4G settings - Desire General

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this but it's possible to get to 4G settings as well as "Device Administrator Settings".
If you install Choice Dialer+ and say "help" on launch it provides a long list of everything on the phone that can be run through voice commands.
4G settings and Admin settings are on that list so if you say "4G settings" it'll load a menu I've never seen before which allows you to turn 4G on.
Well, actually it doesn't, I suppose because it can't, but hey.
Thought someone might be interested

How do I put a VPN shortcut on my 'home' screen?

Hi,
I am currently using a VPN to get into my network & Then accessing my data that way. However to get to it in Gingerbread, I have to hit menu, then settings, then wireless, then scroll down to VPN, then click on my VPN, then put my password in & hit connect.
It would help a lot to be able to just click on my VPN link on the 'home' screen. I cant figure out how to get the shortcut there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rich
I just tried and you add a shortcut to your home screen, just as you add a widget.
I dont see anything related to a VPN within the shortcut menu or widgets. Any ideas on how to do a shortcut for the VPN?
Tried anycut from the market?
Sent from an Epic in the sky.
Thanks, Anycut might do the trick, of course there is no VPN listed. Is there a way to determine what processes are running in Android? If i could find the VPN process, I could probably get it going.
I believe you can achieve this with Tasker. I know its a paid app but its an option.
As a side note, how did you manage to get tour vpn to work? Are you using ddwrt by chance? Since getting this phone I could no longer vpn over sprints network due to firewall issues. From what I found online if you ask sprint for a static IP it fixes the problem but they charge you a monthly fee. It used to work fine on my old HTC hero.

We use L2TP/IPSEC PSK at work though Sonicwall, and it works great.
I don't have a static IP on my account. Works fine from 3g or my home WiFi.

I am using a Zyxel firewall & L2TP also. It works fine but... sprints lousy service seems to stall out, requiring me to re login to the VPN. Yesterday with 1 bar, I was logged into the VPN but there was not enough 3g to actually use any data, but enough to stay logged in for 2 hours & not get any emails.
It works fine & I suspect if i had better 3g (or verizon) it would work OK.
I was using DDWRT & OpenVPN with CM7 on my Evo 4g & it worked but I switched to a new router.
Yeah, missing emails is never good.
We don't have an Exchange server at work (not cost effective enough to make it work properly across 10 locations), so I'm able to access my email with K9 via IMAP or POP3.
It's strange that it worked with one Sprint phone, but not reliably with another. Has data service had a general decline in your area?

You should try vpn show. You can find it in google play.
Check the "Launch VPN" app on Google Play
Sorry to revive an old thread. I was looking for this as well and found a way. Just adding if anyone searches for this sort of thing.
Add a shortcut to home screen, select settings, then look for VPN.
This works in my HTC ONE on 4.2.2
I use NFC Task Launcher on my Samsung Galaxy S4.
The following could be a little bit different depending on your phone's make and model and rom type. I did the following.
WARNING: I am not responsible for any damage made to your phone or anybody or anything else during the reading or by following the acts of this tutorial in any way possible.
Click to collapse
Open up NFC Task Launcher and go through the tutorial.
- In the end you can create you own task.
- When you create a new task just click for NFC.
If you have NFC Disabled, just leave it like that and when it'll ask you if you want to enable it, press cancel. (TIP; if the top bar overlay is bugging with more information, just tap on one of the buttons after explanation to have it's focus come back to the window.)
- Name the task 'VPN' or something.
- Click on the cross (✚) in the right top corner to add an action
- Search for 'Applications & Shortcuts' and select 'Open Activity', then click next at the bottom.
- The application list will load up. Select 'Settings' as an application and the activities list will be updated.
- Choose; 'com.android.settings.Settings$VpnSettingsActivity' and select 'Add to Task' at the bottom.
- Then press the arrow to the right '→' in the top right corner.
- It will say you need to place a tag underneath it. DON'T DO THAT, AS IT WILL OVERWRITE THE TAG. (I hope you still have NFC OFF!)
- Just press the tick mark (✓)
- Now you have at least 1 task in the 'My Tasks' list.
Now, to add this to you're homescreen, do the following;
- Go to your homescreen.
- Add a widget like you would normally do. The name of the widget is 'Run Task', so look for the 'R'.
- There are 3 options there, background color (I personally like the black BG), select Icon (I've chosen the gear icon since its a setting) and select task. In 'Select Task' choose for the VPN task you've made and press 'Done'.
- Now press the task on the homescreen, and it'll open up the VPN list (at least on SGS4 it does).
- Connect to your VPN as you would normally do.
You can even write this to an NFC, but that doesn't make sense, since all it does is open the VPN settings menu, not connecting to the VPN directly.
Sidenote; This app is also handy for making other tasks, such as tweeting your at work, check in at Foursquare, send your boss an email that you're in the office and turn off the sound of your phone all in one task, just by connecting to your works wifi connection or by taping an NFC task.
Now you can easily connect to your favorite VPN easily.

