[Q] HBOOT Menu: SIMLOCK - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was reviewing HBOOT menu on my HTC Desire. I clicked SIMLOCK option and received the following message:
FAT32 init OK
Open MCCMMC file fail
Open CID file fail
Process done, reboot device?
What is the process done above? Did this process modify anything on my phone? What exactly SIMLOCK does?
Thanks.

You wasn't reviewing then, you was messing around and potentially buggering your phone up!
Simlock is where your phone will only accept one networks Sim card. It didn't find the files needed so doesn't seem to have done anything though.
Here's a tip - don't mess if you don't know what you are doing.

Otherwise you have a one way ticket to a (potentially) bricked phone

Ok guys, I shall stay away from this part of the phone
What I understand is that Simlock option tries to modifyp the phone's Simlock status with some files in MMC and CID file (custom created in most of the cases to unlock the phone etc.). Since there is no such file found in MMC, this process did not modify/delete anything in my phone. Is this the case?

Thats what it appears to have done yes.

Thanks for the advise.

With the proper files in place this should allow us to lock our phones to our specific SIM?

Well no to a specific carrier which is more of an option for operators to lock a device than for you I believe
And to those who blamed op for playing around seriously it is not much you can do on the phone or bootloader for that matter as long as it is stock it is not like HTC provides you with the option to manage anything apart from flashing stock roms

ok... i did the same foolishness...and got the same reply on my phone... bt i guess it did manage to lock it... not totally though... coz when i switch sim cards... and turn on the data connection on my phone ... my phone hangs up... bt when i dont have the data connection switched on.. it wroks well... and when i put that sim which i waS Using while pressed the sim lock button... it works well and fine .. even with the data connection on.... you can read the threads i've posted reguarding this here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=57879533
if this doesnt work... jus goto my profile and search for the THREADS i've started...

thank i have dne the same think

any solution to this problem??

I did same thing today and thought my phone would be a brick, lucky me.

Luckily it always fails. I managed to accidentally hit it once too. It is too easy to start it imho. Slight drop in concentration and there you go, you bricked your phone.

So is my phone bricked???
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App

I doubt this causes your phone to brick. I tried it also with my Wildfire. It could not find the required files and just rebooted. My guess is it doesn't matter if you select it by accident.

agree with you did the same no probs

I'm guessing it'll allow all SIM's including AT&T etc but Not one Single person on the XDA forums seems to know how to use AT&T on our HTC's.
They support the 1900Mhz GSM band but it's "LOCKED" so you can't get voice or data period.
Is there a legitimate way to Carrier unlock HTC Phones?
I have my specific IMEI unlock code to get it to work supposedly but no one has any idea how.............
Thanks

[Q] is it possible to remotely enable wi-fi or mobile data for htc one x?

i need to have a connection to authenticate my gmail account bcause my friend maxed out pattern attempts. i know the pattern, i know the gmail account, usb debug is unfortunately off as well as wi-fi and mobile data connection. i managed to turn on the bluetooth (if that would help) while randomly tapping home capacitive button and while doing it my home screen abruptly shows up then back to authenticate screen.
i also don't want to do factory reset right now, i have important multimedia files and messages and doing factory reset will erase them.
i know the IMEI, serial number of my htc one x unit, still have the box if someone from htc can do it remotely. hopefully.
also, if there would be any other way that the gallery and/or messages can be recovered please help me.
thanks a lot! don't care if it will be almost a week that it's been locked, but it's starting to be an inconvenience but still tolerable for me...
please help me,
I'm sure if you try wrong patterns too many times, a option for forgot pattern pops up. You enter your Gmail details and you're good to go.
Didn't that work out?
Ps - I'm not really sure if such is the case when you have no connectivity.
Are you rooted?
If yes, go to recovery and backup. Either flash same rom with cache wipe or flash new rom and restore data.
You'll be good.
Also in recovery you could mount usb and copy media off.

Ok, so your not rooted therefore you will not have a custom recovery.
I wonder if you could go into bootloader, then have fastboot usb access. Unlock your bootloader. Flash a custom recovery. Copy off your stuff through recovery usb mount. Then flash a new Rom. What you will lose is everything on the phone but you should save your photos and stuff.

