[Q] Software Question - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got an Incredible, had it unlock and rooted.
1- Camera shows black screen, led for flash light will not turn on.
2- How can I tell what software and what level was use?
I had read that the radio has to be upgraded, need advise.

How did you root your phone?
Does it have 2.2 on it?

Some one else did the rooting, so I don't really know.
under software number it shows 2.2

Well, not knowing how it was rooted could be the cause of your problem with the camera.
There are a number of radio updates that cause problems with the camera that are not present in later releases of 2.2.
It is possible that your used phone has one of those on it which is causing you the problems with the camera.
I would go back to the person who rooted the phone and find out the details as that most likely will provide you with the answers and that will help you fix the problem.

Orange SPV M2000 - Firmware options

Hi guys,
I'd really appreciate some advice on some potential options for firmware on my Orange M2000.
I am at the latest level of the firmware from Orange (op version: 5.40.1.179, rom: 1.40.00 WWE) but the reason I'm looking for other options is because I recently had my phone swapped on insurance due a problem where my screen would lose it's calibration. Whenever this happened I would have to recalibrate but it would soon go wrong again.
The problem is, my replacement has the *same* problem. I am therefore wondering whether this might be a firmware issue as my first phone was a good 2 years old or something so I wouldnt expect a new one to have the same 'fault', although I suppose it's possible.
Basically, I was wondering what my options might be in terms of adding newer non-orange firmware to my phone and maybe upgrading to WM5 or 6. I was thinking it would be a good idea to try another firmware to see if that fixes the issue before trying to get another replacement.
Along with the calibration issue I also find that receiving MMS messages will sometimes fail and I'll have to reboot to be able to retrieve them. I had this very issue with my old phone (firmware again I wonder?).
If you could point me in the direction of possible firmware / software upgrades it would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone had success rooting Testra phones with 1.16.184....ROM's?

I need to Root this phone and get rid of the Telstra rubbish, but i am having no luck to date.
Any advice from you Telstra handset owners would be fantastic!
Have a look on the modaco android forums, users there have reported success with rooting and flashing a generic desire rom. But there are also reports that the gps problem, that 1.16 fixes, comes back.
Please excuse this really n00b question...However is the only way to root by loading a modified rom onto the phone? Would it not be possible to root my current (HTC Desire from Telstra) keeping all out of the box software/settings?
I guess much the same way that blacksn0w jailbreaks an iPhone without you having to flash a jailbroken firmware back to the phone.
Cheers
It doesnt have to be a modified rom, it can be a stock one. If you do root your phone, you will have to reflash a rom though, be it stock or modified, and all of your personal setting will be gone.
Is there a particular one that seems to work well. I have had issues with mine because it came with the rom that has the GPS fix already installed. This rom is 1.16, it did not like the new one because it is 1.15
I had no issue creating the goldcard and got it to the bootload screen, but i could not get past that point.
Its best you ask questions in the root thread over at modaco, you'll get better answers.
Thanks Jaa-Yoo. I'll give it a crack.

problem! update hasnt actually updated phone

hey
I have an orange phone which a while ago i flashed with a generic rom and rooted. because of this i was unable to install the OTA so i did a manual upgrade to this rom:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
This installed fine (it seems), but as i am on orange, when i rebooted the phone it was network locked. I read that flashing an older radio solved this problem so i went and flashed this radio:
update-bravo-radio-32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11-signed.zip
This now makes my phone boot and work fine with no lock, HOWEVER, the software version still says it is on 1.15.405.4 and not the updated version!!!!
I have tried testing one of the bugs that was fixed in the new ota (i sms'd myself from skype and it still says it was sent by a facebook contact) and so that fix clearly wasnt present and the upgrade just hasnt seemd to work. Can anyone shed any light on this? could it have anything to do with what is installed on my phone during step 1 of the root? the root package i am using is called r5-desire-root-alt
Thanks for anyone who can help on this
Rooting the phone puts the 1.15.405.4 ROM back on your device, if you want 1.21 you'll have to then buy an unlock code to free up the device...
There is an update ZIP in the ROM dev forum which updates the system but leaves the radio alone so might wanna try that...
thanks for this, but the only update i have been able to find in the dev forum is the one on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
but there is a note at the top saying they all contain radio updates
do you have a link to one without the radio update?
Didn't look hard did you??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694564
thank you sooo much, this has finally sorted out my problem

