My phone is stuck at the white Evo splash screen. This happenned after I performed the autoroot procedure located at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
I have tried all kinds of ways to bring it back with no success. I downloaded shipped roms 3.30 and 3.70 (3.70) is what my phone originally was. The RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe will not run on my windows 7 machine I assume it's corrupted and I have downloaded it from two different sources. The RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_157088_signed.exe runs but it always tells me that my battery is below 30% even though I plug the phone in to the charger and after a few minutes the LED turns green. Then I tried downloading the 3.70 rom as a zip file, named it pc36100.zip, put it in the root of my sd card, then I went into recovery mode and I told it to start the update. It looks like it works but I get a message at the end that says "partition update fail!" and then it asks me to reboot and I'm right back at the endless white evo splash screen. I even tried to load several times using the evo-recovery where I was able to pick which image I wanted to phone to update but it fails with a symlink error of some sort.
I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated here.
Thanks

I would also try running the RUU and PC36IMG a couple more times, maybe download them from a different source. Do you have HTC sync installed on your computer? I believe it's needed to use the RUU. So if you pull your battery out, reinsert it, then plug your Evo into a wall charger, the light goes steady green after a few minutes? Strange, I'd try a different RUU. Did you download from here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060&highlight=hboot-0.97+ruu . I haven't experienced problems like this before (fortunately) but I've also read about people needing to format their SD card before it would work, using the PC36IMG. Not sure why, but possibly something corrupted on the SD card? Did the auto root give you any sort of errors or anything? Or did it just appear to work, and then this happened?
Also, you could try running the RUU from fastboot mode. Boot to the bootloader, select 'fastboot', and then try the RUU
HTC Sync is indeed needed for the RUU in .exe form.
Boot into hboot by holding down the volume down button while turning on your phone. I believe you choose hboot USB and then run the RUU exe.

The fastboot method worked! Awesome. So, in the hboot menu, it says S-OFF, which I assume means it's rooted. If that's the case, then I can push any rom I want on top of it now, correct?

Correct. You can copy any ROM (suggesting nandroid backup first) to SD card and flash it

Sweet, I'm glad it worked for you. So it says you're S off, even after running the RUU? I've never used the Autoroot method, but it must flash unrevoked forever, somewhere in the process. Well, if it says you're S off, I believe the only thing you're missing before you can flash anything is a custom recovery, which you most likely do not have, after running RUU. I believe that since you're s off, you can just flash a custom recovery from the bootloader, and then flash a rom. You could also use ROM manager to flash a recovery, you'd just need to download and install the Super User app, I believe. I think that should work for you? I've never tried to just flash a recovery from a stock ROM, right after an RUU, but if you're s off, i dont see why you can't do that. Download the PC36IMG I attatch here, make sure its named PC36IMG, put it on the main directory of your sd card, boot to the bootloader. Let it scan and ask you to update. Select volume up for yes. After that's done, you should have custom Amon Ra V2.3 recovery. From there, you 'should' be able to flash ROMs. good luck.
Edit: wouldn't let me upload the PC36IMG for some reason. Instead, click this link to download. http://db.tt/7jGH2CA

Uhh no. That PC36IMG.zip is waaay outdated. You know they are all different, right? Just because it's a PC36IMG.zip does NOT mean it's the same file as the next one.
I used that one in two situations...
1. when my friend phone was bricked
2. when did unroot
both times that file worked for me

