[Q] Need Help Rooting My DINC2 S-OFF - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I already got S-OFF using revolutionary
I am trying to follow the steps posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745) and I dont understand how to do anything via CWM... I already flashed it succesfully following these instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134520) but I cant figure out how to enter recovery, nothing in ROM manager will work because ""an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"" Thanks!

Yes Rom Manager will not run without root privilege. You need to go into settings and make sure Fastboot is disabled. Then you should be able to boot into the boot loader by holding the Volume Down key and pressing the power button. From the boot padre menu select Recovery

flashed an older version of CWM and then typed adb reboot recovery while it was pointed at folder fastroot was in, now in recovery mode what do I do now? apply update from sdcard?

do the proper wipe procedures then install your rom of choice.

Do you still need help. its pretty straight forward but i could walk you through it

When do I run the Revolutionary pre4 file?
You shouldnt have to run a file. Just start up the program, plug your phone in with USB debugging on and let it do its thing.
Are you saying I don't need to run fastboot?
I D/L'd the pre3 file, plugged in my phone with USB debugging on, it just says "waiting for device".
What do I need to do BEFORE running the Revolution pre3 program?

If you are on windows then install appropriate drivers.
I think from what times said it has to be pre 2. And You cant mount the sd card. And you need to have the right HTC drivers installed
You also have to have fastboot turned off which is under power.
Can anyone tell me where I can download the drivers. I can't get revolutionary to detect my device.

I've been reading the forums for awhile waiting for s-off to be achieved and I just want to verify that this process will just simply root my stock 2.3.3. I don't want to flash a new ROM, I'm happy with the stock experience but I just want to be able to use Titanium Backup and freeze programs as I see fit like I did on my Fascinate.
Will this indeed just put SU/root into my stock without having to flash a new ROM?

No but it does get you started down that road. This will give you S-Off which will then allow you to install ClockworkMod which will then allow you to flash su and root your current ROM.
Here is what I did:
1. Installed HTC fastboot drivers (download link was on Revolutionary documentation wiki).
2. Connected phone in Charge mode.
3. Ran Revolutionary. It crashed installing CWM Recovery.
4. Ran it again, said the phone was already S-OFF but let me try to flash the CWM Recovery again. This time it worked.
5. Downloaded the SU binary from that same documentation wiki page.
6. Rebooted and went into recovery (make sure that Fastboot is unchecked in the settings).
7. Flashed the SU binary. Phone is now rooted.
8. Downloaded and installed Busybox and ROM Manager.
9. Badda bing.
10. Badda boom.
Hope this helps!
only works on Gingerbread now!
So if I get a DInc 2 with 2.2, do I have to ota the thing to GB to use this?
Thanks...

Yes. The exploit only works on GB.
I am stuck at "Waiting for Device" after running the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Any ideas?
I attempted to do it on my own but i must of messed up half way where my computer wouldn't recognize my phone but i did get S-off but didn't get CWM on it and ended up just factory resetting. I was also wondering if I do root will I be able to switch back and forth from say CM7 to MIUI or back to stock and still have everything setup already?

Yes. ROM Manager gives you the option to make a backup of everything before it flashes the new ROM.

First time rooting

Hi I have Desire Bravo with original stock gingerbread on it, and I download revolutionary and run it, in command window he came to that part waiting for fastboot and he stopped, I disconnect him and find out that I forgot to install htc usb drivers for and after I install them when I run revolutionary and he wont move from waiting for device.... and nothing is happening, can someone help me I don't know what to do usb debbuging is ON and unknown sources two, I tried to uninstall drivers but nothing same thing waiting for device... help
Install drivers using this.
EDIT:
It wasn't working with your method but tnx, I browse manually to drivers from HTCDriver3.0.0.007 and it's okay now.
But it's wierd he done all he had to do it is saying revolutionary (pink) in hboot but I still can access hboot by pressing power button+volume down key I have to open revolutionary.exe and then he download something from internet clock.... something (I tried to put N - as No and he says that there is no recovery. We advise you to flash a recovery manually from fastboot), and then he put me in hboot and in hboot when I press shutdown then I can access hboot again but when I do shutdown from phone I can't, and when I boot it up there is no superuser...
No superuser? I guess you didn't do your homework then.

No. You will need to flash this zipfile from recovery.

Half way unrooted

Hi,
I was rooted with S-OFF, super CID etc. and decided to unroot. Looks like I made a mess of it, since I flashed the lasted RUU (RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe) via HTC Sync.
So I lost root, super cid and clockworkmod. But I still have Radio S-OFF.
What is the easiest/safest way to get back to full root?
thanx.
PS. My device is from November 2011, so I guess it shipped with Froyo.
Download Rooted version RUU 3.12.*** full version
1.Boot your phone in recovery mode (vol down + power)
2.Wipe data Factory Reset
3.Wipe Cache partition
4.Install Zip from SD card .... wait Finish
5.Restart
then flash rom what you wanted.

Forget about Froyo....you are running GB now so that is the important thing. To get back root just flash Superuser app and update the binary. Then reboot and you should have root...to get CWM back, you have to flash it in fastboot....if you need help send me a PM and will guide you.
Remember OP has lost ClockworkMod too... OP you need to reflash ClockworkMod before you can follow those instructions. Just flash it the same way you did in the first place, using fastboot is the most reliable way to do it, I'd link you but I'm not allowed yet. Google if you need help though, there's loads of tutorials. You basically just hold power + down volume when booting your phone, select and click "fastboot", then plug the phone into your computer, open a command prompt (you need the Android SDK installed) and type "fastboot flash recovery [path to your recovery file]" and you're done.

