DeathGrip protector - Vibrant Accessories

What is the best way to prevent the "'Death Grip" I live on outlining area of 3g and i can death grip my phone from 5 bars down to 0. Currently i have a Silicone Case but it makes it bulky and doesn't slide in and out of my pocket easy. I would like to find a battery cover thats different (like the carbon-fiber things) but avoid the "death grip". Any suggestions?
I saw this its clear but looks bulky

Quite holding the phone so tightly would be my first suggestion.
Check out amzer or the sgp cases.

I have the black T mobile case, but it is kind of bulky.
One question though, Have you ever really dropped a call or had the 3g drop when you have the "deathgrip"?
The reason I ask, is that is seems that our phones show no bars when we still have plenty of signal. It happens to me quite frequently that I will have no bars showing, but I make calls and surf the web just fine.

yeah I get the death grip thing too. I haven't got my case yet but the tpu cases are usually the thinest and aren't rubbery so its easy to get the phone in and out of your pocket. You can find them for about ten bucks on amazon or three dollars on ebay.

btw i've never dropped a call with this phone at all. but the grip will take my two-three bars 3g to one - zero bars on edge.

I have had two dropped calls and both of them are when my phone has been in my left hand, with my unlocked i phone i didn't have dropped phone calls in the area that i had this. So this leads be to believe this was because of this however it could have just been bad weather , high call rate in that area or just plain dark forces at work HA. I just think this is a sexy thin phone however at the same time i want to take care of it.

get a tpu case they are amazing check out tpu-cases dotcom. sorry can't post link. it is run by OneStepAhead from this fourm. use code xda for 10% off

how does TPU feel? Shame its only in smoke...

There is an app called Real signal which shows you the correct signal strength. I can sometimes have no bars showing and the app will show three, go figure. All being said this phone gets way better reception than my g1 did, but thats just me.

It would go from 2 bars to 0 i would like an app that gives better stats IE numbers rather than a visual.

Incipio Feather - Avoid It

let me start off by saying that i used an incipio feather when i owned an iphone4 for a few months. i loved it and that's why i decided to get one for the nexus even though i had read a few comments from owners saying they didnt like the "fit"
i think pictures can show my complaints the best so i'll start with those (ignore the bad screen protector install. i'll be doing it again once i find a case i like)

as you can see from pictures 1-3, the fit in the corners is TERRIBLE. it looks even worse in person than it does in the pictures. when i put it on, i had to look at the packing to make sure that the case sent to me was in fact for the galaxy nexus. i am absolutely shocked that the fitting as as poor as it is. the case for the iphone i had was perfect. granted the iphone is basically a square so it's much easier but that's no excuse for incipio to release a half assed case.
the last picture is more of a design flaw rather than a fit issue. as you can see the power button is very close to the edge of the case (i use the standard battery). this makes hitting the power button very difficult. this isn't incipio's fault as thats just how the phone is designed. what is their fault is that they made the hole for the power button so big. when you go to push it, you thumb will naturally go to where the phone bends into the back. if incipio had just made the opening smaller, your thumb would naturally hit the power button rather than the side/back of the phone.
last complaint is once again regarding the "fit of the case. with the case one the phone, there 'should' be a very very slight lip on the top. this is obvious on the right side of the phone. however, on the left side my phone sticks up farther than the case. if i push down on the bottom left of the phone, it will recess into the case, giving it a protective lip. the problem is that the fit is so poor that after a few seconds it phone comes back to its raised position.
so there you go, thats my quick review of the incipio feather for the galaxy nexus. hopefully this helps someone out. it was a disappointment to say the least
that looks pretty bad, I am disappointed as I was going to get one too.
Many thanks for the post
Are you using a extended battery on the CDMA GN?
Nope. Standard battery on cdma nexus

I wish Samsung would have kept the gsm and lte versions with the same design dimensions but it is what it is. This case looks pretty bad.
I think you got a faulty case....I have the same one and it fits perfectly...its snug and there is a perfect lip on both sides...the power button is not hard to press. Are you seriousing me?