Quick question regarding Custom Firmware

Hi,
I currently have a VF UK Desire, which has been updated with the recent branding.
I'm planning on rooting the phone and installing "NexTSense v5.0 Sense-FroYo 2.2 Official"...
Once this is done, can I run a RUU (say RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe) to unroot my phone is I have issues and need to send back for warranty repairs?
Thanks,
Kiz
Hi there, you can indeed unroot your phone but the problem is that the bootloader will remain unlocked meaning that it is possible to tell that the phone has been messed with. I don't know for sure if that ROM would unroot the phone though, not that it really makes a differance especially if you find you need to return it for a reason that would prevent you restoring such as a broken USB port

[Q] GPS Problem after in-store gingerbread 2.3.4 upgrade

I recently received the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update on my T-Mobile G2 at my local T-Mobile store via SD card. As far as I can tell, everything is fine except for the GPS problem with not able to lock on. From what I can tell from reading other threads, it is similar to the problem people are having after first flashing CM7.
A little background: I am a complete noob when it comes to tinkering with my phone (taking screenshots with it was probably the most adventurous thing I've done to date). I don't really have a need to root my phone, but I haven't been able to find any threads that deal with the GPS issue with an unrooted phone. So if I have to root it to fix it, I guess I will, but I really don't want to go through with it unless I have to.
QUESTIONS:
- Is anyone else experiencing the GPS issue with an unrooted G2 or Desire Z?
- Other than calling up T-Mobile, is rooting the only way to fix the GPS issue? If so, will a temp root suffice, or will it have to be a perm root?
- If the temp root will do the trick, is there a need to downgrade to stock Froyo like you would for a perm root?
Thank you in advance for your help!
As far as I know, getting the 2.3 OTA update or getting the Gingerbread update from T-Mobile will lock your phone for permanent rooting. And you can't downgrade to Froyo 2.2.
It looks like you will have to wait until someon have invented a new hack or metode to root G2 with gingerbread installed.
Or just do a factory reset. I don't think they will have a bug in the new gingerbread update, the problem may be in the software in your phone.. you have to much garbage installed on it ... just do a hard reset,, if it doesn't work you and you want your old Froyo than you have to wait until someone hacks gingerbread for rooting ..
My Desire Z is seemingly having problems connecting after the OTA Gingerbread update. I didn't fully test it, cause I only tried it once after the update, when I was navigating to a place (and so, maybe not having a problem). But that once was unusually slow. I'm adding it to my list of problems to tell the service center! BTW, I can root my Gingerbread DZ, right?
G2 GPS not aquiring signal never rooted

I am also having this problem. I purchased the phone and i think the OTA update was already installed.
I did a hard reset but it did not correct the problem ( it will not lock onto a sat)
Is there a work around yet? (hack for gingerbread rooting?)
here is my specs:
T-Mobile g2
Android Ver 2.3.4
Base band ver: 12.62.60.27u_26.13.04.19_m
kernel ver: 2.6.35.10-g96de068

Anyone help me as I cannot get GPS to work
I am a noob but did successfully root my old g1
You can downgrade stock Gingerbread then root, then install custom ROM using this guide
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Rooting
This is basically THE guide if you're on stock.
Did this on my phone 2 weeks ago from stock Gingerbread OTA and now running ISC (Icecream JIBwich 1.2 port) happily with GPS works flawlessly.
Fasterfix app works, too. I'm running andromadus 12 and the latest tmobile radio. I upgraded radios when using mexdroid and that made gps lock perfect. But when I switched roms fasterfix got me the 2 sec lock I was looking for.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I took mine in for an in-store, unrooted and my entire screen stopped working. Had to get me a new phone. Seems like the in-store updates aren't so great?
Sent from my CM7 G2!
