[Q] How do I delete Clockwork Recovery on Htc Incredible - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can some one help me delete clockwork recovery off of my phone... here is the issue.. my phone is not rooted. I do not know how it happed but it did. I do not have superuser access nor can i download any superuser applications.
fyi... i used unrevoked 3 to try to root my phone and it failed but gave me clockwork recovery
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know exactly what your talking about and its not a big problem at all. Unrevoked3 just hung after installing recovery and never pushed the root files through adb (probably some stupid windows problem).
Now an easy way to get rid of it would be to s-off your phone using the instructions found here:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Once you have s-off download the stock recovery found here and put it on the root of your sdcard: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756850
and boot into hboot by holding volume down and power, then give it a few seconds and it will automatically find the file and ask if you want to install it. push volume up for yes and it will take like 5 seconds and then ask you if you want to reboot. If you want to make sure it worked press no then go to recovery and see if its stock.
If you want to undo s-off (make it s-on which i don't know why you would) the instructions are also on the unrevoked site.

I think you can just rerun the unrevoked tool to get su I think

[Q] How to enter recovery mode in a unrooted EVO?

I recently rooted my EVO and made a backup using rom manager. While I was rooted I was able to enter recovery mode after holding the volume down and pressing the power button. Today, I unrooted my EVO and cant seem to get back into the recovery mode. When I try to do enter recovery mode, I get a symbol of the phone with a red triangle (or something like that). IS there anyway to enter recovery mode (so i can restore my phone to my backup) while unrooted? Thanks
That is recovery... if you want to access the commands hold power then vol up once you are inside that screen, you should get a blue menu with the recovery options.
Oops didnt read the 'unrooted' part... yes once you unroot you lose custom recovery. Ideally you should root your current stock then install your preferred custom recovery and then restore your backup.
When rooted you were using a custom recovery. The only way to get this back is to root the evo. You also can't use nandroid on unrooted phones.

Thanks alot. That did get me in. I was wondering if there is anyway to access my sd card so that i can restore the backup i had made when I was rooted?
Thanks rafroelich. I tried to re-root my phone (after i did the ota update today) using unrevoked and it didnt work.
I was hoping there was a way access my backup from the recovery screen.
Thanks fenixjn. Would you know if it is possible to flash ur backup from the sd card using the computer?
Its just kind of annoying because I can see my backup on my sd card and i was wondering if there was any way to restore it even though I am not rooted right now?
To restore a backup made while rooted, you need to be rooted. To user your backup, you would need to root again, and install a custom recovery.
However, if you have s-off, you should be able to flash the pc36img of the recovery you want (used previously) and restore from there.

If your bootloader still shows S-OFF then you can flash a custom recovery and restore, otherwise you are SOL.

^^ What he said. ^^
If you have unrevoked forever installed, you should still be s-off.
Damn. My bootloader shows S-On after I unrooted the phone. I went back and tried to root the phone after i installed the OTA 3.70 but unrevoked didnt work.
would you know of any programs that allow me to enter into a custom recovery so I can do a nandroid backup restore.

What are your hBoot and Radio versions? You may be able to re-root and install a custom recovery. Even if you unroot as long as you keep the custom recovery it should retain full functionality to do nandroids.

AFAIK there are no other programs other than unrevoked to flash a custom recovery in automated mode from the computer. As an earlier poster said: your best chance is to check your hboot version and see if it is possible to root again using the manual methods like the one for 2.02.
If not them you must wait until someone checks a way to root 3.70 and use stock in the meantime.

