[Q] How do I uninstall uninstallable apps? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For instance, I install a ROM that includes an app which I TOTALLY don't want, but will not let me uninstall through app manager, or even an app on the rooted stock version if I didn't want to use a custom ROM.... is there some sort of combination of Superuser Permissions and another app? I thought I remember reading something about a file explorer w/SU that lets you do that, but I can't find the post. =[

Use Titanium Backup, can uninstall pretty much anything

If you rooted system app remover from the market.

Faaaaaaantastic! TiB worked like a charm =] Cheers mate!

Also, the explorer you were referring to is called root explorer. That works great. I used it to go into /system/apps and rename all the Sprint crap to .bak at the end of the file type, and they no longer run or show in app drawer. But they're not deleted, in case you ever need them back.

Download Titanium Backup, go to setting and enable "Chuck Norris" mode, and you are good to go. Definitely check out the safe to delete thread and don't uninstall anything that has to do with Google Talk. It will screw up your market downloads.

Removing Sprint App from Rooted 2.2?

Newbie Question: Can I just remove the Sprint apk file I don't want from \System\App folder using Root Explorer or would this cause the phone to error out? If this is not the correct way let me know right way to remove unwanted sprint apps. Thanks.
Try using titanium backup from the market, worked for me.

if you're curious about which you can remove, check out this thread

So from what everyone is saying I'm assuming just removing the apk files should do the trick.

Titanium Backup and ROM Manager apks

The worst part about flashing new ROMs is that I have to sign into my Google account to get Titanium Backup installed.
I found a direct download link for it but it's a zip file and flashing it in Clockwork Recovery did nothing. Does anyone have a way that I can get either an apk or a flashable zip of Titanium Backup? I'd also like ROM Manager, but that's not really important if I have TB.

there are places you can get the apk, just google it.
I saw some, but I don't see versions, and I don't know if they might hurt my phone. Are they safe?

Within TB you can create an update.zip that you can flash TB after doing a Rom install. I think you may have to get the paid version though.

Guess I am spoiled by some devs around the place as they put it in with ROM. One of the things I look for when I check out another ROM. If it has these..I look deeper into it...if not..I hesitate and most of the time move on. There has to be something else that really grabs my attention for me to try a ROM missing what I call basic everyday tools. To me... these and some other apps are basic yet essential tools for all ROMs...just my opinion.
Honestly, I don't see why you wouldn't want to sign in to your Google account. That's part of Android's basic functionality, and if you want to download any apps from the market you will have to sign in anyways.
If you really want a copy of the apk, first get the app from the market. Then use Root Explorer to go in and make your own copy of the apk and paste it to your SD card. Then you won't have to sign in to install it anymore as long as the ROM you are flashing includes some sort of file manager.

It's not that I don't want to sign into my account, but why type in all my details when they're stored in TB already? If I can just install that, I just do a batch restore and I'm done. I did find the apk. It's stored as com.keramidas.titaniumbackup-1.apk in /data/app, just in case anyone else ever wants to find it.

Is there any other option beside Titanium Backup
Yes there is a better option. It's called my backup root. It is in the play store. There is also a pro version, you don't need it unless you want it

I more thing I need to know although it's Out Of Topic but still related: can I delete/it is safe to delete directories at internal SD specially directory that start with "." (dot) ?
"App Backup and Restore" also free in the market if all u want r ur apks.
Edit: I meant play store.

Your welcome. All the apk files are stored in a folder called reware so after you make a backup you technically don't need the app to install your back up. If you paid for the app you can share it with others like flight track or whatever.
To answer your questions about the directory, as long as it is on the root of your sd card, you should be good to delete it, stay away from the system folder and data folders. If you have any questions ask away

App extractor

I am looking for an app that will let me pull a system apk from a backup of my system using cwm. I have tried nandroid manager, app extractor, and a couple others that I don't remember the name of and none of them are working for me. Nandroid manager says that it successfully restored the app I wanted, but it didn't really do it. I have also tried titanium back up, and it's not restoring the app either. It's a system app if that makes any difference.

TB might do the trick for you. I just checked, and under the MENU
Then under special backup/restore
I know it works with twrp, Might work with CWM too. Never actually pulled one from there, but there is an option to grab the apk
Good Luck
edit: odd, searched with root explorer and was not able to find the apk i yanked from TB nandroid

I've tried TB, both restoring the app and extracting the app from a backup. Neither worked. TB spent 30 minutes restoring this app before I canceled it.

Ok so flashed back to my stock rooted backup and used the app Appwererabbit and it allowed me to make a copy of the apk that I wanted. The I flashed back to my current rom and tried installing it, but the install failed. I'm guessing because it was a system app. So I placed it in the system app folder and still nothing. Is there a way to install this without using a pc and pushing it with ADB?

Anyway to install a system apk from another rom without using a pc and ADB? I have tried to restore a backup off the app with TB, but that was a no go.

Download root browser, take a backup of the app, open root browser, locate the backup file move that backup file to system/app folder and change it's permissions to rw-r--r--. and then reboot. enjoy

I had the permissions set to rwxr--r--. After changing permissions to rw-r--r-- and rebooting, it's still not showing up I'm my app drawer or in installed apps under settings. I do have the app placed in the system/app folder along with all other system apps but still a no go. Thanks for the input though. Any other ideas?

Uninstall system app issue

If i use es file explorer and use the app mgr then press system app and select which app i want to uninstall and it says uninstall failed. Root explorer is on and system is mounted rw. If i use tibu to uninstall a system app it will say apk cant be located. Im on moar v8 with stock kernel but this same thing was also occurring on ktoonsez kernel as well. Supersu is set to allow and show notifications. How do fix this?

I usually use root explorer and go to root, system, app, and then delete whichever apk I choose. Have you tried that method?

That does work. It only started happening since 4.3 i think the emulated directories is what is causing the problem
