[Q] HTC Bluetooth controller fix? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this has been addressed in another thread, but I haven't been able to find a good answer.
The Bluetooth stack for HTC Sense based android phones has some Bluetooth limitations that do not allow it to pair to Bluetooth game controllers, keyboards, and in some instances mobile (car) audio. I am not a developer so I only have a basic understanding how this works, but I've read that it is due to the SPP profile included being out of date.
A lot of Incredible owning Ford Sync and BMW drivers out there seem to be having issues syncing the Incredible, and I personally would like to be able to use a Wii controller or the Zeemote with my device. I bought a Zeemote for mobile gaming, but I gave it to my Droid X owning friend because it works great on stock Android, but refused to Sync with either my Incredible or another friend's Evo.
Does anyone (especially those people porting non Sense Android 2.2 to the Incredible) know if it would be possible to replace the HTC Bluetooth stack with a stock Android 2.2 Bluetooth stack? Ideally a user installable (with Root of course) APK.

I'd also like to know if this is possible/why it is not, even though I'm increasingly falling in love with CyanogenMod (especially as 6 seems to be nearing a stable release)

You have to download Bluetooth file transfer app from the market. Works perfectly.

Are you saying this will get our incredibles working as a wiimote?

Which one? Author?

Officially, Android does not support BT HID, which is needed for wiimote.
Cynaogenmod has added it via one of the devs who made it possible.
Their code is on github, if you want to attempt trying to port it to Sense based roms.

It's interesting that the Non HTC phones i've tried it on have worked fine if it is a problem with Android in general. I guess Motorolla added their own stack.

Try it on a samsung phone. Its not HTC only.

All we need to do is find an amazing chef like the guy over at Phandroid who makes the FrankenROM. I have 100% faith that guy could pull it off if he tried. He is freaking amazing!

Yes, can someone fix this. Full bluetooth functionality on 2.2 would be awesome!

Good to know about the Samsungs also having this issue. I've not had the opportunity to test a Samsung Android phone. Seems everyone I know has HTC or Motorolla.

Is anyone willing to cook up full bluetooth functionality in 2.2???

I would kill for this on a stock 2.2 rom w/root. I have a lot of SNES and PS1 games that suck with touchscreen controls.
I will donate money.

Anyone interested in adding bluetooth?

Please anyone smart enough to figure this out?!?

well as you may know thunderbolt hardware is almost the exact same as the evo so with a thunderbolt port it makes hdmi support on sense 2.0 roms possible and along with better camera support and also makes 4g possible since this will be the first port coming from a phone with 4g support im am looking forward to this
I am really looking forward to a thunderbolt port for exactly the reasons mentioned above. Basically a revised evo.

I am working on this, but i dont have alot of time. I Have it in my head on how the files should be,but havent goton to it yet, ill try tomorrow, but most likely(likely, not an eta) this week end i should have some progress(progress?)
its based off of froyo, so stock evo kernel will work.
First of all the thunder bolt is not that much alike to the evo, its a desire HD variant.
Different processors, diff 4g (no 4g on this port) and no HDMI is on the thunderbolt. Just because a phone has a 4.3 screen and is made by HTC doesn't mean its the same as the evo ...
The only thing this offers is CDMA sense 2.0.

no, the inspire was a hd variant, tbolt is Evo variant
Tbolt has the same proccesor as evo, just second generation
Tbolt has a lte radio, but possibly could be redone to work on evo(probably not, ask shinzul)
HDMwIn will work on tbolt port or any sense rom and will give hdmi

Yeah, and from what i understand they are really busy making ports, and some are probably trying to get the 2.3 with sense ported, as that would be huge for people.
Pretty big difference in hardware there, although it has a cdma radio so that is a plus.

I'm pretty sure the Thunderbolt has no HDMI output, just DLNA. Where it wirelessly transmits audio/video to compatible TV's and devices.
Next time do a search and post your question in the right section! No one is going to speed things up just because you and your mall buddies want a port of something!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910652
I wouldn't really worry about a thunderbolt port because there really isn't that much it had to offer. Evo already has a few Sense 2.0 roms and several excellent ports that offer somethings not available on the standard Evo rom. Plus htc is coming out this year with Sense 3.0. That is what I would like to see.