what do i do?
Ok! So i was running fresh 3.5 on my evo 4g and everything was running great. I decided that I wanted to add a battery percent on the battery indicator. I download a zip file that would allow me to do that...I put it on the root of my sd. I tried flashing it with clockwork mod 3.0 but it didnt let me cuz it came up with an error saying to update my binary and script. So i googled on how to bypass that error and it said to use the ra recovery(the other recovery program,i think thats what its called ) so i flashed ra with rom manager. I rebooted my evo and went into recovery and flashed the zip file then a couple of minutes later it said it was complete(no errors came up during the flashing process). I rebooted my evo after the flashing was done. This is where it starts getting weird! I turned my phone back on and after the white screen a black screen came up and didnt go away. After about a minute the phone vibrated about 4 times and the indicator light started flashing green. I couldnt power down so I had to take out the battery. I turned it back on and it booted up to the fresh boot logo. It tried to reboot itself about 3 times and without success the black screen came up and vibrated with flashing green light. Took the battery out for an hour then I booted it to the boot menu, went into recovery to try to delete the zip file and all it did was give me the black screen, vibrated and flashing green lights. I checked to see if s-off was still engaged and it wasnt. S-on was showing. I think some how that zip file made that happen. I have a nandroid backup. I dont have recovery and s-on is engaged. What should I do? This is the file that I flashed( smooth-sense_evo1.0.2_batteryonly ) Sorry if Iam posting this in the wrong section. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Holy Wall-O-Text Batman!
But getting to your issue:
You enabled security again. Flash the stock RUU found in the most up-to-date unrooting guides and go back to stock. Re-root again using Unrevoked and then flash again. Mind you, you will be starting over more or less.
The reason why I'm telling you to unroot and then root again is that you want to get rid of that funky flash. Its the safest way possible.
So I need to unroot first (even though it says s-on)
Then root again with unrevoked
Then flash stock ruu
Flashing the RUU should unroot for you. It will undo any mods except for s-off from unrevoked.
Still no luck.
This is what i have done.
Ive tried rooting again using unrevoked 3 but it doesnt pick up my evo when i plug in my phone. It does come up in my device manager but its not assigned a drive letter. Yes i did enable hboot usb. Yes my drivers are installed right.
Ive tried different ruu's but they wont detect my evo. Ive tried different stock PC36IMG's and they will update with no errors but when it reboots into the the screen with green arrows and a phone it vibrates 4 times then turn off.
Can you guys be more specific on the steps that in need to do. Thanks once again.

I feel your pain, same thing happened to me after months of successful evo hackery. Was very difficult to convey to people the extent of random roadblocks preventing all the supposed fixes. I followed every suggestion, maybe 200 separate tries at a workaround, but in the end I had to trade it in for a refurb.
To flying low,
I still have faith especially with everybody helping me out. I know theres a workaround cuz i still have hboot up and running even tho i lost recovery and rom.
Can i use unrevoked when iam in hboot? Cuz thats the only option i have.(i think)

you need to flash the RUU in hboot or run the RUU in Windows...it doesnt matter whether it says s-on or not all it will do is restore the phone back to its shipped factory settings and unroot you
What you do:
Find and download the latest RUU. I Think this is it: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Sup...51.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459.exe (download should start automatically)
name it PC36IMG.zip
Place it on the root of your sd card (root of sd card = no in any folders, just put it on there).
Boot into bootloader (power off, hold volume down and turn power on to get there)
it'll ask if you wanna parse update, hit volume up for yes.
basically, this will flash the stock rom back onto your phone. Since you're s-on already, this will complete a full unroot. Then simply re-root your phone like you did the first time and you're back in the game
Ok i will try flashing the ruu from the link that you gave me.
Thanx. Will report back soon.
I tried the link but its a .exe file not a zip. So I converted it to a zip file using winrar. I renamed it PC36IMG and put it on the root of my sd. Ran it and it just got to the checking part and it stoped checking. I did it 2 times with same result.I also formated my sd card to fat32.

If you want to run the ruu in PC36IMG form, you need the right file.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/3.70 RUU Zip.zip < Rename to PC36IMG, then flash in the bootloader.
The ruu.exe is meant to be run from a computer, with the phone booted into the bootloader, and mounted to the pc in fastboot.
Yes i agree tech roxxorz. I was just doing what he told me. Ive tried RUU.exe before but it wont recognize my evo niether does my computer and iam in hboot usb mode. I will try your link and repot back.

Well you can't do it in hboot usb. You have to select fastboot, connect to the pc, and when it shows up as fastboot usb in blue on the phone, then you run the ruu.exe.
Though either method will work.
So when I click on fastboot on my evo, what do i click on next to run RUU.exe cuz I only have reboot or power down options.

