So, my main speaker blew and I'm going to take it in to have it warrantied. I have gotten to the point where I can get unrooted but I still have s-off or i can get to the point where i have s-on but rooted. How can I do both? I've searched so please don't flame.
I'm fairly certain that you need to grab one of the PB31IMG.zip files with the unrooted stock 2.1 floating around and install that. Then run the S-on tutorial. You should be good to go after that. For ****s and giggles once you do that you should be able to check for updates and the froyo update should be there.

Put s-on then unroot by RUU back to stock.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
So, basically, turn s-on then find one of the "official" rb31img.zip files and flash that from the hboot right?
really dont even bother. just call customer service, since they are going to have to order it for you anyways. 18664065154, state you already took it to a technician and they reset and wiped handheld. They will send it to any address (not po box) you want. Keep it the way you have it.
ps and if they ask you why you didnt just get it replaced in store tell them you would have but you wanted to back up your stuff first.
Besides if you do a nandroid backup you can get it right where it was pre defect.
Should he be going back to 2.1 or run the leak for 2.2? Would it matter at this point? I was just thinking about this issue also.
customer service is just going to do a factory reboot and dump all memory anyways. just keep what he has on it. By the time it goes to replacement center hes probably going to upgrade to his next phone. Besides they have no ideas whos phone it is anyways.
I had to get a new phone. I left s-off and reverted back to non rooted 2.1, they don't look at stuff like that. At least they didn't for me.

Curious how you blew the speaker...seems to be a pretty common problem these days but I've never seen anyone say how they did it...

I'm sending my Incredible back to Verizon for a new Inc. but I'm rooted with the new update. Want should I do so they don't know I rooted this phone. OK just check my phone I guest when I did the official update it unrooted me. I' still S-OOF. But I got to go back to original stock before I sent the phone back my phone should get to me in 2 days. So I need to put back 2.1 and S-ON.
Have you done unrevoked forever and turned off the S-off, if so you should probably not send it in.
The best thing you can do is look for the stock 2.0 firmware. Also look on YouTube for a unroot video. I have unrooted and re-rooted this phone so it can be done.
Sent from my Rooted Droid Incredible
I'm S-OOF right know. So I should go back to S-ON and try to find 2.0 rom. Where can I find the right programs to this before 2 days.
I'll help you out.
It does NOT matter if you send the phone back with 2.1 or 2.2, they don't care.
They care about two things you need to worry about.
turning it back to S-ON
and having the stock recovery.
to achieve this. You MUST be rooted to do S-OFF or S-ON, so first off get rooted if your not. Then visit unrevoked
the unrevoked3 is for root, unrevoked forever is S-ON, S-OFF.
once you are rooted, follow the instructions to turn it back to S-ON. **(the same exact way you turned it to S-OFF, but using the new S-ON file.)**
Once this is completed now you will have S-ON, but you are still rooted, and have the ClockworkMod recovery. You need to un-root by downgrading using the 2.1 OR 2.2 RUU. your pick and like mentioned above. don't matteh. This will get you to have the stock recovery, and S-ON. Go in that order. Hope you get it. Peace.
If your S-OFF then you are screwed. There is no way to turn it back on. You are SOL man. You can always restore it to factory but the S-OFF will ALWAYS remain
Sent from my Rooted Droid Incredible
Also your phone has all the programs you need. You just news to put them all in the root of your SD card and reboot into hboot

Uhm you can turn back to S-ON

Unless there has been a break though in getting HTC's and Verizon's super secret security code then I doubt it. The reason its called unrevoked forever is because there is no way to turn it back on. Check other posts in the xda to prove my point. If you return a S-off phone you will void the return and have to pay full price for the new one.

FYI unrevoked forever 1.1 was released last week allowing us to return to s-on.
Also, the reason its called forever is because it forever allows our phones to truly be ours, unlocked and how it should be.

