I don't want to sound like a noob, but I probably already do by making this thread. But it seems that the phone works with the microphone, but no applications seem to be able to use the microphone. I was just wondering if this is something that officially isnt working or if there is extra code to the startup.txt that can be used. Thank you.

When you boot into android make a voice call and have speaker phone on.
Just make sure the backlight for the butons are off before you start it or they will stay on.

looks good. but it is not free.
well, i used this app since my S1. it works great. but sometimes the caller's sound is not clear/light. anyway, so far so good for me.
MOD EDIT HDser Comment removed as it is not in line with our site policy
while browsing trough my windows folders, stumbled uppon record.exe, or something, it was build in by windows, but has been removed, at least, not able to start it up, maybey a way to install it again
I have tried this software, and the voice of the person that talked with me was very low.

I totally agree
It works well if you put the speakers on during the call.
I know this way everybody in the room will hear the convo, but.. it works.
LOL.
Audio notes touch just not good enough...
It doesnt record the one you are talking with (you can vagely hear the other person, as the microphone picks up some of the sound from the personal loudspeaker).
I would like to record all of my calls (crispy clear sound from both parts), and I cant run around with the back side speaker on.
Anny suggestions?
Another ROM update or maybe another program?
thnx..

I went into setting to check off the box where it says turn over phone to use speakers or something similar, when i am in a call i put the phone face down all i see is a green light on the little microphone thingy next to the speaker, nothing from the back speaker at all.
I thought you supposed to be able to do speaker phone by just placing the phone face down, help?

Yes, works well for me.
Must be placed flat down on a table or something similar.
Might want to double check, its checked in settings>personal >phone>advanced settings. Once call is initiated it takes a second or 2 for the speaker phone to ramp up the volume.
Great conference call phone in this mode. 2 speakers, 2 microphones.
my speakerphone does work like it's supposed to.
I do have another issue with Straight Talk though involving the To/CC options in emails. They aren't there. I created a thread, but put it in the wrong forum & no mod has switched it over to here yet.

i have figured out why, the gyrator thing is f'ed up when i tried to install something, just had to recalibrate it.
First of all, I love Android on my Sprint Touch Pro2. The work being done here is awesome. It turns my phone into such an awesome toy.
The one thing keeping me from using Android more is the in call volume. It's just too low. It makes it so I can't really use the phone as a phone. I know this has been brought up before...but its the one feature I'm looking forward to the most....The ability to crank up the in-call sound. Anyone else agree?
Agreed. When I know I am going to need to make a couple calls I always switch back to winmo. In call volume is too low to use in a car or any public place.
Sent from my MSM using XDA App
+1
in call sound is the only reason i boot into winmo
i dont use sound for anything in winmo, i've never heard my ringtone and rarely use it for music or video), but the call volume needs work
Incoming call volume seems to be better than outgoing. anyone else having the same behavior?
that is sound
first of all that does deal with sound if you read up they dont know why the in call sound works at all it just did so to get it to be louder they need the sound to work first so yeah they should get fixed at the same time
My in call volume in WM is low too. Everything audio is low I noticed for the TP2.
I agree too. The call sound is more important than the other features. Winmo sound is fine for me. Can hardly hear in Android.
We realize the issue, but complaining about it doesnt help the situation, do some research and possibly you could fix it. You guys give the Devs no credit at all. Appreciate what is working.
I gotta say i'm pretty impressed with it (of course i'm starting with the latest build and so a lot of the earlier things have been worked out) I'm amazed that it's more snappy than the native wm 6.5, I give a lot of credit to the Devs and looking forward to testing out the other features, it's really breathed new life into my TP2 i'm happy to kick WM6.5 to the curb.
Well you got what you asked for. Supposedly the In-call volume issue has been fixed with the latest zimage update. I've yet to verify it (Updating at the moment)
Yeah!
Wow, that's awesome. The sound is really loud now. A huge improvement. Thanks to whoever made this happen!
i know im gonna get blasted for this but i guess i might not have searched hard enough. Can someone post a link for the Zimage update to help the sound?
No problem. It's all in the Project Tracking section of the webpage: http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/project-tracking
and right under "Current Kernel Build" is where you will find all the latest zimage updates and it's instructions on how to update it. If I'm not mistaken doesn't the Update Utility work? I wouldn't know since I barely use it.
Also in a few days the package will get updated to include the latest zimage incase your still having problems with it. You may need 7-zip http://www.7-zip.org/ for extracting the contents to your Windows PC. If your unsure which type of windows you have then you most likely have the 32-bit version.
Right, here’s the situation, I replaced the screen on my HTC Desire HD a few days ago and literally the first boot since there was a Wifi notification of a ROM update also, so I did it... (Orange UK Software number 3.13.61.5) anyway, since replacing the screen / updating the ROM, the Microphone has gone ridiculously quiet when making or receiving a phone call and if I open the Voice recorder, I can barely hear my recorded voice back, and the only way people can hear me when I call them is if they put it on loudspeaker and still put the phone to their ear...
Ok so initially I thought that this might be a hardware issue as I have been in the phone, however, given the fact that I can hear some playback via voice recorder, this means that the Microphone is working..?
So after a bit more investigation, I found that if I remove the bottom panel that covers the SD Card and Sim Card slots, then Voice recorder works perfectly (but my signal drops off completely so I can't test a phone call... *Are the 2 little gold contacts to do with the antenna?*) So I have come to the conclusion that it must be software? As obviously when these 2 little gold contacts make connection with the phone again, ye it enables me to make a phone call, but wrecks the microphone...
On a side note, I have checked the little Microphone hole on that bottom panel and shoved a pin through it and it’s as clean as a whistle so it can't be a blockage of any sort...
So something is happening when the bottom panel is on the phone, those 2 gold contacts tell the phone to do something? Provide an antenna for it but in doing so almost muting the microphone at the same time..?
Any ideas on how I can fix this or where shall I start? Could this still be a hardware issue? Shall I strip the phone down again and pay special attention to a specific part? :S
Please Help!?
Thanks in advance!
Adam.
which rom are you using? if that's a stock rom, it is highly recommended that you try one of the custom ones from development section (sense 3.5 roms)
Yes, its a stock ROM that was pushed OTA... It's a friends phone, I have a HD2 so I'm very familiar with flashing roms etc... but I'm going through the custom roms section and I can't seem to be able to find a good guide as a starting point..? I see a lot about Downgrading? and S-Off..? (Does that mean Signature Off?)
Thanks very much for the reply though!
Ok... I've flashed a custom ROM now, and a different radio '[ROM] Android Revolution HD 7.0.3 | High Quality & Performance | O/C | Legendary' is the rom I used...
Exactly the same... It's as if the microphone level is right down when the phone has signal/network as if I shout the voice recorder picks stuff up then...
Is there an App I can use to tweak the gain or something on the Mic levels?
I've had the phone in bits again and cleaned out everywhere, theres no dust build up or anything of the sort so I'm sure its not hardware related... but then if the ROM is completely different then it can't be software either can it..? :S
Cheers, Adam.

