I made an app for easy access to the service menu's on the Galaxy S. I made it on the Vibrant so if anyone is willing to try it on the I9000 and leave me some feed back it would be much appreciated.
The app can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772690
Installed it on a stock Galaxy S and it seems to work fine.
After you select an item (i.e. GPS) it temporary brings up the Telephone keypad then goes straight to the service menu without any further intervention.
However, when you have finished altering items and come back out it again takes you again to the Telephone keypad where this time you then have to hit 'back' once again to come out.... Is this correct?
Yes this is correct. The program is just typing all those crazy service codes into the dialer for you, so you dont have to remember them all. Thank You for the feedback it is much appreciated.

Do any of the options work or are they all broke on the epic? If some work, which ones?
None work, I'm not rooted maybe that's why???? To confirm I'm using the app properly. I launch the app, select a setting, it launches the dialer, and instead of then launching the service menu, nothing happens.., if I press the Send, it attempts to make a phone call. I tried for all of them, as I was hoping to get this to work.
Thats strange. You should not have to be rooted. Sounds to me like samsung changed the codes for access on the epic. I will do some research into this. Can you type a code manually in the dialer and let me know what happens? For example this should show your your IMEI number: *#06#
EDIT: I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7973675
It appears the secret codes are not working at all on the epic, so it is not the program. It seems these menu's were locked out or removed (possibly at sprints request).

Ya nothing works when I press the factory format it tells me it will erase everything but I'd rather not see what happens next. Thanks for your efforts maybe verizon will remove the codes too.

I'm planning on selling my EVO. I've done a wipe, but my Sprint PCS user name is still under 'About phone'. How can I get rid of it?
I think that'll go away when you have that phone disconnected. Someone chime in and let me know if I'm wrong.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Once the phone is reactivated it will take on the new user information.
I thought that when I activated a new phone, the EVO would automatically be deactivated? It seems everything is removed except my PCS username.
You can do a MSL master reset on the phone, it should erase it. And if it doesn't, your info will gone when the other person erases it. If it's deactivated, it's not like they can really use it.

Mine is still working. Wonder when this is taking effect?
Probably can just spoof your phone as a galaxy s3 via the build.prop and it should still work.

That program is a bust on my device anyway... /uninstall
I tried it and wasnt that excited about it. I was running GB and even flashed up to ICS just to try it. After checking it out I restored back to GB. When I had my 3D I tried vlingo, iris, and Jeannie. Not to impressed by any of them.
Finally just killed it on my phone. Was hoping to skate by on the whole Galaxy II thing but nope. Pretty obvious even if it's released for other Galaxy devices like the SII they will cut it off for use with other devices. Be smart, release it as a paid app, like $1.99 for other non Sammy models. Recoup those losses somehow

I agree! Put it on the market plus $1.99 hell I'll pay for it. but couldn't you just edit build.prop spoof sgs3 ?? I think that won't work! Anyone has tried spoofing it and it worked?

Wouldn't changing build.prop work ?

You would need to change a number of items. Plus how much of it is working. It does transmit what carrier you are on as well as carrier country. SIII not available on all providers atm, so I wonder if they blocked out by carrier and carrier country as well.
I found this fix that has a modified apk to make it appear to be coming from a GS III.

I uninstalled it, it didn't appeal to me.

uninstalling/installing an app is easier and less time consuming than manually changing your build.prop and restarting. also, changing your build.prop doesn't fix the problem, it patches the problem. the problem is with the app not your phone, so dont fix your phone -- fix the app.

I wouldn't say that because it fixed my problem

Working with the new apk, the one draw back is it seems I get more functionality from Vlingo itself than this app. IE car mode and opening of apps.
When I say play a certain song no go, fc. Using Vlingo it works flawless.
patching the app worked for me. Someone on this board posted a pre-patched svoice-patched.apk which worked very well to fix my "network errors". Works fine now, FCs notwithstanding. Not super impressed by the app, feels like a gussied-up vlingo. Ain't no siri.

i didn't say it wouldn't give you your desired outcome, but it didn't fix the problem because the problem isn't the phone -- the problem is the app. by changing your build.prop, you may have introduced other problems that you haven't triggered yet or aren't aware of (such as apps on the market that wont install on gs3 devices).
I have two lines and i made a change of number on the main line through the website and everything seem fine i let the phone sit, now neither lines can make or receive calls only data but not sms either, the sprint rep told me that the phone is not connecting to the tower

Reflash rom
Change prl
Go to stock and take to sprint store

That's the usual location, it may be located elsewhere depending on the device.
Clear NVRAM and let it reactivate?
Almost any time I tried doing something to my phone via the Sprint site, it bit me in the ass...whether it be changing the number or activating new phones. Every time, I've had to deal with them on the phone (an alternate cell phone, that is) and have them troubleshoot it with me, resetting things on their end. If you've tried that and they've been unable to help you get it up and running, I agree with the poster who said to send it into the shop and see what they can do for you.

This. Do a hands free activation on both devices. Weird that the second line is acting up which would make me think it is them. Phone support should actually be willing to walk you through it but the store can do it for you as well, dont be surprised when they call the same people via a different number of course.
How do i clear NVRAM?

Msl can try 000000.. but ya, if you ask me sounds like a provisioning error.. best bet would be hands free activation, updating prl and profile.. if not just call sprint from alternate phone and they can walk you through it assuming your on a tw rom and not aosp.. if on aosp need to revert back to stock to be able to use the codes or even to updateprl and profile

I really don't even know how to search for this because the only device I know of that I could compare the functionality I want is the iPod Touch. I moved to Verizon a while back and got the Galaxy Nexus. What I would like to do with my Epic is remove all of the phone functions and leave it as a WiFi capable device similar to the iPod Touch so that my son can use it to watch videos and play games. I keep airplane mode turned on, but I keep getting some notification about voicemail not working and I would prefer it to not be able to accidentally dial 911 since Sprint is required to allow that call if the phone tries to send it.
Are there any ROM's that do this, or is it easy to remove the necessary files? I currently have ACE2.0 flashed, and I love it, but I will switch if I need to.
Didn't someone just post this exact same thing? Delete dialeractivity.apk and there will be no dialer.

Sorry, I didn't see any threads that I thought were the same question. Does that take care of the voicemail notification too?
I found this when looking for something similar for a used Fascinate.
I haven't tried it yet, but intend to when I get some time in a couple weeks...
Looking at the package it deletes several apks and installs a "radiooptions" binary that gets run via script at boot-up.

yes but then again if your doing PRL update or if in the future you change your phone number you gonna need that again, i just need to disable that code without effecting anything else, do you know how we can do that
As I said just rename it. If/when you need it it takes a rename and reboot and your back in business. The only ways I know of require same style changes.