They can't... the LTE radio in there is bigger than the GSM, therefore it had to be slightly bigger/heavier.
i have the same case and it's fine on mine, too. i also find it easier to press the power button.

[Review] Brushed Aluminum Battery covery, Gold (looks more orange to me)

This was not received purposely, my guess is that they packaged up the items and mistakingly sent me somebody elses cause the tracking number they sent me doesn't match what's on the package. I ordered a white carbon fiber battery cover. But I gotta tell ya, this thing is DEAD SEXY! I'm not even mad that I didn't get what I paid for.

Fit and finish:
The finish is beautiful! I'd say the cover is a bit darker than pictured...when I seen it I didn't think gold I though burnt copper. Very nice color and it's accented with the vertical brush marks which makes it look even better. The cherries on top are the chrome trim around the bezel and the chrome trim around the camera/speaker/flash openings. Also, no gaudy "Galaxy S III" name on the back, it has the SAMSUNG logo embossed on the back and it looks like it was machined, polished aluminum. Very nice! Snapping it on to my phone I was impressed at how precise the fit is. The camera is flush with it's opening with the speaker and flash recessed and looking nice with the chrome trim surrounding them. The chrome bezel lines up perfectly with the bezel of the front side of the phone and doesn't clash nearly as much as I thought it would, it blends in nicely. The charger port cut out is spot on as is the headphone jack cutout. After I stopped drooling the first thing I noticed is added weight makes the GS3 feel much more substantial and solid. So far so good.
Cases:
The only cases I have right now are a Fosmon S type TPU and an Incipio Silicrylic Dual Pro. Apparently this cover adds a little girth cause the TPU case didn't work out. I got it on but it would not wrap around the screen on both sides, one side would but the other would just reach to the edge of the bezel. No bueno. The Incipio fit, but it's very tight. That being said, case fit will be hit or miss.
Functionality:
One concern was signal interference. Cell signal strength seems uneffected but wifi is weaker by 1 bar at the furthest point in my house from my router. I haven't tested NFC yet but will later on. Mobile data connection hasn't seemed to take a hit, based on the updates I just completed for a few apps. Haven't tested bluetooth yet either. So far any signal degredation is minimal and insignificant.
This is the first time I'm actually happy the company messed up my order!
I've been wanting to snag one of these, thanks for the write up!

My bad
The black aluminium back cover I have seems to be killing signal pretty badly, or I'm getting really unlucky after my water incident.

After using mine the last two days in varying environments in and around my house as well as out in the community...I have to agree with you. It's too bad cause damn that thing was sexy! But there's a new battery cover in town and I don't miss this one at all...white carbon fiber :good:

So my friend dropped his S3 in a INCIPIO twice today..

My friend was really obsessed with putting his phone on a bike mount he kind of setup himself, and he had a couple of growing pains where the assembly that it was clipped two fell off the bike TWICE today.. He has the same INCIPIO case that I do. Anyways I thought i'd post all these pictures for anyone considering the case or anyone just wondering how certain cases hold up to certain things.. Now again it had half the mount still attached to the phone when it fell which probably added a little extra weight and each time it fell it landed on a different corner. The cases corners appears to have cracked so it did its job, but on one corner (not sure if it was the first fall or second fall) the phone does appear to have formed some hairline cracks in the corner of the phone (why they didnt make that small band around this phone metal is beyond me!)
You can barely see them but they are there.. His screen was still fine (thast what matters) and the phone stil functinos perfectly, so thats a testament to the case i'm sure, but I'm already looking at some others.. without further ado, here are the pics.