I would stick with athulele's route if i were you - triple check it doesnt work before trying a sledge hammer approach.
If not then I know that unlocking the bootloader through htcdev will wipe your phone data and apps etc but sdcard remains untouched. I cant say what a factory reset in bootloader does as i never tried.
EDIT: my comment relates to unlocking a relocked bootloader on an s-off device. So its possible the first time unlock or even a relock on an s-on device might wipe the sdcard contents.
Good luck - maybe other will have tips. if you go ahead and try unlocking bootloader there are loads of threads with instructions here. Just stop after you flashed the custom recovery and use it to mount usb and copy off your pics. Then try a reset from within bootloader or flash a new rom.
Just to chip in.....there are reports of wiped sdcards when unlocking the bootloader.
Just saying.......
Edit : it will delete ALL data including sdcard.

Wierd, I only did this recently to check something else and although my Rom was reset all my sdcard pics etc remained, I just restored a nandroid from the sd (which was also still there) and was back in business. Wonder why this would vary ? Perhaps I dreamt it or im going mad. I may have to try it again tomorrow.

You went from unlocked to relocked and back to unlocked.....the first time it should wipe all ! And maybe there is a small difference because you are S-OFF ?

Good point edited post to that effect, I cant remember what happened on the first locked to unlocked on my first Hox (which was s-on) and my current s-off was already relocked when i bought it.
pjgt : If all other avenues fail and you were going to unlock bootloader and root\custom ROM anyway then there is a small chance but it doesnt sound likely. Id recommend buying and installing Cerberus or similar once your back up and running - it allows an sms to unlock device or change password. This 'may' have bypassed your problem.

Fact is I unlocked a relocked bootloader on an S-OFF one x and my sdcard was not erased.
You will be unlocking a locked bootloader on an S-ON device so I cannot guarantee the outcome.

No Signal!

Hi everyone, i recently got this HTC ONE X (Second hand) 13 months old
and i found that there was no signal in the phone!
No service, emergency calls only :crying:
I tried with three different SIM cards, the SIM Contacts do show up and the phone shows
"Preparing SIM card' but the network doesn't appear!
The phone was properly working with the SIM of the guy i bought it from, he was even using Mobile DATA!!!
It even worked for me sometimes, it shows signal, i try to make calls and it dissappears!

Can anyone help me with these issues?
Should i take it to HTC Care for any Hardware issues or should try with few more SIM Cards?

You holding it right?
Seriously, could just be an APN issue.
Go into Settings, Mobile data (click on the NAME not the on/off switch), and Access Point Names...
If you're network isn't in there you're going to have to create an APN and find out your carrier settings.

Hi all. Hijacking this thread. Have a similar issue.
ATT HTC One X (Evita). Works fine with the exception of no signal on the phone. It reads the SIM with no issues - can retrieve SMS and view contacts. Phone shows no signal whatsoever - can't make any calls - can't run any USSD codes.
So far I got the bootloader unlocked and S-OFF - tried to load different ROMs I found but nothing worked. Managed to soft-brick the phone with it stuck on the screen before loading recovery, but managed to fix that with a RUU EXE (couldn't find a ZIP). The RUU EXE I found was for the latest version so now it's updated. Icon still remains the same - signal bar with an X on it.
Any help on this would be appreciated. Any suggestions at all. Thanks in advance.

I've been checking and I don't see any other forum elsewhere or thread here that speaks specifically to the One X (Evita). If you know if it then please provide a link. Otherwise I'm still waiting on a reply here.

Yeah. This thread is kinda dead now but I promised to post back. No solution for this issue on the one I have. Currently gave it away to a child to use as a small tablet. The signal just doesn't work. Nothing tried works. If I was the original owner I guess I'd have taken it back. Maybe a factory fault? Anyways. Thanks for all the help!

[Q] Checking the BL state and reflashing

Hello folks!
Please excuse my very basic questions here. I've never worked with HTCs before, but this one just came along my way.
First of all, this is about a HTC One XL. It's not an AT&T model (it's from Germany, in fact), but the only XL forum I could find here on XDA that was related to the XL was the AT&T XL forum. So I hope I'm at least posting in the right forum here?
So I got a One XL today which has what seems to me like a hardware problem - it does not recognize the sim and it's the first time I'm holding a HTC in my hands.
It's still under warranty, but before sending it in, I will have to make sure no one fiddled with it. That would have the warranty void and create costs just to get the phone back from service.
What I'd like to do - 1. Reflash the phone with stock firmware, just to make sure it has nothing to do with a weird software problem
2. Check whether the bootloader has been unlocked since I guess that would void the varranty too? If that's the case I would of course want to relock it before sending it in.
So how do you guys flash HTCs? Flashtool? Fastboot?
Also, I wasn't able to connect to HTC Sync Manager, even though the drivers seem to be installed correctly, the phone detected the connection and switched to USB debugging...but nothing...
Thank you very much for your help :victory:

Sorry but no - this is definitely the wrong forum! This is for the HTC One X which is a quad core Tegra 3 device only capable of 3g. Yours is an XL which will be a dual core Qualcomm device for LTE.
Your best bet is to go back over to the HTC One XL forum. I realise it only refers to American variants but that device has the same hardware as yours.

