Any rubberized battery cover? - Vibrant Accessories

I don't really like having a case since it makes a phone bulky, so are there any replacement battery covers that are rubberized? I hate the stock one that comes with the phone because it feels like I'm going to drop my phone every time.

If your bored I'm sure you could get some rubber on that purple back cover that came with and all you are going to loose is a purple b back cover. Hope this help.

I recommend you do some sanding to rough up the surface before you do the dip or spray. Otherwise, it's just going to peel right off. I've not used it on the Vibrant's battery cover yet, but I've used both dip and spray on before. Also, there's another thread somewhere around here with people who've already done this. I believe they have posted images too. You might want to search.

Softtouch backcover replacements?

I find the phone to be quite slippy without any coverings. I don't really want to add a skin or jell case, they will make the phone too thick. I tried fully body screen protectors on my G1 but found they did not last on the body, the edges peeled after a few months on any curved surfaces.
I wondering if anyone made a softtouch back casing, that could replace the one (two) that came with the phone, just something with some grip so the phone does not slip out of your hands so easily...
Other options which could make it even better... it had a think layer of jell for a bit of impact protection... if the side edges extended to cover the metal band on the front, so that it could provide a little screen impact protection too. I maybe asking for a lot, sort of an all in one but it seems like a feasible product.
Everyone is waiting for new backcovers. Samsung will likely make them available, and surely the aftermarket, too. But none are out there, yet.

I think it would be cool if they made some metal ones
this is number 1 on my list (rubberized backing)......phone is extremely slippery. number 2 would be anti-glare screen protector, and for 3 i would get a holster from Seidio
If you don't mind sacrificing one of the covers that came with the phone, you could spray it with Plasti-Dip...a readily available rubberized paint. Soft Feel paint from Alsa would probably be much better, but that stuff is only available commercially. If I try the Plasti-Dip, i'll post how it turns out.

that might be worthwhile since I don't like the purple backcover anyway. Now if i can remember where i put it....
I don't know if you guys noticed but any crunching sound is coming from the battery cover and not the chrome trim. I noticed that on a demo model
I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE an aluminum cover, with plastic cutouts overe the antennas for celluar/WIFI/BT/GPS.
I'd settle for Matte too.

i was thinking same thing - if you do it first, abrade (sand) the surface fairly rough so it gets a good bite to the surface - just a suggestion
Or just get some 3m di-noc vinyl carbon fiber film. Did it to my EVO back before taking it back. Looks great and has a texture to it. Got the idea from the EVO section here:

That looks pretty nice! The bump is probably hard to do though =/ and wish they had different colors

and now i finally understand why Sammy included the 2nd ugly cover w/ Vibrant

i want pink! lol
and for the plasti-dip.. please do post pics when u r done!
this plasti-dip stuff is very nice and looks like from factory. i put 3 coats already. cant comment on durability. ps. i light sanded the cover before just in case.
if this stuff hold well, i am planning on doing the same to my other cover.
Picture taken with Nexus
before doing the second one, you might try checking your signal strength (iirc #*#*4636*#*# ) to see if you're experiencing signal loss with the plasti-dip'd cover
if you don't see any signal loss, an idea for you on the 2nd one - take whatever amount of pasti-dip you'll think it will take, and mix in some media to give it some body or thickness as well as texture - maybe some short 1/4 - 1/2" fiberglass strands, ground up walnut media, ground glass or even sand) - just mix in and stir before painting it on
if you do go that route, might try a little bit first and paint onto something else (something plastic or metal that won't absorb any of the material like wood would) just to see what texture it gives you on the surface as well as what kind of build up it gives

I doubt rubber paint will effect signal. The grip and feel just like other rubberized things. Looks like from factory and was super easy to do. 3 coats with 20 minut intervals and 1 hour to dry, instructions say let dry for 4 hours. Sand with 600-800 sand paper. why 3 coats, well just in case....
ps any one know how to remove the chrome trim ? i wanna paint that too. when all this glossy plastics get oily, i hate the feeling it creates.
Kolyan,
looks great. thanks for trying this and posting pics.
What did you use to apply it? Did you paint or spray it on?

