My question was concerning my 16gb Class 6 card (which actually appeared to be corrupt/broke'd anyway)
I asked about compatibly with the Desire...

Thank you for contacting us.
In regards to SD Cards
I can help you with that.
The card that you are trying to use is not compatible with the phone as the class is too high speed for the device to be able to keep up with the speed. I have included a link to a webpage with the sd cards that are compatible with that device.
http://www.expansys.com/a.aspx?i=196001
If you look under the accessory tab then down the bottom is compatible memory.
I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.

I'm sure I read some threads about class 10's working fine in the Desire?
The link seems to suggest only a class 2 or a class 4 will work...
I'm using a class 4 without problems so far.
On a dutch board I read a guy was using a class 6 on Starbust so it should be possible I think.
I've just bought a 16gb class 4 Sandisk and the speed tests show it as being quite a bit faster than my class 4 (non Sandisk) 8gb card!
I'm using class 4, working fine
I'm using a 8GB class 6 card with Custom ROM and A2SD with no problem. Been over 6 months now.
A lot of class 10 cards have issues, class 6 seems to be the most reliable thus far. Some people have had good experiences with A-DATA 16gb class 10.
So from user experience - a good Class 6/10 card should work just fine?

For C6 yes.
For C10 Mostly yes... but usually class 10 is not really faster... so save the money.
Just my two cents.
I'm using Transcend 8GB class 6 without any problem. Try to format by gparted or similiar. Are you using it for any other purpose than storing photos, music or etc? For example for data2sd or apps2sd?
I just bought a transcend 16gb class 6, working perfectly so far with no problems.

I bought a 16gb class 6 to use with data2sd but struggled as the card was broken - so i've sent it back and just have the 8gb class 2 that i got with my phone now - and on stock rom again, so it is just photos and music and froyo app2sd at the moment
basically all branded cards will work fine, the thing you shoud be concerned more onthe capacity you are gonna use. It aint worth buying a 16GB sd when u cant fill even half of it with useful stuff
If speed is your thing then get a class 4 or 6 but I had SD mounted as read only with a class 4 8 gig Kingston SD, so I swooped with a buddy of mine for a class 2 SD from a Nokia n95, no problems since then.

I wanted to let anyone looking for a micro sd about a deal i found. I found a Patriot Memory 16gb micro sdhc class 10 for $39.99 on www.CompUSA.com I think i'm going to order one after reading here on xda that patriot makes a pretty reliable sd card. I haven't ever used a patriot memory product so i only know what guys on here have posted. anyone make sure you check into the company on your own. They have the wintec 32 gb class 10 for $84.99 too!
apparently class10 cards are no good for phones, take a look at this link
yeah you dont want to spend all the money on something that might not work right?
I had read here on xda that the class of the sd card doesn't matter but the size(gb) is what matters with phones. like my SE X10 is only compatible with up to 16gb of external memory. Is that not correct? Can anyone clear this up for me?
X10's are compatible with up to 32gb microSD cards, I've got one in mine.
The size is important as you want to buy an SD card that works for the content that you intend on putting on it. If you have a lot of MP3s and videos, take a lot of pictures and shoot a lot of videos then obviously you are going to want at least a 16gb SD card.
The class does indeed matter. If you have hundreds or thousands of images then a class 2 card would take ages for them to all load in the Gallery. Or if you use App2SD at all a class 2 card wouldn't be able to keep up with the reading and writing and the app would be sluggish.
A class 10 card in my opinion is a bit excessive, I'd personally go for a class 4 or 6.

This is very true. I have a class 2 card and loading thumbnails for artists/albums is painfully slow in mediascape. I would go for a 32 GB if you are a music fan. I have a 1800 songs on my X10 and its already full. Class 4/6 should be good, class 10 is a little excessive.

Just take the card out of the phone. There should be a 'C' printed on the card and there will be a number inside the 'C'. This is the class of your card.
I was using stock 8 GB class 2, I brought Team 16 GB class 10. Difference in performance is noticeable.
I have a class 10 8gb card and it works way better than the stock card.
Just make sure you tweak your read_ahead_kb.. Search for SD card speed improvement or speed increase.
In general, Class 4 or 6 are good enough for the application usage by phone, such HD video and phones.
I tested my Class 4 sd card, it able to transfer ~5.5mb / sec, not bad.
Yes, when price come down, I will get a Class 100 sd card too.
cheers
I'd rather the class 200.