It's possible to restore the backup, I don't suggest doing it. If you follow the 2.02 manual root method you can do everything except S-OFF. Since you are HBOOT 2.10 it is slightly more a pain in the rear because you have to do a lot of the steps in terminal emulator on your phone instead of cmd prompt on the computer. In short you can run the rage exploit to get su on terminal and then use terminal to flash the mtd-eng.img. Reboot into bootloader and go to recovery and wait for it to fail out to the red triangle screen. Then you can use your computer command prompt to push recovery, install busybox, and get recovery started. I don't think recovery will stay on after a reboot though because you are S-ON.
It would at least allow you to restore the nandroid backup. However, you are on the new radio files, which means you would have to also flash the new stock kernel or you will get stuck in a boot loop.
You also will not be able to get S-OFF because unrevoked forever is not compatible with the new radio file. And people are having trouble downgrading the radio right now it seems.
xHausx...my hboot version is - 2.10.0001
my radio is - 2.15.00.11.19
Is my best bet to wait until a root comes out for this new version that I installed yesterday?
Its so annoying because I can see my backup there but cant access it. My main issue was that when I unrooted I realized that my contacts where saved on my phone a little bit too late. Now it seems that I cant restore them from my backup until a root is available for this OTA.
I got some great help with this issue on other forums. I was advised that maybe getting an older hboot will help. Does anyone know if it is possible to return to an older hboot so that i can root and enter recovery to restore a backup?

Q: "Validation error: Backup CID is missing" Unrevoked issue

hboot 2.02
hardware 003
Software 3.30
I tried on 2 pcs without luck. Ihave double checked everything but no luck after numerous tries. I have rooted 2 other phones so this isnt my first root. Anyone else been able to get around this issue?
hmmm I booted into hboot and it says S-Off (although its not off) but there is no recovery.
Looks like im up!! My s was off so I manually backed uped my RSA keys just to be safe and proceeded to flash Amon_RA recovery PC36IMG.zip and then I flashed superuser zip and that got me where I needed to go.

but i really could not get what you did to make it work.. lol
it would be of great help if you can help me with it.
hboot 0.93
So your s-off now when you boot into boot loader?
I just flashed the recovery and got back up manually with superuser and busy box. You can download superuser from the market or flash a zip as for busy box I installed through Titanium Backup.
I used this method to get my recovery fixed.

READ THIS GUIDE CAREFULLY SEE POST TWO FOR FAQ OR SEARCH THE THREAD.

FIX BROKEN RECOVERY
This is really only needed if you rooted with one of the previos guides version 6 or lower or if you installed a different recovery like I told you not to. It installs amon_ra 2.2.1
1) Download File PC36IMG_Recovery.zip and Rename to PC36IMG.zip.
copy to the root of your SDCard and power off phone
2) Power your phone back on into the boot loader by holding power and vol-down until your presented with a white screen. It will read the pc36img.zip and as you if you want to flash. Say yes. Then it will ask if you want to reboot, VOL+UP for yes.
3) If your rom gets tossed in the process. Reboot your phone into bootloader select recovery, and reflash your rom....DONE

Hi..could you fix this issue, I wish know how fix it but I only found really old post without solutions...thanks!!!........

trying to figure out flash recovery?