Thanks, I just read up a little bit and realized what you just said: It's running on a different chipset.
If a mod could move the thread, I'd be really thankful.
At the same time, I don't think that the questions I have just asked are chipset specific.

To check if the phone has ever been "tampered" with.
1) Ensure the Fast Boot mode in Settings > Power > Fast boot is OFF.
2) Switch off the phone
3) Power the phone on while holding the volume down button.
If the top it says "Locked" then it has never had its bootloader unlocked. If it says "Relocked" then it has been unlocked in the past. If it says "Unlocked"... you get the idea

No worries. But if you are "Locked" then all you need to do is go to Settings > Backup & Reset > Reset phone.
You won't be able to flash anything if it's locked anyway. Job done!
Edit: On a side note, the chassis for the SIM card holder on phone is a bit temperamental. My old SIM card which worked in every phone I tested on often booted to say "No SIM". I ordered a brand new SIM and it's worked well since.
You also have to hope the issue isn't related to the IMEI being barred and hence you are not allowed to register on any networks.

I actually tried different sims. I always have some at hand since I saved all the ones that I have collected while travelling...
It doesn't often say No SIM, it does never detect a SIM.
I'm not sure, but I'd guess I'd get a different error if the IMEI was barred.
Done a reset earlier today, it didn't change anything. But if the bootloader has to be unlocked to flash, then I can be sure this has not been done before. Peace of mind when sending in the phone to service
It seems to be a great device by the way.

[Q] No sim card inserted/detected

Good day, I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate thread
My M8 randomly stopped detecting my SIM card after I installed my dbrand skin (which is weird because it's just a skin on the phone, it's not going to hamper the performance, right?)
I have a dev ed M8 S-On, BL unlocked with TWRP and I'd like to try flashing the stock RUU or firmware for it.
I am not sure where to find those, or how to go about flashing it.
Can anybody help me sort this out? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Please delete if possible, I found my answer elsewhere.

Can't see how such a skin would have that effect. Maybe the SIM tray got jarred loose a bit during the application process?
Did you try taking the SIM tray and SIM out, then putting it back in?

With s-on, you need to relock the bootloader with the fastboot command: fastboot oem lock
From there, just run the RUU with the phone in fastboot mode while connected to PC. The RUU is fully automated and self-explanatory.
Also, you can only run the RUU for same or greater hboot/version number than what is on the device (no "downgrading").

Can't see how such a skin would have that effect. Maybe the SIM tray got jarred loose a bit during the application process?
Did you try taking the SIM tray and SIM out, then putting it back in?

Thanks for the info. I had already found my answer, but I am glad for the reassurance here. I will let you know how it goes when I'm done.

Okay so I did exactly what you said to do
Relock bootloader> run the RUU and accept everything once read> let it do it's thing
My main problem before was finding which RUU to run, and if I needed to relock my bootloader because of it's DE status
How about the SIM card? Did you get it working and/or figure out what was wrong?

Yeah, as suspected something went wrong with the firmware and flashing the stock RUU fixed it. I'm not exactly sure why it suddenly stopped recognizing my sim card, but it's fixed now so I'm happy.

Okay so the phone fell today and the simcard stopped recognizing again, but I tried another carrier's sim card and it picks up without a problem. I tried flashing the RUU again (twice actually) and no luck. I do see the network that I want when I manually search for it, but I can't select it on the sim card from the other carrier for obvious reasons.
I have no idea what's going on with it.
I'm guessing my sim card isn't fitting well.
Gonna try to get it replaced in the next few days.

That's probably your best bet, at least as a start. Many carriers will also replace your SIM for free, so its easy to at least start troubleshooting from there.