Mobile Network Traffic despite WLAN connected

Hi,
when my HOX is lying near by PC Speakers, i can hear Internet Traffic over EDGE/UMTS excatly all 3 Minutes. (I hope u can understand what i mean)
I´m wondering about that bescause WIFI is active and connected, and i never had this with my DHD.
Due to optimizing Battery life, i disable mobile Network manually when i´m at home and have WIFI connected.
I use ARHD 9.1.0 with stock Kernel and EQS + APM + %Batterycircle + Autobrighness by jotha.
Baseband: 2.1204.135.20
Build; 2.17.401.2 CL89015
Any Ideas whats generating this traffic and why the HOX don´t use WIFI for that?
its normal gsm traffic. like if somebody sent you an sms, you would hear that sound. not sure why it didn't do it with dhd and now does with hox, but either way, shielded speakers are there to solve that problem. as for adapting your current speakers to shield them, not sure if its possible or not though.

Thanks for your Answer, but i don´t hear that Traffic if mobile Network is disabled, so i thinkt it can´t be "normal GSM Traffic".
oh i see what you mean..
might be network location services?
settings>location>google's location service.
i know the location services use wifi as well, but it might use mobile network in conjuction even if connected to wifi.. try disable that and see if it continues.

Thanks again, tested, but unfortunately the traffic is still there
try download osmonitor, might be other apps more specific that can help, but osmonitor should do the trick i hope.
set your screen not to turn off, just for ease..
goto the connections tab, process tab will also be useful and watch it until the noise happens. you're looking for either a process, that jumps to the top of the list when the sound happens (spike in cpu usage), and then does it every time the sound happens, or a connection, that ISN'T your local or external wifi ip address, but also has similar behaviour, ie the connection is created when the sound occurs, and is then gone a minute later.. (the connection should show an app name)
if you find an app that looks like it could be causing it, then try to uninstall it temporarily to see if it fixes the issue. if it does fix the problem, the next step would be to contact the developer of that app to request a fix for it. it could however be a system process causing the problem.
failing the above, you could try the same sort of diagnostics, but with logcat instead. i don't actually know how to initiate logcat, i'm sure a google will tell you how though.
Thanks again! (i´ll hit the Button )
Okay, got that app installed.
Unfortunately the Sound DOES NOT appear all 3 Minutes when the Display is on.
When it starts and i unlock my screen i cant see any new entries in the Connectionstab.
Processes the same, but "Android System" shortly came on Top. (maybe the Display Unlock is the Reason for that?)
BTW: Why i got 2 permanent open Connections?
1. Google Bookmark-Sync (Whois -> Google)
2. Downloadmanager (Whois -> "The New York Internet Company")
Not idea what that could be.

you should be able to set the display to never turn off in settings>display and gestures
i don't think it'll be very easy if even possible to find it if the screens off (the spike would only be there for a second or 2, by the time it's unlocked etc it will have disappeared)
the other connections, first one is probably the google account sync, and not sure about download manager, maybe something got stuck, you could try clearing data for the download app, but to be honest i doubt that they're any problem anyway so probably nothing to worry about
edit: the download manager bit judging by the whois could be an app relating to that? do you have anything similarly named installed?

This is crazy - when the screen is on, the sound isnt audible. It only happens when the screen is off.
In the Connections Tab is only one Connection without my WiFi-IP, and whois shows me its a DNS Server from my Carrier (vodafone).
In the Process Tab i can see that "System" comes up on Top for ca 2 seconds, further no action.
The 2 Connections which stays established:
Clearing the Donwloadmanager Data was a Success... Thanx again.
The Connection to Google from "Google Bookmark-Sync" is still there. Gmail Sync is deactivated in accounts.
I think i´ll give it up and live with it

[Q] how to bypass or get rid of "activation agent"

I put ATT sim card in Verizon note 4, everything seems to be good (I got 3G, no LTE, but that's okay), except the annoying message "the sim card is not from verizon". I checked it, and it was from "activation agent". Does anyone know how to get rid of it? Thanks.

give this a try - go into settings -> applications ->swipe to all tab, this will list all the apps and services, scroll down to 'setup wizard', tab on it and turn it off.(disable).
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the "turn off" (of setup wizard) is grey. Same thing happened to "activation agent". Does this mean I need to root (which is not available right now) first?

Just Force Stop the application. It'll stop showing the annoying message.
Update: just notice that there are two "setup wizard". One can be turned off, one can't. I turned the first one off, but it didn't help, i.e. message still pops up when the phone restarts.

That works, but I hate to do that every time the phone is turned on. Want to find a more permanent solution.

This should help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/disable-knox-ota-root-t2972263
I was able to disable activation agent through this, and havn't noticed any adverse effects.
in adb shell use the following command:
adb shell
pm block NAME_OFTHE_SETUP_WIZARD_APP
then it should be blocked and you won't see it.
I can't find the exact name of setup wizard so you have to find how the app is called in android. something like com_XX_XX
VzwActivationAgent.apk = com.samsung.vzw.activationagent
The defroster works for it as well. I deactivate the little notification and it's app after I switched my phone to cricket wireless
Install Debloater by Gates Jr. and the Samsung USB drivers. Enable USB debugging on your phone. Launch Debloater and it will read all .apk packages. For the S4 you will need to check off the Samsung (and not the Google) setup wizard. Once complete, you will no longer see the Verizon icon in your system tray, as well as the annoying message.

