I think any Meelectronics in-ear headset with P in the product name would be more than enough. You just need to select the model that best suits your needs/wallet . I recommed M9P as a good start, and they're not expensive.
Look at this post, this is my second recommendation of Meelec.
Here's one review.
i had the same problem..i just made my own,cut off the moto earphones about 3" from the ear piece and the same on some you like.two wires one coloured and one bare, solder them to the replacement ones and get some cheap shrink sleeveing,it looks good and works a treat.
Thanks
Yesterday i visited many of shops to test various headsets... luckily shops do have test pieces.. After checking at-least 10 headsets found one for my defy.
It is ..Samsung headset.. which is original headset comes with Samsung Champ mobile pack. Dealer agreed and opened a brand new box for me and gave me headset.
Sound is very decent and mainly for the money it is pure gold...
Thank you all guys for your valuable suggestions.

Any kind of headphones with a Talk Controller or microphone will not work with Sony Ericsson devices. Sony did something to the AUX port and its connections are inverted or something. I read a while back when i bought my pair of Dr.Dre beats.
I just got my LiveSound Headset and it does the same thing on my Asus Transformer like the DreBeats did on my Sony Ericsson. Great set of headphones Much better then Dr.Dre Beats and cheaper too.
I solved the problem.i sold my arc s and i bought galaxy s 2.Now i'm very happy with my phone and headphones.
Thanks for reply @rsingh612

WoW what a solution
iPhone+BlackBerry and SE+Nokia are using different standards for pin-outs on headphone jacks, so you have to change either headset, or headphones..
i hate all those companies for doing this kind of thing to us

Yeah...
I think I'm going to tosh around a few hundred bucks for a new phone, because I don't like Arc's default ringtones.

Is it so hard to use the Standard SE cable with mic/switch and plug in whatever headphones to that? For crying out loud! That's what I do and EVERY single pair of headphones that had issues does not do it if you plug them in that way! For now though, I found some nice ear buds that were for the xperia pure, I use them with the standard cable and the sound quality is fantastic.
There is a APK somewhere in SYSTEM folder that detects the unsupported headphone have someone tried to delete it and test it? Atleast we can get the headphones to work
Would this problem also occur when using my own headphones? (original iBeats, not from htc)
try to find a neutral stereo plug, they're included in marshal or urbanears headphone
technobaboy. com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1059.jpg
make an adapter... every manufacture only invert, and change the position
(download electrodroid from market, theres many port mapping)
re-route using adapter
sorry for bad english
There is a software solution for this?
say, a modding or something?
or just selling the same S Arc? lol
thank you
u can try to modify hardware
I ordered an MH1 LiveSound Headset in white for 19.99GBP and 1.99GBP shipping off eBay yesterday and they came today. The flat anti tangle cable is way better than the iBeats cable & the mic/control unit is a better quality than the iBeats, the sound quality is way better than the stock black headset that comes in the box of the Arc S and I would say it's on a par with the Audio quality of the iBeats. I've got the LiveKey set up to launch Play Music via LiveKey Launchee that's available in the Play Store, I might set it up to control Track ID or FM Radio as the Music Control feature on the LiveView kind of makes it obsolete, as there is no propper Music Control on the MH1s other than Volume & Play/Pause using the middle button.
I chose the white MH1s only on the grounds that they go nicely with my white Arc S. I tried using the white headset that came with my X8 but the sound was really poor compared with the black headset that comes with the Arc S.

I read somewhere that Sony have changed it so that it's the same as most devices like Apple and Blackberry so it should work.
Maybe your ones are broken.

I read the same article too!
I try my apple in ear with my friends iPhone and I works perfectly. :-(
Tested OEM apple headphones, doesn't work
Tested Seinhauser headphones, doesn't work
Tested OEM Samsung GSII headphones, works....
I've had it, sending mine back. First the retailer doesn't supply the hdmi as advertised, then I have to deal with "some" headphones work issues.
No thanks.
No offense but why would you want to use Apple headphones? They are some of the worst headphones on the planet.
Yeah, I don't understand why you'd want to use apple headphones, you can buy a lot better headphones for so low... try some audio technica ones if you are in a budget. Apple standard ones distort everything so much...
If you are asking me, my sennheiser are my primary headphones, they were around $100 and just plain rock. With the same standard, they "should" work.
I shouldn't need to buy new headphones because Sony can't play nice with the "standard"

Hello sfai05,
I have got exactly the same problem as you describe .
Did you already manage to fix this? Or do you know what the problem is?
I am looking forward to your response. If I solve the problem myself I will post it here (sadly I'm not very technical minded; maybe that's why I bought those Apple- In-Ear plugs ).
Good luck man.
Armstrong
PS I cannot imagine that there is not a solution to this. Sony cannot be that retarded can they? :S
Sorry for un-burying this topic but I just got an Idea.
Theres some workarounds here to modify some iphone headseats to work perfectly with xperia S.
But in those you have to open the microphone housing and solder some wires and add resistors.
Shouldnt it be possible to just add an extension headset cable which you open and change the wirings and maybe add some resistors?
So pissed, Bought some Pioneer headphones with a compatible with Iphone cable, wont work on my new Xperia S grrrr..
This says it should work??

Hi friends,
I have been using Xperia Arc since July 2011.............the MH650 headset that came with the phone is really good.........but now i notice that the volume in the right part is very low and i do not get good stereo quality now.............so can you suggest any good 2012 Sony in ear headset that can deliver good bass and treble..............i was interested in Live hi fi headset but it seems it is compatible only with xperia arc and nothing else due to the audio connecter model used...............thanks..............
I can say live sound is superb and it's unfortunate that it only works with 2011 xperias, but I use another pair of earphones, which i got for 10 dollars from ebay, for everything else. If you want one pair of headset that works with everything (not just 2011 xperia), you have to buy an adapter from ebay or something
thanks you friend........don't know this happens always with headsets..........the volume drops in one side..........i also use the same headset for my VAIO LAPTOP...........will this be the reason?............due to some voltage varaitions.............am not sure,,,,,,,

I use MH650 headset daily aswell.
I have no problems with it on my Arc S, however using it on my laptop, then I need to insert it not fully, but a bit out, in order to have proper quality.
Try your headset on different devices with different placement. Then you should find your answer.
yes friend..i also insert it onla bit when using my laptop...........have been using for few months......no issues at all........but few days ago i noticed the sound level is low on the right side..........it is like that now also..........so am wondering whether to get a new headset............

will the MH750 work with Xperia Arc? I do not want to go for Live hi-fi as i cannot use it for other phones. so do not want to spend lot of money on it. now 2 options are mh650 or mh750.

you must hold the call button in your headset. Pretty annoying, but works, even on new sony devices, htc, blackberry... (iPhone auto-detect which headset type automatically, magic!)
OMTP vs CTIA headsets
Hey there,
just to avoid confusion... see my comment over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39623224&postcount=10937
Xperia 2011 devices follow the OMTP standard.
Use headset for OMTP accordingly.
While Xperia 2012 will follow the CTIA from now on.