Turn the phone off. While turning the phone off, hold vol+down till you see a white screen with androids skateboarding [bootloader] From there, after it scan, navigate to fastboot with the volume keys, press the power button to select, then connect to the PC via usb cable. When it says 'fastboot usb' in blue, run the ruu exe on the pc.
OK got it. Will report back soon.
Aye aye cappy.
I did what you wrote. The ruu.exe gave me an error 170-usb connection error. I booted into the bootloader by holding down the power button and volume down why the evo is turned off. It scaned the sd card, I selected fastboot and plugged in my usb cable. It said fastboot usb highlighted in red.
Hey guys,
I tried to root my my evo 4g with the instructions from the sticky and when I started the autoroot file as it said, it would get to found root then establishing something and the cmd would close out and my phone would stay in the bootloader mode. Instructions said to go to recovery if it didn't continue and I did go into recovery and all it gave me was a black screen with the red triangle and nothing was happening so I pulled out the battery to restart the phone. Now my phone boots up normally and it just freezes up after maybe 30 seconds of use everytime and just reboots and it repeats over and over again nonstop. It won't be recognized by my computers and it just says unidentified with the CDMA drivers not working and the phone does not recognize the SD card when its running and booted up. Please help if you guys know what I could do to make it stop restarting. Thanks in advance!
Try re-rooting via unrevoked. Click on unrevoked in my signature and follow the directions, but first, boot into the bootloader screen (after shutting off the device, simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until the device starts). Look at the top of the screen and see if it displays "S-OFF". If it does, great, you're rooted, bit if it displays "S-ON" then follow the rooting method of unrevoked or retry the method you used. If it does indeed display "S-OFF", I suggest you flash a custom recovery like amon_RA.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
Well I can't do that since it won't recognize the phone through USB or recognize the SD card
Update: I just flashed my evo with the stock 3.70.651.1 rom using a card reader putting the PC36IM something file on the SD card and used bootloader to flash and It's still not recognizing the SD card and it's still freezing up 1 minute after it has booted up and restarts and repeats the loop.
I sorta have a similar problem. I have a rooted evo running CM7 .
trying to use HDMI cable with a 1080p vizio LCD TV. Nothing happens. Does CM7 support the HDMI video out.

can you send me the autorootlog.txt file? that should show what happened to it. And def don't try rooting it with anything else while the phone is in an inconsistent state, that is just asking to corrupt it.
Use unrevoked 3 my guide has all you need links and so on
I like unrevoked 3 easy to root and unroot . All the other programs that work for rooting can make unrooting a pain in the butt. Do what you want you want .
You don't have a recovery installed that's why you get black screen and triangles . Use amon 2.3

Well you're saying there's a difference in how you have to unroot when it's not true. Or at least that I know of, if there is I'm curious as to how.
Autoroot will try to downgrade the hboot to the unlocked engineering leak, if successful it's finished and all you have to do to unroot is run the RUU. If it's unable to downgrade the hboot it will bring up the stock recovery and use unrevoked forever to unlock the nand; when this is used you have to flash the s-on tool (that is left on the sdcard as URFSOn.zip) and then flash the RUU to unroot.
Unrevoked 3 breaks in through the hboot and unlocks the nand through the radio, so you will also have to use the s-on tool and flash the RUU.
You're also telling him to keep trying to root when his phone is obviously in a weird state, that's bad advice unless you want him to end up bricked like a ton of people did when the latest firmware came out.

no I'm not telling him to brick his phone. He doesn't have a recovery on his phone that is what he needs . Just saying if he does end up rerooting at some point he can try unrevoked 3 just a suggestion. My advice isn't bad not new to rooting or flashing. Pretty good at trouble shooting .
Well how do I get a recovery? I thought I have one since I have the option to go there? Gives me a red triangle with a phone under it. Once i mash the volume up and down and power button at the same time and hold it in for a bit a menu pops up to update from SD card or to clear storage and some other options. But anyway I reflashed the stock rom from bootloader and it's still doing the freeze after 30 seconds of use and restarts over and over again. So how do I actually get recovery and what do I do after that to make this stupid restarting of my phone to stop.

