swype installed but no worky - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

installed swype using a apk and sync
its on the sd card says installed successfully etc
listed as an app but not in the running apps
have rebooted etc
so whats wrong?
not in the input method select list all i have is touch and ime mod

enable in keyboard and languages
how friggin good is it. accuracy is very very high even at first use. can imagine how fast you can type when you get used to it

Have you gone to Language & Keyboard and put a check next to Swype? After doing that you will need to goto either a message or email and press and hold in the text area to get the "Input Select" option.

Removing Input Options

I recently purchased a second hand O2 Orbit and hated the keyboard input, so I have been lookin for the best text input for text messages, having installed about 5 different input options, I found an HTC diamond interface which is fine. However, having unistalled the other input options they still appear in the list when select which input I would like, but just show the keyboard when selected.
I was basically wondering how I can remove these options from appearing on this list so th\t when i come to choose my new input option, I dont have to scroll through a whole list.....
Also, since installing these it has slowed the XDA down loads and is really annoying, is this due to the amount I installed?? I havent done anything else in the mean time.
Cheers.
I use pockettweak for that. The homepage says it's for windows mobile 2003, but it still works fine on WM6.1

Keyboard problems

Hello
I installed my eT9_Full keyboard layout on my Mobile and it doesnt seem to be working anymore, it was working fine lastnight and i turned it on and some keys dont seem to be working correctly.
Instead of having to hold down the FN button to get the numbers, they automaticly work without holding it down when you press them which means i cant use W,E,R, S, D, F, X ,C, V for letters.
Also the T9 little icon isnt flashing back and forth where it used to where the battery icon is.
any help would be great
**Update**
It all seems to work in MSN correctly without any problems at all, but in Internet Explorer and text messages is still has the same problem, it seems like its only actived when it wants too??
Have you presses FN + SPACE and chose ABC in a text input box?
That doesnt seem to do anything while pressed in the text message box writing area.
Im using the Kavana’s 6.1 ROM
Well it does work if i use it in MSN then i can choose and select with one i want to use, However in Internet explorer and text messages that option doesnt happen

[A] Froyo keyboard not showing voice input button

I think I know what is messing up the keyboard on some Evo's after the update. I can't confirm this yet, as mine has always worked perfectly. Go to settings>language and keyboard>touch input and go into language settings. Deselect all but us English. This should remove the language button. Also, if you need other language support, just make sure you have English selected and press and hold on the language button to do voice input. Let me know if this works.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
none of these worked for me sadly
when i turned off all but english i get a greyed out En language button. When i have multi selected and hold i get nothing there too.
This didn't work for me on two separate evo's I just updated with the rooted 2.2 OTA update. Any other ideas?
Not Successful
I am having the same issue. I lost the voice input once i did the update. This feature is actually very helpful for me so it's a shame. Can someone please help.
SPOT ON MY FRIEND!
I'd buy you a pint if I could!

[Q] Spell Check woes

Hi, I have got a UK Touch Pro 2 branded Vodafone but it has the latest standard HTC WM 6.5 ROM installed (after Hard SPL).
I have installed TomTom and fixed the BTTrayCE error that created and also patched the clock which annoyingly wants to always show a time 1 hour and 2 mins behind, before flipping down like a 70s alarm clock to the correct time. I’m sure the programmer thought this was fantastic, but it’s just annoying and pointless! (/rant).
My problem is that I can’t find the spell checker. On my older XDA phones and my Touch Pro 1, in text messaging after typing a message, I just did Menu --> Spell check. It even allowed me to add words which it stored in the custom.dic file which I have been carrying from device to device as I upgraded phones.
However, even using the ‘proper’ text messing in Messages-->All Messages --> new message, when I click on the menu button all I get is “Add Recipient, Insert >, Quick Text, Save as Draft and Discard”. There is no spell check option!
The Vodaphone ROM which was slow and full of bloatware and incorrect settings for my network did have a spell check under menu – as did all the previous versions of WM.
I have tried enabling the XT9 feature and it does the XT9 thing of suggesting words and selecting them when you press space. This is quite rubbish for two reasons, it doesn’t auto correct i to I and you have to watch each word carefully, because if you type “hell” it might autocorrect it to “he’ll” depending on what you last chose. This results in having to go back and change about 5 - 10% of words, which is really annoying.
I have fiddled with the XT9 settings under Start/settings/all settings/personal/input/options and the only selectable input method is “Touch Input” although the hardware keyboard works and the options don’t seem to make much of a difference.
I have been searching for 4 hours now and hope that you might be able to help, please!!
Does anyone have a similar problem? Does anyone know if the standard HTC ROM should have a spell checker or not?

Issue with Google Keyboard personal dictionary on lollipop 5.02

I just updated my SM-T800 to lollipop 5.02 (T800XXU1BOCC_T800XAC1BOC4_XAC) and I'm using google keyboard. The problem I'm having is that I can't add words to the dictionary. ie. if I type "haha" I have the option of selecting "Hanna" or other similar words but I can't select "haha" and "touch to save" doesn't appear. I think there's a problem with the personal dictionary or loading the personal dictionary. When I go into [settings-general-language and input-google keyboard settings-google keyboard-text correction] and tap on personal dictionary I'm routed to wifi settings. I have tried a factory reset and reflashing the stock rom twice.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is anyone able to help?

Yes, I am.
The normal route to add to or edit sends me to my Network settings.
Using stock android, Google Now launcher. 5.0.2.android. Google keyboard
Had to reset tablet and reinstall everything. Since then...gone.
Annoying obviously.
No idea why, how it happened.

Hi. I have the same issue. Non more solution ?
This problem persists until now, June 2016.
Yes I have this also. Android 5.0.2 on a note pro tab. My phone (6.0.1) does not rout me to the wifi settings in the same way, but still seems to be missing the option to add words on the fly as you type them. Does this mean that the only way to add words to your personal dictionary is to record them somewhere and then do so directly via the settings interface? How archaic..
It also took me a while to realise that the settings can only be accessed via the comma button (long press) from the keyboard itself, as there is now no flag to alert you to this since the recent update, and apparently no other way in.
Nevertheless, and even in the absence of any 'add to dictionary' option, the dictionary did seem to fill up with endless amounts of partial, wrong, or capitalised words (for instance I just got 'Calif' when I typed the 'capit' just now - what is a Calif'???).
I deleted all data from the app, but still they come, as Jare said. I would love to be able to access whatever dictionary this thing is using, and kill it, because it is not English. If there is a supplementary dictionary of acronyms and abbreviations and cultural slang then that should be an option you can opt out of.
A Spell checker should never autocorrect to a word that is not correct in the language you are writing - this is rather obvious I would have thought. For people who work on this gear full time a bit more control would be great.