Case did its job, but get a case for drop protection make sure it can be reused in the same situation again. Otterbox defender, trident kraken, ballistic sg maxx.
I have the kraken and dropped it a dozen times and tossed out at people (who can't catch), case and phone still look brand new.

doesnt exactly bode well for the case
if 2 drops damaged the case pretty badly and still managed to damage the phone then I wouldnt trust it anymore
time for an otterbox defender

Cheap Aluminium case from Hong Kong

I'm really pleased with this. Cost me £12 including postage from HK to UK....
It feels great and adds an extra bit of weight to it. Gives the S3 a quality feel without bulking it up too much.
You have to remove your normal battery cover to fit it. It screws together. I haven't actually noticed any detriment to signal, contrary to my expectations.
Here's some pics....

I added a link above. I use GPS daily with Tasker and noticed no Ill effects. I cannot comment on NFC. The back cover is also aluminium so it may be effected.
Its the same case that's been discussed here:

I had bought one and returned it. Same price and place.
Signal was a little weaker but GPS hardly ever got a lock. Sent back within days. Everyone on the thread has the same problem.
Looks nice but...AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
There are many cases in that thread. The one in the OP is the hunterf which I was trying to get but couldn't. I knew that would affect signal. I couldn't find a hunterf on ebay or in the uk so I got the cheap one. Signal great as I said

This was the same one i bought. Same case - different printing. I suggest you double check your gps before its too late to return. If your GPS does work, you'll be the only one that owns the case where it works.
Its the all-aluminium case that stops it.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with whatever case you bought. I've had a good experience with this particular case and I am sharing it.
I got the occasional lock using the dud case.
It must be the different print on the back or a new type of aluminium that they use which lets GPS signal through that makes it work perfectly for you.
Might have to get myself another one.
It must be different then. I get locks on the bus. The above screen shot, I walked outside my house. Locked 6 sats in about 15 seconds.
Still no idea about nfc. I assume that will be pretty effected but no way to test

I have this same case in blue. It looks and feels awesome makes the phone feel a bit more premium.
But like said, it definitely affects signal and gps, and because of this i felt that my battery life was worse because the phone was constantly trying to connect.
I still throw it on every once in a while because i like how it looks but always end up going back to my urban armor because of the signal issues.
IDK about OP, but like everyone said it affects signal so be prepared.
Edit: Also I really think that it's the exact same as the HunterF case just with some cheapo branding. But for a 1/4 of the price its worth a shot.
Yes, you should absolutely, always expect an aluminium case to be detrimental to signal. If you already have weak signal, DON'T buy an alu case.
That said, my rudimentary asu tests have been inconclusive. Meaning I cannot prove the case affects signal, nor can I prove it doesn't.
All I can say is I can still fix gps and whilst closely monitoring asu levels, without the case the range was 7-12 asu and with the case the range was 7-12 asu. Networks fluctuate by their very nature so its an impossible test to do scientifically using standard production masts.
Sometimes it appeared that putting the case on lowered the asu signal level. Other times it went down when removing the case and backup up when putting it on. I imagine both these results to be coincidence. For these reasons, I declare the tests inconclusive.

Heads up: avoid the aluminium/metal full covers...

I've been looking forward to an 'aluminium' cover to arrive from China... today it did... it fits OK, looks OK but I realised just now that it completely kills the network signal... as in it goes from full bars to no network found when you put the backplate on.
This is it in case people have been thinking about getting one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231439528962
Thanks, but I think you're a little unfair to the sellers listing. Perhaps just show image of covers rather.
Sellers - sell products, they don't manufacture them. Just sayin'.
Metal Covers
metal covers - bad idea
I had a similar experience with my wife's metal iPhone cover too... spent quite a bit of money and it practically halves the wifi signal.
Unless there is a 'special' kind of metal for phone covers...:silly:
I found the same thing. I got the full body aluminium one for my P7. Noticed a drop of 2 bars in 3G signal and 1 bar drop in wifi singal.
On my Honor 6 plus i have an aluminium bumper, with a clear plastic back, this has no affect on my signal, works fine and looks great. Got it from eBay, would definitely recommend.

There are two types of aluminium covers (which IMHO look good. The rest all make your phone look like an iphone ripoff) The first is this, with full aluminium bumper and aluminium back:
