ok, So i have been running CM6 and was in downtown Cleveland and decided to NAND restore to a Sense rom to see if 4G was up. I turned on 4G and it said 4G network detected. The phone did a cycle of scanning....obtaining IP address....connecting....scanning....over and over. I was afraid that I might have a broken Wixmax...ran emulator, the MAC ID is correct, have the latest Wimax radio installed, and the wimax_mtd command through terminal emulator checked fine with no errors.
Question is....since Cleveland is not a official 4G city is it possible they are just testing the towers / signal and thats why the phone won't connect to 4G, of do you think there is a problem with my 4G?
I know that 4G is up and running the the North Olmsted. The strongest signal seems to be around Great Northern Mall. If you can get out there, you can test to see if there's a problem with your 4G radio
Yeah I got it to work. Its still intermittent around as far as actually connecting.

wow so noone has any insight ?
I have the exact same problem.
If I am using the 4G it stays connected, otherwise:
connected to sprint
scanning...
Obtaining IP Address
connected to sprint
More and likely its a weak signal. It was like that for my area but waited couple months later it gave me a stronger signal now. Unless your friend is picking up signal at your house and you are not. Then I have no clue. Update your prl?

i have a wimax tower right across the street (i see it outside my window)
full bars, perfect coverage
I'm having 4g trouble as well. I have full reception and am in a confirmed working 4g location. The phone keeps scanning for 4g but can't find anything.

that's a different problem if you can't connect at all.
I think I am bouncing around to multiple wimax towers.
Any idea how to fix this?
I had the same problem on PRI 1.3x when upgraded to PRI 1.4x the problem was fixed. I made the mistake of upgrading to 1.77 and now my phone connects/reconnects all the time on 4g.
Im located in best coverage area and I cant find a signal. I live in SI NY, 4G just went live the other day. Even though the map says I have signal could the signal not be lit yet? I have a rooted stock rom 2.2 evo, I know someone with an unrooted evo but they dont have 4G by their house yet, I will have them test it as soon as I can.
ok i got in contact with someone with an unrooted evo and they checked a different part of SI which the map says has coverage and he cant get a signal.
Not once (except for ookees) did anybody say if they were rooted or not, what ROM they are using, or any other information except for "I have 4G coverage, I cannot connect". Need more information.
Edit:
Also, the OP has "current phone : samsung vibrant rooted running vibrant 5" in his signature...which is on Tmobile and doesnt have 4G.

Any idea where we can get PRI 1.4x?
This is really frustrating. If I am in other areas, my 4G works fine.
If I keep the link "hot" by constantly using data, it wont drop the 4G connection.
Otherwise-
Connects, works for 30 seconds, disconnects, scans, reconnects with new IP, disconnects, over and over and over.
My wimax radio is NOT broken, 4G does work in most areas, but at home where I get multiple 4G towers surrounding me (downtown) I think it is tower jumping.
anyone? can anyone help with this?
download the WIMAX RSA key checker from the market and see if your RSA keys are missing, if they are i feel bad for you. (I lost mine aswell) Im still dealing with sprint to get my phone either replaced or covered by insurance (which means i have to fully unroot it and claim it as a software issure with an OverTheAir (OTA) update. They usually fall for this and replace it no charge. But if they find out or expect root, they make you pay a 100$ deductible to get a refurbished phone (rooted or not) but there is a slight chance you'll get an Evo 3D in return ^_^ I hear they're not handing out Evo 4Gs anymore
Both me and my wife have EVO 4G, since sprint towers are going live in NY I started using it.
What we noticed, on my wifes phone it never finds any 4g signals while I have it all over the city. We actually have sprint tower on top of our building that gives me maximum strength signal while at home.
When we got phones I recall she was actually able to find 4g singnal here and there but it was way to sporadic to keep it on.
Both phones are rooted and running newest Wimax.
I found on forums possible issue with with bad MAC but I confirmed that is not the case.
Is there anything I can test/try at all or should I seek replacement from sprint?
I guess RUU and sprint store here I go
Hi guys,
I can't seem to get a stable 4G connection on my Epic 4G for some reason. When I toggle the "4G" to "ON", it would connect for a split second and immediately Disconnects and tries to connect again and again. My friend tested his phone (Nexus S 4G) and he connects just fine with data speed of 3,000kbps on Speedtest compared to my miserable 600-700kbps. I've also tried testing this in several different areas including major cities that supposedly cover "4G" and it does the same
I'm currently running SRF 1.2 ROM on Genocide 2.0 Kernel but I believe this issue was present even before rooting my phone. I also tried using different modems (EB13, EC05, EE03, EF02, EG22, EH17) but it made almost no difference to my 4G connection.
Does anyone have any suggestion on this??? I would really like to experience my 4G connection on my supposed 4G phone.
I have the same set up as you, and the same spotty 4g. Sometimes it's very hard to keep a stable 4g connection even in areas where I know 4g has been strong. It disconnects, or it pretends that it is connected but data really isn't going through.
Though, 4g is kinda new to my area and there are rumors that it's still in testing phases. Also, I don't have any input from other 4g users here. So in the end I'm not sure if its just my epic, or if there are wider issues.

