I hope you realize there's a good chance you won't be able to root after you install this?

Downloading froyo 2.2 now from Asia. HK purchase from Australia. I'm sure they will find a way to root it...eventually.

you will lose root and can not force the apps to be installed on SD.

hi
where can i download htc desire asia version froyo update (i am using an india version. but it cannot see any update from air)
thanks!

My friend has HTC Desire Asian edition.
When manually checking continually it says that phone is up-to-date.
How do we update to Froyo?
Note: We are doing this over WIFI and we can't connect to Gtalk

you sure you're not already rooted or on custom firmware? if yes you wont get the updates

OTA is going to take a while... Over The Air update is only possible when HTC releases the update theru the carrier that you are on.. in your case.. when Airtel agrees with HTC to release, only then you will have the OTA update to 1.72... officially.. yes unofficially u can get it... but be careful, if you do the 1.72 update you wont be able to root your device.. YET!
Cheers!
I got my Desire HD from UK and its updated to 1.72, my carrier is Vodafone.
I didn't buy my phone from Airtel so I don't think I gotta wait for Airtel to approve the update .

I asked HTC India and this is their reply
To clarify your issue, you stated that: You want to know the launch date of Android 2.2.1 for HTC desire HD.
In this regard we would like to intimate you that.Android 2.2.1 currently is no such information when Android 2.2.1 will launched in India. When it will available in India then you can find on HTC India web site. www.htc.com/in

Did you get the update through Vodafone, while in India? Or did you get the update while in UK?

Mate , only if your phone is locked to a carrier is when you gotta wait for the Carrier ( Vodafone, O2 , T-Mobile) to release the software update. For users in country like India , the updates are never dependant on the carrier.
For example , i bought my Google Nexus One from the United States unlocked . The moment Google released 2.2 and 2.2.1 i got the OTA update on my phone.
Its just that HTC India hasnt released the update for DHD's , btw dont waste your time by asking HTC India , they are useless.
I guess its better to play the waiting game.
Its gonna take a while for the update in INDIA!
The problem z HTC INDIA is different from HTC Asia!
So we need 2 get a seperate update from HTC!
As far as I know 1.72 got pulled from all markets due to bugs. If this is correct I don't think you will ever see 1.72 officially as htc develops are now hard at work and focussed on Gingerbread.
Sent from my Desire HD pocket rocket.
The 1.72 update and the 1.8 update was not released in India.
Rather we will see a direct update to Gingerbread so you need not worry about 2.2 updates.

I don't think that DHD is sold in India locked to the service providers. All DHDs are unlocked. So as soon as India -specific region update comes up they will pass it on through OTA.

Apparently HTC has pulled off the 1.72 updates as a lot of people were having problems with the SD card failing. I believe HTC are working on another OTA to fix it and will be rolling out soon.
I belive update was removed from HTC and it was removed with reason. You should read this link for more informations. I am as well on 2.2 only, but as I saw how many problems were there with 1.72 OTA update, I am glad that I didn`t get that update
@dhiral.v & droidhd
Many thanks for the information Hope HTC would roll out soon the update!

While you are waiting for a reply here (unfortunately I don't know the answer) you could try sending an email to HTC.
They may will be able to help you
HTC rolls out the OTA update region by region, with exception to some countries. 1st, by following above suggestion, do check your region whether they have launched the OTA update. 2nd, if you do want to update, at least turn the ENG S-OFF, as latest 2.50 is not rootable or downgradable (this way you can revert to older builds).

Got it, country is Norway....
Good news for you, HTC just now begins to roll out 2.50.405.2 update to unbranded DHD in Europe, fixing the previous build wifi issues. [AndroidCentral]

I did send an email to HTC quite awhile ago, at first I thought the phone originated in hong kong. But after sending HTC the serial number of the phone they told me it originated from India. As far as i'm aware people from both India and Hong Kong have received this update already and HTC told me that I should receive the update based on where the phone originated from and yet I still have no update.

[Q] Desire Z manual (official) 2.3 update?

Hi guys,
I have a Desire Z which came with 2.1 and Vodafone firmware.
I have updated the ROM today to unbranded 2.2.1 (1.72).
I am under the impression 2.3 has already been rolled out to Desire Zs, but my phone will not detect any updates.
Is there a manual way to update, or a place to download an official 2.3 RUU?
(I can't tell if any of the RUUs in the section are 2.3?)
Or am I going to have to root and install a mod?
Thanks,
All the RUU's can be found at shipped-roms.com
You'd probably want to try this one RUU_Vision_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.42.405.2_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_199043_signed.exe

Thanks, looks like it'll do the job.