I am trying to root my EVO. I once had it rooted and unrooted it...i think...with unrEVOked. I wanted to root the phone and install a custom rom again but I cant seem to get it to root.
I have tried unrEVOked(and followed all the easy steps to root on a forum....more then once), and once I got the initial screen were it sais to plug the phone in and make sure it has USBdebugging on, I do just that and nothing happens. so....
I tried to use Simple Root .1. Once again, found a forum on how to root with this program and followed the steps...more then once...and still no luck. With Simple Root I watched a video and in the video the prompt screen said that it was pushing a file to the phone and then it is suppose to go to the HBOOT screen....which does not happen on my phone, it skips that step and tells me to go to step 2, but I haven't completed step 1 yet....
------So that problem might not be a problem. I guess I AM still rooted. HBOOT screen sais S-OFF, but i dont have unrevoked on the phone anymore. I was told in another thread that I am still rooted and i need to find a flash recovery because when i go into recovery from HBOOT sceen it gives me a !red triangle!
So i guess my question is how do I go about getting a flash recovery and what do I have to do to acutally use that recovery instead of the stock recovery??
Also i was thinking about using the ROM "EVO ZONE" Any thoughts on that ROM??
Thanks!
dizl.evo
Im guessing you have the latest OTA? If so, you cannot root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176695
This is what i have figured out already.....
I also was doing a little poking around and figured out that i did not have a PC36IMG.zip on my SDcard. I just put it on my card and started HBOOT and now it is asking me if i want to start an update....yes or no?
If that is the recovery zip, then yes let it update
We're comin from a pure power source.
ok, after i do that will i still need to flash recover? or will i be able to find the custom rom then??
And does anybody know anything about the EVO Zone rom?
durring the update it has 11 things that it tries to update....all of them seem to update fine with the exception of number 8 and 9. both are labeled "TP". The first one does nothing and the second one sais it is bypassed. I've tried twice and it keeps bypassing. Is that suppose to happen??
BUMP...Does anybody know if there is anything i can do??
Thanks..
You probably ran a PC36IMG of an RUU or something other than a recovery. You can download Amon Ra recovery from my dropbox here: http://db.tt/WP0beNa
It's named properly, just delete the other PC36IMG from your SD card and replace it with this one. Run it through the bootloader the same way that you ran the other one. When it finishes, decline the prompt to reboot and select recovery from the list. You should see the white splashscreen then boot into Amon Ra 2.3.
As for the rom, I'm not familiar with it. If I were you, I'd flash a popular rom that you know is reliable. If you use the default Sense launcher, be sure to flash a Sense rom.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
I'll try to break this down for you as easily as possible.
1) s-off allows you to flash a custom recovery for installing roms. It means signature off which is to say you can install roms that have not been signed by HTC. This ability is critical to flashing and you're on the right track if you have it.
2) Currently your phone has no custom recovery on it, that's the red triangle bit. In order to get one on there, search the development section for the Amon_Ra recovery and download the PC36IMG.zip. Copy the zip to the main part of your SD card, then reboot and hold the volume key after the screen goes black. Your bootloader (the screen that tells you s-off or on) will automatically read and try to install the file.
Hit volume up for yes, let it do its thing then volume up again to reboot.
3) Hold volume down while rebooting to get into recovery. From here, go to usb mode. Copy your sdcard contents to your hard drive. Then turn off usb mode, go to wipe, and wipe it all 3 times. Go back to usb mode.
4) copy the Rom you want to flash to the sdcard and turn off usb mode again. Go into flash from zip, find your Rom and tell it to flash. Once this is complete, reboot and enjoy the new Rom.
Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for all the help, But when I try and click to download Amon it opens up a blank page and nothing happens....
There any way to download the file else where?
I don't have the link on hand but there is an Amon Thread in the Development section, should be able to download it from there.Edit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026&highlight=amon+ra+recovery here's the link to Amons Thread

I already got S-OFF using revolutionary
I am trying to follow the steps posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745) and I dont understand how to do anything via CWM... I already flashed it succesfully following these instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134520) but I cant figure out how to enter recovery, nothing in ROM manager will work because ""an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"" Yes Rom Manager will not run without root privilege. You need to go into settings and make sure Fastboot is disabled. Then you should be able to boot into the boot loader by holding the Volume Down key and pressing the power button. From the boot padre menu select Recovery
flashed an older version of CWM and then typed adb reboot recovery while it was pointed at folder fastroot was in, now in recovery mode what do I do now? apply update from sdcard?
do the proper wipe procedures then install your rom of choice.
Do you still need help. its pretty straight forward but i could walk you through it

First time rooting

Hi I have Desire Bravo with original stock gingerbread on it, and I download revolutionary and run it, in command window he came to that part waiting for fastboot and he stopped, I disconnect him and find out that I forgot to install htc usb drivers for and after I install them when I run revolutionary and he wont move from waiting for device.... and nothing is happening, can someone help me I don't know what to do usb debbuging is ON and unknown sources two, I tried to uninstall drivers but nothing same thing waiting for device... help
Install drivers using this.
EDIT:
It wasn't working with your method but tnx, I browse manually to drivers from HTCDriver3.0.0.007 and it's okay now.
But it's wierd he done all he had to do it is saying revolutionary (pink) in hboot but I still can access hboot by pressing power button+volume down key I have to open revolutionary.exe and then he download something from internet clock.... something (I tried to put N - as No and he says that there is no recovery. We advise you to flash a recovery manually from fastboot), and then he put me in hboot and in hboot when I press shutdown then I can access hboot again but when I do shutdown from phone I can't, and when I boot it up there is no superuser...
No superuser? I guess you didn't do your homework then.
