HTC Tilt2 (AT&T) Official ROM Update 2.10.502.4 - Issues, Tweaks, Mods and Fixes - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

This thread is for the HTC Tilt2 (AT&T) Official ROM Update 2.10.502.4 issues, tweaks, mods and fixes
thank you to everyone who has submitted your issues and those who have had fixes for us! keep up the great work!
I will try to organize any tweaks, mods or fixes in this thread in the first couple posts for easy access.
There are threads in the Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development forums but being that the ROM is already developed. I thought it best that the thread be in this, the General forum.
Here are a couple of the original threads in the Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development forums:
HTTP://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737168 : New ATT Tilt2 ROM
HTTP://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739412 : Cabs and Tweaks for New Official Tilt 2 Rom - this is in General but at the time i did this post i thought it was in ROM Development
If anyone has an issue, tweak, mod or fix feel free to add to the thread so i can keep this thread up to date, let’s try to make this as complete as possible!
I would like to keep the fixes and mods as easy as possible... E.g. installing a rom. the reason for this is to make the tweaks, mods and fixes easily accessible to new users. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

-Issues
----------
HTC Album Cache - the HTC Album cache gets really huge, especially when you look at facebook albums. If anyone knows how to move the cache to the storage card that information would be greatly appreciated.
Text Message Notification - when the message pops up on the bottom of screen some people only have the option to "hide" the message on the left...the "View" message option that was usually on the right is gone.
HTC Messaging - How can I get rid of "HTC Messaging?" I just want the old Microsoft text messaging back (ie, spell check, clear "to" field, etc)!
T-Mobile MMS Setings - i Cant setup mms settings for tmobile! please help. htc connections setup didnt help!

Move Opera Cache to Storage Card - Open Opera, and type "opera:config" in the address bar. You'll then be in the config page, find the section "User Prefs". In there, you should find something called "Cache Directory4". Just change that path to any directory in your storage card (for example: "\Storage Card\OperaCache"). Scroll down and click on save changes.
Saving Rom Space - when installing programs from the MSFT Marketplace you can go in to settings and chance the install destination from the phone to the storage card
HTC Sense Twitter Tab error - HTC and twitter have resolved this issue, there has been an exception to the twitter API policy for certain software.

first issue -
so i have updated to the latest official rom and its great, been holding off on moddin it but i have an issue where it keeps telling me the memory is full, the HTC Album cache has over 20 mb in it so i emptied it but it would be nice to be able to move the cache to the storage card so i won't have this issue in the future. i think this has a little to do with the facebook integration, can anyone help me here? i found a thread dealing with this issue on the hd2 but it looke like its specific to the hd2's album... ||| http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=600578 ||| sorry for the copy paste link... i can't post links yet as a newer member thank you in advance for any help

second issue -
drop down task manager is missing, there is a task manager app in the programs and its great for ending tasks and processes, infact i programmed it to the ptt button but i cant jump from one task to another from there. anyone know how to get the good old dropdown task manager back?

i looked all around and didn't see anything, can you link it?

Must not have looked too hard, it's on the 1st page. Here's the main one, but there are others. This new ROM on the HTC site is the same as the one leaked a month ago.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737168

i thought fixes and tweaks were supposed to go in the general thread and not the rom thread but oh well... thanks for the info!

There is this existing thread in here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739412

i think i'm going to go ahead and post the information in here anyways, the other two threads are long in the tooth and i have to go searching through them to get useful info. its always nice to have something easy to read but i will also link to them in the op

testing link, worked now i can fix the OP

Add to problems. I can't enter a domain name in active sync. This really sucks!! I fixed my mistake. I was putting my email address for the user name which in turn greyed out the domain name.

well i guess that's not an issue i can add but glad you got it fugured out. i hope to hear more from everyone about their issues and tweaks. i would love to add more to the top post!