I'll need to take a look at your autorootlog.txt file in order to find out what's up with your phone. It should be in the autoroot folder and you can post it by using the 'manage attachments' button, if it doesn't want to let you for some reason you can also email it to me.
edit: odds are you're phone is still locked but it won't hurt to try flashing the recovery, all you have to do to flash it is run the FlashZip script that came with AutoRoot and select the one that says Amon RA - hausmod. That's if it's unlocked of course, if it says s-on or that the security is still on then your phone will reject it.
There you go, there is my autorootlog
I'm not too worried about this as I took the phone to sprint and they ordered me a new phone since they didn't know what was wrong with it and I'll get it today or tomorrow but I just want to figure out what went wrong so that I know what to do if I am to root my new phone..cause this autoroot I used on this website messed up and I followed every step perfectly.
I've look around for over an hour and can't find anything quite like this. I didn't try to change anything or put on a new rom - nothing - it just stopped working.
I've been running CM7 for months just fine. I've had to re-install it a few times due to various random errors and whatnot but for the most part it has been fine.
Phone was working fine. I plugged it in and went to bed.
I woke up this morning to my phone getting to the white HTC Incredible page and then perpetually rebooting.
I can't get past that either to get into recovery or CM7.
I can get into hboot but I have no idea what to do there.
What the hell could have happened over night?
Any chance this can be fixed or is it bricked?
This is a known issue. This happened to my phone and 2 subsequent replacements before I got one that it didn't happen to.
I'd call Verizon or take it in - hopefully you're still in your warranty.

any clues how to do that?
i've been looking around like crazy and can't seem to figure it out.
Feel dumb - I just need to get this done so I can take it in and get a new phone - it is driving me insane!
In order to get s-on you will need a custom recovery installed and then use the s-on tool provided by unrevoked. So you will need to flash a custom recovery thru hboot and then flash the s-on tool thru recovery, and then ruu either thru hboot with a PB31IMG.zip, or with a ruu.exe with your pc. You can get the recovery image and ruus from here http://www.pvillecomp.com. You can get the s-on tool from the unrevoked forever site.

same way you got it off.
unrevoked.com has this info see link below. i also quoted the area you need to look but read it all please.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
Installation Instructions
To install unrevoked forever on your phone, perform the following steps.
If your phone does not already have a custom recovery, use unrevoked3 to root your phone.
The installation process cannot take place if the phone does not have a custom recovery installed.
Download the most recent ''unrevoked-forever.zip'' to a temporary location on your computer.
The update can be installed like any custom .zip file. Simply flash it from your custom recovery. Both Amon_RA and Clockworkmod Recoveries support custom .zip installs from the sdcard.
Either select the option to install a .zip from your SD card, or apply it as an update.zip as follows:
Place the update.zip file into the root of your SD card. You can do this with adb with the command: adb push unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/update.zip
Reboot your phone into recovery mode. You can do this by removing your phone's battery, holding down the VOLUME DOWN button, and inserting the battery; at the menu, press VOLUME DOWN to highlight recovery, then press POWER to select it.
Did you read the important safety information above?
Do so now before continuing.
Select apply sdcard:update.zip from the menu.
Press VOLUME DOWN until Yes is highlighted, then select it.
Review the output to determine if there were any errors.
If messages beginning in E: appear, stop! If possible, join IRC for support.
Restart the phone normally, then reboot the phone into the bootloader. This can be done by holding VOLUME DOWN while powering the system up. Observe at the top that S-OFF appears.
Optional, but recommended: show your support (and your S-OFF bootloader) by flashing a custom splash screen!
"How can this be removed or undone if I need to take my phone in for service?
Download the latest ''S-ON'' tool to a temporary location and follow the installation instructions above to run it. Once your phone is S-ON, you may lose root permanently if you install an official update."

I tried that and it didn't work
I followed the video and now my phone is even more messed up.
Won't get past bootloader, still have s-off.
now when i power on it boots straight into bootloader so it's really obvious. Wonderful. fml.
I obviously can't fix it and I need a phone. I'm going to the verizon store and see what they say

So you can get into hboot and your s-off, but you cant get clockwork recovery to flash as a PB31IMG.zip? What does it say when it auto searches for the file? You say you cant get into recovery, what exactly happens when you select recovery in hboot?
Same thing it does when it tries to regular boot.
Well - it did before i tried to apply that PB file in Hboot. Now it doesn't do anything at all period.
Verizon didn't really look at it and just said they would warranty it for me. Woo!