The package and command that worked for me on s8 plus:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sec.android.app.setupwizard
Old thread, sorry, but my old Galaxy S8+ is actually still usable as a WiFi based browser and it has some games and Titanium Backup (phone was rooted). I'd like to use it to play some of those games and browse via WiFi at home with it to save wear & tear on the S20 Ultra. I would really like to know what I can use Titanium Backup to turn off so I don't see the "Activation Incomplete" message.

Samsung galaxy note 8.0 mock locations

Hello my friends, this is a kind of funny? post but i need your help!
I work in a company that provides us a Samsung galaxy note 8.0 this device has its policy settings that way so we cant play with settings etc. (you get an "policy does not allow this action" or something message. It also has a gmail account installed that the IT knows the passwords and username and they are able to see the location of the device through google settings.
This is my last 10 days in the company and i have this arsehole supervisor that calls the IT department and asks them to see my location so he can stalk me. I want to make him a joke so he gets his lesson. Next time he asks for my location, he gets his home!!! (specially pinned to the bedroom of his house ) he is a kind of douche that is very jealous and he will think i hamp his wife :good::good::good::good::good:
i found this nice app in google play (fake gps) but it requires "enable mock location"
i AM able to install apps in the device if i get the apk file in the sd card and then install it from "file manager" app.
What i need is a nice little app that enables the mock locations
i have observed that the settings are locked BUT if you install an app that does the job there is no problem.
for example, the device wont let you disable/enable wifi from the scroll down menu or settings, but if you install an app that does the same thing it wont say "no"
in the same way, if there is an app that "enables mock locations" or a nice guy that can provide me with an apk that does the job i would be greatfull.
thanks in advance!
hello my friends again, not a single answere, i understand that you might think i am the douchebag that wants to hurt an inocent supervisor. Just to let you know, the hole team is getting the faq out of the company because of this ahole. He was one of us untill 1 month ago, but when he sat in the bigger chair he made the hole work concept an agonising experience. We are all moving to other company and just want to give him a little surprise....imagine him calling his "friend" at the it and asking the teams location, and finding out we all are in his house!! Asking for the location is highly illegal, we dont move money or drugs, we are just salesmen! He will freak out and learn his lesson, he wont be able to tell anybody that this thing happened because he will be in trouble for stalking us. We dont want him to get fired though, so we want to give him a freak out moment of "oh ****, they are all at my house? wtf?" and run to his house to find us, then he will call us with a douche attitude, not being able to tell "why the faq your stalked device shows my home location?" it will be good type of "goodbye arsehole!!! supervisor of no team at all" i'll even let you know what happened! come on!!! lets laugh a little, its been a realy realy sad month!!
Your device has been encrypted by your supervisor, and without the password you nor any app can enter the device settings. The only way is to wipe the device to the default settings.

thats sad!!! we will have to think of other ways to play with his brains....
im willing to try any ideas, if there are any...
it seems to me that only the "settings app" is locked, since i can change locked settings (like wifi enable/disable, BT enable disable, screen backlight etc) from other apps while i get a "policy does not allow this action" when i try to change them from standard android links. I thought i can change "allow mock locations" from an other "app" too.
how about rooting the device, changing this setting and then unrooting? sounds like a plan, no?
how can i check if device is really encrypted? i have almost 0 experience but it seems to me that the device is locked with a crap app like storm windows back in 1995!
i cant enter the settings....

Question Please help!!

Good evening, my pixel 6 USB preferences is missing from the status bar and also for some reason it will not keep the roaming network I pick and chooses to act like automatic.
I need it to stay on a specific network so u don't get roaming charges internationally, but when I click on the roaming network I want, it goes to the next one. I have automatically connect to network off. Anyone offer any help please?
Thank you in advance
Try a network reset if you haven't.
Clear system cache.
I will try that thank you, and about the USB preferences missing, anyway to add them to status bar?

Don't know. Check Developer options.
This seems to be a common complaint... you may need to work around it.

Yeah, couldn't find the option in developmer options not sure why the removed such a very useful feature
Can you fix the title to make more contextual sense for anyone browsing?
We don't want to read "Help please", it'd be better for everyone to read "[Help] USB Status Notification Missing" or whatever would better describe your issue.
I hate to say it, but the only thing I can think of to try is a factory reset. But I don't know if it'll help. The USB settings in Developer Options is present for me.
In the developer option I have a "Default USB configuration" toggle which then brings up a sub menu for the various options (File Transfer, USB Tethering, MIDI, PTP and No data transfer". Is this what you meant, or were you looking for an option to switch on a quick tile in the main notification drop down? If the latter, I don't think that exists in Android 12.
