[Fixed] Help Unrevoked3 Rooting Froyo - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having troubling rooting my Dinc 2.2.
I installed the Hboot drivers
I then set my Dinc to USB Debug then ran Unrevoked3
It runs threw its thing until it says done waiting for system to ....
But then it is just sits at the home screen just like a regular Dinc.
Why am I not finishing up in Clockworkmod Recovery so I can backup my Nand and go from there? Thanks
I got Unrevoked3 before they pulled it.

HTC Sync
Is HTC Sync installed? it can't be if you want it not sit at "waiting" forever.

It goes threw all the steps but on the last reboot Unrevoked says Done! waiting for system.....
Then it just sits at the unlock screen Just like normal. So its done but no root.
BTW you are at what I am. Stock 2.2 and Wanting Virtuous. So what steps did you use to get your rooted?

[Q] Help with failed Unrevoked root on HTC desire

Hi, I have run into a problem using Unrevoked 3.1 on my factory unlocked,
non branded HTC Desire on stock Android 2.1 Update 1 via OTA.
Initially I tried Unrevoked on a Windows & 64 bit machine. I installed
the ADB Drivers, and ran Unrevoked which failed on the reboot with a
"failed to flash..." message. I have tried on XP 32 bit, Windows 7
32bit and finally I downloaded Unbuntu and tried that. Every time I
get the "failed to flash..." message. When the phone goes into
Flashboot, I can select Recovery but there is a pause and after a few
seconds there are 4 error messages which appear briefly on the screen
before it moves back to Flashboot, where I can select Reboot and boot
back into my working non-rooted Android system. The error message is
something like "No Image or Wrong Image! PB999.ZIP, No Image or Wrong
Image! PB999.IMG, No Image or Wrong Image! PB999.NBH etc"
I tried to install the Froyo 2.2 OTA update to see if that fixed the
problem but it also failed with the same failed Recover message. Any
suggestion to fix the problem please?
The error messages you describe are normal.
Unrevoked doesn't work with OTA 2.2. Don't know why it didn't work on OTA 2.1 either.

That's the worst thing you could have done, other than bricking your Desire. Now you're stuck with the 2.2 OTA, until anyone finds a way to root with the new HBOOT (which might never happen).
Just to be clear - I am still on Android 2.1, I just can't root my phone with unrevoked.....
Firmware:
2.1-update1
Build:
1.21.405.2 CL174215 release-keys
HBOOT is version 0.80.0000
If you'd like I can help. Are you on boards.ie by any chance?
Thanks would be great. I am on boards.ie username is darraghn.
The same problem!
Hi, i've got the same problem!
Can you tell me how you've fixed it?
Hi, I'd love to help, but haven't resolved it yet - the phone works and I haven't had time to take abc27 up on his offer to help. If you fix yours I'd love to know the answer.

All of you with the similar problem: UNINSTALL HTC Sync, reboot your machine, and launch unrevoked. It has a compatibility(?) problem with HTC Sync, due to the HTC drivers. It took me 1 hour to find out, when I rooted my unlocked/unbranded Desire with unrevoked. Maybe that's why yours is messing up too. And don't forget to download and install the samsung drivers with the link provided by unrevoked, in the read me, or how-to.
f.
P.S: Once successfully rooted, you can then insall HTC Sync and do what you have to do with it.
Hi baitdude, I managed to fix it yesterday. Solution was to download:
PB99IMG_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed_txt.zip
Rename the file as PB99IMG.zip and put it in the roor folder of the sd card. Switch off the phone and restart by holding down the volume button and power. It will reflah the phone with Android 2.1 and you can then move on from that.
I tried rooting again using unrevoked and got a black screen on startup with the HTC logo and 4 warning triangles in each corner. The only way to recover was to download the official Android 2.1 RUU and reflash the phone. It took 3 attempts before it worked. Then I just gave up on rooting and dowloaded the official HTC Android 2.2 update OTA. It failed twice, each time updating and rebooting to a white screen with the green HTC logo. On the third time I took out the battery and rebooted normally. Finally it worked. I had to reboot it again before the mobile connection and the market worked. All now working normally.
I hope this helps someone.
can't root

I followed unrevoked instructions exactly but got a failed to flash image as well. I have the DINC. Also, how can you uninstall htc synch if it is a system app being that you must be rooted to remove system apps? I've already tried easyroot, universal androot system app remover and all to no avail. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. All I want to do is remove the apps that self start and drain my battery.

be sure to remove only HTC Sync, but leave your HTC drivers installed, those are required in order to recognize the phone (I have first unistalled the drivers also and the Unrevoked app was saying waiting for phone..)
Good luck!