I'm no expert on electricity and all that but can it be possible that the power input onto the mic is being too low so that it is not functioning properly due to a newer screen sucking up a higher power? but then you mentioned that by removing those plates, it works fine...
I couldn't come across a fix as it seems that not many people had this problem so it seems that it is more of a hardware problem but i'll post asap i find something
EDIT: maybe this
Thanks for the reply! I can't understand what it could be... I have figured out though that if I hold the phone horizontally in front of my mouth and talk then it works... so I'm completely stumped as to what it could be...
Is there no way I can edit some sensitivity figure somewhere? :S
Cheers, Adam.

Hi All
I have had the same issue with no mic imput when calling someone on a HTC Desire 500 phone.
My problem started when I paired a plantronics bluetooth hands free device to my phone and started to use it.
While using the PK100 device all was perfect and no issues, but when I turned off the hands free device I now have the same issue no one can her me through the phone mic, no sound at all. I believe this issue is both software and hardware the software needs to switch the hardware (mic) on and off
It is as if the mic has been switched off by the (PK100) bluetooth hands free but the software on the phone is not re-enabling the phone mic so now I am in a situation where i can only use my phone via a diferent mic headphones or PK100 hands free.
I can also add that while in a call I have the option to switch from the hands free on the phone, or to use the phone or to use the PK100 from an in call option all works ok but the mic on the phone will not reactivate. this seems to be an issue with the software not activating the mic.
If anyone has any idea I would like to here...
Hello, i have microphone problem on my M8.
HTC One M8 has 2 microphone you know. On the front( Main microphone ) and at back.
My microphone which on the front isn't working but my second microphone which on the back is working properly.
If i open the speaker, my second microphone which is on back is working during the calling.
So i have a question for you... Can i solve this problem without repair my microphone?
I have a suggestion for developers. Can you change the main microphone with a software or some special settings ?
If we make the main microphone the second one (on the back), we can solve this i think.
So, thanks for everything...

Not sure that's possible mate the back mic is used for noise cancellation during a call afaik , I'm not aware of any mod to accomplish what your asking, unless mixerpaths has anything in it that may bypass the main mic, i can ask around to see if something might be possible for you but i can't promise anything unfortunately a repair might be your only option, although a Bluetooth earpiece might suffice it would be an easier option for you mate.