I used fresh for a long time, real nice ROM. I'm pretty sure everything was working on it at the time, don't know about now. I'm using MikG now which for me everything seems to be working, but I don't use HDMI out so i cant verify.
Yes, while Fresh ROMs have everything enabled it seems like a stock experience to me, I can't find a point in being rooted if I'm running a stock ROM. Basically I just don't understand how "Dev's" are putting up build (as of lately) and not listing the things that do not work.
+1 for Fresh (but to much of a "stock" feel for me)
I'm confused . . .
So you want a non-stock ROM that has Sense and works with all hardware but isn't too stock-like? If you want Sense but don't want a stock feel, what would you possibly like to see be different?
As to why root but maintain the user experience, the answer is simple: privileges. With root privileges available, their are several applications that can extend your device's functionality beyond what is possible without root.
For example, WiFi tether is considered an essential root-only app and allows the device to operate as a WiFi hotspot _without_ having to pay the ungodly prices carriers charge for the same service.
Another essential app is ClockworkMod/ROM Manager. ClockworkMod is a custom Recovery ROM (think of it as a Utility Partition) that most rooted Android phones use. ROM Manager is a Android app that gives you easy access to the recovery partition from within the standard Android shell. With ClockworkMod, you can create and restore _complete_ backups of your device, ROM and all installed apps, backup your WiMax keys, and even get OTA updates for certain custom ROMs.
Sans root, your device does only what your carrier says it can. With root, your device does whatever _you_ say it can.
Cheers.

Great point, I understand what you are saying about "root". It was a poor decision on my behalf to bring that into this discussion.
As far as what I'm looking for is just a simple ROM with everything working and some flashiness added in, but I want all my features to work to their full potential. On all AOSP ROMs it seems as if my camera isn't as good as the old 2.2 ROMs were. I haven't found a ROM out there that seems to take the quality pictures that the stock experience provides. I really like the 3.0 ROMs but they all have different functions that are not supported. Half of the Dev's do not even give a list of what is working and what isn't anymore. I'm just tired of trading flashiness for non working hardware, I have been in this forum for over a year and maybe it is just time I move on considering I rarely contribute.

Other than N64oid, the gameplay is great without the touch profile as this is only a necessity for the analog stick.

Have a quick question....

I have an app that I bought from the market for a buck called btmono. If your not familliar with it, what it does is convert my stero output from my phone and streams it to my mono bt headset. I use it for podcast and such since its not the greatest quality for listening to music. My delima is that it was runnning fine on the stock release froyo and I am currently running phoenix II with no problems. Before I got into custom roms I updated to gingerbread via sprint update and the streaming no longer worked. After probing the net that is how I stumbled onto this site.....thanks guys!!! Anyways, since most of the developers here are way more int the programming side than I am I was justv looking for input. I really want to update to a gingerbread build rom....but thus far they all do the same thing to my bt headset....and for me this is a deal breaker....what sux is that my wife's evo 4g is gb 2.3.3 and it works fine, and 2 days ago I tried it on my brothers stock galaxy 2 touch running gb 2.3.6 and it also worked fine. Humph. So, as a blanket statment....any input would be greatly appriceated!
Thanks in advanced.
Steve
I used to use an older version of that app on froyo. I was never able to get it to work on my epic after moving to leaked builds of gb. It used to be listed in the description in the market as froyo only. I have not tried it in several months and will give it a go again later today when I get home.