Assuming that to be true why would unrEVoked be offering a package called unrevoked-forever-son?
They SPECIFICALLY provide it in case you need to go BACK TO S-ON....
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can this be removed or undone if I need to take my phone in for service?
A: Download the latest ''S-ON'' tool to a temporary location and follow the installation instructions above to run it. Once your phone is S-ON, you may lose root permanently if you install an official update

Download S-ON file from unrEVOked's website and run that so that you get S-ON back onto the phone.
Then download either the 2.1 or 2.2 RUU (find them in the Android Development Section) and run that and it will wipe the phone and bring it back to factory state.
If it says your phone is not found when using the RUU, try downloading the HTC Sync software for the Incredible and installing that first. You need the drivers for "MY HTC" on the computer for the RUU to recognize it and HTC Sync will install that for you. I had that issue, but remedied it with the HTC Sync software install first.

Way to go back, good for you. It will 100% be refurbished unless of coarse you are within 30 days. refurbs are good though. and its amoled so. whateva
Well we see. the only thing i'm worry about is that it will come with 2.2, and won't be able to root again.
My power button has completely broke, so now I am unable to lock and unlock the screen. I am using a workaround right now, but will need to get the phone replaced. Only problem is that the phone is rooted and s-off using unrevoked. I need to unroot and turn s-on by a method that does not require pressing of the power button. Any ideas?
Note: The power button is permanently depressed (a tech said there was no fixing it) so if I remove the battery and put it back in the phone will power on.
theres an app called No Lock which allows u to unlock the screen with any button, ie the volume rockers. that might help u make it more usable
Go get it replaced.

I am using no lock as the workaround. I can't get it replaced until it is unrooted. It would help if someone developed a one click unroot method for this type of situation (I will donate).
Hmmm
If you dont mind me saying so.... I dont quite know how to UNroot a phonenever had to, BUT ive had to get my phone into recovery without having the new Menu options in the rom, I simply just remove the battery and Hold the Volume down toggle...
hope i was some help... plz keep us posted.
Can't u just run an ruu from your PC???
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Run the ruu from your computer. It will bring your phone back to stock. Just make sure you get the correct Ruu. You want the Ruu that matches the rom version your phone came with.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
it's set to s-off so ruu fails. I need to flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip but I can't use recovery without the power button.
I ran a ruu with s-off and it worked. S was still off after but sprint didn't notice.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
s-off doesnt matter when flashing an RUU... I unrooted mine from work with just HTC Sync installed and the latest RUU...
I'm attempting another RUU version. I hope it works, and Sprint doesn't notice the s-off.
So I'm back to stock 2.1. Still shows s-off. Anyone think Sprint will mind/notice?
probably not. go ahead and update to 2.2 though. I returned 2 with s-off and didnt hear anything about it. Anyway rooting it cant cause the button to break so they should replace it regardless. If you have a problem, be polite and ask for a manager. Dont show your ass though, that rarely helps.

I've been polite with the guy, he knew it was rooted and offered to look at it to try and fix it. When he couldn't fix it, he said to get it back to stock and then it would be under warranty. I just went in and he ordered me a new phone, which will be in on Monday. I guess they can't do much after the exchange anyways.
adb reboot recovery
FTW
I can get into recovery, the problem was using recovery to flash a zip without a power button. I'm not rooted now so it's stuck s-off.
You needed a ruu with a bootloader

Background: I am not new to rooting android devices, have been rooting since the G1 came out, but I am going to be switching to Verizon when my Tmob contract is up. Have my eye on the thunderbolt for myself, but have found a DINC for my daughter that has been rooted, the seller says his SDCard errored and corrupted the SDcard and now the phone boots into bootloader with the skating androids and he can still get into recovery.
My QUESTION is: will the directions for the RUU work in returning the phone to stock (like odin does for my Vibrant) . I have been reading all the DINC threads and this seems the best bet.
Or is there something else wrong with this DINC I am not reading just yet?
Thanks,
Moe
It should, as long as you can get into HBOOT (skating androids), you should be able to reflash the RUU to get back to stock.
The ultimate get back to stock thread by Berzerker7 is the one you read...? I've referenced that more times than I can count, and have used it myself.