What sucks about this updated ROM!
1. Anyone noticed that entering letters in the To: field on SMS or email no-longer starts the auto-search?
2. Or that you can no-longer simply swipe from email to SMS messages?
3. And if I can't get rid of that GD SMS Sent notification I swear I'll go buy and iPhone!

I'm Not having any issues with the sms/e-mail auto search and i'm not quite sure what you mean about the swiping from sms to e-mail and vice-versa but i concur, the sent notification is anoying as hell, i'll see if i can figure that one out.
on another note does anyone have a link to the task 29 program thread? i want to learn about it cause i see it all over the place.
edit 1 -
ok so i learned that task 29 requires hspl and i prefer to keep my phone stock and then customize it, i am currious if there is any way to basicaly format my fone to nothing and then install the new update. i want to do this to make sure i am starting fresh. the reason i am lead to believe i'm not starting fresh is because certain programs have memory of my login after flashing to the new rom... any ideas or thoughts?

Could be that you installed them to your memory card and that info is in a config file there. Or in a cache folder.

actually i formatted the sd card and i didn't have anything installed on it so that's not it. if there is certain folders to empty before flashing the ROM agian that would be cool info to know

What happened to spell check in SMS?
Am I missing something, or has the spell check disappeared from (now HTC) SMS? I nead it. Thanks in advance.