[Q] Boot loop (no boot image)

Hey guys! I have no idea where to post, so I apologize if I'm in the wrong section.
I'm very new to rooting and I've seem to come into a major problem. (Atleast in my eyes.) To start off I had gotten my HTC Evo 4g & used the method of UNRevoked to root my Evo. I then found out UNRevoked isn't a full nand unlock & all the nitty gritty, so I came upon Toastcfh's guide to rooting the Evo. I performed half the instructions as told and was then in this boot loop. Right before it happened I (think) I erased the Dalvik Cache, but I definitely hard formatted the whole phone/cache. Anyway as told in the instructions I was suppose to flash the PC36IMG.zip to my phone and I did. Once that all configured it rebooted on itself & now the phone is stuck in boot with stock recovery method. I can load into HBOOT and see that in green lettering it says: SUPERSONIC EVT2-2 SHIP S-OFF, HBOOT-0.79.0000, TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab, RADIO-1.39.00.04.26. Please help me. I havent used my phone for a whole day now. :\
To add: Before the PC36IMG.zip got added on my phone, I had clockwork mod recovery. Now I have the stock one I'm guessing. I have tried a stock RUU through HBOOT USB, but the RUU either says some error my phone battery is under 30% (when it's fully charged). Or the RUU will say waiting for device to connect. & I tried putting a rom on my sd card then flashing or whatever and my computer wont open my sd card unless, I put it in the disk reader. Please ask questions, I'll answer as best as I can...thanks!
The current Unrevoked does in fact unlock nand, so you should have stopped there. I am not familiar with Toast's rooting method, so I can't say for certain what happened. The good news is, you are probably fine, you just need to reflash a rom. Since you can't get into recovery, the best way to fix this is to flash a rooted stock pc36img from your hboot. Download the file from THIS THREAD, rename it to pc36img, put it on your sd card and boot into hboot. It will find it automatically and then it will take a few minutes to load it. Once it's loaded it will ask if you want to run the update, choose yes and let it do its thing. When it's done you will have the latest rooted stock rom on there and clockwork recovery. Make sure you delete the old pc36img off your sd card before doing this. Good luck and godspeed.
Did what u said there MetalHead. still getting boot loops at the white htc evo 4g screen and can not get into recovery. Do you have anymore suggestions?
I would try it again but use this PC36IMG.zip instead.

This one is completely stock. You will be unrooted after running it, so you will have to root again.

[Q] Booting right to Fastboot

I am rooting an Evo via the "How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G" by regaw_leinad
The only issue was I had to run ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin twice before the shell came back with the #. However when I rebooted the phone it goes right to Fastboot and I cannot go on.
I checked and the button does not seem to be stuck.
I am assuming that the OS did not flash correctly or it cannot boot to it so it is defaulting to the Fastboot.
Thanks in advance.
What version of 2.2 are you running. I got a new phone with 2.2 when my original broke on me last month and instead of using the method you are using i just used unrevoked and it rooted and s-off my phone in 5 minutes. easy as pie.
Probably the same version or newer from what you had. This phone just came in this week. I cannot confirm seeing how I cannot get into the OS.
After I ran the PC36IMG update again it started booting correctly.
Thanks.

[Q] Question on un-rooting

Ok, what should I do? Long story short. I tried to use unrEVOked to root my phone. Didn't work, would not finish the process and hung multiple times. So I re-did my phone back to stock and used Autoroot2.3 which hung also, twice. xHausx game me advice on what to do, but somehow I made it worse and eventually lost 4G and the phone acted erratic. Soooo, I used a stock RUU to try to correct the issues. It solved all of them. HOWEVER, the rooting attempts never fully rooted the phone, but the HBoot states "s-off". I can't "s-on" because I no longer have a recovery tool. What the hell should I do? Root or figure out a way to un-root? Hope this makes sense?! Thanks in advance!

Download the 3.70 RUU, boot into the bootloader and select fastboot, and then run the RUU exe. After that try unrunning unrevoked, but let it run..sometimes it hangs and moves on, you should do 2 reboots with unrevoked.

Follow the instructions at the top of the page. Enjoy.

Stuck in non funtioning RUU Froyo with S-ON

Hello. I'm in a bit of a bind which I cannot get myself out of, so I am posting here. I've been around for over a year lingering, updating, trying new things, etc. I came across a free Incredible, which I attempted to root, and install a ROM onto. I rooted the phone with Unrevoked 3, booted into Clockwork mod recovery, made a nandroid, and installed the ROM. The installation was successful, however, on boot after the HTC splash screen the phone vibrates 5 times and the led flashes green constantly. The same thing happened when I tried to boot into recovery.
I found that the phone booted to the Set Up, which crashed, if it was plugged into a computer. I ADB saw the device but I could not push files or execute commands. Unrevoked S-OFF would not work also.
After Googling, I found a 2.2 RUU, which installed successfully, but I get the same boot problems. If the USB is plugged into a computer before the phone is turned on I actually get to Android and can play around. The phone will not recognize any memory, SD or internal; only phone memory is recognized. I tried ADB again with no luck, most likely has to do with the phone not recognizing memory. So I flashed the RUU from HBOOT which flashed fine, but the same problems still persist.
I am out of ideas, which I hope someone has anything I can try.

I cannot thank you enough.
Edit: Unrevoked gave me s-off. I want to be clear this time before I install any ROM. Do I need to run unrevoked-forever.zip? I am 99.999% positive I do not since I already have s-off. I want to get a new ROM on tonight.
Unrevoked 3 now contains the forever patch, as previous versions did not. So you are good to go flash away, after making a nandroid of course
No need for unrevoked forever if you are s-off
Thanks! On my way to a new ROM.