I know theres probably a thousand topics on this but none of them seem to have the same exact problem or they do and dont have a solution. I can boot my ROM and i cant boot recovery. the only thing i can get to is HBOOT. I have tried many of the PB31IMG.zip files but none of them work. i have also tried the RUU exe program but that did not work either. im kinda graspin at straws here cuz i dont have a phone right now. im also wondering if i should just take it to verizon, but with that im worried about them finding out its rooted, because it still says "S-off" on the HBOOT menu. Any suggestions on what to do?
To my knowledge if you are in a bootloop with no secondary recovery such as Amon-Ra or CWR, the only other option is the RUU downgrade your Inc through the Android HBOOT Recovery. Use these guides here:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-incredible-hacks/95406-how-correctly-unroot-incredible.html
I have tried that exact process, both options, to no avail...thanks though. Is there any way to revert S-Off back to S-on through HBOOT?

For whatever it's worth, my phone was s-off when I took it in to Verizon. (I was having the vibrations-of-death)
They saw the phone wasn't booting up, and even saw my unrevoked splash screen, and that was good enough for them to send me a new phone.
Honestly, I don't think a majority of those sales reps would even know how to get into hboot, and really don't know a whole lot about Android. I'm not saying it'd be impossible to get someone that lurks XDA in their spare time, but... it's unlikely.
And if they did lurk xda they probably wouldn't make an issue of you being rooted
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I actually just had the same issue as you and spent around 21 hours trying to get things fixed with a few devs and we had no luck. basically the phone would act as if it would take the ruu flash and claim it did and update the hboot like it did but made no change in order to complete a boot cycle. I had no recovery no rom just hboot and fastboot worked. every other option failed. we chalked this up to a hardware failure of some sort. I flashed the lastest Ruu and called *611 explained the problem and they overnighted me a new inc. I still have S-off on the phone but every other item radio/hboot/kernal is all stock. I doubht they wil lreally notice the S-off. all in all the phone is back to stock full wipe. Good luck.
I ended up taking it to the Verizon store today and the rep thought it might have been the battery so he tried a new one of those, but that wasnt the issue. I'm pretty sure he booted into HBOOT because he was playing around with the power and volume buttons, but he didnt ask me anything about it being s-off or rooted or anything and so theyre sending me a new phone, because unluckily they didnt have any in stock at the store i went to, and i have to send this one back. So, so far, it looks like no one really cares or even knows where to check for it being rooted.
I have a launch day evo. I rooted it about a month later. I've been flashing roms ever since. But the past 6 months or so it seems that with physical age that the phone just isn't as fast as it used to be. I used a co workers stock evo today and it was so fast already! To me it didn't need to be rooted.
Now whenever I flash roms I always do a full wipe. I'm not an app person (on Android at least.) and don't have a partitioned sd card (wouldn't know how to do that if I wanted to). I just re download the basics like pandora, xda, swiftkey etc.
Now for my question, is there a way to completely start over from a clean slate? Do I need to update certain root files? My phone just seems so sluggish with out me having anything on it. Oh and I'm on classic rom right now.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Yep. Easy. Run the RUU for your phone. That'll take it back to out of the box.
This link may be dated, but you're using a released ate EVO, so this should tell you everything
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...U2Mi1hNWU0LTRlNjEtYWMyOC1lZmU4ODg1ODc1ODI&ifq
BTW, you don't have to unroot first.
And then I can use one of the root methods to re root my phone?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
If your already s-off via unrevoked or revolutionary then you are already s-off. Just run a ruu to reset your software and start clean.
Not Sent
Since you probably didn't run unrevoked forever, running an RUU will probably put you s-on. I'd RUU to either the last FroYo release to run unrevoked or at least pre hboot 2.18 so that rooting is easier. Go for hboot 2.16 (GB) or 2.10 (FroYo).
Remember that your phone is older, so running an RUU might not make an incredible difference. If you've had your Evo that long then you probably could upgrade. Maybe you're holding out for the same reason I am - there's nothing that much better out yet.
I'd RUU version 2.16 or older, once phone is reset, reroot and enjoy.
But hardware is older, it maybe just getting worn out and may need a good ole fashioned replacement. These things arent designed to last forever../
