Lost backup of 2.2 OTA - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently running Cyanogen 6, which is freaking my phone out and overheating it, so i need to return to sense. Something happened in cyanogen and corrupted my SD card and i lost my nandroid backups. If i want to go back to the leaked 2.2 ota, can i just reflash the rom in hboot? I am running the 2.15 radio, and unrevoked forever. And if i do reflash the leaked ota in hboot it wont brick my phone right? i have heard that if people run the update twice it bricks the phone.

Nand backup noob question

Im currently running the following...
3.75 fps fix kernel
Rooted through unrevoked3
1.47 ota unrevoked update.
Im wanting to try cm6. So im going to have to reroot through simpleroot for cm6. My question is if I take a nand backup of my current running system , is restoring it as simple as running recovery and selecting restore? I've rooted devices before just never have ran diffrent roms than stock ones.

Yes it is. You probably want to do a data and cache wipe before restoring, just to be safe.
Yes and no. If you do a nand of your unrevoked rooted phone then do full root then decide to restore your old rom you will wind up with unrevoked back instead of a full root rom running on top of the engineering hboot which allows for unlocking nand. You would probably be better off flashing another 2.1 based rooted rom even if it's a stock rooted ver rather than going back to unrevoked.

[Q] Quick Question about restoring Recovery on 1.39.00.05.31

Hi,
I am Currently running a Evo with software version 1.39.00.05.31 I didn't take the 1.47 update. I rooted/iinstall custom recovery using Unrevoked3. I want to take the OTA 1.47 so I can then apply Unrevoked 4 ever and then upgrade to 2.2 and maintain root. I downloaded the 1.47 update and created a pc36img.zip file (Used it on another evo) However when I try to flash it, it doesn't work and say something about wrong version. Wondering if anyone has the recovery.img and android.txt from 1.39.00.05.31.
Also if I can't get recovery back can I use Clockwork to apply the update that was downloaded? I would rather not restore to stock and restore all my apps and such.
Thanks

Update the radio via recovery then install unrevokedforever. Or just install unrevokedforever lol
You know your on the very first release of software for the phone right? We are all on 2.2 froyo right now where have you been? I liked 2.1 myself but the fixes alone are worth the updates

Well I'm not sure why you would want to do it that way but if your already rooted using unrevoked 3 (Not Full Root)
Then you can simply Download and apply Rooted 2.1 1.47.651.1 Rom to it or even the 2.2 3.26.651.6 (Most Recent)
But if I was you I'd use Titanium Backup to keep all your data so incase you can't use any recovery in the process at least you can restore it to any Rooted Rom or unrooted.
But to make this much simpler you need to use SimpleRoot that has Nand Unlock Option, also called 3 step Root.
This is in regards to your issue with Main Version Older Error when you tried using (PC36IMG) in bootloader.
If your gonna use SimpleRoot Make sure you have all the files included in your SD Card Otherwise PC36IMG by it self won't work.
Hope this Helps

[Q] newbie to rooting

First and foremost this site has opened up my eyes on taking the full benefits of rooting and more. I rooted my evo last night with the froyo 2.2 . I received an HTC Message stating there was a HTC update. If I install this update will it unroot my phone ? Should I never update the firmware or HTC updates ? Thanks in advance.

Do not accept the update. What you can do to get updated is flash a rooted pc36img.zip through hboot. That will update you completely (radios, hboot, kernel, rom) to the current OTA, without losing root. The pc36img.zip you want to use and instructions can be found in this thread. You will lose all your data so be sure to back it up with titanium or mybackup first so you can restore it later. It is also a good idea to do a nandroid backup through recovery before flashing anything.

[Q] OTA?

Hi,
Coming from HTC Hero running VillainROM 1.7 it did not take long before my DHD was rooted. Did Radio S-OFF; wasn't quite ready for the ENG. I thought I'd flash the radio but that did not happen without ENG. So my strategy is to have a backup of the current ROM, do the OTA and then revert to my backup via Clockwork.
I hope my strategy is OK.... but where is the OTA??
Thor
There are some problems with your strategy buddy.
If you flash the ota you will loose the clockworkmod recovery. Since you can't root stock 1.72 then you won't be able to flash it back again either. Since you have radio s-off all is not lost. You can get root back by flashing back to the older 1.32 ruu and re rooting. When you flash that it will revert your radio back to the older one however.
If you want to update your radio and nothing else you don't have a choice but to get engineering hboot s-off.
Ok, found a tool for ENG S-OFF that I can risk
Radio update then and check improvement in stock ROM before going custom.

[Q] Hopelessly Stuck in 2.1 With Evo 4G

I am stuck in Stock "Firmware Version 2.1-update 1" with Software Number 1.47.651.1 and even though I constantly check for OTA updates, the phone says that there are no updates for my phone.
Here is how I got here: I got my Evo 4G a few days after it came out. I was an early adopter of Unrevoked and Unrevoked Forever (S-Off). Things were great. Eventually, an OTA slipped by and forced my phone into a boot loop. I was able to use Clockwork to restore one of my backups and then avoid further OTA's.
I decided that I wanted to go stock, and get to the newest OTA. I used the RUU method to get my phone back to its stock rom. Then, the phone found two OTA updates. I thought that it probably had to update in several steps instead of jumping right to the latest update, so I just accepted the first two OTA's that it found. Unfortunately, the phone will not find any more updates and I am stuck with 2.1 (1.47.651.1).
I also noticed that when I boot into recovery, there is no "recovery" there. I see the word recovery, but when I select recovery it takes me to a red triangle with an exclamation point in the middle. I tried to download and install the 2.3.3 OTA Rom by renaming it to update.zip and putting it on my sd card, but I got some errors and it would not install.
I wonder if having S-Off has anything to do with the phone refusing to find the newest OTA updates? Or maybe I need a new radio? But if I reverted all the weay back to stock, wouldn't all of this been taken care of during the RUU method?
If anyone can help me get to the newest official version of Android, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks very much!
You need to install a recovery, I suggest amon-ra, then download a rom and flash it through recovery. Sounds like you just don't have a recovery installed
We're comin from a pure power source.
But am I unrooted now that I went back to stock with the RUU? If so, can I flash a recovery?
Thanks!
once u get to the little evo with the exclamation point, hit volume up and power at the same time. It takes u to a stock recovery. Or just flash a custom recovery as said above as a PC36IMG.zip flash a custom rom and viola! Or the other method u can do is take it to a sprint store and have THEM run the stock 2.2 RUU, get you to 2.3.3 and you should be able to update to the OFFICIAL AOS but of course as with anything stock, you run the risk of losing full root. But I doubt it because I just rooted a stock evo with the latest 4.54 OTA update just fine. hope this helps. Good luck with any way you choose to go.
Whether you are s-off or s-on doesn't matter to run the latest 4. 54 ruu. Download it and run it. U will then have latest software. Then if ur not s-off go to revolutionary.io and get s-off'ed