Strong 4g signal
I am also running SFR 1.2 and I get very strong/stable 4g speeds. I live in Chicago (Sprint 4g has been here for a while), and I get 3-4Mbps in my apartment on 4g. This is enough to do things like play Xbox Live or Skype using my 4g. I have noticed that while traveling on trains in the area the connection tends to go on and off, but I would say that overall, I usually have a great connection.
This may just be in your area, where are you located?

I have the same issues, even though the Sprint coverage map shows I should be able to get 4G inside my house.
After researching, what I have found is you must find the nearest Sprint tower that has 4G, hold your left hand directly on the control board of the tower, and while placing your right big toe directly on the battery of your phone (must be the right big toe, the left big toe will not carry current correctly), you must complete the following key sequence on the dialer (###WTF***4G###***). Only then will you receive a 4G signal. Now be aware this will only enable the signal to last for 15 seconds. If you need more time that that, you must repeat the process. Oh...and By the way...This will only get you 1 bar of 4G service. I will be working on a detailed guide for 2 bars. There is no known method to actually get 3 bars of 4G service!!
Sorry, but this is a good of an explanation as anyone from Sprint has given me.
You may now return to your normally weak 3G Sprint signal.

So my area is scheduled to get 4g the 17th but I had a few questions about 4g...
First of all how do you tell if you have a bad lte radio? Does it just not connect to 4g or does it do something else? I've been testing to see if I got it yet everyday and it hasn't popped up even once yet so I'm not sure if I might have a bad 4g radio or not
Second of all how long does it take for 4g to pop up after switching to cdma/LTE? does it usually connect to 3g first or just go to 4g?
And thirdly if I have a poor 3g signal (says about 80-90 dbm but my 3g speeds are usually around 200-400 kbps), does it tend to carry over to 4g? (just as in slower speeds than if you have a decent 4g signal)
Hello.
To answer your question about the lte radio... If you aren't sure if your area has 4g and are trying to test by turning it on or off I think your best bet would probably be to ask someone else (who has a 4g phone) if they are obtaining the network. If possible, you could go somewhere you know for certain has 4g (if theres anywhere remotely close) and try it there. I doubt you have a bad radio if your 3g signal is working, have you flashed any roms or are you running stock? If you think the radio is bad you could always try and flash the most recent ones.
The time it takes to switch from cdma to cdma/LTE is almost instant. When you do so your blue 3g bars disappear and it turns grey. After no more than 5 or 10 seconds it will connect to 4g (if its available) and display the blue bars. If you're in an area with both 3g and 4g the phone will automatically connect to the 4g first if it can.
In my personal experience I've noticed that if you're in an area with bad 3g reception the 4g will be about the same give or take a little. I also believe that even if you have poor 3g and 4g the LTE will still have a higher data transfer rate.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for...I know a couple places not too far that have 4g for certain, and as for comparing to other 4g phones to see if they have 4g I can probably just check the local Verizon store
I'm definitely hoping for at least 5 mbps download for LTE speed, which I'm sure is fairly easy to get, I can't stand average 3g speeds of 100-500 kbps and maybe 1 mbps if I'm lucky
I'm supposed to be getting 4g officially here tomorrow so hopefully it all works
Thanks again
Dude, why does Sprint suck now? I used to get 4G in my apartment, and all over the bay in many spots. Now I NEVER get a 4G signal. It's been months since I got 4G. I've had my phone for 1.5 years. Did they change something? I wanna switch carriers it's so bad. What's going on?
I checked and made sure my phone is set to be on LTE / CDMA.
I downloaded a app in play store that gives you more info on signal strength and connection type. I will get 4g at times but notice I get it more now with the dandriod 3.9.5 ROM.
Try the app and see what info it gives you. It will say LTE no connection if your not coming close to picking it up.