Cool tweaks

READ THIS BEFORE POSTING! FAQ

This FAQ will be updated as more common questions are found!
I hope this will help cut down the number of threads that just pop up with the same old questions! PM me or post if you have something that you think should be added.
Made sure you have the newest .net frameworks installed on your computer before you try to do anything!
You can get it here!
Custom RRU and other things will NOT run without this installed on the computer you are trying to flash from.
Basic Troubleshooting and how to ask questions
¤Do these first
Soft reset your device
Check there is no other programs conflicting
Check if there is a newer version of your program that fixes the bugs, same goes for roms.
¤How to ask questions
If all else fails and you need to ask a question, at least do it in a way that makes it easy for us to help you.
Tell us what rom you are running.
What radio you are running
The above two points is why most people have there device info in there sigs.
Dont just say "it doesn't work" tell us what happens, is there any errors?
What have you done to try to fix it? Have you googled and checked this FAQ first?
What device do you have? The Hermes comes under many different names, tell us
Anything else you think that might help, the more info we have the better!
Roms
¤I want a rom, where can I find the best roms?
See this sticky here or see the list below this FAQ that zocster will be starting and maintaining (Should be more upto date).
¤I want a fast rom! Give me SPEED!
You can see here for some info,
And here is my own benchmark thread
¤English isnt my native language, are there roms out there in other languages?
This is an english forum, but there are roms cooked for other languages, here is a Spanish rom and a polish rom, finaly, schaps's roms are available in English and French
Also, here is a thread for a Japanese rom
And now a Italian rom
And a beta of a Czech rom
A cab patch for Chinesein WM6
If you want to do it yourself, You can translate WM into your own language, here though this thread isnt much help for the average user.
¤Will this rom work on my AT&T 8525/ect?
The first thing you see under the devices HTC codename is the list of names its sold under, YES the 8525 is a Hermes!
¤What version of hardSLP do i need? Whats it do?
HardSPL helps prevent bricking your phone though bad blocks, and superCID’s your phone to allow you to flash a custom Rom. Get it here
¤Where do I find my carriers “shipped” rom? And what is it?
This is a rom that a carrier puts out rather than a cooked (custom) one, see here
¤Whats RBSC/RBSC/NBSC/NBCN mean?
RBSC - Real Big Storage Compressed
¤ More storage space than normal
¤ Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ More snappy and responsive
¤ Less stable
¤ Requires the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ No extended ROM
RBSN - Real Big Storage Normal
¤ More storage space than normal
¤ No Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ More snappy and responsive
¤ Less stable
¤ Requires the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ No extended ROM
NonRBSC - Non Real Big Storage Compressed
¤ Doesn't have more storage space than normal
¤ Extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ Not so snappy and responsive
¤ More stable
¤ Doesn't require the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ Extended ROM
NonRBSN - Non Real Big Storage Normal
¤ Doesn't have more storage space than normal
¤ No extra storage space because of being compressed
¤ Not so snappy and responsive
¤ More stable
¤ Doesn't require the installation of an original carrier ROM before installation in order to avoid system freeze and spontaneous Hard Resets
¤ Extended ROM
To check if your rom is BS look in settings/system/memory ... if it is big storage it will have over 70 mb Free program memory.
When you are flashing your shipped rom, use dutty's good NHB tool to extract the carriers NBH, then put it back together without the radio, due to the dangers of flashing your radio over and over again. "nbhtool.exe" which is the tool, is attached zipped to the last post.
or here is the rom with the radio striped out (by me).
I myself use this, and im not on AT&T.. it was just the first stock rom I downloaded and stripped, it really doesnt matter where you live. The reason for doing this, is its quicker, you dont need to reflash the radio( Just the OS and extended rom), and radio flashing can also lead to bricks if you get an error midflash!
See here for more info
You should do this everytime you move from a bigstorage rom to another bigstorage, you will be fine going stock --> bigstorage, and you should be fine going bigstorage --> normal cooked, but sometimes its better safe than sorry! (I flash shipped when im planning on keeping a rom for some time, even if im going to a non BS cooked)
¤What is a "naked"/"lite" rom?
This means that the rom is as "lite" as possible, that it doesn't contain any/much extra software, normally designed to give you as much program and storage memory, to allow you to load the apps you want to use rather than using what the chef thinks are the best.
Radios
¤Will flashing a new radio solve my problems with Wifi/slow SMS/poor signel/Slow 3G?
Your radio rom only affects GSM/UTMS signal quality and speed, as well as call drop-outs can be palatially due to having a old radio. So, if your having slow 3G, poor signal, or lots of drop-outs, look into flashing a new radio.
¤Whats the best radio rom for me?
This depends, on where you live and what carrior, lots of people like the newest radio here and there is a thread about the radios that use the least power here.
¤Where do I find a radio rom?
All radios are here
¤Is flashing a Radio rom more dangerous than flashing a rom? If so, why and what can i do to protect myself as much as i can?
Yes, a lot more, if the flash gets interupted you could brick your radio. The best way to flash a radio is via the SD card method (see flashing section of this FAQ).
¤Noo! Im to late, my radios bricked, what do i do?
Well, see this thread here for help unbricking.
¤Best radio for XXXX countery
Best radio for South Africa
Best radio for Belgium
Flashing
¤How do I Flash a rom?
You need to flash HardSPL first, then download a custom rom of your choice, and flash via the Custom RRU or the SD card method.
¤What is the SD card method?
This is flashing your rom from your SD card, this is safer than using a USB cable, as there is less chance of disconnection ect. See here here
¤DAM! My phones broken, but I need to send it back to my carrior/ect for warranty, Dam how do i restore my phones SPL ect?
See mrvanx's guide on this here
¤My phones a brick! something went wrong, help!
This is a list of all the brick types that are known and how to fix them
¤Im geting random hard resets and other bugs, and im using a BS rom, whats wrong?
You didnt read the advice in post #1, flash a stock rom, for example this stripped one.
¤Why does this happen?
The idea floating around, and as explained by mrvanx is that as we are abusing the area of memory that is normally the extended rom, the memory setup gets a bit messy, so flashing a stock rom with extended rom overwrites everything back to how it was supposed to be, helping to improve stability. A stock rom is like a spring clean for the phone.
Bugs, Fixes, and Tweaks
¤Help, my 8525’s keyboard is wrong, what do i do? / How do I change advanced settings? / I want my keyboard to be in the German style.
Get Schap’s Advanced configuration Tool from here and here is a post with a cab for German keyboard layout.
¤What's the page pool? What does it do? How do I change it?
The page pool is Ram that windows uses as a cache, the more you have the faster windows should be running apps, but the less memory you will have for programs. Most roms come with a 6meg pool. To change the page poll BEFORE you flash the rom, use this tool, you cant change the page pool post flash.
Also see this thread for a good discussion on the topic

This version of Opera is so far the only one I have found that works with the keyboard, Thanks Josh!