He won't be able to flash recovery in that way as he is S-OFF and not ENG S-OFF...he needs to flash it in other way...but it is possible. That is why I invited him to send me a PM just to lend him a hand....

[Q] [HELP] Performed wipe, accidentally rebooted before flash. Bricked?

Running CWM 3.x.x from DHD release
Downloaded CWM 5.8.1.5 zip and 'flash' using install zip util on 3.x but when I went back into recovery it was still 3.x
Didn't realise it was 3.x so I wiped then full wiped etc, then realised 3.x so ran 5.x install again
Decided to reboot to make sure 5.x had installed BUT I hadn't yet flashed a ROM on!
Stuck at HTC screen, have a broken 'DOWN' button so I can't boot into recovery and I can't get into Android and reboot to recovery for obvious reason
Please please can someone help? I just need to get back into recovery to flash.
If it helps, I'm on OS X but I have access to Windows and iirc Ubuntu
Danke
Adb reboot recovery...i dont think you bricked...why dont you use 4ext

So to clarify. You tried to flash the CWM5 recovery.zip from CWM3 recovery, but it failed? You could try to fastboot flash the recovery.img from your computer. Also, are you S-On or S-Off?
To reboot into recovery connect to computer and from cmd type "adb reboot bootloader."

My volume down button is broken so I can't access anything on the device. Yes I tried to flash 5 from 3 and it failed.
I'm fairly sure I'm s off. When I rooted etc I used the phone only method so I didn't need adb. Will I need to download anything?

Take a look at your bootloader info. If it show 'ace pvt __ s-off, means that it is s-off.
Fail in flashing rom sometimes hinting that there is something wrong with hardware. Unfortunately our hardware expert is no longer here.

[Q] How do I push a stock recovery to my HTCone using ADB?

So I admit I screwed up and started the whole root process without reading and studying about adb. What happened was I enabled developer mode and disabled fast boot on my HTCone. I then tried to use the rumrunner root method. It was successful and gave me S-off, unlock and SUser. Where I failed at was just coming over from an iPhone and having a HTC Evo in the past I was not familiar with adb or have I done any development. So I didn't even have adb set up and it left me with my custom recovery. I let a friend look at it that had some linux experience and he deleted my stock recovery and tried to push the TeamWin Recovery Project recovery to my phone. This failed and left me with no recovery at all. I then still not knowing what was going on got frustrated and tried to remove root and just run everything stock till I studied up more. Well I removed root access but I still have s-off, fastboot and unlocked. Since I had no recovery I can not do anything but run what I have on my phone now. I did however do a backup of everything before this using titanium backup. But my understanding you have to have root to use it.
Since my screw up I have studied up on adb and installed everything needed. I have played around with it just without making changes just to get familiar and test if it was working. I tried to use rumrunner again but it fails at the end but does connect to adb now.
What I need to know is can I push my stock recovery back to my phone via adb then try to use rumrunner again for root? Or what can I do since S-off and unlocked?
I admit I pulled an idiot move and will study and learn the whole process before doing anything new.
Thanks in advance for all help.
I have the 1.10.605.8 software version and I'm on Android 4.2.2
You didnt really do anything to your device honestly.. Its pretty much untouched, for root, simply download superuser from playstore, rumrunner is manily for the s off , bootloader. Also head over to original android development section and install twrp recovery.
Use flashify from playstore to flash recovery if you like aswell instead of adb.

First, take a deep breath! Everything will be OK. As digitalbot mentioned, you phone should be fine.
Some clarification first. You do not use adb to flash a recovery, kernel, or anything else. That's fastboot and you'll be doing that from the bootloader, not while booted in the OS. Fastboot does not work while in the OS, adb does not work while in the bootloader. Since you were able to use rumrunner, adb and fastboot should already be installed on your computer and working. Now, understand that the fast boot that you disabled to use rumrunner is not the same as the fastboot that you use to to communicate between your computer and phone. Similar term, but completely and unrelated things.
Sounds like you are still s-off so no need to use rumrunner again. You mention having a custom recovery. Did you install it? Rumrunner does not install a custom recovery so unless you did, you still have stock recovery. To verify, plug in your phone to your computer and open a command prompt and type "adb reboot recovery." Phone your reboot to recovery. What recovery does it boot? If it's not TWRP or CWM, find a custom recovery in the forum (I use TWRP) and follow the instructions there to flash it to your phone from the bootloader. You'll do that with fastboot not adb.
Now for root, verify that you do not have root. Install a root checker from the playstore and check. If you don't have root, you'll have to flash SuperSU from recovery so go to http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu and download SuperSU to your phone. Reboot your phone to recovery and install the zip. You should now be rooted, double check with root checker. Now go to the playstore and install SuperSU to stay up to date.
Not sure if I covered all your questions, so post back if you still need clarification. Good luck!
Thanks guys!
I was able to install TWRP and also Superuser the same way.
Here are the instructions I used. Maybe they will help someone else like me.
Power off your device, then press and hold Power and Volume Down until you're in the bootloader menu. Highlight FASTBOOT and press Power. You should see Fastboot USB highlighted in red.
Open a command prompt on your computer and navigate to your SDK directory. Type "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and hit Enter.
Then I backed up my stock rom using TWRP
In TWRP's main menu, tap Reboot. It will tell you that you're not rooted and ask you to install SuperSU, so swipe to confirm. When you reboot your phone, you should see a notification that you need to install the SuperSU app. Open the notification and select TWRP, since the app from Google Play only works with S-OFF.
Worked flawlessly.
I installed NuSenseONE max and I love it so far. :good:
Oh of course I downloaded the latest TWRP build and renamed it before I copied it over.
Good work, yeah not really that tough, now accidently wipe your internal storage and flash a RUU, fun all over again haha