Class 10 significantly improves the performance.
Honestly it does not matter if someone is using the SE stock rom...however since I have tried the awesome ROM created by wolfbreak...my apps stored in sd was very sluggish...had to buy a class 10 16 gig to improve the performance...
Just got a 16Gig class 4 card...goto to play with data2sd and see the quadrant!!!!!!

If you get a real kingston class 10 you will get five times the speed of a low spec class 2 generic sd card.

Real Class 10 SD cards work at 10MB/s of data transfer speed.
Class 2=2MB/s
Class 4=4MB/s
Class 6=6MB/s
Class 8=8MB/s
Class 10=10MB/s
The best are as said by others Kingston and Sandisk.
I've a Sandisk class 6 card and i get near 5,5MB/s of data transfer.
Mine is still 8gb, i want to buy another but in Brazil it's very expensive, the taxes are very high.
Got the Wintec Filemate 16gb class 10 for just under $40 at Frys Electronics and it's given me no problems. Used it in my NookColor running tons of apps and music from it without a hitch. Now it's in my X10 and with using the SD Speed Up tools, it helped alot.

I want to max out the memory with a 32gb SDHC. Anyone have any suggestions?
The SanDisk 32GB is very good,
it performs higher than stated with regards to class and obviously is a highly reliable make.

Another vote here for sandisk, havent actually tried their 32GB, but every other card i've had from them has been faultless.
Most important thing w.r.t. memory cards IMO, is to buy from a reliable source. Ebay is rife with fakes.
Arc can handle up to class 6?
Or i shall order a class 8 or 10.
When i bought arc i had in the case a 16gb sdhc card, but i want a faster one
someone was able to get between 6.00 to 6.79 MB/s on his Class 6 16GB MicroSD, but that was on an X10. you might get similar results on the Arc.
(source)
just got a lexar 32gb class 10 card from amazon (solutek) works great , faster than standard card supplied with arc
I guess I'll try the Sandisk, much appreciated guys. Now I just need this phone to be shipped.
I Bought a Sandisk Class 4 32GB and it works fine for me.
The data transfer to the card seems faster when I take it out of the phone.
I was thinking of getting Lexar MicroSDHC 32 GB Class 10 from amazon for my arc so anyone have it already and how is it? cus i didn't see any sandisk microsd have class 10 32Gb.
I've used the original Sandisk MicroSd 8 Gb (Class 2) and a Class 6 variant... When you copy big numbers of mp3 or movies to the phone, it really makes a difference. Example: with a Class 2 it takes about up to 1 or more hours to transfer 1 Gb - a Class 6 does the job in less then 5 minutes...! But if you want to buy a good rated SD because of the HD-camera, then Class 2 should be high enough (according to the experts). Any higher only helps if you transfer data a lot/often (like changing your musiccollection on the Arc).

btw, if anyone spots a good micro sd 16gb class 6 or higher please inform me.
I become a 16GB Class 2 Card but this card was wrong, the write speed is 3Mb/s, then I bought a new 16GB Class 10 Card. This card speed: 11.3/20.9 (write/read) the i am happy The maked HD video is better and the frame rate is really 30fps
UPDATE: The card worked much data disappeared from him then until 5 days. The next day the telephone did not see the card already though. F***ing noname card! Nobody let me not buy it trademarkless card!
I'm considering replacing my Sandisk 8GB SD card with a Class 10 32GB one. However, I searched the forum and found a few posts claiming there were compatibility issues of the 32GB Class 10 SD card with Atrix. These posts are a few months old. Does anyone know if it's now safe to buy a Class 10 32GB SD card for use in the Atrix? Thanks in advance!
I've been using a class 10 32gb sd card for a couple of months. Works just fine!

I've been using a Lexar 32gb class 10 for awhile now, and have experienced no problems.
Same here. Lexar32gb sdhc class 10 works just fine ...
Thanks everyone for the response! I'll go ahead and buy a Class 10 microSD card.
I don't think it is necessarily an issue until you use something like webtop2sd. My 32GB class 10 Kingston card works fine until I try to use it to hack up my webtop. The issue at hand is that webtop2sd will not see extfs partitions and cannot create them when this card is involved. However, I put my 16GB class 4 card in and was able to effortlessly execute webtop2sd. Not having the 32GB card that I just bought working kinda burns me up, so I am going to try and use dd to clone the extfs partition from my 16GB card onto my 32GB card. I want the added throughput class 10 has to offer. I just hope that this will work. I will report back with results.