Just got my new Otterbox Impact Case...

With all the talk about the Otterbox Defender ($50), haven't heard much press on the Otterbox Impact ($19.95 / $15 after discounts).
Anyway, my Otterbox Defender was a disaster so I got this instead and I gotta say, it is REALLY nice. The rubber is solid yet soft, fits ubersnug and the screen protector is THICK and high quality. For about $15 I am VERY pleased.
** Just put on the screen protector - no lint, bubbles easy to squeeze out - love it! This MUCH nicer than the Defender.
I am just amazed by this case. Just a simple silicone case but the silicone quality is so high and smooth feeling without being overly soft. The screen protector is thick and with zero finger drag. I honestly don't know why anyone would need more protection than this. The Defender is pure overkill.

Ordered a couple of the Impact Series case's from otterbox site, hoping thy don't take as long as some of their cases have for people. Was leaning towards the trident case but after looking around decided to go with this. As far as cases go, a good silicon is all I really need so I'm excited to see how these then out. Glad to hear you like it, as with any case I've heard mixed results but I'm eager to see it in person.

I bought and love the Commuter case. Has silicone core with plastic around it. Not big or heavy. Plus it doesn't catch pocket lint.

Mine took about 5 days to arrive but I live on the east coast.
Even though the case is just silicone, it is pure quality. The screen protector is awesome too.

Looked at the commuter, I guess if I'm not feeling the Impact I could get that, all the stores around here carry that one and that one alone.
I keep reading about lint and or various fibers, which I don't necessarily foresee as being an issue (lint free), but do the grooves / textured backing catch stuff a lot? Like I said I'm not too worried, only curious.
And as far as the screen protector goes, I just use the ones Sprint sells. Have some extras so will see how different thr otterbox one is. Zero issues with this Sprint branded generic one, touch input / sensitivity or otherwise. Might just leave it.

Lint isn't a big problem because although this case is silicone it is a higher grade silicone and a bit harder than typical cheaper cases. The screen protector is nice because it is extra thick plastic so it is easier to get rid of bubbles.
To prevent lint and scratches just grab a microfiber glasses case from your local mall and slip your EVO into that before placing it in your pocket

Hmm, just got mine. Yesterday actually, but was sleeping. Initial impressions are mixed ... case is extremely loose on the sides. Guess I thought it would have been a snuggled fit with the "harder silicon" but it really is quite loose. To the point of it being a little bothersome. Not sure how much of an issue it'll be over the course of a day but a slight brush moves it. I dunno. Feels comfortable in the hand(s) though. Will have to give it a few days.

Weird. Mine literally could not be any more snug. There is no wiggle room at all.
If you mean that you can flip the edge a bit with your finger, well its silicone I personally don't find that bothersome at all.

Hah yes, right it is silicone and I know there is a lot of surface "area" between the edges but it seems flimsier than I would have imagined. As I said I thought, as read, that it had harder silicon. And I've had silicon cases for various devices and with most, once on, fit rather snug.
And with the backing ... noticed it seems to collect various "particle" stuff but can easily be wiped away. The one most often voiced concerning doesn't seem to be an issue. Doesn't seem to pull on my pocket lining. I like it but the flimsy edging is really bothering me. It even seems to stick out in the middle on the left / right sides. To the point if you push it you can see it press in to the side of the phone. I dunno ... I have 2 so it doesn't appear to be a defect ....

Dunno dude. Mine doesn't stick out at the sides at all. It is a VERY snug fit and the silicone on the sides is quite thick and not even remotely flimsy.
Don't know what to say. :-( The fit on mine simply could not be any tighter.

I got the impact case and used it for two weeks. The sides become flimsy with time with all the times you pull it out of your pocket. It's a nice case. But the sides becoming flimsy started to bug me. It also added bulk to it not alot but still adds some. I loved the grip though awesome.
I went to a sprint store and tried out the commuter case. Loved it, hard casing with rubber skin. Its a bit slippery though. But the case isnt bulky and fits the phone like a glove. Only thing I dislike is the bottom plug that protects the hdmi and usb. It opens up at times. But it's not a big deal. I get compliments on the commuter case as well pricey but I think its worth it. Both cases are great though. If the impact case didnt get flimsy with time it would still be on my phone the grip is great.