I use Build 1957 myself, as i find the newer 2000+ builds do not support the landscape keyboard again (I have tried both of the builds at there at time of writing this).
¤But thats an old version of Opera mobile! I want a newer one!
Download this for build 1930 or this for build 1780, extract the 3 EXE's and replace the once in /windows with them (After you install the cab of cause)

This seems is to-do with a driver issue, see this thread for more info and it seems the cab "HTC_Hermes_WiFi_drivers.cab" fixes this as seen in this post of the thread the cab is also attached to post #4 of this thread.
¤My Hermes wont change from this random USB cable? Why?
This is because HTC uses custom wiring in cables that come with the phone, it seems to work if you plug it in and then soft reset with the cable still in.

This seems to have been resolved in this post here.

¤Does the Hermes support SDHC cards (4gig and up micro SD)?
Yes, in some WM6 and 6.1 roms that add the drivers to support it, but this is only in software, the bootloader doesn't support them, so you cant flash from a SDHC card.

My to-do list:
Measure Idle and full speed file download power consumption on a few radios (new Thread)(This isnt going to get done I dont think.. to much risk flashing all the radios myself.. and it varies so much across the world..)
Radio Example:
Radio: 1.47.30.10
Location: England, East Anglia
Carrier: T - Mobile
Signal when testing: 4bars HSDPA
Rom: CRC V12.9BS Naked
Idle consumption: 40mA (leave the phone in the same place for 5min ish and take the average)
Radio on idle consumption: dial upto 3g then leave the phone in the same place and take the average.
Load consumption:415mA (use the dsl report mobile speed test, 1 meg file, and watch the meter, take the highest it goes)
Any notes: Kept poping between 3G and HSDPA.
I hope Im not going to upset/offend anyone with this, im just looking to make a roundup of all the info out there, and put down answers to all the questions I had when I first for my device, I know the radio testing has been done before, but it seems mrvanx has left us, or is leaving us for the Touchpro.
If this has helped you, or you like what I do, pleases consider sending me a small donation, any amount is very gratefully received.
Awesome effort
Hope one of the mods will make this a sticky, as most punters don't like reading, and don't go to wiki. Also translators would be helpful. I speak English and Indonesian/ broken Malay. Anyway as we are trying to keep this thread as UP TO DATE as possible, I am going to post the most recent and active chefs on the hermes forum.
RIP Marahox - he has left us for the raphael (traitor! ) anyway hope you enjoy your new toy buddy.
The latest 20753 by DVH - as this is the most recent build that the chefs here have managed to port, this is a super storage ROM, and possibly compressed, so if you are not adventurous, don't go this way.
PDA Corner 20748 - latest build, with a variety of flavours, for the adventurous and the conservative (being super storage, compressed, and normal) if you like older builds you can go to his old thread.
Starbase64 thanks for the great ROM and excellent cabs collection! And starbase's new release here!
CRCinAU 20270 Development ROM and CRCinAU 20270 gone stable ROM - this guy never cease to amaze me. Stable and fast ROM, with intuitive device update wizard.
I wish to extend my warmest welcome to two new chefs!
Anryl and JoshKoss new talents that the hermes world are happy to have!
Geez don't these two newbies ever sleep? Anryl just came up with a new 20748 build already, and so has joshkoss, ... their wives need to strap them to a chair?
Anryl has a CZ project going, visit here, for those come from CZ!
And how can I forget our order what you want chef, kareem9nba that is when he gets his laptop back, hopefully later this week!
And for those wanting some international flavour
Here is a Polish and a Spanish ROM (which I believe he is no longer cooking for the hermes either), and before you know it a new chef comes out with ITALIAN Rom
I am looking forward to some old chef that are returning, I can't mention names. If you are looking for an older ROM, don't forget to visit the first sticky!
so you've made it... thanks! I hope this will put an end to the endless tiny questions... if any need for translations is required, I might help with German and Arabic. thanks again

De-brand your Orange / T-Mo etc. device via nandroid!