I have a patriot class 32GB class 10 sd card
Also check out SD speed increase or SD Booster to increase the speed of your SD, has mine giving me 20MB/s write speeds and >50MB/s read speeds as bench marked with antutu, up from 12MB/s write and 22MB/s read speed without it. Just have to at least be rooted. Both developed by different people on XDA and available for free in the android market.
Also for webtop with 32GB class 10 SD card I was able to get mine to work using the Full Debian Linux in Webtop mod with the 4GB debian linux on the EXT-SD card. See thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093790
Had this working on HomeBase Bluechronic 6.2 prior to going over to CM7 Nuetrino GT ROM.
I use webtop2sd on my PNY 32GB class 10, been working fine for me

The class refers to write speed which is great for cameras or if you move a lot of files. Most cards that are rated at class 10 have slow random 4k write speed. When you are running a os on the cards, (webtop) the random 4k write speed seems to be more important than the class speed. SanDisk class 4 and even some class 2 will usually outperform most class 10 cards when they have an OS running on them. There is a good post on another forum on Xda about this, search for Sandisk class 4.

After lots of searching and reading can anyone help with SD card choice? Why is it such a problem for this phone? Is there different hardware in the phone or is it the way the ROM or Kernel addresses the card that seems to cause so much trouble?
For every card that is recommended you can find somebody who has had issues with same card so do I need to find out about the hardware in phone or stick to ROM or kernel threads for best card for me?
Have tried 3 cards so far and the lowest spec one was the best!! I know there are lots of reported problems with class 10 cards but also lots say their phones perform great with them but I found the class 10 PNY 8GB card the slowest I've used and a class 4 8GB sandisk the fastest with a class 6 8GB samsung nearly as fast but still cannot work out why there is so much trouble with SD cards
Ive been using a class 6 A-DATA sd card for quite a while now and I must say, I'm impressed with its speed. Its great for A2SD and SD ext. I tried sebastiaans rom, and it runs pretty smooth on this card, WAY better than on my class 2 samsung sd card.
In the end its just a matter of taste, some say Samsung is better, some say A-DATA is and others Kingston. Ive read that a class 10 card is a bit of overkill for the usage and that a lot of them arent as fast as they claim to be. I'd say class 6 will do just fine! The brand does not matter, stick with the big names tho . Kingston, A-DATA and Samsung seem to be bought the most!
Thanks but still want to know why, what is the limitation...the phone hardware or rom/kernel? I'm on seb15 AIO5.0.2 now with cm7 r2 hboot and the class 6 samsung 8GB in much faster than the class 10 PNY 8GB so not getting any lag now but seems no different to the class 4 sandisk that i replaced due to card errors but that was on standard HBoot.
Have just ordered a sandisk ultra 16GB card for extra space so hope it is as good or better and it was a bargin http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/...-Micro-SD-HC-Memory-Card-Class-6/Product.html
but what is the fastest read and write speed you can expect from the hardware? I use antutu now to check speed.

I have tried 2 of those 16gb ultra mobile dual color cards and I had a lot of frezes, with AIO 5.0.1SE rom, CM7r2 Hboot. So I had to go back to my lexar 16gb class6.
Hhmmmm like i said for every good report on a card there is a bad one, have read a few good reports on this card and the original class 4 sandisk card has been the best i've used so far so thought would give it a try...hope I'm lucky with it!!
It should arrive today or tomorrow so will repoet what i find
Well the sandisk 16gb ultra mobile has turned up and been running it for a few days now with no problems, ROM is running smooth with no freezes so far.
Using antutu to bench mark it and it appears to be slightly faster than the class 6 samsung 8GB it replaced, alot quicker than the class 10 PNY but still slower than the old class 4 sandisk 8GB!
ROM runs sloothly and I have enough space for now so will stick with it.
Yep... ultra mobile is the best card that I ever use till now.

We recommend a Class 6 Transcend for any kind of data swapping like data2sd, or data2ext, on the basis of maximum positive feedback. A class 10 is more often overkill and most brands are incompatible with the Desire, while a Class 2 might be underpowered (in terms of speed).
Personally tested cards with data2sd:
Class 2 Kingston-Ok
Class 6 Transcend 4GB-Great
Class 6 SanDisk 16GB-Lags
Class 6 Samsung 16GB-Great
Class 4 3CPro 16GB-Great
Class 10 Transcend 16 GB-lags
The polls section of supernova.droidzone.in has some polls regarding speed of card with my roms.
..and you can't get a more useful response than that!