Ah You are correct...read it too fast. LOL. I see he had Randomking's Pheonix II.
Thanks guys....what puzzles me is that I actually talked to the developer and he says its even running on ics on certain phones. Its also working on my wifes htc evo and my brothers galaxy II touch and they are running gb 2.3.3 and 2.3.6 respectivly. No matter what build of gb I use its always a clean install and I am forced to repair my device. Does the modem that I am using have anything to do with the bt connection?
I am wanting to upgrade to thunderhawk. This is obviously a legal hack....it would be nice if the developers would figure out how it works and include it with their builds like the wifi hack. It actually is quite useful....all system sounds go through the mono bt headset even stereo musuc and podcasts. All without getting a headset that dosent have the adp2 protocol. Honestly I'm supprised google hasent explored this feature more and offered it. From what I hear it was included on older windows phones ans palms, so the idea has been around for awhile.
I have the same problem with mine and my brothers epic... it worked with froyo but not quite right with gingerbread... one day it will work fine, the next day it will work and then cut out, the next day not at all... think the app needs to be updated to fully support epic. It does work sometimes though
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Just spent some time trying to get this to work on thunderhawk 3.3 and still have the same results as on every other gb rom I have tried it with. It will connect, but audio just clips in quickly here and there. This is one thing I really miss from froyo as I used it quite a bit. Not worth going back just for that though. Hopefully this will get some support soon.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
has anyone contacted the dev on the app to ask if it is GB supported? and if it is ask him why it isn't working on the epic. i think this would be a good starting point.
So here is the response I got from thbe developer via email back on nov 22, right after the sprint rollout of gb. As I said before...my wife and my brother both have gb. They just happen to not be epic.
"It is more related to the firmware / drivers / kernel modules than the Android version. The program does work on 2.2, 2.3, and even 3.0+ (haven't tested yet on Ice Cream Sandwich). It works on every HTC device that I'm aware of including my EVO 4G and it works on my Asus Transformer. Unfortunately certain manufacturers seem to alter something in their firmware that prevents it from working. Almost no Motorola devices work, some Samsung devices have certain limitations, etc. Sorry, I can't guarantee that it will work at all. It's not something that Google supports so it's basically just a hack that works in certain circumstances.
Let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks, Brian Sent from my ASUS Eee Pad."
So let's see if we can get these guys on here....to at least look into it. As I said, it is a very useful feature.
Jeffro, I have the same issues. It connects but the audio drops and it doesn't stream like it is supposed to.

HI folks,
I just want to know your experiences with this phone. I am planning to buy this one from Amazon.com especially for its qwerty keypad.
Please share your experiences the good, bad and ugly of this phone. Is the hardware good? radio quality? after about, 1-1.5 years is the phone durable? Particular issues, quirks.

it's been a really fast phone after the nokia 5800, and I love the qwerty keyboard, but I wouldnt buy it again. Now I know that the supported up to date OS is a very important point of view, and we have problems with that, so I'd buy a nexus probably. or an s3/s4
x3 ... short answer, no don't by it.
It's sad but the bluetooth and skype issues have killed this phone.

I just got this phone not too long ago, and I have to say, it's pretty good.
Sure, if you are a power user, I would get soemthing more powerful, with maybe a tegra 3.
This thing is dual-core, so it runs pretty flawlessly, but I have issues with a supported kernel and overclocking it, as the battery already suns at about 105 degrees F ALL THE TIME.
It's got decent specs, and an excellent screen, but honestly, if you want something with that extra "Oomph" I would get a Note II or Galaxy SIII

I would never overclock it. I would want something fast, with a keyboard, that has reliable bluetooth. It doesn't have to be top of the line, in fact I would use this to hold me over till I can get a Galaxy S4 and then get the bluetooth keyboard for that.

Thanks for the response. I am aware if I get this I will be stuck with stock Ice Cream Sandwich, but I can live with that. Again its just to hold me over till I can get (i.e. afford  ) the S4, and then I would get the Minisuit bluetooth keyboard. But if I get this, no I would never put a custom ROM on it nor overclock it nor anything crazy. I would simply root it and unlock it then leave it alone.
Well you may find lite ROM to you liking. It is based on stock so Bluetooth and Skype work. It cleans up the bloat and adds a few nice features such a voodoo sound. The only issue so far with this phone is poor GPS lock time and it will not be updated any more past 4.0.4

Doh so close. How bad are we talking? A few minutes, who cares, but 15 to 30 minutes, that's bad.
Also, lite ROM based off of ICS or Jelly Bean? Thanks in advance.
Depends. Once the lock happens it is rather constant. I find it is hard to get a lock while moving. Not moving it is about 5 minutes.
In short, it would fail as a dedicated GPS but would work in a pinch.
Lite ROM is based on 4.0.4. I get the names mixed up though so not sure if that is jb or ics.