I posted a virgin, generic nandroid backup and instructions on how to restore it here:

P
other than the obvious benefits of doiing this will it also remove the t-mobile splashes?
Well, this version seems more stable than the stock Orange rom....
for example, when in the compose sms section, when typing someones name in...rather than doing "correction" style numbers, it actually has a drop-down list with names and numbers.
Seems faster, overall, and nice to have standard set of bookmarks!
Will report more in due course.

My Orange Hero does and has always done that.
Paul, any chance of a real dummies guide in how to do this please ? Why the need to download your archive and also the patched one ? Or am I missing something ?? Sorry all this hacking is very new - with Nokia you just change the product code to allow you to update to the latest firmware.
At the time of an HTC update for the Hero, I can guarantee Orange will take weeks and months and more likely never approve the update... and to have these bug fixes would be essential to ensuring continued please with my Hero.
All done don't no if its in my head but it now seem more responsive compared to the Orange flavour.
Thanks Paul
Hmm I got this nandroid working but I could root / access as superuser on my hero anymore, and re-rooting it doesn't work. Any idea?
edit - Sorry, it was my fault, forgot to enable USB debugging after the flash, silly me!.

I'm glad you mentioned it... I have noticed a difference too.. I have also noticed a longer battery life... I have disabled 3g and have removed BBC widget and am using my phone as normal now (not using it every 2 mins cos I love the phone!!!)

I am new to using ASUS phone, so had some questions if you could kindly answer them for me. What I have is an ASUS P565 phone and I would like to know what are the advantages of switching to this new ROM release. Sorry I am new to this, so would like to know if there are any real benefits before thinking about flashing it to the new ROM. Thanks in advance. Awaiting your reply.

I guess you have already answered your question. Unless you really feel p**d off with what you currently have, there is no need to flash new ROMs. Moreover, flashing is all about trying new things, so if you don't feel the urge to try out new ROMs, well; not needed.
To add to that, I guess I already mentioned pretty much in detail what this ROM has( utilities, free RAM/storage,etc.) So flash it only if you feel you need the stuff.

Hello Rishi,
Thank you for your reply and I really appreciate your effort in providing people with this new ROM. I guess you are right about the fact that I should be flashing the ROM if i really want to try things out differently. I definitely want to try out your ROM however I would like to know if there is a way i can reset the phone with my previous ROM if something were to go wrong. Also I want to know what exactly is the root directory of storage mentioned in the steps for flashing the ROM. Sorry to be a pain but I am very new to this.
Thanks.

Regarding fonts, I guess there is a registry hack to change the font size. For the three-digits issue, need to check as I am using a server-assigned IP ( which I have pre-allocated in the wireless router itself against my phone's MAC address). In effect, this works like a static IP only.

Thank You, rishi2504!
I fix fonts problem in 2 steps.
1st. using these tools:
ChangeFonts v0.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416325)
nueFonts-100-v1.0
http://forum.smartphonejunkie.com/f551/neu-fonts-change-ur-old-boring-fonts-174628/
2nd. Start menu fonts size:
by editing
\Windows\StartMenu_GridScene_480x640.cpr
\Windows\StartMenu_GridScene_640x480.cpr
FontFamily="Tahoma" FontSize="7" -> FontFamily="Tahoma" FontSize="9"
Hmmm... after hard reset IP settings issue is fixed. I don't know what exactly is happening, but now problem is gone...
If You want to free some RAM, use SKTolls to delete registry entries for unused today plugins (or manually delete the registry keys).

