switching to a new custom rom, but I did notice that I showed up on the Telus network as a T989 as opposed to a T989D on the Koodo network. Really they're the same network but ... I don't know. Maybe I just over think things... I do like the fact that when I plug my phone into the computer or go to the play store or whatever that my phone reports as what it actually is and what radio it uses etc. I don't really care that much as long as my stuff works and I have access to apps that are appropriate for the hardware I'm using. YMMV.
Note2: Most of this info can be gleaned from your stock rom's "CSC" folder and build.prop file. When I have a little more time I'll write this up so its more understandable for those new to flashing Roms. Just wanted to mention that there are a few other tiny, nearly insignificant differences btw the T989 and T989D so that the OP and/or others can address these points if they choose to. At least not be surprised if it looks as though they're using data on a network with a different phone.
Note3: Maybe the only thing that matters is an imei number from your SIM. I don't really know. Be glad to be "told" by anyone that knows. I just know that these things are different even if they don't make a bit of difference in practice.
Re:Koodo SGH-T989D
Hello I'm new to posting on the forums, sorry If I've missed the answer to this question already!
I have a Koodo SGH-T989D that I got in September, before that I was using a non smart flip phone . So I'm quite new to this whole rom business, but even android/ smart phone os in general.
I've been able to flash many roms in the past couple months and have a good understanding of what it is i'm doing. Never had an issue I couldnt fix myself actually, so I've never made an account.
This latest problem has me puzzled though, I've totally lost data connection on my s2x while using any radio. I use SGH-T989D_TLLG2_Koodo_radio but I tried UVLI4 just to see.
However I did change a few things up from my usual routine to flash 4.2.1
1: changed twrp to 2.4.1.0 from 2.2 cwm flashable zip
2: moved all my zips to sd card and formatted internal memory(to eliminate possible issues)
Before this I was using twrp 2.2 and only doing a clean install, not formatting internal sd without any issues or instability.
I've been on [4.2.1 | 4.2.2] AOKP :: jb-mr1 :: build 3 and very impressed with it, except this one issue.
In the thread there is a post that refers to getting data working with koodo, so I think its an apn/proxy setting. I just am not sure where I would have to change these settings.
Just restored a recent nandroid backup and everything works fine.
Can anyone help me out, any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Check here for Koodo APN settings: http://koodomobile.com/en/on/switch2koodo-step-3-c.shtml
Go to settings > wireless and network, more... > mobile networks > access point names > then hit your options button > New APN > enter the details found on the page linked above.
Hope that solves it for you.
Re:Koodo SGH-T989D
Thank you so much, worked right away!
The reason I didnt just look up koodo apn settings is because I had no idea what they were.
And Until now I've never had an issue.
Is this something to do with aokp 4.2 or is it because I formatted my internal storage?
Since mid December I've tried out about 5 or 6 roms just to see how they compared to stock. And all I have to say is wow!
Thank you to all those who make this possible, it really is a great community.
I was on stock koodo rom and unrooted until december because my charge port stopped working after like 3 months...? So I went looking for info and I was brought here, haven't looked back since.
When to check for proper apn info?

Ususally associated with radio upgrades; but rather than get too particular, its good practice to check the apn info after any ROM upgrade. If you think about it, any of the hercules upgrades are going to be the same across the board for any given update. Where they're different is where we want to pay particular attention. In this case, carrier specific information.
So i flashed a new os and my phone because of a mistake i made and in that the programs kept saying it was a verizon model and anyways i flashed the os on it and it was working but i couldnt make calls i checked my phones identity and my number says unknown and my network says unknown and when i make calls it will say verizon wireless or error then it will connect me to some ladie if i flash a sprint rom on my phone would i be able to reactivate i or should i talk to the ladie thanks everyone who helped with my previous problems much appreciation to the people who take there time to help
Hi, if you on the sprint lg optimus g (ls970) then only flash ROMs built for the sprint optimus g. You might be able to fix this. I would flash (install) a stock based custom ROM. I have always had good luck with this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468979. The developer is quick to answer questions and updates. Follow it's guide for installing the ROM. Don't skip any steps. That should get you back up and running. I hope this helps.