Yeah, hopefully I won't have to pay anything. Though in my country, they even charge for sim cutting >.>
Though I haven't got a clue as to why it's not reading on my M8 because it's reading fine on my much older Sony Ericsson C902

There is also a trick that sometimes helps, where you put a piece of Scotch tape on the SIM (on the side without the gold contacts) and the extra thickness may help "push" the SIM into proper position (make proper contact). But be careful you don't jam up your SIM slot with the tape, or you can be in a real jam.
I haven't seen any folks have this issue on the M8, but I saw it fairly occasionally on some past HTC devices (One X was my last HTC phone). For that phone, the "SIM tape trick" worked in more than a couple instances.

Actually what I want to do now is try to flash the radio files for the DE and hopefully that will work
But I'm worried about firmware compatibility or rather version compatibility because I know that updates can change certain things and I'm running Insert Coin right now
Though I believe that I should be fine because I am S-ON and flashing the RUU will help me if I ever come to a soft-brick
Please tell me if I'm right before I continue

You can't flash another version's radio with s-on.
EDIT: Realized that you have the DE. But still, if s-on, a radio or firmware will only flash if the file is still HTC encrypted/signed.
Also, wrong radio wouldn't give you a SIM error. You would have at least GSM voice and EDGE data, even with the wrong radio. You just would not be able to connect 3G or LTE.

I ended up trying it just before I saw this reply, and sadly it didn't work at all.
I'm getting "No Sim Card" when I try my main carrier's sim, but my other carrier's sim is picking up without a problem.
So I'm definitely getting it replaced today. The recommended DE Radio update didn't seem to change anything, and my rom still works fine.
Thanks for the advice and help. I'll let you know if a new sim card worked in this case.

So the Sim replacement worked, and I've now got my favourite carrier running again with my same old easy to remember number
I haven't got the slightest clue as to why that sim would stop working just like that...............

They just go bad sometimes, its not unheard of.

Data stuck at 2G on T-Mobile

I just bought a factory unlocked htc one m9 and plugged the sim card in.
After cache partition wipes, two hour-long customer support calls, a factory reset, and a bottle of Tylenol, nothing happened.
(Okay, I'm joking about the Tylenol.)
The big issues are that the only mobile network operator detected in settings is AT&T, and that I can not change any APN settings (though they are T-mobile anyway, so that shouldn't matter.)
The T-mobile rep and I both checked, and the phone IS compatible with the t-mobile data bands in my area, so there is no physical reason that it shouldn't work.
Any help with this would be massively appreciated!

I had a similar problem with my phone (developer edition) when I first put in the sim card. A phone restart with the sim in it solved it right off.

Now that you've restarted, try going into the network settings and manually choosing T-Mobile.
(Settings, Mobile Data, Network operators, search for networks)
It doesn't find anything other than AT&T.
I'm guessing that choosing the automatic option dues any good.
My next move would be to redo the setup process.... probably by resetting the phone. I'm off to Google the issue and see if anything comes up.
[EDIT] Before you do that, double check that your network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. Anything else will (artificially) limit you to 2G or 3G [/EDIT]
[EDIT #2] T-Mobile has the APN information for manual input. It may be worth trying to create a new APN profile to see if that makes a difference [/EDIT]
I tried both of those. Now I'm having issues even just connecting it to my computer over USB. (HTC site says there's a software update that I think might help, but the phone isnt detecting it)

Ah. Probably worth applying the latest RUU. The executable is here - best to install it with your phone connected to your computer in download mode. Alternatively, you can use the SD card method, though you'll have to search around for the Android 7 Rui zip file.

I think I'm going to have to use the SD card method - the m9 keeps disconnecting randomly over usb and if that happens during the install.... I'd really like to not brick the phone.
I've been looking around all over google and can't seem to find a .zip for the update, I found one in a thread on here (still can't link things yet, under ten posts) but the download site said file not found.
In addition, do I need to use S-Off before trying the update? In some of the forums that was mentioned but I think it was for a different version of the phone. HTC has the update files and doesn't say anything about it, but it also doesn't say anything about updating over SD card.

Head on over to the General forum and check out the thread by Flippy498 about stock ROMs. It should be a few posts in, but the zip file is linked!
For anyone else having this type of issue - even though they're all unlocked, some versions of the htc one m9 (potentially other phones by HTC as well) are produced in different regions. The Taiwanese version does not have band 12, and others potentially lack other bands.

Oh dear. I assumed that you were referring to the unlocked version sold directly from HTC, as opposed to a branded M9 (produced for a specific carrier & region) that had subsequently sim-unlocked.

Nope! I'm trying to unlock the lte bands before using S-off (just because it doesn't seem like anyone's tried it yet.) I'll post results as soon as I finish trying, but it's slow-going.