Well if they cant get into hboot they cant check if you are rooted so your good to go. once it gets to factory they just plug it into a machine and it reflashes everything so they dont check it.
as I said before - when I select recovery it does the same thing as when i tried to normal boot (well now the recovery option isn't even there anymore)
But what it did was go to the white HTC Incredible screen and then just start rebooting over and over....
similar problem
i flashed the new cyanogen 7.1.0 stable earlier today and did a complete wipe. 3g wouldn't work no matter what i tried. suddenly, the phone is now in a boot loop (just rebooted on it's own). I get one vibrate, the white "HTC Incredible" screen and it reboots, rinse, repeat. I do have access to hboot (0.92).
I have attempted to flash what appears to be every available option for recoveries including clockwork, RA, and stock. it says everything installs fine and i reboot. still unable to access recovery in any way, just starts the same boot loop.
attempted RUU both via PC and .zip extraction. PC method says i'm not connected via usb despite proper drivers and phone recognition by window 7 and .zip acts as if everything applies appropriately then produces the same boot loop.
I have tried everything I can find over the last 6 hours of searching various forums. Anyone have an idea on a potential fix or a way to get s-on without being able to access recovery?
I'm about to exercise my insurance plan and put this phone under my tires and slowly back up...all replies are greatly appreciated
alright here is what happened. i was in twrp2 rc0.2 and was flashing a theme .zip made from the zipthemer app. i wiped cache and dalvik and flashed like normal and then after the flash it gave me an option to reboot system. i clicked it and it should have booted into my rom. instead it showed what would have been the white htc evo splash screen (mine is different) and then went to a black screen, vibrated 5 times, and i have the green notification light flashing.
i pulled the battery. booted into the bootloader and tried to go to recovery. ended up doing the same black screen vibrate etc. so i went back to bootloader to try to reflash the recovery since i still had the pc36img.zip on my sd. it scanned for the file looked like it read it but instead skipped past it and never gave me an option to flash the recovery. i tried multiple times, a series of battery pulls and no luck.
anyone got a clue as to whats up? im thinking i have a bad block and i heard of some jtag program or something to fix it but i have no idea what it is or how to use it.
p.s. yes i did google and i didn't find anything of much use... hell of a Christmas huh?
EDIT: odd. i have been rooted since january and now after this started it says im s-on. think i could use an ruu? the sd wont mount and im pretty sure they run from your sd so is there a way of using and ruu from a computer?

im downloading a 2.2 ruu. ill get back to you as to if it works or not
ok. i try to run the ruu and it gives me a main-version ERROR so i hit close and disconnect my phone. but then a window pops up saying update. so i plug in my phone again go to fastboot but then fastboot freezes and i cant navigate up and down with the volume keys. i then hit update but it just hangs at rebooting to bootloader and wont do anything...
If you can get back to Hboot, try to find a pc36img for the ruu you need and use the Ruu for the phone you have, not just any Ruu.
Use this site: http://goo-inside.me/supersonic/ruu to find your RUU

i tried the sdcard ruu for the latest gb update. it goes through. installs everything ok. but then when it reboots it goes back to the same 5 vibrates and black screen with flashing light.
after i did the sdcard ruu the windows ruu was able to go through unlike before. so i plugged in my phone it did its thing successfully. and again to no avail its still got the 5 vibrate etc.
and other options such as a block remap? i was running decks at the time which is based off cyanogen and i heard that cyanogen had been screwing blocks lately...
edit: i have no idea how a block remap would work... i just saw it in a thread that i believe you posted in like 3 days ago or so...
The 5 vibrates means it's in maintenance mode. (Diagnostics?)
I'm not sure what that means, exactly, but I don't think you're bricked, however, you DID say you were S-on, I believe, so if you are, try to re-root (look up root method for your hboot version) and them flash a recovery (Prefer Amon Ra) if it is successful.
If that works, wipe everything you can, except SD Card, wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache twice, then flash a ROM.

ok. i went to a friends house and just let my evo chill out on my desk and when i got back it booted right up since i got 1 successful ruu in. now that being said it only stays up for about 3 minutes and then shuts off and goes into the vibrate and blink stage so im gonna try a logcat and see if i can get anything useful out of it. there is some hope here boys
ok. i have tried ruu 2 more times. i tried to root a few times. all to no avail. nothing works. i still turns on for only 3 minutes at a time and then goes blank and vibrates.
my device is less than year old but i didn't get a warranty so does anyone know what the deal is with getting a replacement? my bootloader says s-on and its on a stock rom due to the 934759345734 ruu's i did so they won't know i was rooted. so is there like a 1 year manufacturer warranty for this without having to break out $100?
Best bet is to just call Sprint and find out. They may just offer you a trade in.
