[Q] ROMS Matrix ? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
First thing, I would like to thank you all for the great work you are doing, so thank you !
Now, there is so many custom ROMs available that is a real challenge to select one.
I understand that there is 2 or 3 categories of ROMS : Sense, No-Sense, Stock, and on steroid ;-), but for the details it is quite challenging to choose one.
Would it be possible to a have a ROM matrix that would show the key features, goals, and orientation/direction/philosophy of each rom ?
thx again !

There are a few sites which list ROMs (which I, sadly, do not have the links to) but they are usually outdated and not maintained very well. Currently the best way to find the ROM that best suits you is to just take the plunge and try a few out.

This is what i found, but it is not really actual at the Moment.
Maybe some people want spend some time bringing it up to date.

Hi this (h t t p://db.androidspin.comandroidspin_release_matrix.asp?android_phone_ID=3&android_build_base_os=&android_developer_id=&go=go) is also a nice matrix but sometimes it isn't up to date ;-(

Maintaining these lists is difficult, they always go out of date pretty quickly.
There is an XDA wiki page for the HTC Desire which has a lot of the roms listed but it also is out of date. I reckon having it in a wiki is a nice idea as any of us can edit it and keep it updated.

don't bite the hand...

hey people, having for the first time(llooooonnng holiday) had time to try different roms ,i hope without fear of contradiction tried the latest being idria, hemli & lt.cmdr.ivan.
lets rember one thing - with only standard operator support(t-mobile,orange,o2 & many others)
THIS HANDSET WOULD BE A PRETTY BRICK.
all the rom's brought forward by the very intuitive and intelluctal people deserve praise and PAYPAL donations.
but i wish to put forward a challenge & or straw poll (hence title)
1) a rom( any rom helmi,indira.jcw,lt.cmd.ivan) -as a vanilla
2) amongst this forum, feature's that work (i.e what people need/want)
3) for me that would be internet sharing ,but hey let's get the poll started
without forgetting ,without sounding sychophatic ,without the help og the above this would be pointless(thats alot of without)
Hi,
I would like to second this initiative.
I specifically want ICS to work on my unit.
Otherwise I would like to thnk everybody on this forum for keeping the Universal alive. Specifically Helmi, Ivan and Indra for the great new firmware.
Please keep up the great work.
Cheers
Ian

Please PM me if you want to help out the community. POSTPONED UNTIL I HAVE SOME TIME, FOR NOW I WILL WORK ON THE BLACKSTONE SECTION.

Cooked ROMs
Reserved for stuff
Lite ROMs
reserved for things
Heavy ROMs
reserved for more stuff
*A Heavy ROM is a ROM that looks and feels heavier than a cooked ROM, and usually has a lite ROM to go along with it. It usually has 3 times the amount of customization done and some have more applications available on it, it all depends. The term "looks and feels heavier" is in figurative speak. There are no biases to which one you want, its just a simple way to organize. Its like organizing rocks, big ones, small ones, and normal sized rocks. You may like the little ones, someone else may like the big ones, others might like the normal sized ones, its all up to preference.

current, or all time?! i'm hoping current
Well, the way I do it, is I look for updated ROMs, new ROMs, just not old dated ROMs.
Take a look at my blackstone one .
This list is postponed until I have time. THANKS! I am still looking for people to help me out in this section.

Key Files Chart

A few changes:
Alright so first off after seeing that this actually got some response, I'm opening it up for other people to edit as well. Hopefully we can figure out a way to do this responsibly... But I figure a community effort on this is much more valuable (especially because my theming is a bit rusty)
Key Files Chart
I am also gonna start modelling this off of a Cyanogen build because those builds seem to be the most poplar now. Keep in mind that much of what works in one theme translates well to most others.

Original Post:
Hey guys so here is what I've been working on.
(Use new Link Above)
Its pretty much a simple list of locations of files that are essential to theming and what they control. This is definitely meant to be simple and geared more towards beginners. I think the thing that was hardest thing for me to learn theming was finding out where specific files were. So hopefully this might help bring down the learning curve.
Plan is to keep on updating this as long as there is interest and questions that people raise. Most of this is from my, relatively, limited knowledge of theming so if anyone else wants to jump in on this, I would be more than happy to add you as a collaborator (thats right, YOU!).
Also, I have this written according to how I know Haykuro's Builds work (because thats the version I use). If things are similar enough to other builds, it shouldn't be too hard to compile a master list across all three 1.5 builds. Let me know. : )
what a great idea! I wish this would have been available to me when I started my first theme! good work
Haha thanks. I been lax bout it lately cuz it really doesnt seem to be catching on at all. Ill wait and see if anymore interest builds up before continuing to update.
Hi!
I would be interested in an update I have been wading through a ton of information, I want to make a theme myself and I have just finished setting everything up properly on my system. I have seen how many image files there are to sort through and the names would be a great help, and I think, a good idea for others too

This is great; although I am new to Android themes, I have extensive experience with BB themes, although that is the "apples to oranges" scenario. Plazmic of course does the grunt work in those, but I have written svg's for animation, hidden docks etc. Hopefully that will help me catch on at a faster rate compared to never having done that sort of thing. So any info you can pass along is much appreciated!- Chris aka riffman

Awesome work. You just simplified SO much of what I was not looking forward to.
I would like an update as well. I am lost sometimes. lol
I'm good on what most of the .png files control, but if you could make one for the .xml files in framework-res.apk/res/layout that would be killer.
Haha wow. Five months later I'm seeing this thread actually got some feedback (And linked on the "Helpful Threads" sticky to boot). I was considering making the document an open project and just working on maintaining the structure if that sounds helpful to people because there are plenty of things that I would like to know as well (like .xmls)
EDIT: Alright I just changed it to open system so that anyone can edit it. I should probably also change the name off from Haykuro seeing as how hes out of the running now...

ROM List

Could we PLEASEEEEEE get a sticky or something with a current list of ROMs available for each device? And whenever someone releases another ROM then they can have it added to the list or something. If it was in the form of a thread then there will be double mentions and that will defy the point. Is there a way that we could have like a non-editable (other than by mods) list of ROMs?
I browse so many different forums and each day there are more and more ROMs coming out but then everything just seems to be so messy when you have to look through so many pages. Different websites have their own incomplete lists, and it's just very confusing, especially if you go away for a week or so and haven't been keeping up and constantly updating yourself... because things change so fast here that after 7 days someone's usually made 10 new discoveries and then there's been 3 new ROMs!
Regards
check out the sticky wiki pages. in there is a link to wiki with all the current roms out.

This is a forum for one device, the Hero, if you want a list of the latest ROM's look down the thread list, most of the cooks date stamp all their releases (or announcements). I'd think looking for [14-03-2010] in the list is a good place to start
Oh okay thank you... I didn't know about the Wiki that's pretty much exactly what I was after.. thanks again!

First of all, there is a little box on top called search. You where notified about that one when you signed up.
If you plan to publish your ROM/ROM's here, to cut it short do this;
There is a forum section called Chef Central. Read the sticky "Some Advice" in that forum. Then read the sticky on top of Desire Development. Then get begin modding the other ROM's available, so you get a hang of how they work. Then, cook away and test thoroughly.
Thank you for your help