With all your raving about this case I had to see what the hubbub was about. Ordered mine yesterday. Thanks for the heads up, OP.
I do like the case, but still the edging on the sides is my only beef. Was thinking; I use these regular old screen protectors that cover just the screen and the one that came with case seems to cover most of front of phone. And wondering if maybe the little extra space would result in the front being more snug. Maybe not as its not that thick. Either way I'm liking it. The grip feels very nice.

Battery cover skin

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share with everyone my latest creation. I made a skin for the back cover of my inc2. It is made from glass etch vinyl. I ordered some carbon fiber vinyl which will be here monday. It was relatively easy to do.. if you know what you are doing. Let me know what you guys think! I love it!

Looks good. I was asking in a previous thread about these. I don't know if you grew up in the 90's, but that **** was cool when you changed the cases on your pager. LOL. Anyways...keep up the good work. I am not a big fan of the protective cases, but would love to customize the battery cover. I am not sure why these cell phone accessory manufactures don't make these...you would think they could expand their profits.
I actually did grow up in the 90's. Haha. I don't really like cases either. They add too much bulk in my opinion.

so this is a replacement battery cover or just slides over that similar to a case? if it worked like a replacement battery cover it would be nice to see you post up a diy on how to do this. otherwise, if its like how a case works, whats the benefits of doing this compared to just buying a case? price? and tell me you can clean up the smeared red paint around the htc?

I believe they cover the original back plate with it just to change its look. I maybe wrong though but that's what it sounds like. So its nothing like a case and more like a cover...
I would like to see a DIY guide as well. Perhaps also share where to get the vinyl.

The picture is rather decieving. There isnt any smeared paint. I put a layer of mod podge over the paint to prevent it from peeling up. If you guys would like, i can just send you a piece big enough to cover the back cover with. It would cost a lot less than to purchase the minimum amount you can buy from the company i buy from. I will post a diy guide tomorrow when i apply the carbon fiber vinyl. Let me know what you guys think.

Ok so you're just covering the back battery cover? Whats the material like? Is it the soft touch feel like the current battery cover? More rubber/ silicone? Can you even tell theres a cover over it? I like my phone naked, no cover so the feel of the material would be the factor for me
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk
Yep. Just covering the back cover. I like the feel of the phone without a case. I wouldn't even call it a case. It's like a skin. I don't really know how to explain how it feels. It doesn't make the phone any harder to hold on to.

Stupid sprint carbon fiber case

I bought this case with my phone the day it came out because I wanted protection immediately. It was the only case available so I got it. I've taken care of my phone diligently and the only scratches it has are from the stupid sprint carbon fiber case. Is there any way to get any compensation from sprint for buying this stupid case or am I just stupid or both?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
which carbon case do you have? I have the black carbon one with the kickstand and no scratches. Also there is no way that sprint will compensate you.
I have the one that schnergun has as well and I got it the day my phone came as well. So far the only scratch I have on the phone is from a drop (before I put the case on it) other then that it's been very nice.
And as above I really doubt Sprint is going to do anything about it. It's wear and tear as they will see it.

TPU Scratches
I just got the carbon fiber/kickstand case yesterday. But my TPU case I've used for the last two months has scratched the crap out of my GS2 edges. I miss the chrome edge and rubbery back of my OG Epic. Wish they would've used that on this phone.