Hey all,
The tutorial I used to install the ADB prompted me to run "adb devices" when the device is connected to make sure it's working, and that the serial number of the device should show up. ADB definitely works, as I have rebooted my device and put it into recovery mode from adb; however, the serial number showing up does not match that behind the battery (have attached pics).
I tried doing "adb devices" on an old mytouch 3g slide which I have rooted and flashed CM onto, and the serial number that came up matched the one behind the mytouch 3g slide's battery.
So, questions are:
1.) Does the T999L specifically not show the serial number, but instead some other number related to the phone, when one runs "adb devices?"
2.) is it possible the previous owner of my phone did some sort of modding before returning it, effectively changing the Serial number? (i have also attached a picture of the recovery screen, which seems to be running a clockwork mod based recovery...still new to this, but don't think that comes standard on it?)
3.) If my serial number has been changed by a previous owner, is there a way to change it back, but more importantly, should I even worry about it? things seem to be working fine enough.
While I have used xda forums a couple times, this is my first post a registered user. I have watched the (very entertaining) noob video and looked for my answer, but having not found it, am posting my question in what I believe is the correct forum.
Background on the phone/situation:
I'm doing the research to flash a custom ROM onto my T999L, which I bought unlocked and used after for only a couple days for $300 bucks from a local phone shop near my apt in NYC. Currenly in India, and phone works perfectly using an Indian Carrier's Sim (vodaphone). Running the Stock ROM, which restricts using the phone as a hotspot unless you have T-mobile's stupid plan, so I want to flash to get around that.
Seems like the first step to flashing is to Root the phone, do a full Backup with a Nandroid, and then do the flash...to do this I need Android Debugging Bridge (ADB), which I have succesfully installed...just was curiously about this descrepancy I noticed though.
If anybody has suggestions on a Rom to try for the T999L, let me know! I'm thinking trying to flash the Energy HD 2.0 ROM if that works for the T999L, but the website I found out about that from is dated (top hit when you google best roms for galaxy s3, a cnet post from October 2012)
Thanks in advance!
New developments
So after further dectective work last night, i realized even though my phone was still network locked to Tmobile when I got it used (the shop I bought it unlocked it for me), it had already been rooted (it has the Super User app), even though it's running stock rom.
I suspect that some sort of modding had been done by the previous user that changed the Serial Number stored internally as the evidence points to above. Is it important to change it back to match the one on the sticker before I try flashing a custom ROM?
So no one has any thoughts on this? Have any other T999L users experienced what I describe above? Could someone try it quick on theirs and see what happens?

Help. I have an unlocked ls990, I am with MetroPCS and I have a metropcs sim card in the phone. On every single rom I've tried I cannot get any service at all. All of them say "no sim card detected" and when I look in the settings, it says I'm connected to Sprint. I get a "1x signal" and cannot make any calls ot texts. I can't seem to find any info anywhere about my problem
I first tried the *#*#DATA#*#* and tried to switch to LTE/GSM it said "searching for service" for a second but it just reset itself back to LTE/CDMA (PRL)
I then tried to look for APN settings. There was no option to select it. It wasn't even in the menu.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?
Bump.
Really need help
I'm having the same problem right now. Can't get fix either!!!
Those Lollipop ROMs are aosp?
Sprint has not released Lollipop for G3
I fixed my device... I used CloudyG3, works like ah charm.
I have the G3 Sprint version LS990 with the same problem. did you flash baseband? which one?
Thanks
Just curious. Maybe a noob question, but what would flashing a different baseband do?
How can we enable GSM on aosp roms for LS990?. There are very nice roms here but not GSM. it just keeps switching between gsm and cdma.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I didn't want to make a new one with this already here.
I'm having the same issue. I have a Sprint ls990 but I rooted and went to Straight Talk. It was a pain, but I finally got it working on GSM for the last 10 months, so I know it's possible. I've been running CloudyG3. I have been having issues with the internal memory and I wanted to update to Lollipop anyway so yesterday I tried flashing new roms (I've tried BlissPop and OctOS). I'm not getting any service. I wrote down my old APN settings and tried them with no luck, and got a different set of APN settings from Straight Talk (not sure why there would be 2 different settings?) but no luck with them either.
I tried starting from scratch so last night I wiped everything, formatted the memory, and installed my nandroid that I took before I started all of this. Today all I've done is flash BlissPop and Gapps, still no service.
If anybody could offer any help I'd greatly appreciate it. I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous.
Edit: I wanted to update this in case there's anybody else having the same issue. I flashed Dirty Unicorns version 9.1 and my service came back. The only thing I can think of is that that rom is compatible with the Sprint ls990 and being unlocked for GSM. I'm sure there's somebody that knows more about it that can explain it better.