Pls. ensure you give your feedback , even if there were no issues found on the ROM.. helps me know whether people are interested or not

[ROM] 2-18-10 Egzthunder1's 28230 (MetroPCS) - Clean Version

Busy day today
Anyways, I decided to discontinue 25005 since it had a graphical bug, which after spending several hours looking for answers, I couldn't fix...
So, here is the newest build (yes, even newer than 25005)
Build log is pretty much the same as 25005 but with a few exceptions
*Increased pagepool size to 18 MB!
*New Build 25005 (no clue about which COM branch it belongs to, so please don't ask )
*Added Bing
*MSN Widgets are Back
*Removed Opera since there is a newer version out there (with Flash support!). I haven't gotten the cab, so I will let you all install it and let me know
*Internet Sharing Added
*FaceBook Mobile is Back!
*Added QuickGPS (for faster lockons... or so I hear)
*Dialer Lag is gone!!!
*The only extra that I don't like (and I did not put in) was haptic feedback when touching the start menu. If anyone knows how to get rid of this... please.
Click to collapse
Removed
*Showcase
*Mega dialer (simply left stock). Probably will try to use the GSM dialer from NFS's thread.
*Added Arcsoft MMS to UC Folder
*Added Netfront Concept 4 (latest one) to UC (replace with your choice of browser if you like something else). I find Opera very hard to use without an accelerometer and a scroll wheel, so I decided not to cook it in.
*Updated GoogleMaps to the latest publicly available
*I added a pretty cool looking theme for 6.5 but it was the cause for my funny looking icons and scrollbars, so use at your own risk.
Without Further ado, here is the LINK

[highlight]Your device must be unlocked for this to work. If you don't know how to unlock it, there is a link on my signature with a guide on how to do this. Also, this is only for the HTC Vogue - which is a CDMA device (no SIM card). It will NOT work for any device that doesn't fall under this. Not sure if you have a Vogue? Go to the WIKI and find out. Drop the XDA_UC folder located in the rar file onto the root of your SD card. Flash and soft reset. The UC process will start upon second boot. You can add/remove any cabs that you want to (or not want) so that the system will install them automatically.

It should as long as you install the Verizon provisioning cab over top NFSFan's roms are built for Bell by default but they run fine on other carriers. I'm not sure if there is something special about MetroPCS that would cause issues but I think you should be fine.

Right on the money. I will put a link to Codybear's post, which has most of the carrier specific cabs. Thanks for the reminder, cod!

Which instructions do you follow for Verizon? The ones he has listed or the ones he links to in NFSFan's ROM post?

The instructions for Verizon that cody gave seem pretty much on the money from what I have read. Try that and if it doesn't work, let me know and I'll get you something else . BTW, the MMS composer in the UC folder is preset for VZW, you may not need to do anything...

what vibration??
If you got my 25005, there is a fix for it (you have to edit the registry in a couple of places), which I posted on that thread (it is related to Showcase and it was driving me nuts too ). My advise would be to go with 28230. It seems a bit more stable...
Ouch my bad
Sorry, but I've flash my phone at least 5 times this week, and incorrectly identified the current rom. I need to flash to this one. My Bad

Well, it is Friday, in Miami with no moon at all
I've got it up and running this afternoon. Here's s couple of thoughts & questions:
#1) I couldn't get your included ROMUpdateUtility.exe to run on Vista. I just dropped the nbh file in a folder from another rom and it flashed fine. I may have had a corrupted download, but it all extracted fine.
#2) CM Internet Sharing and ICS Control, are these useful on a phone without wifi? I'm curious to know how they can be used.
#3) I'm an EzInput bigot. I still think you should add it
#4) You have a lot of config utils included. Not sure how easy it is to do when cooking, but you might want to throw those in the Tools folder in the start menu. I doubt 90% of users would touch those.
Good job, thanks for cooking these for us.
Is anyone else having marketplace problems in this build? Seems to be slower when running, and I've had several "server" errors..

I am getting intermittent networking issues on Bell for the last 24hrs. I was blaming it on the ISP...maybe its a problem with 28230