Of course I'm taking it off from time to time. I do it to clean the damn phone. I know the scratches are from the case because there are 5 perfectly straight lines across the side of the phone. I'm pretty sure it happens when removing the case. I am now using the phone with no case because at least if I take care of the phone it won't get scratches. Maybe the cases aren't all built the same and i got a badly made one.
I also don't think my phone should get scratches for taking a case off too much. It's a damn case. It's supposed to protect the phone not scratch it if I decide to remove it as many times as I want.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I've had this case since I bought my phone, and I remove it multiple times a day (I have the desktop charger at work), there isn't a single scratch anywhere on my phone and the case is a nice, snug fit. Maybe you just got a bad case.
That's what I'm thinking.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
At best, the store will exchange it for another of the same case, maybe they'll look at letting you switch it for a different case of equal value or have you pay the difference for a higher value case. You can always just ask the store.
As far as compensation, you probably won't find anyone that can see the scratches as anything to compensate for. (What compensation do you expect? Are you looking for a bill credit or a new phone?) It's wear and tear, and unless it affects the functionality of the phone, they're not going to do anything about it.
I just use a skin on mine, since I use the car and desk docks, but I also don't drop my phone. Ever. So I don't worry about needing some kind of case for it.

Have you tried this one? http://www.tridenteer.com/products/Aegis-Case-for-Samsung-Epic-Touch-4G-(Black).html
I'm still on my TPU, and the comment about the TPU scratching the phone is kinda scary. None on mine yet, but I'll keep an eye out. The TPU is a great case, I'd just like I need a little more protection. I drop phones a little more often than some of you guys do. Put an Aegis on the Evo 3D, and was very impressed. Not missing Otter at all,... Otter who? Still, I'd like to hear what other GS2 users of the Aegis are feeling about the case. Just can't seem to find any GS2/Aegis users right now.
Hey guys
Switched from an Evo 3D and an Evo 4g to Epic Touch and I have been using cheap hard cases on all my phones including my new Epic Touch baby and never have any problems with them. My phones always look band new and no scratches. I only pay $6 at my local swap meet
I have had the case and phone since new with wrist strap. I also have a really annoying nic on the upper left where the case grabs onto the phone....sucks as it stands out cause it makes the phone have chrome nic....it would be nice if sprint would cover/credit the case cost back as it damaged the phone. Instead of doing this, I went got invisible shield and ballistic case. I couldn't be happy.
I'm just taking it as a loss....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I initially got the case cause I really needed protection asap, (somewhat of an idiot occasionally). BAD IDEA.
The Pro(s): light weight, thin, kickstand
The Con(s): lightweight, flimsy, cheaply made, really expensive, minimal protection.
I have sense upgraded to the trident aegis and couldn't be more happy with it. I feel like it really almost wouldn't matter what I do to it, my phone will still be okay. Build quality and materials used on it are VERY pleasing. Significantly more protective, not just for drops, but dust and dirt as well. It has mesh over the microphone and speakerphone holes so dust doesn't get in and has silicon flaps to protect the audio out and micro usb port. Buttons are very easy to use as well (no fumbling with the slick samsung volume and power buttons).
Hope that helps. Link to aegis case is in a comment above mine.

If it makes anyone feel better, I smash my Epic Touch hard against a table repeatedly as a sales tactic, after asking if the customer would dare do that to their iPhone.
I do not have a case on my ET (just a screen protector). No problems or dings on the corners yet from doing so, so hopefully that gives everyone some cause to worry less. This said, I do this because if I really messed up my phone, I could just get a replacement, so I really wouldn't advise phone smashing on a regular basis...
And with some/all due respect to the OP and some others, I would take delight in laughing at you, along with every other employee. Would you demand a new laptop from Dell because it got a scratch on it from the Dell case you purchased with your computer? If you did, do you think they would ship one right out to you?
Honestly, I could see your complaint if the case somehow scratched the screen of the device, but the sides or back? How does this affect the functionality of your device? Do you not pull as many chicks by showing them your shiny, pretty phone?

Being that it's plastic, I wouldn't think so. You should be fine. Most likely

Just got mine today (just showed up in the mail 10 min ago actually), is a direct replacement to the OEM cover. Has a nice rubberized feel on the back and if you find the right auction it is actually pebble blue with the rubbery carbon-fibre back..
The fit is perfect.. I suspect the chrome plastic letters may fall out.. have heard of people having that issue but looks good without them anyhow..
the rubberized back makes the phone easier to hold on and it won't stuff like the oem back.. Don't think I am going to put a case on this phone.. the backs are cheap enough and once I get the Steinheil Curved Crystal screen cover, it will be more than protected enough..
